[0002] The present disclosure generally relates to devices, systems, methods, and kits for the protection, longevity, and / or feel of pickleball paddles, e.g., for protecting the edges of pickleball paddles.BACKGROUND
[0003] Pickleball is a paddle sport that generally combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It is played on a court with similar dimensions to a badminton court with a net dividing opposing sides. The game is played with a perforated plastic ball and solid paddles made of, for example, wood, graphite, and / or composite materials. In general, players use their paddles to hit the ball over the net, aiming to land the ball within the boundaries of the opposing side of the court.
[0004] A pickleball paddle may include an edge guard to protect the paddle, and edges thereof, from damage during play. That is, the edge guard can act as a buffer between the paddle and other surfaces / objects, preventing chips, scratches, and other forms of wear and tear that can occur when the paddle comes into contact with the ground, walls, or other objects during intense gameplay. However, an edge guard may add significant weight to a pickleball paddle, which is often undesirable, as many players prefer lighter-weight paddles that can be subsequently customized for balance, static weight, swing weight, and twist weight of the paddle. In some cases, a pickleball paddle may be “edgeless”, which often refers to the paddle lacking an edge guard.
[0005] Pickleball paddles may include exchangeable faces. It may be desirable to protect the edge of a paddle with such faces, particularly when the edges of the faces may present a sharp or abrasive surface. However, traditional edge guards may make it difficult to exchange such faces.
[0006] There remains a need for improved pickleball paddle protection, e.g., devices for protecting the edges of pickleball paddles.SUMMARY
[0007] The present teachings generally include devices, systems, kits, and techniques for protecting pickleball paddles — e.g., the edges of pickleball paddles — for example, where such devices may be readily removable from the paddle, such as for exchanging a face of the paddle, weight adjustment, etc. The devices may protect the paddle and accessories installed thereon (e.g., a removable face or an edge guard), and may remain engaged with the paddle during play. The devices may also, or instead, be used to adjust any of the balance point, swing weight, twist weight, or static weight, and / or to customize the visual or tactile characteristics of a paddle. The device may include two rims that each engage continuously with a paddle, and a plurality of connectors that couple the two rims. A neck of the device may be flexibly or detachably coupled to accommodate a handle of a pickleball paddle.
[0008] In an aspect, a device for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle as disclosed herein may include: a first rim sized and shaped to engage continuously with a first junction disposed between a first face and an edge portion of a pickleball paddle from at least a first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to a throat portion thereof to at least a second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to a throat portion thereof; a second rim sized and shaped to engage continuously with a second junction disposed between a second face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle from at least the first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion thereof to at least the second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion thereof; a plurality of connectors coupling the first rim and the second rim about a perimeter the device such that the plurality of connectors are disposed adjacent the edge portion of the pickleball paddle when the device is engaged therewith; and a neck disposed at a bottom end of the device, the neck connected to each of the first rim and the second rim on each of a first side and a second side of the device such that the device defines a shape having a continuous perimeter when coupled with the pickleball paddle, the neck defining a void sized and shaped to accommodate a handle of the pickleball paddle.
[0009] Implementations of this example aspect, or any other example aspect described in this summary section or otherwise herein, may include one or more of the following features. Each of the first rim and the second rim may include a predetermined pliability such that, when the handle of the pickleball paddle is inserted into the void of the neck of the device, the first rim and the second rim can be flexed to engage the first junction and the second junction, respectively. The predetermined pliability may permit each of the first rim and the second rim to be flexed to disengage from the first junction and the second junction, respectively, for removal of the device from the pickleball paddle. Each of the first rim and the second rim may include a rigidity sufficient to maintain the shape of the device in the absence of external forces. The neckmay be resiliently deformable to receive the handle of the pickleball paddle. In an at rest state, the neck may define a void having a maximum dimension less than a maximum dimension of a cross-section of the handle. When the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the device may remain in a fixed position unless a predetermined force for disengagement is placed on a portion of one or more of the first rim and the second rim in a direction away from one or more of the first junction and the second junction, respectively. The neck may include a first neck member connected to the first rim and a second neck member connected to the second rim, at least one neck member being structurally configured for detachable coupling to form the void sized and shaped to accommodate the handle of the pickleball paddle. Both of the first neck member and the second neck member may be structurally configured for detachable coupling. The at least one neck member may be configured for one or more of a snap-fit connection and a friction fit connection to one or more of a rim and an opposing neck member. The at least one neck member may be configured for sliding engagement with one or more a rim and an opposing neck member. The neck may include a third neck member connected to the first rim and a fourth neck member connected to the second rim. Each of the first rim, the second rim, the plurality of connectors, and the neck may be made from the same material. One or more of the first rim and the second rim may include an elastomer. One or more of the first rim and the second rim may include a plastic material. The neck may include a rubber material. One or more of the first rim and the second rim may include a foam material. One or more of the first rim and the second rim may include an exterior surface having a substantially rounded shape. One or more of the first rim and the second rim may include an exterior surface having one or more corners. One or more of the first rim and the second rim may include an engagement surface having a one or more of a notch, a cutout, a channel, a slot, and a recess. When the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, each of the first rim and the second rim may include an exterior surface that extends away from both a face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle. When the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the first rim and the second rim may define a maximum thickness of a combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle. When the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the first rim and the second rim may define a maximum width of a combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle. When the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, a majority of the first rim may be disposed immediately adjacent to the first junction and a majority of the second rim is disposed immediately adjacent to the second junction. One or more of the plurality of connectors may include a shape extending away from the edge portion of the pickleball paddle when the device is engaged therewith. The shape may be structurally configured such that, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the plurality of connectors define a maximumwidth of a combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle. The shape may be substantially curved with an apex disposed away from the edge portion of the pickleball paddle when the device is engaged therewith. At least one of the plurality of connectors may be different from at least another one of the plurality of connectors. At least one of the plurality of connectors may have a different thickness than the at least another one of the plurality of connectors. The device may include a plurality of edge voids, each of the plurality of edge voids interposed between two of the plurality of connectors and defined by the two of the plurality of connectors, the first rim, and the second rim. When the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the plurality of edge voids may expose a majority of the edge portion of the pickleball paddle. The device may include one or more sidewalls located between the first rim and the second rim, and a plurality of recesses in each of the one or more sidewalls, where each of the recesses structurally configured to retain a weight therewithin. One of the sidewalls may extend along each of the first side and the second side. When the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the neck may be disposed above the handle of the pickleball paddle. When the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the neck may be disposed about the handle of the pickleball paddle. At least a portion of the neck may include an elastic band. The device may include an adhesive disposed on one or more of the first rim, the second rim, one or more of the plurality of connectors, and the neck. The device may completely lack an adhesive.
[0010] In an aspect, a method for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle disclosed herein may include: inserting a handle of a pickleball paddle through a void formed in a neck of a device for protecting an edge portion of the pickleball paddle, the neck disposed at a bottom end of the device, the neck connected to each of a first rim and a second rim on each of a first side and a second side of the device such that the device defines a shape having a continuous perimeter; flexing at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device along at least one of a top region and a side region of the pickleball paddle; aligning, when so flexed, the at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device about a junction disposed between a face and an edge portion of the pickleball paddle; and removing the flexing to fixedly engage the device with the pickleball paddle.

The method may include: flexing at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device away from at least one of the top region and the side region of the pickleball paddle; disengaging at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device from one or more of the top region and the side region of the pickleball paddle; and removing the handle of the pickleball paddle from the void of the neck of the device to separate the device from the pickleball paddle. Themethod may include: replacing one or more faces of the pickleball paddle; and reinstalling the device on the pickleball paddle. The method may include reinstalling the device on the pickleball paddle. Aligning the at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device may include pulling the at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device over at least a portion of the junction disposed between the face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle. The first rim and the second rim of the device may be positioned over the junction on each side of the pickleball paddle when aligning. The first rim and the second rim of the device may be positioned immediately adjacent to the junction on each side of the pickleball paddle when aligning. The method may include adjusting a weight of the combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle. The method may include striking a ball with the combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle.
[0012] In an aspect, a method for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle disclosed herein may include: decoupling at least one of a first neck member and a second neck member of a device for protecting the edge portion of the pickleball paddle along a neck disposed at a bottom end of the device to form a neck opening, the first neck member connected to a first rim on a first side of the device and the second neck member connected to a second rim on a second side of the device; placing a handle of the pickleball paddle within the neck opening; flexing at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device along at least one of a top region and a side region of the device; aligning, when so flexed, the at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device about a junction disposed between a face and an edge portion of the pickleball paddle; removing the flexing to fixedly engage the device with the pickleball paddle; and coupling at least one of the first neck member and the second neck member such that the device defines a shape having a substantially continuous perimeter.
[0013] In an aspect, a system for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle disclosed herein may include a pickleball paddle including: a handle including a top portion and a bottom portion; a throat portion engaged with the top portion of the handle; a first face and a second face that opposes the first face, each of the first face and the second face extending from the throat portion of the handle, and each of the first face and the second face structurally configured for striking a ball; and an edge portion disposed between the first face and the second face along an exterior of the paddle. The system may also include a device for protecting at least a portion of the pickleball paddle, the device including: a first rim sized and shaped to engage with a first junction disposed between the first face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle continuously from at least a first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion to at least a second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion; a second rim sized and shaped to engage with a second junction disposed between the second face and the edge portionof the pickleball paddle continuously from at least the first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion to at least the second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion; and a neck connected to each of the first rim and the second rim such that the device defines a shape having a continuous perimeter, the neck defining a void through which at least the bottom portion of the handle of the pickleball paddle is inserted.

Each of the first coupler parts may include a plurality of engagement points.

In particular, the present teachings may include a relatively selective (e.g., removable and replaceable), minimalist, and / or lightweight device that can protect the edges / corners of the paddle without drastically increasing the weight thereof. As described herein, the device may be readily removable from the paddle, and may be used in cooperation with other paddle accessories such as a replacement face / playing surface and / or an edge guard structurally configured for attachment to the pickleball paddle.
[0038] As described herein, pickleball paddles can include an edge guard, which is a protection that surrounds edges of a paddle, or the paddle can be edgeless, lacking an edge guard. The main functionality of an edge guard may be to protect the edges of a paddle against collision and scratching, increasing the paddle’s durability. However, an edge guard can add significant weight to a pickleball paddle, which in some instances is undesirable, especially if a user is looking for a lightweight paddle and / or wants to customize a paddle’s balance, static weight, swing weight, twist weight, and so on. Therefore, the present teachings may include a device that can provide edge protection as an alternative to conventional edge guards, or without drastically increasing the weight of a pickleball paddle upon which the device is engaged. Furthermore, the device may provide the ability to adjust any of the balance point, swing weight, twist weight, or static weight, or to customize the visual or tactile characteristics of the paddle. Unlike some protective cases, the device may be designed to remain engaged with the paddle during play. Alternatively, the device may be removed for play.
[0039] It will be understood that, while this disclosure may emphasize the present teachings in the context of pickleball, the present teachings may be adapted and practiced in other sports and activities, including without limitation one or more of: tennis, badminton, squash, racquetball, table tennis (ping pong), and the like. [0040] Fig. 1 shows various views of a pickleball paddle, by way of example. The paddle 100 may be an existing paddle of the prior art. In general, the paddle 100 includes a first face 102 structurally configured for striking a ball, a second face 103 opposing the first face 102, a handle 104, a throat portion 106 disposed between the first face 102 and the handle 104, and an edge portion 108 that may include an edge guard 110 thereon, or may not include an edge guard (which may be referred to as “edgeless”). In general, the edge portion 108 may be disposed along an exterior of the paddle 100 between the faces 102 and 103 of the paddle 100, and may extend along a first side 112, a top region 114, and a second side 116. In this manner, the edge portion 108 may abut a perimeter of each of the first face 102 and the second face 103 of the paddle 100. As shown in the figure, in an existing paddle, the edge guard 110 may cover all or a substantial portion of the edge portion 108 of the paddle 100. A first junction 118 may be disposed between the first face 102 and the edge portion 108 of the paddle 100. Similarly, a second junction 120 may be disposed between the second face 103 and the edge portion 108. Either of the first junction 118 or the second junction 120 may or may not include a portion of the edge guard 110.
[0041] Fig. 2 shows a device 200 for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle, in accordance with a representative example. The device 200 may include a first rim 210, a second rim 220, a plurality of connectors 230, and a neck 240. The device 200 is further described with reference to the pickleball paddle 100 of Fig. 1 for convenience, and to relate features of the device 200 to commonly found features of pickleball paddles 100.
[0042] The first rim 210 may be sized and shaped to engage continuously with a first junction 118 of a pickleball paddle 100. For example, the first rim 210 may engage continuously with the first junction 118 from at least the first side 112 adjacent to the throat portion 106 to at least the second side 116 adjacent to the throat portion 106 of the paddle 100. Said another way, the first rim 210 may be configured to engage continuously with the first junction 118 from a first throat engaging portion 250, to a first side engaging portion 252, to a first top engaging portion 254, to a second side engaging portion 256, and to a second throat engaging portion 258.

Similar to the configuration of the first rim 210 for engagement with the first junction 118, the second rim 220 may be configured to engage continuously with the second junction 120 from afirst throat engaging portion 250, to a first side engaging portion 252, to a first top engaging portion 254, to a second side engaging portion 256, and to a second throat engaging portion 258. The first rim 210 and the second rim 220 may have a similar size and / or shape (e.g., the first rim 210 may be a mirror image of the second rim 220).
[0044] In an aspect, each of the first rim 210 and the second rim 220 are sufficiently pliable to permit insertion of a pickleball paddle into the device 200 and to form engagement of the device 200 with the paddle. To this end, each of the first rim 210 and the second rim 220 may have a predetermined pliability that permits the first rim 210 to be flexed to engage the first junction 118 and the second rim 220 to be flexed to engage the second junction 120. Similarly, the predetermined pliability may permit each of the first rim 210 and the second rim 220 to be flexed to disengage, respectively, from the first junction 118 and the second junction 120, for removal of the device 200 from the pickleball paddle 100. In some cases, each of the first rim 210 and the second rim 220 may also, or instead, include a rigidity sufficient to maintain the shape of the device 200 in the absence of external forces. Said another way, the rigidity may be sufficient to maintain the device in a substantially paddle-shaped form (such as the form shown in Fig. 2) whether or not the device 200 is engaged with a paddle.
[0045] Either of the first rim 210 or the second rim 220 may include an exterior (outer) surface (i.e., the surface oriented away from the paddle) having a substantially rounded shape. Such a shape may be designed for aerodynamics, weight reduction, aesthetics, safety, and so on. This shape may also or instead be advantageous if the rims of the device 200 were to make contact with a ball or the like. In other cases, either of the first rim 210 or the second rim 220 may include an exterior surface having one or more corners, angled edges, or similar. On an opposing surface of the rims, either or both of the first rim 210 or the second rim 220 may have an engagement surface (in other words, an interior surface) having any of a notch, a cutout, a channel, a slot, a recess, or that is otherwise specifically sized and shaped for engagement with a portion of a pickleball paddle such as the first and second junctions thereof. These features may be configured to promote engagement with the paddle, and as such may be designed for use with paddles of specific dimensions, shapes, materials, and the like. Claims
CLAIMSWhat is claimed is:
1. A device for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle, the device comprising: a first rim sized and shaped to engage continuously with a first junction disposed between a first face and an edge portion of a pickleball paddle from at least a first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to a throat portion thereof to at least a second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to a throat portion thereof; a second rim sized and shaped to engage continuously with a second junction disposed between a second face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle from at least the first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion thereof to at least the second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion thereof; a plurality of connectors coupling the first rim and the second rim about a perimeter the device such that the plurality of connectors are disposed adjacent the edge portion of the pickleball paddle when the device is engaged therewith; and a neck disposed at a bottom end of the device, the neck connected to each of the first rim and the second rim on each of a first side and a second side of the device such that the device defines a shape having a continuous perimeter when coupled with the pickleball paddle, the neck defining a void sized and shaped to accommodate a handle of the pickleball paddle.
2. The device of claim 1, wherein each of the first rim and the second rim include a predetermined pliability such that, when the handle of the pickleball paddle is inserted into the void of the neck of the device, the first rim and the second rim can be flexed to engage the first junction and the second junction, respectively.
3. The device of claim 2, wherein the predetermined pliability permits each of the first rim and the second rim to be flexed to disengage from the first junction and the second junction, respectively, for removal of the device from the pickleball paddle.
4. The device of claim 2, wherein each of the first rim and the second rim include a rigidity sufficient to maintain the shape of the device in the absence of external forces.
5. The device of claim 1, wherein the neck is resiliently deformable to receive the handle of the pickleball paddle.
6. The device of claim 5, wherein, in an at rest state, the neck defines a void having a maximum dimension less than a maximum dimension of a cross-section of the handle.
7. The device of claim 1, wherein, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the device remains in a fixed position unless a predetermined force for disengagement is placed on a portion of one or more of the first rim and the second rim in a direction away from one or more of the first junction and the second junction, respectively.
8. The device of claim 1, wherein the neck includes a first neck member connected to the first rim and a second neck member connected to the second rim, at least one neck member being structurally configured for detachable coupling to form the void sized and shaped to accommodate the handle of the pickleball paddle.
9. The device of claim 8, wherein both of the first neck member and the second neck member are structurally configured for detachable coupling.
10. The device of claim 8, wherein the at least one neck member is configured for one or more of a snap-fit connection and a friction fit connection to one or more of a rim and an opposing neck member.
11. The device of claim 8, wherein the at least one neck member is configured for sliding engagement with one or more a rim and an opposing neck member .
12. The device of claim 8, wherein the neck includes a third neck member connected to the first rim and a fourth neck member connected to the second rim.
13. The device of claim 1, wherein each of the first rim, the second rim, the plurality of connectors, and the neck are made from the same material.
14. The device of claim 1, wherein one or more of the first rim and the second rim includes an elastomer.
15. The device of claim 1, wherein one or more of the first rim and the second rim includes a plastic material.
16. The device of claim 15, wherein the neck includes a rubber material.
17. The device of claim 1, wherein one or more of the first rim and the second rim includes a foam material.
18. The device of claim 1, wherein one or more of the first rim and the second rim includes an exterior surface having a substantially rounded shape.
19. The device of claim 1, wherein one or more of the first rim and the second rim includes an exterior surface having one or more corners.
20. The device of claim 1, wherein one or more of the first rim and the second rim includes an engagement surface having a one or more of a notch, a cutout, a channel, a slot, and a recess.
21. The device of claim 1, wherein, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, each of the first rim and the second rim include an exterior surface that extends away from both a face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle.
22. The device of claim 1, wherein, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the first rim and the second rim define a maximum thickness of a combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle.
23. The device of claim 1, wherein, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the first rim and the second rim define a maximum width of a combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle.
24. The device of claim 1, wherein, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, a majority of the first rim is disposed immediately adjacent to the first junction and a majority of the second rim is disposed immediately adjacent to the second junction.
25. The device of claim 1, wherein one or more of the plurality of connectors includes a shape extending away from the edge portion of the pickleball paddle when the device is engaged therewith.
26. The device of claim 25, wherein the shape is structurally configured such that, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the plurality of connectors define a maximum width of a combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle.
27. The device of claim 25, wherein the shape is substantially curved with an apex disposed away from the edge portion of the pickleball paddle when the device is engaged therewith.
28. The device of claim 1, wherein at least one of the plurality of connectors is different from at least another one of the plurality of connectors.
29. The device of claim 28, wherein the at least one of the plurality of connectors has a different thickness than the at least another one of the plurality of connectors.
30. The device of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of edge voids, each of the plurality of edge voids interposed between two of the plurality of connectors and defined by the two of the plurality of connectors, the first rim, and the second rim.
31. The device of claim 30, wherein, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the plurality of edge voids expose a majority of the edge portion of the pickleball paddle.
32. The device of claim 1, further comprising one or more sidewalls located between the first rim and the second rim, and a plurality of recesses in each of the one or more sidewalls, wherein each of the recesses structurally configured to retain a weight therewithin.
33. The device of claim 32, wherein one of the sidewalls extends along each of the first side and the second side.
34. The device of claim 1, wherein, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the neck is disposed above the handle of the pickleball paddle.
35. The device of claim 1, wherein, when the device is fully engaged with the pickleball paddle, the neck is disposed about the handle of the pickleball paddle.
36. The device of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the neck includes an elastic band.
37. The device of claim 1, further comprising an adhesive disposed on one or more of the first rim, the second rim, one or more of the plurality of connectors, and the neck.
38. The device of claim 1, wherein the device completely lacks an adhesive.
39. A method for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle, the method comprising: inserting a handle of a pickleball paddle through a void formed in a neck of a device for protecting an edge portion of the pickleball paddle, the neck disposed at a bottom end of the device, the neck connected to each of a first rim and a second rim on each of a first side and a second side of the device such that the device defines a shape having a continuous perimeter; flexing at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device along at least one of a top region and a side region of the pickleball paddle; aligning, when so flexed, the at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device about a junction disposed between a face and an edge portion of the pickleball paddle; and removing the flexing to fixedly engage the device with the pickleball paddle.
40. The method of claim 39, further comprising: flexing at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device away from at least one of the top region and the side region of the pickleball paddle; disengaging at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device from one or more of the top region and the side region of the pickleball paddle; and removing the handle of the pickleball paddle from the void of the neck of the device to separate the device from the pickleball paddle.
41. The method of claim 40, further comprising: replacing one or more faces of the pickleball paddle; and reinstalling the device on the pickleball paddle.
42. The method of claim 40, further comprising reinstalling the device on the pickleball paddle.
43. The method of claim 39, wherein aligning the at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device includes pulling the at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device over at least a portion of the junction disposed between the face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle.
44. The method of claim 39, wherein the first rim and the second rim of the device are positioned over the junction on each side of the pickleball paddle when aligning.
45. The method of claim 39, wherein the first rim and the second rim of the device are positioned immediately adjacent to the junction on each side of the pickleball paddle when aligning.
46. The method of claim 39, further comprising adjusting a weight of the combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle.
47. The method of claim 39, further comprising striking a ball with the combined structure of the device and the pickleball paddle.
48. A method for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle, the method comprising: decoupling at least one of a first neck member and a second neck member of a device for protecting the edge portion of the pickleball paddle along a neck disposed at a bottom end of the device to form a neck opening, the first neck member connected to a first rim on a first side of the device and the second neck member connected to a second rim on a second side of the device; placing a handle of the pickleball paddle within the neck opening; flexing at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device along at least one of a top region and a side region of the device; aligning, when so flexed, the at least one of the first rim and the second rim of the device about a junction disposed between a face and an edge portion of the pickleball paddle; removing the flexing to fixedly engage the device with the pickleball paddle; and coupling at least one of the first neck member and the second neck member such that the device defines a shape having a substantially continuous perimeter.
49. A system for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle, the system comprising: a pickleball paddle comprising: a handle including a top portion and a bottom portion; a throat portion engaged with the top portion of the handle;a first face and a second face that opposes the first face, each of the first face and the second face extending from the throat portion of the handle, and each of the first face and the second face structurally configured for striking a ball; and an edge portion disposed between the first face and the second face along an exterior of the paddle; and a device for protecting at least a portion of the pickleball paddle, the device comprising: a first rim sized and shaped to engage with a first junction disposed between the first face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle continuously from at least a first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion to at least a second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion; a second rim sized and shaped to engage with a second junction disposed between the second face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle continuously from at least the first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion to at least the second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion; and a neck connected to each of the first rim and the second rim such that the device defines a shape having a continuous perimeter, the neck defining a void through which at least the bottom portion of the handle of the pickleball paddle is inserted.
50. A device for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle, the device comprising: a first rim sized and shaped to engage continuously with a first junction disposed between a first face and an edge portion of a pickleball paddle from a first corner of the pickleball paddle adjacent to a top portion thereof to a second comer of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the top portion thereof; a second rim sized and shaped to engage continuously with a second junction disposed between a second face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle from the first corner of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the top portion thereof to the second corner of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the top portion thereof; and a plurality of connectors coupling the first rim and the second rim about a perimeter the device such that the plurality of connectors are disposed adjacent the edge portion of the pickleball paddle when the device is engaged therewith, wherein each of the first rim and the second rim terminates at two lower ends thereof, the lower ends of the first rim coupled to the lower ends of the second rim by one of the plurality of connectors located above a throat portion of the pickleball paddle.
51. The device of claim 50, wherein the lower ends of each of the first rim and the second rim are located above both of a first side and a second side of the pickleball paddle.
52. A system for protecting an edge portion of a pickleball paddle, the system comprising: one or more first coupler parts structurally configured for mounting to an edge portion of a pickleball paddle; and a device including: a first rim sized and shaped to engage continuously with a first junction disposed between a first face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle from at least a first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to a throat portion thereof to at least a second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to a throat portion thereof; a second rim sized and shaped to engage continuously with a second junction disposed between a second face and the edge portion of the pickleball paddle from at least the first side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion thereof to at least the second side of the pickleball paddle adjacent to the throat portion thereof; a plurality of connectors coupling the first rim and the second rim about a perimeter the device such that the plurality of connectors are disposed adjacent the edge portion of the pickleball paddle when the device is engaged therewith; and one or more second coupler parts disposed at a bottom end of the device, each of the second coupler parts structurally configured to engage with one of the one or more first coupler parts.
53. The system of claim 52, further comprising: two first coupler parts structurally configured for mounting to the edge portion of the pickleball paddle with one of the first coupler parts located on the first side of the pickleball paddle and the other of the first coupler parts located on the second side of the pickleball paddle; and two second coupler parts disposed at a bottom end of the device.
54. The system of claim 52, wherein each of the first coupler parts includes a plurality of engagement points.
