Method of signal processing for beamforming in a heterogenous multiple input mulitple output (MIMO) rate splitting multiple access communication system, and apparatus configured for executing the method

Abstract

A method of generating precoding and / or combining parameters for wireless interfaces of a first and a second communication device, respectively, is presented. The first wireless communication device is configured for wireless communication with a plurality of second communication devices (UEs) in a MU-MIMO RSMA communication system. The method comprises, for determining the precoding and / or combining parameters of the common part, performing a first decomposition of the estimated channel tensor comprising the channel matrices for all second communication devices into the product of a matrix common to all UEs, a rectangular unitary matrix for each individual UE, and a diagonal matrix representing channel spaces occupied by each individual UE. A similar second decomposition is performed for determining the precoding and / or combining parameters of the private part. The first and the second decomposition differ in at least the diagonal matrices. A subsequent beamforming phase design process is targeted to optimise the common and private message parts of signals to be transmitted over multiple antennas in accordance with a previously selected objective.
