Abstract

A method of PRACH transmission, a method of PRACH reception, and relevant devices are provided. The method of PRACH transmission by a terminal device includes receiving from a network device a DCI formation indicating whether the terminal device applies a pathloss offset in calculation of uplink transmission power of PRACH transmission; and sending a PRACH preamble to the network device by using the uplink transmission power calculated based on a pathloss offset value indicated by the DCI formation if the DCI formation indicates that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset in calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission. This facilitates flexibly controlling the uplink transmission power of PRACH transmission.

Description

METHOD OF PRACH TRANSMISSION, METHOD OF PRACH RECEPTION, AND RELEVANT DEVICES

[0001] BACKGROUND OF DISCLOSURE

[0002] 1. Field of the Disclosure

[0003] The present application relates to the field of communication systems, and more particularly, to a method of PRACH transmission, a method of PRACH reception, and relevant devices.2. Description of the Related Art

[0004] In cellular wireless communication systems developed by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) , user equipment (UE) is connected by a wireless link to a radio access network (RAN) . The RAN includes a set of base stations (BSs) which provide wireless links to UEs located in cells covered by the base station and an interface to a core network (CN) which provides overall network control. The RAN and CN each conduct respective functions in relation to the overall network. The so-called 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) system, namely, an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunication System Territorial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) has been developed for a mobile access network where one or more macro-cells are supported by a base station known as an eNodeB or eNB (evolved NodeB) . Evolved from LTE, the so-called 5G or new radio (NR) systems where one or more cells are supported by a base station known as a gNB. Envisioned to succeed the current 5G networks, the 6G cellular system is the forthcoming generation of wireless communication technology.

[0005] NR / 5G system supports PDCCH ordered PRACH transmission. PDCCH ordered PRACH transmission is a mechanism by which the gNB can order the UE to initiate a PRACH transmission. One example use case for this mechanism is when the gNB finds the timing between the gNB and UE needs further improvement, the gNB can order the UE to transmit a PRACH and then the gNB can measure the uplink timing. In NR / 5G system, the gNB uses DCI format 0_1 to trigger the PDCCH ordered PRACH transmission. The basic procedure is illustrated in FIG. 1.

[0006] As shown in FIG. 1, the gNB first provides the configuration of PRACH to a UE at Step S10. When the gNB needs a PRACH for example to refine the timing, the gNB can send DCI format 1_0 to trigger the UE to transmit a PRACH at Step S12. When the UE receives the DCI format 1_0 for PDCCH order PRACH, the UE chooses a PRACH preamble by following the configuration provided by the gNB and then transmits the selected PRACH preamble in the corresponding PRACH resource at Step S14. Then the gNB detects the PRACH preamble at Step S16 and after that, the gNB sends the response to the UE at Step S18.

[0007] The DCI format 1_0 that the gNB uses to trigger PRACH transmission has the following fields:

[0008] - Random Access Preamble Index: that is used to indicate an index of a PRACH preamble that the UE shall choose to transmit

[0009] - UL / SUL indicator: this field is used to indicate which uplink carrier in the cell to transmit the PRACH.

[0010] - SS / PBCH index: this field indicates the SS / PBCH that shall be used to determine the RACH occasion for the PRACH transmission.

[0011] - PRACH Mask index: this field indicates the RACH occasion associated with the SS / PBCH indicated by "SS / PBCH index" for the PRACH transmission.

[0012] In NR / 5G system, the PDCCH ordered PRACH can be used to trigger either a contention-based random-access procedure or contention-free random access procedure.

[0013] However, the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission cannot be flexibly adjusted.

[0014] Furthermore, the current PDCCH ordered PRACH cannot trigger the UE to transmit PRACH preamble to a TRP without DL transmission. Therefore, in the deployment scenarios with TRPs with only uplink transmission, the system cannot use the method of PDCCH ordered PRACH to calculate the fine uplink timing of those TRPs with only uplink transmission. No proper uplink timing could improve the performance of such deployment scenarios significantly.SUMMARY

[0041] In some embodiments, the processor 11 of the terminal device 10 is utilized to receive from a network device a downlink control information (DCI) formation indicating whether the terminal device applies a pathloss offset in calculation of uplink transmission power of physical random access channel (PRACH) transmission, and send a PRACH preamble to the network device by using the uplink transmission power calculated based on a pathloss offset value indicated by the DCI formation if the DCI formation indicates that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset in calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission. This facilitates flexibly controlling the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission so that the system can adjust the power of PRACH transmission properly.

[0042] In some embodiments, the processor 21 of the network device 20 is utilized to send to a terminal device a downlink control information (DCI) formation indicating whether the terminal device applies a pathloss offset in calculation of uplink transmission power of physical random access channel (PRACH) transmission, and receive from the terminal device a PRACH preamble transmitted using the uplink transmission power calculated based on a pathloss offset value indicated by the DCI formation if the DCI formation indicates that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset in calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission. This facilitates flexibly controlling the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission so that the system can adjust the power of PRACH transmission properly.

[0043] FIG. 3 illustrates a method of PRACH transmission 100 by a terminal device according to an embodiment of the present application. In some embodiments, the method 100 includes the following. In Block 102, the terminal device (e.g., a user equipment (UE) ) receives from a network device (e.g., a base station, or a gNB) a downlink control information (DCI) formation indicating whether the terminal device applies a pathloss offset in calculation of uplink transmission power of physical random access channel (PRACH) transmission. The DCI formation may include DCI format 1_0. For example, a bit value 0 contained in the DCI formation may be used to indicate that the terminal device does not apply the pathloss offset in calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission, while a bit value 1 contained in the DCI formation may be used to indicate that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset in calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission, and vice versa. In Block 104, the terminal device sends a PRACH preamble to the network device by using the uplink transmission power calculated based on a pathloss offset value indicated by the DCI formation if the DCI formation indicates that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset in calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission. That is, the DCI formation can contain a pathloss offset value, and if the DCI formation indicates that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset in calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission, the terminal device calculates the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission based on the pathloss offset value indicated by the DCI formation and then sends the PRACH preamble using the calculated transmission power. The uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission may be calculated based on a maximum allowable transmission power, a target power of the PRACH transmission, an estimated path loss and the pathloss offset value (which are detailed below) .

[0044] The proposed method of PRACH transmission 100 can flexibly control the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission so that the system can adjust the power of PRACH transmission properly and thus performance of the system would be improved.

[0045] In some embodiments, the method may further include being configured with a list of pathloss offset values through a high layer configuration, wherein the DCI formation includes a pathloss offset indicator field with a bit field index mapped to an entry in the configured list of pathloss offset values and an applying pathloss offset indicator field indicating whether the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission. More particularly, the pathloss offset indicator field has  bits, where N is the number of pathloss offset values in the configured list, and a bit field index n of the pathloss offset indicator field is mapped to a (n+1) -th entry in the configured list of pathloss offset values, where n≥0. More particularly, the applying pathloss offset indicator field is one-bit long, and a first bit field index (e.g., 0, or 1 in another case) of the applying pathloss offset indicator field indicates that the terminal device does not apply the pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission while a second bit field index (e.g., 1, or 0 in another case) of the applying pathloss offset indicator field indicates that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission.

[0046] In some embodiments, the method may further include being configured with a list of pathloss offset values through a high layer configuration, wherein the DCI formation includes a pathloss offset indicator field, and a specific bit field index (e.g., 0) of the pathloss offset indicator field indicates that the terminal device does not apply the pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission and other bit field indexes (e.g., 1, 2, 3, …, and so on) of the pathloss offset indicator field are mapped to the pathloss offset values in the configured list. More particularly, the pathloss offset indicator field has  bits if the terminal device is configured with the list of pathloss offset values, where N is the number of pathloss offset values in the configured list, and a bit field index 0 of the pathloss offset indicator field indicates that the terminal device does not apply the pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission and a bit field index n of the pathloss offset indicator field is mapped to a n-th entry in the configured list of pathloss offset values, where n >0.

[0047] In some embodiments, the method may further include being configured with one or more transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states configured with the pathloss offset value, wherein the DCI formation includes a pathloss offset indicator field, and a first bit field index (e.g., 0, or 1 in another case) of the pathloss offset indicator field indicates that the terminal device does not apply the pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission while a second bit field index (e.g., 1, or 0 in another case) of the pathloss offset indicator field indicates that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset value configured in an indicated TCI state which contains the pathloss offset value on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission.

[0048] In some embodiments, the method may further include being configured with one or more transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states configured with the pathloss offset value, wherein the DCI formation includes a pathloss offset indicator field, and a first bit field index (e.g., 0, or 1 in another case) of the pathloss offset indicator field indicates that the terminal device does not apply the pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission while a second bit field index (e.g., 1, or 0 in another case) of the pathloss offset indicator field indicates that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset value configured in one of indicated TCI states which contains the pathloss offset value on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission.

[0049] FIG. 4 illustrates a method of PRACH reception 200 by a network device according to an embodiment of the present application. In some embodiments, the method 200 includes the following. In Block 202, the network device (e.g., base station or gNB) sends to a terminal device (e.g., a user equipment (UE) ) a downlink control information (DCI) formation indicating whether the terminal device applies a pathloss offset in calculation of uplink transmission power of physical random access channel (PRACH) transmission. In Block 204, the network device receives from the terminal device a PRACH preamble transmitted using the uplink transmission power calculated based on a pathloss offset value indicated by the DCI formation if the DCI formation indicates that the terminal device should apply the pathloss offset in calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission. This facilitates flexibly controlling the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission so that the system can adjust the power of PRACH transmission properly and thus performance of the system would be improved. Other details of the method 200 may be referred to the method 100 described above and are not repeated herein.

[0050] Further details about the invention are provided below.

[0051] The system can use one DCI formation to request the UE to transmit one PRACH and the system can use the DCI formation to indicate whether the UE shall apply one pathloss offset value in the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission and also to indicate the pathloss offset value which the UE shall apply on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the triggered PRACH transmission.

[0052] In a first method, a UE can be indicated to apply one pathloss offset value β on a PRACH transmission and the UE shall calculate the transmission power of the PRACH as follows: PPRACH=min {PCMAX, PPRACH_Target+PL-β}

[0053] where PPRACH represents the transmission power of the PRACH, PCMAX represents the maximum allowable UE transmission power, PPRACH_Target represents a target power of PRACH, PL is an estimated path loss, and β is the pathloss offset value.

[0054] In a second method, a UE can be indicated to apply one pathloss offset value β on a PRACH transmission and the UE shall calculate the transmission power of the PRACH as follows: PPRACH=min {PCMAX, PPRACH_Target+PL+β}

[0055] where PPRACH represents the transmission power of the PRACH, PCMAX represents the maximum allowable UE transmission power, PPRACH_Target represents a target power of PRACH, PL is an estimated path loss, and β is the pathloss offset value.

[0056] In one method, a UE can be provided with a first list of N pathloss offset values through high layer configuration. When the UE is provided with the first list, the gNB can send one DCI format 1_0 to trigger a PDCCH-order RACH transmission. The DCI format 1_0 can include one or more of the following fields:

[0057] - Pathloss offset indicator: this field has bits and the bit field index n of the pathloss offset indicator is mapped to the (n+1) -th entry in the configured first list of N pathloss offset values.

[0058] - Applying pathloss offset indicator: this field has 1 bit. This field indicates whether the UE shall apply a pathloss offset on the calculation of uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission. In one example, the bit field index 0 of this field indicates that the UE does not apply pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission and the bit field index 1 of this field indicates that the UE shall apply pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission. In one example, the bit field index 1 of this field indicates that the UE does not apply pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission and the bit field index 0 of this field indicates that the UE shall apply pathloss offset on the calculation of the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission.

[0059] In one method, a UE can be provided with a first list of N pathloss offset values through high layer configuration. When the UE is provided with the first list, the gNB can send one DCI format 1_0 to trigger a PDCCH-order RACH transmission. The DCI format 1_0 can include one or more of the following fields:

[0060] - Pathloss offset indicator: this field has bits if the UE is configured with a first list of N pathloss offset values; 0 bit otherwise. The bit field index 0 of this field indicates that the UE does not apply pathloss offset value and other bit field indexes are mapped to pathloss offset values in the configured first list according to an ascending order of the entry index in the first list. In other word, the bit field index n (>0) is mapped to the n-th entry of the configured first list.

[0061] The NR / 5G systems implement the function of beam indication through the signaling of TCI states. The UE can be first provided with a list of joint TCI states, or a list of DL TCI states and a list of UL TCI states. Each joint TCI state can provide the configuration information of QCL typeD for downlink reception (where the QCL typeD provides the spatial Rx parameter for downlink reception) and reference information of UL Tx spatial filter for uplink transmission.

[0062] In one method, a UE can be provided with K TCI states and one or more TCI states can be configured with a pathloss offset value. The TCI state can be one joint TCI state. The TCI state can be one UL TCI state. The UE can be indicated with one or more joint TCI states for both DL and UL transmission. The UE can be indicated with one or more UL TCI state for UL transmission.

[0063] ● In one example, the gNB can send one DCI format 1_0 to trigger a PDCCH-order RACH transmission and the DCI format 1_0 can include one or more of the following fields:

[0064] ○ Pathloss offset indicator: this field has 1 bit if at least one TCI state is configured with pathloss offset value; 0 bit otherwise. The bit field index 0 of this field indicates that the UE does not apply pathloss offset value and the bit field index 1 of this field indicates that the UE shall apply the pathloss offset value configured in the indicated TCI state which contains pathloss offset value on the calculation of uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission. In another example, the bit field index 1 of this field indicates that the UE does not apply pathloss offset value and the bit field index 0 of this field indicates that the UE shall apply the pathloss offset value configured in the indicated TCI state which contains pathloss offset value on the calculation of uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission

[0065] ● In one example, the gNB can send one DCI format 1_0 to trigger a PDCCH-order RACH transmission. If one of the indicated TCI states contains one pathloss offset value, the DCI format 1_0 can include one or more of the following fields:

[0066] ○ Pathloss offset indicator: this field has 1 bit if at least one of the indicated TCI states is configured with pathloss offset value; 0 bit otherwise. In another example, the bit field index 1 of this field indicates that the UE does not apply pathloss offset value and the bit field index 0 of this field indicates that the UE shall apply the pathloss offset value configured in the indicated TCI state which contains pathloss offset value on the calculation of uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission.

[0067] With the proposed method, the system can flexibly control the uplink transmission power of the PRACH transmission so that the system can adjust the power of PRACH transmission properly in the deployment scenarios of UL-only TRPs.
