Description

[0001] A LATERAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT

[0002] Technical Field

[0003] The present invention relates to lateral protection equipment.

[0004] The present invention particularly relates to lateral protection equipment for increasing fuel efficiency in trailers and semi-trailer vehicles.

[0005] State of the Art

[0006] Trailers are non-motorized vehicles that are pulled by a motor vehicle and have at least one axle designed according to criteria such as load-carrying capacity, safety and durability. These vehicles are used by connecting them to the towing vehicle through various connection mechanisms such as drawbar, turntables, hook and king pin. In the design of trailers, the aerodynamic performance of the vehicle is as important as the safe transportation of the load.

[0007] Lateral protection equipment (bicycle guardrail / plate) is a structural element used to protect trailers against lateral forces. This guardrail helps protect the trailer against environmental (wind, air currents, etc.) and non-environmental (crash, impact, etc.) effects that may come from the side, while also aiming to minimize the drag forces acting on the trailer. However, current lateral protection equipment designs have limited use and are optimized only for the safety of bicycles, cyclists and pedestrians. These designs fall short of the goal of reducing fuel consumption, primarily because of their low aerodynamic efficiency.

[0008] To increase aerodynamic efficiency, the openings on the side of the trailer must be closed. Such closures can increase fuel efficiency by reducing the vehicle's air resistance. However, these systems also bring with them some problems. First of all, such closures add additional weight to the trailer and their integration into existing systems can present various difficulties. In addition, although these systems are designed to withstand outdoor conditions, they may experience performance loss under extremely harsh environmental conditions.

[0009] Therefore, existing lateral protection equipment systems are limited to a specific purpose and lack flexibility and adaptability in terms of multi-purpose use. As a result, the existence of the above-mentioned problems and the inadequacy of existing solutions in responding to these problems have necessitated new developments in the relevant technical field. In this context, the development of more aerodynamic and functional lateral protection equipment has become a critical requirement for both increasing fuel efficiency and ensuring vehicle safety.

[0010] As a result of the research conducted on the subject, a patent application titled “Bicycle guardrail structure” numbered TR2023 / 004389 was found. The relevant application is related to the bicycle guardrail structure, which is used in the automotive industry, especially in trucks, vans and trailers, and whose distance to the ground can be adjusted when not in use, and includes a mounting leg that connects the guardrail body, which can be moved within the slot formed on it, to the vehicle chassis, and a nut located on the mounting leg that connects the guardrail body to the mounting leg in a vertical manner.

[0011] As a result, due to the abovementioned disadvantages and the insufficiency of the current solutions regarding the subject matter, a development is required to be made in the relevant technical field.

[0012] Object of the Invention

[0013] The present invention aims to solve the above-mentioned drawbacks, and it is inspired by the current situation

[0014] The main object of the present invention is to present a lateral protection equipment (sheet) structure that aims to increase fuel efficiency by reducing carbon emissions in accordance with ECE R73 standards.

[0015] The lateral protection equipment developed with the invention offers higher functionality compared to existing designs. Its foldable structure allows for easy checks before the journey, and once these checks are completed, the railing can be folded to allow the journey to continue. This both improves user experience and increases operational efficiency.

[0016] The aerodynamic performance of existing lateral protection equipment remains limited. However, the new design has been optimized to better meet aerodynamic needs. This new lateral protection equipment significantly improves the aerodynamic performance of the trailer by regulating the airflow around the vehicle. This arrangement reduces drag forces on the vehicle and lowers fuel consumption. This feature has been achieved particularly by using flow-cavity profiles and aerodynamic profiles. These profiles direct the airflow and minimize the vehicle's aerodynamic drag.

[0017] Another advantage of the invention is its capacity to protect both the trailer and the tires from environmental (e.g. side winds) and non-environmental (e.g. impact, impact) factors that affect the trailer from the side. This protection increases the overall safety of the vehicle, while also extending tire life and reducing maintenance costs. Thanks to its versatile design, the new lateral protection equipment offers a significant improvement not only in terms of safety but also in terms of reducing operational costs and increasing efficiency.

[0018] The invention overcomes the limitations of existing systems and provides the flexibility and adaptability required for multi-purpose use. Thanks to its structural features that increase aerodynamic performance, the new lateral protection equipment reduces fuel consumption while also improving the performance and safety of the trailer.

[0019] The present invention relates to a lateral protection equipment that is used by being mounted on the sides of the vehicle to distribute the air flow and increase fuel efficiency in order to reduce the drag effect caused by the air while driving in trailers and semitrailers in order to fulfil the purposes described above and comprising:

[0020] • a first profile positioned to cover the gap in front of the rear tires of the vehicle,

[0021] • a second profile that can be moved onto the first profile by sliding and positioned to cover the rear tires of the vehicle,

[0022] • a third profile that can be moved onto the second profile by sliding and positioned to cover the rear tires of the vehicle,

[0023] • rails that are located on the lower and upper edges of the first profile, second profile and third profile to ensure that the first profile, second profile and third profile are sliding, flow gap on the first profile to regulate air flow during driving and reduce fuel consumption of the vehicle. The structural and characteristic features of the present invention will be understood clearly by the following drawings and the detailed description made with reference to these drawings and therefore the evaluation shall be made by taking these figures and the detailed description into consideration.

[0038] Detailed Description of the Invention

[0039] In this detailed description, the preferred embodiments of the lateral protection equipment (A) of the present invention are described solely for the purpose of a better understanding of the subject matter.

[0040] In Figure 4 and Figure 5, the lateral protection equipment used in the state of the art (B) is shown. As can be seen here, only the space in front of the tires is covered and the part where the tires are located remains open.

[0041] The lateral protection equipment (A) which is the subject of the invention basically comprises a first profile (1 ), a second profile (2) and a third profile (3) which can slide and move within the said first profile (1 ). The first profile (1 ) is used by mounting it on the sides of trailer or semi-trailer type vehicles. The first profile (1 ), the second profile (2) and the third profile (3) are rectangular in shape and there are rails (4) on the upper and lower edges of each of them to ensure that the said profiles are sliding. Accordingly, the third profile (3) can be slid onto the second profile (2); the second profile (2) can be slid onto the first profile (1 ). Thus, the length of the lateral protection equipment (A) which is the subject of the invention can be shortened or extended. There is a handle (5) on the second profile (2) and the third profile (3), and when the said handle (5) is held and pulled by hand, the second profile (2) and the third profile (3) are made to slide.

[0042] When the lateral protection equipment (A) in the subject of the invention is in the open position, the second profile (2) and the third profile (3) are positioned to cover the rear tires of the vehicle; and the first profile (1 ) is positioned to cover the gap in front of the rear tires of the vehicle.

[0043] There is a flow gap (1 a) on the first profile (1 ). The flow gap (1 a) mentioned regulates the air flow during driving, thus reducing the fuel consumption of the vehicle.

[0044] The first profile (1 ), second profile (2) and third profile (3) serve to distribute the air flow in order to reduce the drag effect caused by the air while driving, thanks to their aerodynamic structure.

[0045] The use of the lateral protection equipment (A) which is the subject of the invention is as follows:

[0046] Before starting to drive, the tires are checked by shortening the lateral protection equipment (A), which includes the first profile (1 ), the second profile (2) and the third profile (3), which can slide on each other with the help of the handles (5). The lateral protection equipment (A) is then extended using the handles (5) again. It reduces the drag effect on the vehicle by regulating the side air flow to the vehicle during driving, thanks to the aerodynamic profiles (first profile (1 ), second profile (2) and third profile (3)). In addition, thanks to the flow gap (1 a) in the first profile (1 ), the air flow is regulated and the fuel consumption of the vehicle is reduced.
