1567 results about "Semi-trailer" patented technology

A semi-trailer is a trailer without a front axle. In the United States, the term is also used to refer to the combination of a truck and a semi-trailer, a tractor-trailer. A large proportion of a semi-trailer's weight is supported by a tractor unit, or a detachable front-axle assembly known as a dolly, or the tail of another trailer. A semi-trailer is normally equipped with landing gear (legs which can be lowered) to support it when it is uncoupled. Many semi-trailers have wheels that are capable of being totally dismounted and are also relocatable (repositionable) to better distribute load to bearing wheel weight factors. Semi-trailers are more popular for transport than full trailers, which have both front and rear axles. Ease of backing is cited as one of the semi's chief advantages. A road tractor coupled to a semi-trailer is often called a semi-trailer truck or "semi" in North America & Australia, and an articulated lorry or "artic" in the UK.

Underdeck carrier system for mobile containers for segregating product types in common shipment

InactiveUS20100253519A1Reduces carton cost carton cost cartonReduces carton cost carton packing cost cartonSatellite radio beaconingItem transportation vehiclesProduct typeTransit system
A transportation system for secure, auditable and trackable smart mobile containers (SMC) for securely shipping less than truckload volumes of products that require special handing segregation as controlled products, such as ethical drugs, along with general, non-controlled merchandise. Dedicated semi-trailer lockers are secured under the deck I-beam framing, including lockable fold-down doors that become ramps for loading / unloading. The lockers are mounted back to back along the center line of the trailer under-deck. Each SMC includes a electronics package that can read RFID tags, has condition sensors and an RF module to permit remote monitoring of location and cargo / container conditions. The SMC can include an electronic lock that provides access security, and an audit trail of all opening and closing events.

Aerodynamic combination for improved base drag reduction

InactiveUS6959958B2Maximum base drag savingReduce base dragVehicle seatsWindowsBody shapeEngineering
An improved method and device for reducing the base drag of bluff bodies, including large boxy highway vehicles such as semi-trailer trucks, which uses low drag vortex generators in combination with either a trailing panel or shortened boattail plates, to provide greater base drag reduction than other previously known methods. The preferred embodiment reduces the required length of boattail plates by over half, making it compatible with current U.S. regulations for trailer underride bars, and providing easier access for rear cargo doors. The device is easily installed as an add-on device on both new and existing truck bodies. In an alternate configuration, the shape of one or more sets of shortened boattail plates can be built into the rear body shape of vehicles, to maximize the interior volume for a given total vehicle length.

Electric drive fracturing semi-trailer of frequency conversion integrated machine

The invention discloses an electric drive fracturing semi-trailer of a frequency conversion integrated machine. The optimization and integration of the traditional power supply semi-trailer and the fracturing semi-trailer realize the functions of power supply and fracturing of one semi-trailer without using the complete set of the power supply semi-trailer and the fracturing semi-trailer, the electric drive fracturing semi-trailer is more flexible in actual use, and the well field layout of oil and gas fields is greatly optimized; the transportation is convenient; only a set of high-voltage cables can be connected with the high-voltage power supply to reach a working state, and the wiring installation is faster; compared with diesel-driven fracturing, and the noise of the electric drive fracturing is low without exhaust emission pollution; the driving source is power, which has lower cost than the diesel; the electric drive fracturing semi-trailer adopts an integrated design of a motorand a frequency converter (namely, the frequency conversion integrated machine), the space occupied by the electric motor and the inverter in the prior art is reduced effectively, so the installing part of the electric drive fracturing semi-trailer has smaller volume and the transportation is more convenient, and can also provide space guarantee for installing other equipment on the semi-trailerbody.

Mobile assembly hall

A trailer, such as a conventional full trailer or semi trailer used for hauling freight, is convertible into an assembly hall by folding its sidewalls upwardly to define ceiling extensions extending from the trailer roof. Additional floor extensions which are pivotally affixed to the sides of the trailer floor may then be folded downwardly in substantially parallel relation to the trailer floor to define an assembly hall floor. The floor extensions fold in nested relation between the folding trailer sidewalls / ceiling extensions such that the entire arrangement fits within the same space envelope as the conventional trailer. Once unfolded, the trailer may be used as a shelter / assembly hall for meetings and other events, and may be provided with interior seating, safety railings, and other enhancements.

Method of conforming an adherent film to a substrate by application of vacuum

Films are closely conformed to substrates by reducing the air pressure to a subatmospheric level in at least one airflow pathway that is present in the film or the substrate. The reduced air pressure enables the film to tightly contact the substrate in locations where protrusions or depressions on the substrate are present. The method is particularly useful for conforming film containing graphics to a variety of substrates such as the sides of semi-trailers or concrete block walls, even in instances where the semi-trailer sides include rivets and / or grooves and where the concrete block wall is relatively rough.

Semitrailer cargo door locking system

A semitrailer cargo door locking system is described for use with a semitrailer cargo door having as part of its opening mechanism a rotatable handle which secured within a hasp mechanism comprising a rigid lower hasp and a swivelable upper hasp. The locking system includes a shackleless keyed lock having an internal bolt for engaging aligned holes provided in the upper and lower hasps, thereby preventing unauthorized opening of the cargo doors when in a locked state. The lock housing is provided both with a protective extension to minimize attempts to pry the lock, and with a tapered side wall to prevent removal by the application of a destructive torque applied by a wrench or other like device. The lock is further provided with a anchor line for either permanently or removably securing the lock to the cargo door. To provide the lock with the ability to be used with regulated loads, a means may also be provided to attach a sealing structure to the lock.

INTEGRATED PROPULSION & STEERING For Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV), AV (Autonomous Vehicles); Electric Trucks, Buses and Semi-Trailers

A vehicle, integrated all-wheel propulsion and steering system with plurality of propulsion and steering power sources, designed with enumerate specifications are coupled to, and de-coupled from a final drive of the vehicle propulsion system. A controller receives input-signals from the driver steering-wheel sensor; computes a set of reactions to the plurality of steering-actuators, wherein feedback-mechanism with each wheel-position sensor, the controller secures each wheel in its computed angle. In different speed and load conditions, the controller is programmed to compute a desired power demand then couple to the final drive[s] the propulsion power source[s] that is designed to do-the-job with the least energy consumption. When the vehicle changes speed and load, the controller couples a different power source[s], and de-couples the previous power source[s] to meet the power demand. In turning-modes, whilst positioning every wheel in its computed position, the controller computes the different distances the left and the right wheels of the vehicle have to travel, wherein the controller moves-up the propulsion power sources velocity to the wheels opposite to the turn to make a perfect turn without EPS assistance.

Trailer landing gear

A landing gear assembly for a semitrailer includes a pair of legs that may be simultaneously raised or lowered by turning a single crank. Each of the legs is configured to be able to be mounted in either an inboard or outboard configuration. This is achieved by providing both sides of each leg with no protrusions that extend beyond the space provided in the mounting bracket and the mounting hole used to connect the landing gear to the semitrailer. The gear assembly of the landing gear includes a unique floor base that receives and supports the input shaft. A cover is used to support the input ends of the input shaft and the output shaft. The cover is connected to the input side of the upper tube of the leg and allows the gear assembly to be easily assembled within the perimeter of the upper leg.
