TECHNIQUES TO REDUCE WIRELESS INTERFERENCETECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] This document is directed generally to digital wireless communications.BACKGROUND

[0002] Mobile telecommunication technologies are moving the world toward an increasingly connected and networked society. In comparison with the existing wireless networks, next generation systems and wireless communication techniques will need to support a much wider range of use-case characteristics and provide a more complex and sophisticated range of access requirements and flexibilities.

[0003] Long-Term Evolution (LTE) is a standard for wireless communication for mobile devices and data terminals developed by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) . LTE Advanced (LTE-A) is a wireless communication standard that enhances the LTE standard. The 5th generation of wireless system, known as 5G, advances the LTE and LTE-Awireless standards and is committed to supporting higher data-rates, large number of connections, ultra-low latency, high reliability and other emerging business needs. Advancements in wireless technology are also made possible with the development of 6th generation of wireless system, known as 6G, which is currently underway.SUMMARY

[0004] Techniques are disclosed for sensing signal interference cancellation methods.

[0005] A first example wireless communication method includes transmitting, by a second network device to a first network device, a request that triggers the first network device to send transmission characteristics of a sensing signal to be transmitted by the first network device; and receiving, by the second network device from the first network device, configuration information for the sensing signal in response to the request, where the configuration information includes one or more resource positions and one or more parameters of the sensing signal.

[0006] In some embodiments, the method further comprises transmitting, by the second network device to one or more network devices neighboring the first network device, sensing interference information that includes at least some information from the configuration information received from the first network device. In some embodiments, zero power signal is  allocated in one or more resources indicated in the sensing interference information, and the one or more resources are to be used by the sensing signal. In some embodiments, the method further comprises receiving, by the second network device from the first network device and after the sensing interference information is transmitted, a sensing measurement or a sensing result. In some embodiments, the sensing measurement include any one or more of angle estimations of the sensing signal, Doppler estimations of the sensing signal, delay estimations of the sensing signal and / or phase estimations of the sensing signal.

[0007] In some embodiments, the sensing result include any one or more of angle estimations of a sensing target, position estimations of the sensing target, velocity estimations of the sensing target, range estimations of the sensing target and / or displacements estimations of the sensing target. In some embodiments, the method further comprises receiving, by the second network device from one or more network devices neighboring to the first network device, an interference report that includes a flag that indicates whether the interference power value is stronger than a certain level or that includes an interference power value. In some embodiments, the second network device determines that interference experienced by the one or more network devices is low in response to the interference power value being less than a certain level or in response to the flag indicating that the interference power value is less than the certain level.

[0008] In some embodiments, the interference report indicates: that interference is weak and that the interference does not affect communications; the interference is strong and that the interference is canceled or avoided; the interference is too strong to cancel and that the interference needs to be adjusted; or the interference is strong to cancel and that the interference is measured to provide sensing information. In some embodiments, the first network device comprises a sensing base station (BS) , and the second network device comprises a sensing function (SF) .

[0009] A second example wireless communication method includes receiving, by a first network device from a second network device, a request that triggers the first network device to send transmission characteristics of a sensing signal to be transmitted by the first network device; and transmitting, by the first network device to the second network device, configuration information for the sensing signal in response to the request, where the configuration information includes one or more resource positions and one or more parameters of the sensing signal.

[0010] In some embodiments, the method further comprises transmitting the sensing signal using the one or more resource positions and / or the one or more parameters to: one or more network devices neighboring to the first network device, and / or one or more user equipment (UEs) located in one or more coverage areas of the one or more network devices; receiving echo signals reflected from a sensing target in response to transmitting the sensing signal; and transmitting, in response to transmitting the sensing signal, a sensing measurement or a sensing result to the second network device. In some embodiments, the sensing measurement include any one or more of angle estimations of the sensing signal, Doppler estimations of the sensing signal, delay estimations of the sensing signal and / or phase estimations of the sensing signal received by the first network device.

[0011] In some embodiments, the sensing result include any one or more of angle estimations of a sensing target, position estimations of the sensing target, velocity estimations of the sensing target, range estimations of the sensing target and / or displacements estimations of the sensing target. In some embodiments, the first network device comprises a sensing base station (BS) , and the second network device comprises a sensing function (SF) .

[0012] A third example wireless communication method includes receiving, by a device from a second network device, sensing interference information that includes at least some information from configuration information for a sensing signal; receiving the sensing signal from a first network device; and performing any one or more of following operations based on the sensing interference information: regenerating a sensing signal, reconstructing propagation channels in corresponding resources, and / or reconstructing the sensing signal and cancel interference caused by the sensing signal.

[0013] In some embodiments, the device is a user equipment (UE) located in a coverage area of the network device. In some embodiments, the device is a network device neighboring to the first network device. In some embodiments, the network device allocates zero power signal in one or more resources indicated in the sensing interference information, the one or more resources are to be used by the sensing signal. In some embodiments, the method further comprises transmitting, by the network device, an interference report that includes a flag that indicates whether the interference power value is stronger than a certain level or that includes an interference power value. In some embodiments, the interference report indicates: that interference is weak and that the interference does not affect communications; the interference is  strong and that the interference is canceled or avoided; the interference is too strong to cancel and that the interference needs to be adjusted; or the interference is strong to cancel and that the interference is measured to provide sensing information. In some embodiments, the first network device comprises a sensing base station (BS) , and the second network device comprises a sensing function (SF) .

[0023] FIG. 10 shows an exemplary flowchart of operations for transmitting configuration information for a sensing signal.

[0024] FIG. 11 shows an exemplary flowchart of performing operation (s) based on sensing interference information.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0025] The orientation of the communication base station (BS) is usually downward which makes the interference of one cell not easy to be exposed to another cell. As shown in FIG. 1, the sensing signal can be transmitted horizontally or even a little bit upwardly to sense targets in the air, and it can cause strong interference to the neighboring cells.

[0026] Owing to the rapid development of wireless communications, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has become a very promising technology for 6G. It empowers future communication systems to not only transmit data but also extract valuable information from the physical world. ISAC has gained growing interest from both academic and industrial fields, leading to a rise in research efforts. Additionally, the ISAC related global standardization has begun. The feasibility study of ISAC has been started by 3GPP Release 19, and ITU has adopted ISAC as one of the six key usage scenarios for 6G.

[0027] As a promising 6G technology, ISAC has many application scenarios, among which the UAV detection is an important one. However, the antenna panel of the BS usually has a downward orientation and serves the user equipments (UEs) on the ground. The antenna panel needs to be adjusted upward mechanically or electronically to sense UAVs. However, this also makes the sensing signal transmit farther and causes stronger interference to other cells.

[0028] Existing methods only deal with communication to communication interference instead of sensing to communication interference. So, this is a new problem and needs new solution to solve it.

[0029] The example headings for the various sections below are used to facilitate the understanding of the disclosed subject matter and do not limit the scope of the claimed subject matter in any way. Accordingly, one or more features of one example section can be combined with one or more features of another example section. Furthermore, 5G terminology is used for the sake of clarity of explanation, but the techniques disclosed in the present document are not limited to 5G technology only, and may be used in wireless systems that implemented other protocols.

[0030] I. Embodiment 1

[0031] In this embodiment, the procedures of the proposed sensing signal interference cancellation method include the following steps that are shown in FIG. 2:

[0032] 1. A core network device may include a sensing function (SF) that transmits a sensing information request to a sensing or ISAC BS. The request includes the requested sensing transmission characteristics. The sensing transmission characteristics may include parameters with which the sensing signal can be generated and / or transmitted by the sensing BS in Step 6A below. The request can also include the sensing reporting configuration.

[0033] 2. The sensing BS determines the sensing resources according to the requested sensing transmission characteristics in the sensing information request.

[0034] 3. The sensing BS transmits a sensing information response to SF. The response includes the sensing signal configurations. The sensing signal configurations may include time and / or frequency resource positions where sensing signal will be transmitted at Step 6A below. The response can also include any one or more of the system frame number (SFN) initialization time, criticality diagnostics, and / or cell global identity. The parameters with which the sensing signal can be generated and / or transmitted by the sensing BS in Step 6A may include the SFN initialization time, criticality diagnostics, and / or cell global identity. In some embodiments, the criticality diagnostics information element (IE) is sent when parts of a received message have not been comprehended or were missing, or if the message contained logical errors.

[0035] 4. The SF can generate the sensing interference information according to the received sensing information response and transmit the sensing interference information to the neighbor BSs. In some embodiments, the sensing interference information may include the same information as that received by the SF in the sensing signal configurations in Step 3. In some other embodiments, the sensing interference information may include additional parameters (in addition to the sensing interference information) or other parameters different from the sensing interference information. For example, the SF can include a parameter related to the generation of sensing signal instead of including the cell global ID, where the parameter may be related to the cell global ID.

[0036] 5. The SF may transmit a sensing activation request to the sensing or ISAC BS. Note this is an optional step.

[0037] 6. The sensing or ISAC BS transmits the sensing signals and causes interference to the neighbor BSs. A sensing target may, as a result of being covered by sensing signals, reflect echo signals back to the sensing BS. The neighbor BSs receive their own communication signals and determine the received sensing signal as the interference. As the neighbor BSs know the  sensing configurations, they regenerate the sensing signals, reconstruct the propagation channels in the corresponding resources, reconstruct the received sensing signals and cancel the interference caused by the sensing signals.

[0038] 7. The sensing or ISAC BS generate and transmit the sensing measurements and / or the sensing results to the SF. The sensing measurements includes any one or more of angle estimations, Doppler estimations, delay estimations and / or phase estimations of the sensing signal received by the sensing BS. The sensing results includes any one or more of angle estimations, position estimations, velocity estimations, range estimations and / or displacements estimations of a sensing target (e.g., vehicle, object, pedestrian) .

[0039] 8. The neighbor BSs transmits the sensing interference report to the SF. The interference report can be the interference power value (e.g., RSSI or RSRP) or a flag indicating whether the interference power is stronger than a certain level. The SF records the sensing interference report, and chooses not to inform the neighbor BS if the same or similar interference to the neighbor BS is low. The SF can determine whether the interference experienced by the neighbor BSs is low if the SF determines that the interference power value is less than a certain level or if the flag indicates that the interference power value is less than the certain level.

[0040] II. Embodiment 2

[0041] In this embodiment, the procedures of the proposed sensing signal interference cancellation method include step 1 to 3 from embodiment 1 and the following steps as shown in FIG. 3:

[0042] 4. The SF can generate the sensing interference information according to the received sensing information response and transmit the sensing interference information to the neighbor BSs. The sensing BS reposts or sends the sensing interference information to the UEs.

[0043] 5. The SF may transmit a sensing activation request to the sensing or ISAC BS. Note this is an optional step.

[0044] 6. The sensing or ISAC BS transmits the sensing signals and causes interference to the UEs in neighbor cells. A sensing target may, as a result of being covered by sensing signals, reflect echo signals back to the sensing BS. The UEs receive their own communication signals and determine the received sensing signal as the interference. As the UEs know the sensing configurations, they regenerate the sensing signals, reconstruct the propagation channels in the  corresponding resources, reconstruct the received sensing signals and cancel the interference caused by the sensing signals.

[0046] 8. The neighbor BSs transmits the sensing interference report to the SF. The interference report can be the interference power or a flag indicating whether the interference power is stronger than a certain level.

[0047] III. Embodiment 3

[0048] In Embodiment 1, the sensing resources occupied by the sensing or ISAC BS are still used by the neighbor BSs. This embodiment shows an alternative method as shown in FIG. 4. The difference is that after step 4, the neighbor BSs allocate zero-power signal in the configured resources that are indicated in the sensing interference information in Step 4, where the configured resources are used by the sensing signals. Also, the neighbor BSs do not need to cancel the sensing interference and only measures it. Steps 6 to 9 in FIG. 4 perform the same operations as those described for respective Steps 5 to 8 in FIG. 2.

[0049] IV. Embodiment 4

[0050] In Embodiment 4, the sensing resources occupied by the sensing or ISAC BS are still used by the UEs in the neighbor cells. This embodiment shows an alternative method as shown in FIG. 5. The difference is that after step 4, the neighbor BSs allocate zero-power signal in the configured resources that are indicated in the sensing interference information in Step 4, where the configured resources are used by the sensing signals. Also, the UEs in the neighbor cells does not need to cancel the sensing interference and only measures it. Steps 6 to 9b in FIG. 5 perform the same operations as those described for respective Steps 5 to 8 in FIG. 3.

[0051] V. Embodiment 5

[0052] The interference report can include the sensing interference power information. The sensing interference power information can indicate one of the following situation: (1) the interference is weak, and it does not affect the communications; (2) the interference caused by sensing signal is strong, but it can be canceled or avoided; (3) the interference is too strong to cancel, and it needs to be adjusted; or (4) the interference is strong to cancel and it can be measured to provide sensing information (e.g., any one or more of angle estimations, position estimations, velocity estimations, range estimations and / or displacements estimations of a sensing target (e.g., vehicle, object, pedestrian) ) . For the situation (1) , the SF may not inform this BS in some similar cases, e.g. the sensing signal is in the same antenna port and not stronger than the previous configuration. For the situation (2) , embodiment 1 can be a following step. For the situation (3) , the SF may inform the sensing or ISAC BS to modify the configurations. For the situation (4) , the neighbor cell can provide extra sensing information.

[0053] The interference report can also include whether the sensing signal is allowed to transmit basing on the how communication is affected by the sensing service. If communication service is not busy or not sensitive to the sensing interference, the interference report can indicate that the sensing signal can be transmitted. Otherwise, it can indicate that the sensing signal can not be transmitted.

[0054] This patent document describes two specific examples. The first example is shown in FIG. 6A and includes the following major steps:

[0055] SF transmits sensing permission request to those BSs which may be affected by the sensing signal. The sensing permission request includes a request of sensing signal measurement which contains the sensing signal related parameters and time-frequency resources for sensing.

[0056] Those BSs measure the sensing signal and evaluate whether the sensing signal causes the interference to their communication services and whether the interference can be canceled by the receiving signal processing.

[0057] Those BSs transmit sensing permission response to the SF. The response contains whether the sensing signal may be allowed to be transmitted and whether the configuration information is required or not.

[0058] The second example is an extension of the first one and is shown in FIG. 6B, which includes the following steps:

[0059] SF transmits sensing permission and collaboration request to those BSs which may receive the sensing signal. The sensing permission request includes a request of sensing signal measurement which contains the sensing signal related parameters and time-frequency resources for sensing.

[0060] Those BSs measure the sensing signal and evaluate whether the sensing signal causes the interference to their communication services, whether the interference can be canceled by the receiving signal processing, and whether they can provide the sensing information via processing the sensing signal.

[0061] Those BSs transmit sensing permission and collaboration response to the SF. The response contains whether the sensing signal may be allowed to be transmitted, whether the configuration information is required or not, and whether the collaboration can be established.

[0062] This patent document describes example techniques that include a method in which a base station (BS) transmits to a sensing-related network element (e.g., a core network device that includes the SF) , a sensing signal configuration including both sensing signal resource positions and sensing signal generation related parameters; and the sensing-related network element transmits the sensing signal configuration to a plurality of neighbor BSs. In some embodiments, the neighbor BSs have uplink or downlink communication at the sensing resources defined in the sensing signal configurations. In some embodiments, if the neighbor BS is in uplink communications at the sensing resources, the neighbor BS detects the sensing signals and cancels the sensing signals if they are detected. In some embodiments, if the neighbor BS is in downlink communications when the sensing signals are transmitted, the neighbor BS further transmits the sensing signal configurations to the serving UEs, and the serving UEs reconstruct and cancel the sensing signals.

[0063] FIG. 7 shows an exemplary block diagram of a hardware platform 700 that may be a part of a network device (e.g., base station) or a communication device (e.g., a user equipment (UE) ) . The hardware platform 700 includes at least one processor 710 and a memory 705 having instructions stored thereupon. The instructions upon execution by the processor 710 configure the hardware platform 700 to perform the operations described in FIGS. 1 to 6B and 8 to 11 and in the various embodiments described in this patent document. The transmitter 715 transmits or sends information or data to another device. For example, a network device transmitter can send  a message to a user equipment. The receiver 720 receives information or data transmitted or sent by another device. For example, a user equipment can receive a message from a network device.

[0064] The implementations as discussed above will apply to a wireless communication. FIG. 8 shows an example of a wireless communication system (e.g., a 5G or NR cellular network) that includes a base station 820 and one or more user equipment (UE) 811, 812 and 813. In some embodiments, the UEs access the BS (e.g., the network) using a communication link to the network (sometimes called uplink direction, as depicted by dashed arrows 831, 832, 833) , which then enables subsequent communication (e.g., shown in the direction from the network to the UEs, sometimes called downlink direction, shown by arrows 841, 842, 843) from the BS to the UEs. In some embodiments, the BS send information to the UEs (sometimes called downlink direction, as depicted by arrows 841, 842, 843) , which then enables subsequent communication (e.g., shown in the direction from the UEs to the BS, sometimes called uplink direction, shown by dashed arrows 831, 832, 833) from the UEs to the BS. The UE may be, for example, a smartphone, a tablet, a mobile computer, a machine to machine (M2M) device, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, and so on.

[0065] FIG. 9 shows an exemplary flowchart of operations for receiving configuration information for a sensing signal. Operation 902 includes transmitting, by a second network device to a first network device, a request that triggers the first network device to send transmission characteristics of a sensing signal to be transmitted by the first network device. Operation 904 includes receiving, by the second network device from the first network device, configuration information for the sensing signal in response to the request, where the configuration information includes one or more resource positions and one or more parameters of the sensing signal.

[0066] In some embodiments, the method further comprises transmitting, by the second network device to one or more network devices neighboring the first network device, sensing interference information that includes at least some information from the configuration information received from the first network device.

[0068] In some embodiments, the interference report indicates: that interference is weak and that the interference does not affect communications; the interference is strong and that the interference is canceled or avoided; the interference is too strong to cancel and that the interference needs to be adjusted; or the interference is strong to cancel and that the interference is measured to provide sensing information. In some embodiments, the first network device comprises a sensing base station (BS) , and the second network device comprises a sensing function (SF) .

[0069] FIG. 10 shows an exemplary flowchart of operations for transmitting configuration information for a sensing signal. Operation 1002 includes receiving, by a first network device from a second network device, a request that triggers the first network device to send transmission characteristics of a sensing signal to be transmitted by the first network device. Operation 1004 includes transmitting, by the first network device to the second network device, configuration information for the sensing signal in response to the request, where the configuration information includes one or more resource positions and one or more parameters of the sensing signal.

[0070] In some embodiments, the method further comprises transmitting the sensing signal using the one or more resource positions and / or the one or more parameters to: one or more network devices neighboring to the first network device, and / or one or more user equipment  (UEs) located in one or more coverage areas of the one or more network devices; receiving echo signals reflected from a sensing target in response to transmitting the sensing signal; and transmitting, in response to transmitting the sensing signal, a sensing measurement or a sensing result to the second network device. In some embodiments, the sensing measurement include any one or more of angle estimations of the sensing signal, Doppler estimations of the sensing signal, delay estimations of the sensing signal and / or phase estimations of the sensing signal received by the first network device.

[0071] In some embodiments, the sensing result include any one or more of angle estimations of a sensing target, position estimations of the sensing target, velocity estimations of the sensing target, range estimations of the sensing target and / or displacements estimations of the sensing target. In some embodiments, the first network device comprises a sensing base station (BS) , and the second network device comprises a sensing function (SF) .

[0072] FIG. 11 shows an exemplary flowchart of performing operation (s) based on sensing interference information. Operation 1102 includes receiving, by a device from a second network device, sensing interference information that includes at least some information from configuration information for a sensing signal. Operation 1104 includes receiving the sensing signal from a first network device. Operation 1106 includes performing any one or more of following operations based on the sensing interference information: regenerating a sensing signal, reconstructing propagation channels in corresponding resources, and / or reconstructing the sensing signal and cancel interference caused by the sensing signal.
