The invention relates to a system for igniting a fuel-air mixture in a combustion chamber with a corona discharge. The system comprises an electrode inside of the combustion chamber, an electric circuit which provides radio frequency electric power to the electrode, and a ground formed by the combustion chamber walls. A radio frequency voltage differential formed between the electrode and the ground produces a radio frequency electric field therebetween which causes a fuel-air mixture to ionize resulting in combustion of the fuel-air mixture. The system can be utilized in engines such as internal combustion engines or gas turbine engines, for example.

A method of rough shaping a prosthetic joint component that includes a generally spherical polycrystalline diamond compact by electric discharge machining is disclosed. The discharge machining electrode roughens a polycrystalline diamond compact sphere while the electrode and the sphere are rotating about different axes. By controlling the amount of discharge current, the depth and amount of the heat affected zone can be minimized. In the case of a polycrystalline diamond compact, the heat affected zone can be kept to about 3 to 5 microns in depth and is easily removable by grinding and polishing.

Method and apparatus for plasma generation

In a simple method and device for producing plasma flows of a metal and / or a gas electric discharges are periodically produced between the anode and a metal magnetron sputtering cathode in crossed electric and magnetic fields in a chamber having a low pressure of a gas. The discharges are produced so that each discharge comprises a first period with a low electrical current passing between the anode and cathode for producing a metal vapor by magnetron sputtering, and a second period with a high electrical current passing between the anode and cathode for producing an ionization of gas and the produced metal vapor. Instead of the first period a constant current discharge can be used. Intensive gas or metal plasma flows can be produced without forming contracted arc discharges. The selfsputtering phenomenon can be used.

Laser spectral engineering for lithographic process

An integrated circuit lithography technique called spectral engineering by Applicants, for bandwidth control of an electric discharge laser. In a preferred process, a computer model is used to model lithographic parameters to determine a desired laser spectrum needed to produce a desired lithographic result. A fast responding tuning mechanism is then used to adjust center wavelength of laser pulses in a burst of pulses to achieve an integrated spectrum for the burst of pulses approximating the desired laser spectrum. The laser beam bandwidth is controlled to produce an effective beam spectrum having at least two spectral peaks in order to produce improved pattern resolution in photo resist film. Line narrowing equipment is provided having at least one piezoelectric drive and a fast bandwidth detection control system having a time response of less than about 2.0 millisecond. In a preferred embodiment, a wavelength tuning mirror is dithered at dither rates of more than 500 dithers per second in phase with the repetition rate of the laser. In one case, the piezoelectric drive was driven with a square wave signal and in a second case it was driven with a sine wave signal. In another embodiment, the maximum displacement was matched on a one-to-one basis with the laser pulses in order to produce a desired average spectrum with two peaks for a series of laser pulses. Other preferred embodiments utilize three separate wavelength tuning positions producing a spectrum with three separate peaks.

The average grain size of the spherical lithium iron phosphate is between 6 and 8 mum, the electric discharge specific capacity thereof for the first time can reach up to 145-150mAh / g at the room temperature of 0.5C.

The present invention provides a mass spectrometer having an ion lens capable of transporting an ion having a large mass to charge ratio with a high level of ion-passing efficiency even under a low-vacuum atmosphere. To solve this problem, the mass spectrometer according to the present invention includes a voltage controller 21 that controls a variable radiofrequency (RF) voltage generator 24 so that both the amplitude and the frequency of the RF voltage applied to the lens electrodes of an ion lens 5 are changed according to the mass to charge ratio of an ion to be analyzed. This control enables the ion lens 5 to focus an ion and transport it to the subsequent stage with a high level of passing efficiency even in the case of analyzing an ion having a large mass to charge ratio. Thus, the detection sensitivity is improved. The aforementioned control is conducted on the basis of the control data stored in a voltage control data storage 22. These data are obtained in advance by a measurement of a sample containing a substance having a known mass to charge ratio, in which the intensity of the signal of an ion detector is maintained while the analysis conditions are changed.
