[0020] An image forming apparatus (IFA) is used to form a printing image on a printing medium (e.g., paper) using printing material in a cartridge mounted in the IFA. The IFA often relies on intricate mechanisms (referred to as “cartridge operating mechanism”) to control the operation of cartridge.

[0021] Such cartridge operating mechanism includes a locking part, delicately integrated with other parts of the cartridge operating mechanism, to hold the cartridge in place (e.g., within the IFA) until the depletion of the printing material contained in the cartridge. It should be appreciated, therefore, that reducing the design complexity and space requirements regarding the cartridge operating mechanism may be of interest.

In some examples, the cartridge locking apparatus includes a housing having an engagement member to detachably engage with a frame of the IFA. That is, the cartridge locking apparatus can be removed from or installed in the IFA whenever desired, allowing for the selective use of the cartridge locking apparatus. This modular approach can improve the design and manufacturing complexities, thereby reducing the malfunctions and interference issues.
