[0001] The present invention relates the field of cosmetic, therapeutic and restorative treatment of the skin of a subject in need thereof, and more particularly to a process and system for cosmetic, therapeutic and restorative treatment of the skin of a subject in need thereof, in particular the face of a subject. Background of the Invention

[0002] Cosmetic, therapeutic, treatment and medical procedure technologies, typically, have been handled by a human being using hand operated tools in the past.

[0003] Such tools typically include a laser type device which, is held by the hand of an operator, and which is utilised to perform cosmetic and therapeutic, as well as clinical procedures on the body of the patient.

[0004] In particular, such procedures are performed on the face and head of a patient. However, in other cases, the skin or dermis of a subject may be treated for cosmetic or therapeutic purposes.

[0005] Cosmetic purposes may include removal of blemishes, removal of scarring, treatment of discoloration, removal of unsightly growths or defects, smoothening of and consistency of colour, skin wrinkle and defect restoration and the like.

[0006] Therapeutic purposes also, may include restoration from damage such as from chemicals, light, trauma, accidents on a minor scale, or on a larger scale disfigurement from injury or trauma.

[0007] Therapeutic purposes may also include the removal of lesions from the skin of a patient, cancer therapy, and removal of potential cancer initiation points such as moles or other defects on the body of the subject.

[0010] (i) incorrect treatment zone of the dermis of a subject,

[0011] (ii) inappropriate treatment regime to the zone of the dermis of a subject, and

[0012] (iii) excessive or insufficient treatment in respect of cosmetic or clinical procedures on the dermis of a subject.

[0013] The above can occur for numerous reasons, including human error, human tiredness, inconsistent operation of the device by hand, distraction by the user, subject to variance in decision making, inappropriate selection of device parameters, as well as simple human error due hand dexterity related issues.

[0014] Whilst it is acknowledged that there do exist robotic type systems for providing therapeutic and cosmetic surgery on a patient, such systems are generally rudimentary, have numerous deficiencies as which are identified by the present inventors, and still provide or exhibit errors an inconsistency as provided by manual operations.

[0015] The present inventors have identified the above problems, and provided a system and process for cosmetic and therapeutic treatment of a subject, which overcomes the disadvantages as exhibited by the prior art.

[0036] 1. Clinical and Commercial Applications of the Present Invention

[0037] The present invention may be implemented within the cosmetic and medical fields, in at least the following applications:

[0038] (i) Cosmetic facial surgery, such as blemish removal, skin whitening,

[0039] (ii) Facial hair removal,

[0040] (iii) Eye surgery,

[0041] (iv) Dental operation,

[0042] (v) Hair growth  / removal treatment,

[0043] (vi) Hair transplant extraction and implantation, and

[0044] (vii) Other medical or cosmetic procedures that may be guided by a subject.

[0045] 2. Overview of the Present Invention

[0046] The present invention utilises a novel robotic system which may be controlled via a plurality of input actions, which may be voluntary or involuntary, including:

[0047] (i) voice recognition,

[0048] (ii) Natural language processing (NLP -abranch of artificial intelligence (AI) ) ,

[0049] (iii) physical action; and

[0050] (iv) body monitoring.

[0051] The present invention utilises as a control input parameter, response from the subject, which is included in the control feedback loop of the system and the process. Accordingly, enhanced safety to the subject is achieved by virtue of the provision with multiple input control signals and including multiple sensors as well as provision for subject initiated termination of the therapeutic procedure.

[0052] The present invention maybe also incorporated in conjunction with other technologies of the present applicant.

[0053] 3. Identified Disadvantages of the Prior Art

[0054] Disadvantages of the pre-existing systems identified by the present inventors, whereby a human operating a machine may have degraded performance including operator (i) tiredness, (ii) distraction, (iii) feeling unwell, and (iv) lack of concentration.

[0055] Although the present invention is preferably directed towards implementation in conjunction with an automated system, the present inventors have determined that in human operated, semi-automated, and fully automated systems for performing cosmetic or therapeutic procedures on a subject, that safety, in particular termination of a procedure is of paramount importance.

[0056] In the case of a human operated cosmetic or therapeutic system, the human operator is reliant upon either their own observations when a procedure should be terminated, or upon voluntary or involuntary reactions from the subject to whom the treatment or therapy is being applied thereto.

[0057] As will be apparent, a delay in reaction by the human operator upon own observations of the necessity to terminated procedure, alright delay in reacting from feedback from the subject, inherently delays the termination of a cosmetic or therapeutic procedure. Inherently, as also would be known and appreciated, delay in reaction and continued therapy may cause damage to a tissue other subject, discomfort and permanent damage.

[0058] Also, in semi-automated systems, the same issues apply, in that a delay by an operator to terminate a procedure or adjust the therapy, from either input from the subject or upon observation of the operator, can result in injury or substandard performance or outcome of the therapeutic or cosmetic procedure.

[0059] In the case of a fully automated system such as those as provided by the present applicant, the issue of termination of a procedure is of paramount importance, and in particular termination as a result from the input from the subject is to wear the present invention resides.

[0060] 4. Implementation of Present Invention

[0061] Referring to Figure 1 and in accordance with the present invention, there is shown a generalised schematic representation of the control system 100 of the present invention including a processor 110 for providing a control signal 130 to a controller of an automated cosmetic or therapeutic system, for causing alteration to the operation of the automated cosmetic or therapeutic system.

[0062] The control signal 130 is response to one or more input signals 120 derived from the subject who is receiving treatment or therapy from the automated cosmetic or therapeutic system.

[0063] The input signal 120 derived from the subject, may be based on a physical parameter, or a physiological input from the subject.

[0064] The input 120 signal derived from the subject may voluntary or involuntary.

[0065] Referring now to Figure 2, there is shown an embodiment of a system 200 according to the present invention, whereby the system includes a processor 220, and a robotic arm of a robot 250 of automated cosmetic or therapeutic system.

[0066] Again, the system 200 includes a processor 210 for providing a control signal 230 to a controller of a robot 250 of an automated cosmetic or therapeutic system, for causing alteration to the operation of the automated cosmetic or therapeutic system.

[0067] An input signal 220 derived from the subject, may be based on a physical parameter, or a physiological input from the subject. The input 220 signal derived from the subject may voluntary or involuntary.

[0068] Referring to Figure 3, there is shown a schematic representation of a system 300 according to the present invention.

[0069] In the present embodiment, the system 300 includes a multi-sensory system 310 including a processor.

[0070] The system includes a plurality of input modules 322, 324, 326, 328 which can receive a plurality of input parameters 332, 324, 326, 328 from the subject for providing control signals 342, 344, 346, 348 to the multi-sensory system 310.

[0071] Upon the multi-sensory system 310, based on control signals 342, 344, 346, 348 determining that a procedure should be terminated adjusted, multi-sensory system 310 produces and output signal 350.

[0072] The output signal 350, may, in the case of a user operable system, send an alert to the user to terminate the procedure.

[0073] In other cases, such as a semi-automated or automated system, for providing cosmetic with therapeutic procedures to a subject, the output signal 350 may terminate a procedure automatically, whereby the output signal 350 is received by, for example a robotic system which is providing therapy to the subject.

[0074] The termination may, for example, in deployments be removal of a medical tool from the subject, turning off the power from a laser, or otherwise interrupting a therapeutic or cosmetic procedure.

[0075] Then, upon the event which resulted in determination being resolved, the procedure may be re commenced either by the operator or by the subject, depending upon the event which caused the interruption of the procedure.

[0076] 5. Examples of Subject Output

[0077] The present invention, by providing a subject monitoring system for cosmetic of therapeutic procedures, which may be controlled or terminated, may be controlled via a plurality of input actions, which may be voluntary or involuntary, including:

[0078] (i) voice recognition from an audio output from the subject,

[0079] (ii) Natural language processing (NLP -abranch of artificial intelligence (AI) ) , responsive to from an audio output from the subject,

[0080] (iii) a physical action from the subject, and

[0081] (iv) physiological monitoring of the subject.

[0082] As will be noted and understood, voice recognition may be voluntary or involuntary, depending on the stimulus or reason that a subject may react. Such a reaction may the result of the therapeutic procedure, or could be a reaction from the subject for a reason such as panic or needing to use a washroom or discomfort in general.

[0083] Similarly, as will be noted and understood, a physical action may also be voluntary or involuntary, depending upon the stimulus to the subject which caused the physical action from the subject.

[0084] Generally, body monitoring by physiological parameters would be considered an involuntary reaction. Again, such a reaction may be a result of the cosmetic therapeutic procedure, or may, in some cases be unrelated to such a procedure, for example an unrelated medical health condition of the subject.

[0085] 6. Exemplary Embodiment

[0086] The present invention utilises as a control input parameter, from response from the subject, which is included in the control feedback loop of the system and the process.

[0087] Accordingly, enhanced safety to the subject is achieved by virtue of the provision with multiple input control signals and including multiple sensors as well as provision for subject initiated termination of the therapeutic procedure.

[0088] In a semi-automatic or fully automatic application for cosmetic or therapeutic procedures, appropriate treatment / surgery tools may be selected and held by a 6-axis robot arm, for example.

[0089] With reference to preferred embodiments of the present invention, the term “cobot” is used. For explanatory purposes, a “cobot” or collaborative robot, is a robot which is intended for direct human-robot interaction within a shared space, or in situations humans and robots are in close proximity.

[0090] As such, in accordance with the present invention, a cobot may be utilised as this is appropriate within such a clinical or cosmetic environment to which the present invention is directed.

[0091] With the case of skin treatment as an example, a laser head is held by a cobot arm. By way of example, the modules, 322, 324, 326, 328, such as those as described in reference to Figure 3, may include the following:

[0092] (i) a 3D camera to perform real-time 3D facial scan, to monitor the motion of face / head and to detect the deviation of laser head from a planned path,

[0093] (ii) a thermal sensor to detect skin temperature on the area under treatment,

[0094] (iii) a fingertip sensor to detect a subject’s physiological parameters such heart rate, blood oxygen and the like,

[0095] (iv) a blood pressure sensor,

[0096] (v) a breathing rate sensor or detector, to detect the respiratory rate of the subject,

[0097] (v) A subject-operable emergency stop button, and

[0098] (vi) Natural Language Processing (NLP) module to recognize language commands.

[0099] Thus, and in accordance with embodiments of the present invention, there is provided a multi-sensory system to receive the following signals:

[0100] (i) audio detection from the subject,

[0101] (ii) skin temperature,

[0102] (iii) heart rate,

[0103] (iv) CO2, and

[0104] (v) blood oxygen content.

[0105] Other sensory inputs may include:

[0106] (i) motion of face  / head  / hands, or other limbs,

[0107] (ii) panic  / Stop Button, and

[0108] (iii) real time face  / head  / hand location (monitoring with a 3D camera) . The 3D camera may monitor face movements of a subject, and the system may calculate the required compensation to the path of laser head of the laser in real-time.

[0109] For safety, a patient’s initiated termination of procedure may be triggered for example by one of the following conditions:

[0110] (i) voluntary voice command: e.g. language command e.g. “Stop”  /  “No’  /  “Danger” ,

[0111] (ii) involuntary reaction generated audio from the subject, such as “Ar” sound or any strange sound generated by the subject,

[0112] (iii) other abnormal measurements such as sudden / large change in temperature, heartrate, blood oxygen, or unexpected changes,

[0113] (iv) motion of face  / head exceeds a predefined threshold, and

[0114] (v) strange or abnormal hand motion.

[0115] Other than termination of procedure, the subject may give other language command, e.g. “Resume” to resume a paused procedure, or “OK” to confirm that he / she is giving permission to let some preset procedures “go ahead” .

[0116] 7. Advantages of Present Invention

[0117] Advantages as provided by the present invention include enhanced safety to a subject, by subject dependent voluntary and involuntary command and procedure termination regimes.
