Lighting systems and methods of auto-commissioning

A lighting system for areal illumination is disclosed which includes a remote driver and a plurality of fixtures including luminaires, control devices, and/or standalone sensors. The luminaires include a light source whose output light level can be adjusted, a light sensor co-located therewith adapted to measure light received from adjacent fixtures, and a microcontroller capable of transmitting the output of the light sensor over wires to the remote driver. The remote driver is capable of bidirectional communication with the luminaires and provides independently controllable power for the light sources of the luminaires. A method of commissioning a lighting system is also disclosed which includes installing a plurality of luminaires above the area to be illuminated, causing a light source co-located with each luminaire to emit a signal, detecting the signal at light sensors co-located with each luminaire, converting the signals obtained by the light sensors into distance measurements between luminaires, creating a map recording the relative location of luminaires, and assigning luminaires to groups based on their relative locations in the map. A movable orb region large enough to containing a plurality of luminaires can also be defined and the light levels of individual luminaires can be set according to a defined mathematical function of their location within the orb region, where the defined mathematical function sets light levels which vary from the center to the periphery of said orb region.

Dynamic group formation for social interaction

A system and method that facilitates dynamic group formation for social interaction and/or real-time sharing of content with the group is provided. A group formation system includes a user interface component that facilitates a user's entry of information and display of information regarding group formation. For example, the user interface component can be employed, for example, with a mobile communication device such as a mobile phone, personal digital assistant (PDA), a smart phone, a small, web based mobile or a wireless application protocol (WAP) client, and/or a regular web client. The system can further include a group formation component that forms a group based, at least in part, upon information received from a user via the interface component. The group configuration component can further store information regarding groups (e.g., a name/identifier, member(s), event(s) and/or shared context associated with the group) in a group information data store. For example, the group configuration component can form a group based, at least in part, upon information stored in the group information data store (implicit group formation). The group information data store can, optionally, provide archival access to communications and/or shared content (e.g., through a mobile communications device and/or a PC-based web browser).

System and method for the aggregation and matching of information

Embodiments of the invention enable users with communication devices to access affiliate profiles and perform matches on profiles aggregated from multiple independent computer systems regardless of communications device type or operating system and regardless of affiliate match server computer type, operating system or language. Affiliate profiles may comprise user profiles, advertisement profiles or coupon profiles. In addition, embodiments of the invention allow users to broadcast their location with their permission and join groups based on location parameters and connect to or dial other users by alias without knowledge of a machine address or phone number. Embodiments of the invention utilize information from each user in the form of a profile containing metadata. Examples of the type of metadata that comprises a profile include various categories of information describing a user, group, advertisement or coupon. In addition, the profile may comprise the user's groups and the user's preferences including filters for calculating matches with other user, group, advertisement and coupon profiles. Profiles are typically stored on a community engine server, but may also reside in distributed components configured to interface with the community engine server. A user profile may comprise a flag and other fields for example that signify that a user is interested in receiving advertisements for cars and for the type of car that the user is interested in. When a car dealership accepts delivery of a particular model that the user is interested in, the community engine server finds that affiliate profiles comprising aggregated car dealership advertisements include the same car type that the user is interested in and forward the matching advertisement profile to the user. The user may be paid for the advertisement in cash or coupons for accepting the advertisement. A user profile may also comprise a coupon flag and for example when a store that is an affiliate member provides coupon profiles to the community server engine a user may obtain desired coupons that match the user's profile settings if the user's profile is set to accept coupons. A user may match advertisements and coupons based on a location parameter and may transfer or trade advertisements and coupons with other users. The communication device may be capable of displaying a bar code in it's graphical interface while at a store so as to eliminate the need to physically present coupons.
