Description

[0001]An enema nozzle and an enema device comprising said enema nozzle. The present invention relates to an enema nozzle for delivering an enema, and an enema device comprising said enema nozzle. Administrating an enema is a common medical procedure whereby fluid is injected into the rectum and lower intestine of a patient in order to induce bowel movement. The need for such a procedure typically arises in patients suffering from certain physical ailments in which voluntary bowel control is impaired or when the bowel needs to be cleaned before e.g. a coloscopy or a surgical operation. Enemas are often administered to a patient at home when the need for medical assistance does not necessitate a doctor or another health care assistant. In this respect it is often difficult for the patient to administer the enema liquid to himself or herself since the conventional enema devices often causes discomfort and irritation when being inserted. Moreover, it is difficult for the patient to administer the liquid while steadily holding the enema nozzle in place during the procedure. Often another individual assists the patient but assistance may not always be available, if for instance, the patient lives alone. In order to overcome these problems a number of enema devices, comprising different retention means for retaining the nozzle in the rectum / colon during administration of the enema, have been developed. Such a device is e.g. disclosed in US patent no. 5,074,842 which describes an irrigation device having a fixation balloon that is inflated using air, and wherein the air is delivered through a syringe valve communicating with an air passage. Similar systems are known from EP1531885, which describes an irrigation device comprising a liquid reservoir and an air- inflated balloon for fixation of a tubular part inserted in the rectum, and WO2011023196, which describes a system which uses liquid to inflate the balloon / retention member. Since air or liquid is used to inflate the retention member / balloon in these known devices, these know enema systems are relatively complex constructions which may be difficult and time consuming to use. Not only must the device be arranged for delivering air / liquid to the balloon for retaining the enema nozzle in the body opening to be irrigated, but said air / liquid must also be removed from said balloon when the enema nozzle has to be removed from the body opening. The air or liquid may either be vented to the surroundings or delivered to the rectum and / or colon before the nozzle is removed from the rectum, and the user needs to be sure that the balloon in completely deflated in order to prevent damage to e.g. the rectal wall. Furthermore, use of an air-filled balloon has the problems that the balloon will react to the body movements, e.g. peristaltic reflexes, whereby the nozzle inconveniently may be displaced causing leakage. The air from the balloon cannot be delivered to the colon as this will result in an additional distention or dilation of the colon resulting in pain and discomfort for the patient. A further problem with the use of inflated balloons is that if the balloon is overfilled the balloon may rupture causing both damage to the fragile wall of the colon / rectum and leakage of the liquid filled content of the colon / rectum. Furthermore, if the balloon is filled too little it cannot safely keep the enema nozzle in place during use. This is not only unwelcoming for the patient but also very demeaning, as the surroundings inevitability will be contaminated with irrigation liquid and bodily excretions if the enema nozzle unintentionally falls out. It is therefore a first aspect of the present invention to provide an enema nozzle which can be retained in a body opening, e.g. colon / rectum without the use of an expandable retention means such as an inflatable balloon. It is a second aspect of the present invention to provide an enema nozzle arranged for being connected to an enema device, which nozzle that can be inserted into an opening to be irrigated, without causing discomfort, trauma and / or injuries. It is a third aspect of the present invention to provide an enema nozzle arranged for providing a relatively fast delivery of the enema and / or reduce the pressure from the enema to the surrounding tissue during administration. It is a fourth aspect of the present invention to provide an enema nozzle that is inexpensive to manufacture and is simple and reliable to use. It is a fifth aspect of the present invention to provide an enema nozzle that is relatively small and easy to operate. These and further aspects are achieved according to the present invention by providing an enema nozzle arranged for delivering an enema to a user, said enema nozzle comprises a drop-shaped insertion tip and an elongated insertion body, wherein the enema nozzle comprises at least one flow channel in flow communication with at least one elongated delivery opening, said at least one elongated delivery opening is arranged in the drop-shaped insertion tip, preferably in an outer surface of said insertion tip, and extends in the longitudinal direction of the enema nozzle. Within the context of the present invention the term “drop- shaped” means that at least the distal section of the insertion tip substantially is shaped as a sphere and / or an ellipsoid (oblate or prolate) and / or as a section of a sphere or ellipsoid and that said sphere / ellipsoid tapers inwards (gradually decreases in width) towards a proximal end of the insertion tip. Accordingly, the term “drop-shaped” refers to a drop-like shape in which a distal section of the drop-shaped insertion tip is sphere-formed or ellipsoid-formed and wherein said sphere- or ellipsoid-form converges towards a proximal end of the insertion tip. The distal section of said insertion tip may in one embodiment have the shape of a hemisphere, it is however preferred that the distal section of the insertion tip has the shape of a dome, e.g. an ellipsoidal dome or a spherical dome wherein said dome is cut below (in a position of use, i.e. the distal end of the enema nozzle points upwards) a first plane going though the center of a corresponding sphere or ellipsoid, said first plan being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the enema nozzle. Thus, the corresponding sphere or ellipsoid may in a second plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the enema nozzle be divided into a main dome, which overlaps with the outer surface of the drop-shaped insertion tip, and a minor dome that does not overlap with the outer surface of the insertion tip. The intersection between said two domes is placed below the first plane, and at said intersection the main dome, i.e. the drop-shaped insertion tip, smoothly extends into the elongated insertion body. The height of the main dome is about two to eight times, such as four to six times, the height of the minor dome, thereby providing the desired drop-shaped form of the insertion tip. The term “corresponding sphere or corresponding ellipsoid” refers to a hypothetical sphere or ellipsoid that overlaps with the outer surface of the drop-shaped insertion tip, and accordingly the respective spherical dome, ellipsoidal dome or hemisphere. The term “distal” refers to end of the enema nozzle which is inserted first in the body opening e.g. rectum / colon. The “insertion tip” is placed at the distal section / end of the enema nozzle. The term “insertion body” refers to the section of the enema nozzle (below the drop-shaped insertion tip) that at least partly, is intended for being inserted in the body opening. The use of at least one elongated delivery opening(s) in the drop-shaped insertion tip ensures that a very smooth flow of enema to the colon / rectum is provided. Since the enema during administration will be distributed to the surrounding tissue via the elongated delivery opening(s) (preferably placed in the surface of the insertion tip), the pressure from the enema on the tissue at the delivery site will not only be reduced compared to a round opening at the top of the enema nozzle, but the enema will also be distributed over a large area in said body opening. In this way any discomfort that the user might experience with the conventional enema nozzles is reduced. This is especially relevant if the body tissue at the delivery site is inflamed, damaged and / or if the body tissue is stressed e.g. by repeated enema administrations. In order to provide a substantial uniform distribution in the body opening, e.g. colon / rectum it is preferred that the enema nozzle according to the invention comprises least two elongated delivery openings, preferably three, four, five or six elongated delivery openings. The inventors of the present invention have found that five elongated delivery openings both provide a relatively fast administration procedure and the desired smooth flow of enema to the colon / rectum. In a preferred embodiment the at least one elongated delivery opening has a substantially rectangular shape arranged in the surface of the drop-shaped insertion tip, preferably having rounded corners and / or being recessed in relation to the outer surface of the drop-shaped insertion tip. Such a form has the ability to delivering the enema in a fast and reliable manner, thereby reducing the administration procedure, while at the same time ensuring that the tissue at the delivery site is not subjected to excessive forces by a “jet” of enema. Even though the elongated delivery openings may have different dimensions, e.g. have different arc lengths or different widths, it is preferred that the delivery openings are substantially identical in form and dimension. In a simple and inexpensive embodiment each of the one or more elongated delivery openings extends along a section of the circumference of a great circle or great ellipse, passing through the top point of the drop-shaped insertion tip i.e. of the corresponding sphere or ellipsoid. Thus, when the arch lengths of the delivery openings are the same, the distal end of each elongated delivery opening will be placed in a third plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the enema nozzle, and the proximal end of each delivery opening will be placed in a forth plane that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the enema nozzle. It is further preferred that the middle of the elongated delivery openings is placed above the second plane passing though the center of the sphere. It is however preferred that each of the elongated opening(s) in the outer surface of the drop-shaped insertion tip is place entirely above the first plane, i.e. the delivery openings are placed in the upper half of the corresponding sphere or ellipsoid, i.e. above the first plane. It is further preferred that said delivery openings are evenly distributed in the outer surface of the drop-shaped insertion tip in order to deliver the enema uniformly in the body opening. The elongated delivery openings may in this respect be equidistantly arranged in the surface of the drop-shaped insertion tip around the longitudinal axis of the enema nozzle, thereby allowing the enema to be expelled into the body opening in all directions and accordingly provide a uniform distribution of the enema. In a preferred embodiment the arc length or great-circle distance of the elongated delivery opening is between three and six times the width of the elongated opening. Such a slot-like delivery opening has the advantage that a smooth flow is more readily achieved with high flow rates because of the narrow width. In one embodiment the elongated delivery openings have an arc length or great-circle distance (L) between 0.5 cm and 4 cm, preferably 0.8 cm and 3 cm, even more preferred around 1 cm. A person skilled in the art will based on the present application understands that the arc-length may change in dependence of the size of the drop-shaped insertion tip, e.g. that the arc-length is larger for a larger drop-shaped insertion tip and vice versa. It is preferred that the top of the drop-shaped insertion tip is closed, whereby the enema will be delivered to the body opening only via the sides of the drop-shaped insertion tip, i.e. the administration of enema will be less stressful on the tissue of the body opening. However, in an alternative embodiment one or more delivery opening(s) is / are arranged in the top of the drop-shaped insertion tip. Since the insertion tip is drop-shaped, and preferably contains no sharp edges, any injuries to the rectum and colon walls are minimized. It is in this respect known that repetitive tissue trauma, which are not allowed time to heal, can result in more serious conditions. This is of particular concern with pediatric patients, who commonly move about during the enema procedure, as it is important to avoid having the enema nozzle rupture a fragile rectum wall. The enema nozzle according to the present invention effectively eliminates these problems as the drop-shaped insertion tip expediently reduces this risk. Repetitive enema administrations can thereby be performed without inflicting trauma to surrounding tissue using the enema nozzle according to the invention. Thus, the shape of the drop-shaped insertion tip will provide a smoother and easier insertion, which effectively will alleviate the physical discomfort and pain that a patient may expire during insertion of a conventional enema nozzle. The inventors of the present invention has surprisingly found that an enema nozzle according to the invention will activate the user’s anal sphincters, and ensure that said muscles are contracted and maintained in a substantially contracted condition a long as said enema nozzle is placed in the user’s anus / rectum. Thus, the enema nozzle according to the invention take advantage of the function of the anal sphincters which effectively will keep fluids, e.g. bodily excretions, liquid and gas from escaping unexpectedly from the colon. The anal sphincters are a short tube of muscles surrounding the inferior portion of the anal canal and control the release of stool, thereby maintaining fecal continence. The anal sphincters comprise two muscles: the internal anal sphincter and the external anal sphincter. The external anal sphincter is largely under voluntary control by the somatic nervous system which allows it to stay in a contracted state, whereas the control of the internal sphincter is involuntary as it is innervated by the autonomic nervous system. The internal anal sphincter is tonically contracted most of the time to prevent leakage of fluid or gas, but is relaxed upon distention of the rectal ampulla, e.g. when feces are building up in said cavity. The inventors of the present invention have surprisingly found that when the enema nozzle according to the invention is inserted into a user’s anus, said enema nozzle does not affect the function of the anal sphincters and the user’s anal sphincter will accordingly remain contracted and hold itself in the substantially contracted condition thereby not only keeping the enema nozzle in place, but also ensure that the irrigation liquid and bodily excretions are maintained in the rectum and colon during the enema administration procedure. It has been found that the conventional enema nozzles are incapable of being retained in rectum / colon in a similar manner as the enema nozzle according to the invention. This is likely due to the relatively large cross-sectional diameter (more than 1 cm) said known enema nozzles have on the section(s) which is inserted into the rectum / colon, as such constructions / dimensions will stretch the anal sphincter muscles whereby the sphincters cannot contract sufficiently to maintain the enema nozzle in place and / or the fluids in the rectum. Thus, the conventional enema nozzles cannot be held in place (retained) simply by means of the function of the anal sphincters. As a result, the conventional enema nozzles either require the aid of more or more retention member(s) that can expand when placed in the rectum or that the user manually holds the enema nozzle place during the administration procedure. Furthermore, leakage of the enema fluid commonly occurs using these conventional enema nozzles, since the anal sphincters cannot provide a tight fit around the conventional enema nozzles, and this may led to insufficient colonic filling. Accordingly, imperfect procedural results may be obtained, or an insufficient dosage of enema (or medicine if this is administered) may be received by the patient. The enema nozzle according to the invention effectively prevents said problems as said enema nozzle simply uses the users own anal sphincters both to keep the enema nozzle safely in place and to prevent any leakage. The drop-shaped insertion tip may be directly connected to the elongated insertion body, or the insertion tip and elongated insertion body may be connected to each other via an intermediate element that provides a smooth transition between the two parts. In order to ensure that the enema nozzle is securely retained in the anus / rectum it is preferred that at least the section of the elongated insertion body that is intended for being placed in the body cavity, e.g. rectum, has a cross-sectional diameter that is smaller than the cross-sectional diameter of the drop- shaped insertion tip. If an intermediate element is used, said element will preferably also have a cross-sectional diameter that is smaller than the cross-sectional diameter of the drop- shaped insertion tip. Within the context of the present invention the term “cross- sectional diameter” means a diameter taken in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the enema nozzle. The use of a drop-shaped insertion tip having a larger cross- sectional diameter than the section of the elongated insertion body intended for being placed in the body opening, ensures that during insertion the squeezing action of the anal sphincters against the insertion body pushes (sucks) the enema nozzle into the rectum, thereby ensuring that the enema nozzle according to the invention will be placed in the correct position in the rectum / colon. The elongated insertion body may have substantially the same cross-sectional diameter in the entire length of said body, thereby providing an especially simple embodiment. Alternatively, said elongated insertion body can have the form of a truncated cone. The elongated insertion body may in this respect have the smallest cross-sectional diameter at the distal end of said elongated insertion body, e.g. in the transition area between the drop-shaped insertion tip and elongated insertion body, and continuously and / or gradually extend outwards into a funnel-shaped proximal part. Such a funnel-shaped proximal part may have a smaller or similar cross-sectional diameter as the drop-shaped insertion top, but in a preferred embodiment said funnel-shaped proximal part have a proximal section or edge that has a larger cross- sectional diameter than the drop-shaped insertion tip. In this way said funnel-shaped proximal part may serve as a stop arranged for preventing the enema nozzle from being pushed and / or sucked to far into the rectum. In embodiments not comprising a funnel-shaped proximal part, the enema nozzle may comprise another means arranged for restricting the insertion depth of the enema nozzle into the body openings, e.g. a flared stop plate or the like. Irrespectively of the shape of the elongated insertion body it is preferred that said insertion body has the smallest diameter in the transition area between the insertion tip and elongated insertion body. As discussed above, it is believed that this specific constructions, i.e. a larger drop-shaped insertion tip with a smaller insertion body, aids in obtaining the squeezing action of the anal sphincter against the insertion body which ensures that the enema nozzle according to the invention is “sucked” into the rectum, thereby ensuring that the enema nozzle according to the invention will be placed in the correct place in the rectum. In a preferred embodiment the drop-shaped insertion tip has a cross-sectional diameter which is about 1.2 to 7 times larger than the cross-sectional diameter of smallest cross-sectional diameter of the elongated insertion body, preferably at the distal end of said insertion body and / or in the transition area between the drop-shaped insertion tip and elongated insertion body. The cross-sectional diameter of the drop-shaped insertion tip is preferable between 2 and 5 times, and even more preferred about 2.6 times the cross-sectional diameter of the distal end of the insertion body. The inventors of the present invention has shown that such ratios are especially advantageously for ensuring that the enema nozzle according to the invention is correctly and sealing retained in the rectum during administration of an enema. Even though the diameter of the drop-shaped insertion tip may depend on whether the use is intended for a child or an adult, the inventors of the present invention has found that the cross-sectional diameter of the drop-shaped insertion tip preferably is between about 0.8 cm and about 2.5 cm. For an enema nozzle for an adult use, the cross-sectional diameter is preferably between about 1.0 and about 2.0 cm, and even more preferred between about 1.2 cm and about 1.5 cm, e.g. about 1.3 cm, and for a child between 0.8 cm and 1.2 cm, e.g. about 1.0 cm. However a larger and smaller cross-sectional diameter is contemplated within the scope of the present invention. In a preferred embodiment of the enema nozzle the cross- sectional diameter of the drop-shaped tip is about 13 mm and the smallest cross-sectional diameter of the insertion body is about 8 mm. The insertion body has a length of about 5 cm and has a smooth transition into a funnel-shaped proximal part having a cross-sectional diameter of about 25 mm measured at the proximal edge of the enema nozzle. Such dimensions will provide a convenient fit for most teenagers / adults. However, the enema nozzle according to the invention may also have other dimensions, such as a cross-sectional diameter of the drop- shaped tip of about 15 mm, the smallest cross-sectional diameter of the insertion body insertion body is about 10 mm, a length of the insertion body of about 8 cm and a funnel-shaped proximal part having a cross-sectional diameter at the bottom edge of about 30 mm. The conventional enema nozzles often have a cross-sectional diameter of more than 1.5 cm, at a section of said nozzle with the smallest cross-sectional diameter. In contrast, it is preferred in the embodiments according to the invention, that the cross-sectional diameter of the elongated insertion body (at least in the section that is inserted into the rectum / colon) is thinner than the conventional enema nozzles, and preferably that the cross-sectional diameter (in the thinnest section) of the elongated insertion body is not more than 10 mm. By using a thin elongated insertion body it is ensured that the rectal ampulla and / or anal sphincters (including both the internal and external sphincter) of the user is not stretched, and accordingly remains tonically contracted whereby the enema nozzle according to the invention is securely retained in the rectum and that any fluids (liquid and gas) are maintained in the rectum for the desired period of time, and at least in the period it takes to deliver the enema, e.g. 3 – 5 minutes. The insertion body may have any suitable length, depending on the intended delivery site of the enema in the rectum / colon, the longer the insertion body the further into the colon the enema may be delivered. It is however preferred that the insertion body have a length sufficient to place the drop- shaped insertion tip above the dentate line when placed in the rectum of a user, as this will prevent the drop-shaped insertion tip from irritating the sensitive nerve endings that may be positioned within the anal canal between the opening and the dentate line (also referred to as a pectinate line). Thus, is it preferred that the length of the insertion body, at least the section of said body intended for being placed inside the rectum, taken along the longitudinal axis of the elongated insertion body, is between 3 cm and 7 cm, preferably between 4 cm and 6 cm, and even more preferred about 5 cm as the inventors have found that such a length will place the drop- shaped insertion tip above the dentate line (for most users) and at the same time provide the unique self-retention of the enema nozzle by use of the anal sphincters. Thus, using the above dimensions, the elongated insertion body will be relatively long and thin, and when the sphincters are closed around the elongated insertion body, any leakage of bodily fluids is not only prevented but the sphincters will also maintain the insertion body in the correct position in the rectum. Once the enema is administered the enema nozzle can be safely and quickly removed by a simply pulling action. The enema will together with stool etc. in the rectum build up pressure within the rectal ampulla (distend / stretch said rectal cavity), whereby the urge to eliminate the stool occurs. Thus, the user can use the restroom when the urge occurs and since the user neither has to deflate a retention member and / or worry about injuries when an expandable retention member folds in upon itself, the administration procedure, including the insertion and removal of the enema nozzle, is safe and can be performed quickly. The flow channel of the enema nozzle may be in the form of one or more tube(s) placed inside the elongated insertion body and extending in the longitudinal direction of said insertion body, i.e. along the insertion body’s longitudinal axis. The at least one flow channel may alternatively or in addition be defined by the side walls of the elongated insertion body. The drop-shaped insertion tip may in one embodiment be formed as a hollow shell, and the at least one elongated delivery opening may be openings in said shell. During administration the hollow drop-shaped insertion tip will be filled with enema thereby providing a smooth enema flow. If the insertion tip is not hollow the flow channel may extend into the drop-shaped insertion tip e.g. via an additional tube or pipe. The flow channel may, in the drop-shaped insertion tip, be divided (branched) into one or more sub-channel(s) each of which is in flow communication with an elongated delivery opening. Said sub-channels may have a cross-section that have the same cross-sectional shape as the delivery opening, e.g. substantially rectangular, but the sub-channels may in principal have any shape as long as the enema can be administered to a user via the elongated delivery opening(s). The sub-channels may in one preferred embodiment be arranged as a straight channel or pipe that may be inclined upwards, i.e. the inclined sub-channels will force the enema to flow in an upwards direction from the flow channel to the delivery opening, i.e. towards the distal end of the enema nozzle. The angle α between the longitudinal axis of the inclined sub- channel and the longitudinal axis of the enema nozzle is preferably between 25 and 60 degrees, even more preferred around 45 degrees. The use of inclined sub-channels ensures that the enema flows in a steady, smooth manner, i.e. a substantially laminar flow is provided during administration. Furthermore, since the sub-channel is inclined the pressure drop in the intersection between the flow channel and sub- channels is reduced, thereby providing an optimized enema nozzle. The enema nozzle is preferably arranged for being connected to a liquid reservoir that comprises a liquid that can be for used as irrigation liquid and / or an enema. Said liquid reservoir may be any suitable reservoir, e.g. an enema delivery container in a large bed-side irrigation system for use in medical or hospital facilities and / or a small compact delivery container for home-administration of enema. Said delivery container may be arranged as a handheld pump, i.e. the enema is delivered when the user squeezes the delivery container. The enema nozzle may be a disposable nozzle or the nozzle can be individually cleaned and / or sterilised. In either case it is relevant that the enema nozzle can be easily connected to and removed from the liquid reservoir, preferably via a releasably snap-fit system. Thus, the enema nozzle may in a preferred embodiment comprise a coupling unit arranged for providing a flow path between the liquid reservoir and the enema nozzle, and / or a connection unit arranged for securely connecting the enema nozzle and liquid reservoir to each other. The coupling unit may be any conventional unit arranged for providing a flow path between the liquid reservoir and the flow channel of the enema nozzle. In one embodiment the coupling unit comprises a first coupling part attach to the enema nozzle, and a second, complementary, coupling part attached or connected to the liquid reservoir, and wherein a flow path is provided when said two coupling part are connected. The two coupling parts may in one embodiment be connected via an extension tube in order to provide a distance between the enema nozzle and the liquid reservoir. This may e.g. be relevant if the user manually have to activate at pump or have to squeeze a delivery container, in order to administer the liquid. In an especially simple embodiment the first coupling part is a first tube that may be part of the flow channel and the second coupling part is a second tube placed in connection with the liquid reservoir. Said first and second tubes are preferably adapted for providing a liquid tight fit when they are connected. This may e.g. be obtained by providing a first and second tube made of a flexible material, such that one tube can be placed in the other tube. Alternatively, or in addition, the first and second coupling parts may be connected by means of a first releasably snap-fit system, e.g. a system wherein the first coupling part comprises an annular bead arranged for engaging an annular flange of the second coupling part. The connection unit is preferably arranged for both ensuring that the enema nozzle is not released from the liquid reservoir during the enema administration procedure, and for providing a simply and intuitive assembly of said two parts (nozzle and reservoir). The connection unit may be any convenient unit arranged for providing a secure connection between the two parts, and may e.g. comprise a second releasably snap-fit system. In one preferred embodiment the connection unit comprises the funnel-shaped proximal part of the enema nozzle and a reverse complementary funnel-shaped connector part. The reverse complementary funnel-shaped connector part is called the “connector part” in the following. The connector part preferably comprises a rounded head portion and a rounded bottom portion, and may be directly connected to the liquid reservoir. It is however preferred that the connector part is connected to the liquid reservoir via a transition unit and an extension tube. The rounded head portion and a rounded bottom portion may be integrated, i.e. a single unit or two separate parts. The transition unit may comprise the second coupling part, a first connector tube, arranged for either being securely connected to the bottom part or to the inside of the extension tube, e.g. by heat welding, a snap fit, injection molding (e.g. by injection overmolding the extension tube on the connector tube) or gluing, and a fastening section arranged for securely combining the transition unit and the connector part to each other. Said fastening section may comprise one or more first connection element(s), e.g. one or more barb(s) or one or more flange(s) placed on or in combination with the transition unit, and one or more complementary second connection elements e.g. one or more annular grooves in the connector part. When the first and second connection elements engage each other, the transition unit is securely connected to the connector part. The first connection elements, e.g. the barbs, may be made of a flexible and / or elastic material, and the connector part may be made of a more rigid material, thereby providing a seal between the two parts. The connector part may converge away from the transition between the two funnel-shaped parts, thereby providing a holding section that may serve as a grasping section to facilitate insertion and withdrawal of the enema nozzle. The connector part may be connected to the extension tube via any conventional means, but in a first embodiment of the connector part said part extends into an annular joining unit, e.g. a tube that may be connected to the outside of the extension tube e.g. via glue and / or heat welding and / or injection overmolding. The annular joining unit is preferably integrated with the connector part, i.e. they are formed as a single unit. Alternatively, the connection unit e.g. the connector part is integrated with the extension tube. In a second and third embodiment of the connection unit according to the present invention, the bottom part of the connector part does not extend into an annular joining unit, thereby providing a shorter and more flexible enema device according to the invention. In order to be able to adjust the flexibility of the system, the height of the rounded bottom part may be adjusted in relation to the height of the rounded head part of the connector part. Within the context of the present invention the term “height” in relation to the bottom and head parts is defined as the longest distance between the top and bottom of the respective parts taken along the longitudinal axis of the applicator nozzle and / or extension tube. In one preferred embodiment the rounded bottom part and the rounded head part has substantially the same height. However, in a different embodiment the bottom part is higher than the head part, e.g. twice as high. The funnel-shaped proximal part and the connector part are preferably complementary to each other both in shape and size, at least at their respective meeting edges, i.e. in the transition between said two parts. This will both facilitate an easy and intuitive assembly of the parts and provide a smooth transition between said parts. In order to ensure that the two funnel-shaped parts of the connection unit easily can be assembled and dissembled, it is preferred that said funnel-shaped parts comprise a second releasably snap-fit system. Said snap-fit system may be any desired snap-fit system, e.g. a click-fit system or an annular or circumferential snap joint. In the latter embodiments the funnel-shaped proximal part comprise one or more ridge(s) arranged for locking into one or more groove(s) in the connector part. Such an annular snap joint allows for easy locking and release of the connection unit. It should be noted that the connector part can be used with any conventional applicator nozzle, the only requirement being that a flow path between the liquid reservoir and the flow channel of the enema nozzle is provided when the applicator nozzle is connected to the connector part. It is accordingly not relevant that the applicator nozzle comprises a drop-shaped insertion tip. It is however preferred that the applicator nozzle comprises a funnel-shaped proximal part that is configured for being connected to the connector part. The connector part may further comprise an anti-kinking member. Said anti-kinking member may in one embodiment be integrated with or connected to a proximal end of the transition unit. Said anti-kinking member may be any conventional anti-kinking member known in the art, but it is preferred to use the anti- kinking member known from the applicant’s patent application no. PA 2024 30698 (not yet published). Said application describes an anti-kinking member which extends into an extension tube, i.e. a tube that connects the applicator nozzle with a liquid reservoir. Said anti-kinking member has a free end that can move freely in response to movements of the tube, whereby the overall tube remains its flexibility, thereby ensuring that the tube can bend and flex without kinking. The tube can be compressed along the length of the tube that accommodates the anti-kinking member without through-flow accidentally stops. Thus the anti-kinking member is designed being bendable without the flow passage through it can be squeezed together. In preferred embodiments the anti-kinking member may be comprised of n coils, such as n spirals or n helices, wherein n ≥ 1. The coils are preferably flexible. The preferred helices are circular helices or cylindrical helices. The coils can be both left-handed and right-handed. Within the context of the present invention the term “helix” refers to a coil that can be formed by winding a strand around a uniform rod and then stretched, and the term “spiral” is a coil that can be formed by winding around a centre and gradually receding from or approaching the centre. When a spiral is used as the anti-kinking member the widest winding is closest to the enema nozzle. In some embodiments it may be preferred to have the drop-shaped insertion tip made of one material, and the elongated insertion body of a different material. For instance the elongated insertion body can be made of a relatively stiff material, thereby providing the longitudinal rigidity and strength required for easily advancing the nozzle in the body opening, and the drop-shaped insertion tip can be made of a softer, more elastic, and more flexible material such that the insertion tip can deform and / or flex slightly when it is inserted into the anal opening and / or rectum and / or colon. However in an especially simple embodiment according to the invention, the drop-shaped insertion tip and the elongated insertion body are made of the same material, preferably as an integrated unit. In order to provide the desired combination of rigidity / flexibility of the enema nozzle, said drop-shaped insertion tip and / or the insertion body, or at least a part of said insertion body, may be made of a polymer. Suitable materials in this respect are elastomeric polymers, preferably selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), polypropylene (PP), polyurethane (PU), polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), silicone, styrene ethylene butylene styrene (SEBS), thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPC), thermoplastic styrenic elastomer (TPS), and other similar polymers. The flexibility of the drop-shaped insertion tip and the insertion body respectively, can accordingly be altered, e.g. by changing the length of the polymer chains, creating branched chains from linear polymer chains, cross linking the polymer chains and / or adding plasticizers into the polymer. In some embodiments, at least the part of the enema nozzle intended for being inserted into the body cavity is made of a polymer having intrinsic hydrophilic properties e.g. the polymer composition described in WO2018 / 233793 A1 or in WO2022 / 233892. Said applications describes polymer compositions with intrinsic hydrophilic properties, which are suitable for manufacturing thermoformed, compression-molded objects presenting hydrophilic external surfaces. WO2018 / 233793 A1 describes a polymer composition comprising from 10 w / w% to 35 w / w% polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) with a Fikentscher' s K-value from K10 to K30; from 0 w / w% to 5 w / w% of additives, and from 60 w / w% to 90 w / w% polycaprolactam (PA6) or polycaprolactone (PCL) for balance. WO2022 / 233892 descries a polymer blend comprising a matrix polymer and a hydrophilic polymer composition comprising polyethylene- oxide; said matrix polymer selected from a TPE or a TPU matrix polymer presenting a flat-surface Shore A hardness from 40 to 75 according to ISO 48-4:2018; said polymer blend comprising, by total polymer blend weight, from 20 w / w% to 65 w / w% of said hydrophilic polymer composition with the balance matrix polymer; said hydrophilic polymer composition comprising, by weight of said hydrophilic polymer composition, from 5 w / w% to 30 w / w% of a PEG- plasticizer having a molecular weight from 200 D to 600 D, and polyethylene oxide having a molecular weight from 100,000 D to 750,000 D as balance. Instead of making the part of the enema nozzle intended for being inserted into the body cavity of a polymer with intrinsic hydrophilic properties, said part may be coated with a hydrophilic coating, for example either as a full coverage coating or an island coating consisting of hydrophilic dots separated by not-coated areas. Such hydrophilic coatings are known in the art and will not be disused in further details in this application. When a hydrophilic coating or polymer having intrinsic hydrophilic properties comes into contact with a liquid, e.g. water or saline, it will provide a friction-reducing exterior surface of the enema nozzle, thereby aiding in enabling a gentle insertion of the nozzle into e.g. the rectum. In one embodiment only the drop-shaped insertion tip is made of the intrinsic hydrophilic properties or is coated with a hydrophilic material, thereby ensuring that the elongated insertion body securely can be retained in the anal cavity. The enema nozzle according to the present invention may be manufactured using any conventional process. It is however preferred that the enema nozzle is manufactured in a single injection molding procedure by 1K injection molding, 2K injection molding or 3K injection molding. 2K or 3K injection molding consists of processing two or three different polymers (or polymer compositions) into an end product by means of one injection molding process. With the 2K and 3K technique a possible assembly step of e.g. the drop- shaped insertion tip and elongated insertion body is prevented. It is however preferred that the single injection molding procedure is arranged for using a polymer, or polymer composition, having intrinsic hydrophilic properties either alone or in combination with respectively one (or two) elastomeric polymers having different properties, e.g. thermoplastic elastomer(s) (TPEs). The number of polymer combined in the process depends on whether it is a 2K or 3K injection molding procedure. The polymer (or polymer composition) having intrinsic hydrophilic properties is preferably used to form / provide at least the drop-shaped insertion tip and preferably also the elongated insertion body. Other elastomeric polymer(s) may be used to provide the funnel-shaped proximal part of the insertion body and / or the first coupling part and / or the intermediate element etc. In a similar way the connection unit and / or connector part can be manufactured using an injection molding technology. The injection molding technology enables a simple and effective manner of integrating the properties of the polymers into the enema nozzle or connector part according to the invention. For instance, the 2K injection molding process can be used to combine two different elastomeric polymers with different properties, e.g. one first elastomeric polymer that will form the insertion body and one second elastomeric polymer that will form the drop-shaped insertion tip. The 2K or 3K injection molding process is preferably performed on one machine that is programmed to perform the injection of the polymers in a single cycle. The injection molding may either be a co-injection molding process, a sequential injection molding process or an over molding injection process. The inventors of the present invention has found that inserting the enema nozzle according to the present invention into a body opening e.g. the rectum, requires significantly less force than inserting a conventional enema nozzle as the enema nozzle according to the invention is “sucked” into the rectum, and the present enema nozzle is therefore especially advantageously for disabled patients and / or patients suffering form an impairment e.g. relating to aging, diagnose or trauma. Such patients normally have reduced hand strength and / or dexterity, and the force needed to insert a conventional enema nozzle may have the consequence that the user is no longer able to use the device him- or herself. This is remedied by the present enema nozzle, which therefore is excellently suited for use at home. It is noted that in situations where the users normal anal sphincter function is compromised the enema nozzle may of cause be used, but the self-sealing, self-retaining effect surprisingly obtained with the enema nozzle according to the invention will not be observed to the same degree. This will of course depend of the degree of damage to the anal sphincter(s), and / or if other conditions is present at the insertion site, e.g. obstructions such as fistulas or abscesses. It is preferred that the enema nozzle according to the invention does not comprise parts or elements that are arranged for changing form and / or size during use. In this way the enema nozzle does not comprise any expandable parts, e.g. inflatable balloons and / or other retention members which may either fold out or expand during use, e.g. after insertion. Furthermore, since the retention member does not have to be inflated / deflated the time-consuming and complicated process of inflating and deflating the balloon is removed, thereby providing a fast and reliable method of using the enema nozzle according to the invention and ensuring that said nozzle is securely held in place during the entire administration procedure. Furthermore, the user does not have to worry about adjusting the amount of fluid in the retention member in order to provide the required expansion for retaining the nozzle in the rectum, and the enema nozzle will appear small and harmless especially in comparison with the more complicated enema systems having tubes for inflating / deflating a balloon. The risk of an inflatable balloon rupturing and thereby damaging the colon wall, is also eliminated. The enema nozzle or enema system may comprise other features, e.g. one or more one-way valve(s) arranged for preventing back flow into the nozzle, etc. Said one-way valve(s) is arranged in the flow channel for the enema, e.g. in enema nozzle’s flow channel, the flow channel of the connector part, or in the extension tube. Even though the enema nozzle and enema system according to the invention is intended for administering an enema to the colon via the rectum, the enema nozzle and device may also be used for irrigation, cleansing and / or infusion into other body cavity, e.g. artificial stomas and fistulas. The enema nozzle according to the invention comprises at least one elongated delivery opening arranged in the surface of the drop-shaped insertion tip. However, the form of the delivery openings may in an alternative embodiment have a different form, e.g. be round, square, polygonal etc. The invention will be explained in greater detail below, describing only exemplary embodiments of the enema nozzle with reference to the drawing, in which Figs. 1 – 5 shows a preferred embodiment of an enema nozzle according to the present invention, Figs. 6 - 8 shows the enema nozzle of figs. 1 - 5 connected to an extension tube via a connection unit, Figs. 9 and 11 - 13 shows a second embodiment of a connector part of a connection unit according to the invention, Fig. 10 shows a third embodiment of a connector part of a connection unit according to the invention, Fig. 14 shows the function of a conventional enema nozzle inserted into the rectum / colon of a user, Fig. 15 shows the function of the enema nozzle according to the present invention when inserted into the rectum / colon of a user, and Fig. 16 shows different dimensions of the enema nozzle shown in figs. 1 – 5. The invention is described below with the assumption that the entire enema nozzle is made of the same material, e.g. an intrinsic hydrophilic polymer or a polypropylene. This assumption is not to be construed as limiting, as the drop- shaped insertion tip and elongated insertion body in the embodiments described below also could be made as separate units / parts, e.g. of different materials, and wherein the separate units / parts are connected to each other by conventional means, e.g. welding, heat, injection overmolding etc. Figs. 1 – 5 show a preferred embodiment of the enema nozzle 1 according to the invention. Said nozzle comprises an elongated insertion body 2 and a drop-shaped insertion tip 3 arranged at the distal end 4 of the elongated insertion body 2. In the embodiment shown the enema nozzle 1 comprises five elongated delivery openings 5 equidistantly distributed in the surface 6 of the drop-shaped insertion tip 3 around the longitudinal axis X of the enema nozzle 1. Each elongated delivery opening 5 has a substantially rectangular shape with rounded corners. All delivery openings 5 have the same arc length L and width B, i.e. the delivery openings 5 are substantially identical in form and dimension. The enema nozzle 1 comprises a flow channel 7, see e.g. fig. 2 and 3. Said flow channel 7 comprises a proximal short tube 8, the internal side walls 9 of the elongated insertion body 2 and extends into the drop-shaped insertion tip 3 via an additional tube 10. As is best seen in fig. 4, which is a cross-sectional view taken alone the lines IV-IV in fig. 1, the tube extension 10 branches into five sub-channels 11 in the drop-shaped insertion tip 3, each of which opens into one elongated delivery opening 5 in the surface of the insertion tip 3. The sub-channels have a substantially rectangular cross-section; see e.g. fig. 3 i.e. the same cross-sectional shape as the delivery openings 5. Each sub-channel 11 is arranged as an inclined, i.e. tilted, straight channel or pipe. The angle α between the axis Y of the inclined sub-channel and the longitudinal axis X of the enema nozzle, is around 45 degrees, see fig. 5. The inclined sub-channels 11 will force the enema to flow in an upwards direction towards the distal end 12 of the enema nozzle 1. The inclined sub-channels 11 also ensures that the enema flows in a steady, smooth manner, during administration, and that less force is required to administer said enema. The elongated insertion body 2 has the shape of a truncated cone 13 such that the side face 14 of the insertion body 2 extended outwards starting from the distal end of the insertion body 4 towards a funnel-shaped proximal part 15 at the opposite end 16 of said insertion body. As is best seen in fig. 5, which is an enlarged view of the drop-shaped insertion tip 3, the drop-shaped insertion tip 3 has a distal section 17 with a surface that corresponds to a prolate ellipsoidal dome 18. Said corresponding prolate ellipsoid 18 is shown in dotted line in fig. 5, and as is evident from said figure, the corresponding prolate ellipsoid 18 overlaps with the outer surface 6 of the drop-shaped insertion tip 3 in main part of said drop-shaped insertion tip. The main ellipsoidal dome 19 corresponds to the outer surface 6 of the drop-shaped insertion tip. The ellipsoidal dome 19 is cut below a first plane P going through the center of the corresponding ellipsoid 18, said first plan P being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X of the enema nozzle 1. The corresponding ellipsoid 18 is, in a second plane P perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the enema nozzle, divided into the main ellipsoidal dome 19, which overlaps with the outer surface of the drop-shaped insertion tip 3, and a minor dome 20 that does not overlap with said insertion tip. The height of the main ellipsoidal dome 19, i.e. the section of the drop-shaped insertion tip that overlaps with the corresponding prolate ellipsoid 18, is about four times larger than height the minor ellipsoidal dome, i.e. the dome 20 that that does not overlap with the outer surface 6 of the drop-shaped insertion tip. In this way the drop-shaped insertion tip 3 obtains the desired drop-shaped form. The proximal section 21 of the main ellipsoidal dome smoothly extends into the elongated insertion body 2. As is shown in fig. 3, the elongated insertion body has the smallest cross-sectional diameter the transition area A between the drop-shaped insertion tip and elongated insertion body. The section of the elongated insertion body 2 that is intended for being placed in the body cavity has a cross- sectional diameter D that is smaller than the cross-sectional diameter D of the drop-shaped insertion tip 3. As is best shown in fig. 5, each elongated delivery 5 opening extend along a great ellipse of the corresponding ellipsoid 18, i.e. an ellipse passing through the top point and the center of the corresponding ellipsoid. Each of the elongated openings 5, in the outer surface 6 of the drop-shaped insertion tip 3 and in the total length of said openings, is placed above the first plane P, i.e. the delivery openings 5 are placed in the upper section of the corresponding sphere or ellipsoid. The enema nozzle 1 is arranged for being connected to a liquid reservoir (not shown) by means of a coupling unit 22, see figs. 6 – 8. In the embodiment shown in the figures the coupling unit 22 comprise a first coupling part 23 and a second complementary coupling part 24. The first coupling part 23 is the proximal short tube 8 of the flow channel 7, see fig. 2. Said short tube 8 is surrounded by the funnel-shaped proximal part 15. The second coupling part 24, best shown in fig. 6, is connected to the liquid reservoir via an extension tube 25, that provide a distance between the enema nozzle 1 and the liquid reservoir. When the first and second coupling part 23,24 engages, a flow communication between the two parts is provided, see fig. 8. The coupling unit 22 is adapted for providing a liquid tight fit, which in the embodiment shown is obtained since one or both of the a first and second coupling parts 23,24 are made of a flexible material, such that one coupling part 23,24 can be placed inside the other coupling part 23,24 in a liquid tight manner, as shown in fig. 8. The first coupling part 23 comprises an annular bead 46 arranged for engaging an annular flange 47 of the second coupling part 24, thereby providing a first snap-fit system 48 which provide a secure connection between the two parts. In order to provide a convenient assembling proceedings of the enema nozzle 1 and the liquid reservoir e.g. via the extension tube 25, said two parts may be further connected to each other via a connection unit 26. Said connection unit 26 may be any convenient unit arranged for providing a secure connection between the two parts, but in the embodiment shown in fig. 8, the connection unit 26 comprises the funnel-shaped proximal part 15 of the enema nozzle and a first embodiment of the reverse complementary funnel-shaped connector part 27a. Said connector part 27a comprises a rounded head part 44a and a rounded bottom part 45a. The connector part 27a may be directly connected to the liquid reservoir (not shown) but it is preferred that the connector part 27a is connected to (or integrated with) the extension tube 25 via a transition unit 28a, and an annular joining unit 33 (tube) that is integrated with the connector part 27a. Said annular joining unit 33 (tube) surrounds the outside of the extension tube 25. The transition unit 28a comprises the second coupling part 22, a fastening tube 29, arranged for extending into and being securely fastening to the extension tube 25 (or the liquid reservoir), and a fastening section 30a arranged for securely combining the transition unit 28a and the funnel-shaped connector part 27a. Said fastening section 30a comprises three annular barbs (circular flanges) 31 connected to or integrated with the transition unit 28a, and three complementary first annular grooves 32 in the connector part 27a. The circular flanges 31 has different diameters in order to fit into the rounded shape of the connector part 27a, wherein the upper flange 31’ has the largest diameter and being placed in a section between the head part 44a and the bottom part 45a. The lower flange 31’’’ has the smallest diameter and the middle flange 31’’ has a diameter in-between the upper and lower flange. When the barbs 31 and grooves 32 engage each other, the transition unit 28a is securely connected to the connector part 27a. As shown in fig. 7, the funnel-shaped proximal part 15 and connector part 27a are complementary to each other in shape and size in the transition 34 between said two parts. This will both ensure that the two parts 15,27a easily can fit together, but also that a smooth transition between said parts is obtained, as shown in figs. 7 and 8. As is shown in figs. 6 – 8 the outer surface of the rounded bottom part 45a of the connector part 27a converges away from the transition 34 between the funnel-shaped proximal part 15 and the connector part 27a into the annular joining unit 33, thereby providing a holding and / or grasping section 35 when the two parts 15,27a are connected. Said holding and / or grasping section 35 can be used to facilitate insertion and withdrawal of the enema nozzle 1 in the body opening, e.g. rectum and / or colon. The funnel-shaped proximal part 15 and the connector part 27a may be assembled and / or dissembled by means of the first snap- fit system, thereby providing a secure connection between the two parts. However, the funnel-shaped proximal part 15 and the connector part 27a may alternatively or in addition be assembled and / or dissembled using a second releasably snap-fit system 36. In the embodiment shown the second snap-fit system 36 comprise a number of small ridges 37, placed in a lower section of the funnel-shaped proximal part 15 at the inner surface 38 of said part. Said ridges 37 are arranged for engaging a second annular groove 39 in an outer surface 40 of the connector part 27a. Said second annular grove 39 is arranged in the transition between the head part 44a and bottom part 45a of the connector part 27a. As is evident from fig. 8 an edge 63 of the upper flange 31’ is free in the assembled state thereby providing a gap 49 between said flange 31’ and the bottom part 45a that will define the second annular groove 39. Such snap-fit system allows for easy locking and release of the connection unit 26. Figs. 9 and 10 shows respectively a second and a third embodiment of a connector part 27b;27c of the connection unit 26 according to the present invention. Said embodiments can be connected to the funnel-shaped proximal part 15 of the applicator nozzle 1 in the same way as described above for the first embodiment of the connector part 27a. The connector part 27b;27c corresponds generally the connector part 27a shown in figs. 6 – 8, and for like parts the same reference numbers are used. As is evident from the figures the main difference between the exterior of the bottom part 45a in the first embodiment of the connector part 27a shown in figs. 6 – 8 and the second embodiment 45b shown in fig. 9 and the third embodiment 45c shown fig. 10, is that the rounded bottom part 45a of the first embodiment extend into an annular joining unit 33, whereas the second and third embodiments 27b;27c does not comprise such an annular joining unit 33. The second and third embodiment of the connector part 27b;27c is substantially identical, the primary difference is that the rounded bottom part 45c in the third embodiment is higher than the rounded bottom part 45b of the second embodiment as shown in fig. 9 and 10. The height h is the longest distance between the top and bottom of the respective part taken along the longitudinal axis of the applicator nozzle 1 and / or extension tube 25. As shown in fig. 9, the head part 44b and the bottom part 45b of the second embodiment of the connector part 27b have substantially the same height h h = b . In contrast the bottom part 45c of the third embodiment 27c is about twice as high as the head part 44c, i.e. h = 2 x b , see fig. 10. Besides the difference in the height of the bottom part 45b;45c in the second and third embodiments, the connector part 27b;27c are substantially identical. Thus, even though the following only is described in relation to the second embodiment, the description is also valid for the third embodiment. Figs. 11 and 12 shows exploded views of the second embodiment of the connector part 27b, and fig. 13 is a cross-section taken along the lines XIII-XIII in fig. 9. In figs. 11 - 13 the connector part 27b is shown as being combined with an anti-kinking member 64, but said connector part can equally well be used without said anti-kinking member. In said embodiment 27b the anti-kinking member 64 has a proximal free end 65 and a distal end 66 which in the present embodiment is integrated with a transition unit 28b. Said transition unit 28b comprises the second coupling part 24, a fastening tube 29b, and a fastening section 30b. The fastening section 30b comprises a flange part 50 and a disc part 51. The flange part 50 comprises two shoulders guide parts 52 configured for engaging and / or mating with complementary locking holes 53 arranged in the lower surface 54 of the head part 44b of the connector part 27b. The disc part 51 is configured for combining the bottom part 45b and the head part 44b of the connector part 27b together. Said disc part 51 comprises a circular flange 55, a central opening 56 and first and second circular elevation 57,58 arranged on opposite sides of the disc part 51. In the embodiment shown the first circular elevation 57 consist of two annular elevations 59’,59’’. The circular flange 55 is configured for mating into a corresponding annular interior channel 60 in the bottom part 45b of the connector part 27b, thereby securing said bottom part 45b to the disc part 51. The first and second circular elevation 57,58 is configured for engaging and mating with corresponding circular recesses 62 in the bottom part 45b and the first flange 50 of the transition part 28b. The central opening 56 of the disc part 51 corresponds in size to the outer diameter of the fastening tube 29b. At the proximal end of the fastening tube 29b is placed a circumferential barb 61 that is configured for gripping the disc part 51 and locking said parts together. Thus, the fastening section 30b i.e. the flange part 50 and a disc part 51 both ensures an accurate alignment of the different components e.g. the transition unit 28b, the head part 44b, and bottom part 45b and accordingly that all components of the connector part 27b are securely locked together, that is, they can not be accidently disconnected when a user operates the enema system. As is evident from figs. 9 and 10, the edge 63 of the flange part 50 is free in the assembled state thereby providing a gap 49 between the flange part 50 and the bottom part 45b that will define the second annular groove 39 of the snap fit system for easy locking and release of the connection unit 26. This is best shown in fig. 13. As is evident from the enema nozzle 1 according to the invention is relatively long and thin enabling said enema nozzle 1 to be retained in the rectum of a user simply by using the normal function of the user’s anal sphincters. The difference between the use of a conventional enema nozzle having a large cross-sectional diameter, and the enema nozzle 1 according to the invention is illustrated in figs. 9 and 10. As illustrated by arrows in fig. 14 a conventional enema nozzle 41 will stretch the anal sphincter muscles 42 to such a degree that the anal sphincters cannot contract sufficiently to maintain the enema nozzle in place and / or the fluids in the rectum. In contrast, the unique combination of a thin elongated insertion body 2 and a larger drop-shaped insertion tip 3, as for the enema nozzle 1 according to the invention, ensures that the anal sphincters 42 (both internal 43 and external 42), which are closed in the natural, resting state, naturally draws the drop-shaped insertion tip 3 in, and then close behind it. This is illustrated by the arrows in fig. 15. The user’s anal sphincters 42 will accordingly remain contracted and hold themselves in the substantially contracted condition thereby not only keeping the enema nozzle 1 in place, but also ensure that the irrigation liquid and bodily excretions are maintained in the rectum / colon during the enema administration procedure. The inventors of the present invention have also found that the insertion of the enema nozzle 1 into the anus / rectum of the patient is even easer than with the known enema nozzles in the art. The unique shape of a drop-shaped insertion tip 3 and a elongated truncated insertion body 2 ensures that during insertion the squeezing action of the anal sphincter 42 against the insertion body 2 pushes (sucks) the enema nozzle 1 into the rectum 45, thereby ensuring that the enema nozzle according to the invention will be placed in the correct position in the rectum / colon 45. The person skilled in the art will understand that the dimensions of the embodiments shown in the figures may vary. Fig. 16 shows three different sizes of the enema nozzle 1 according to the invention, all three sizes of said nozzle are constructed as illustrated in fig. 1 - 8. The enema nozzles disclosed herein may be used in small hand held enema devices, e.g. connected to a hand held delivery pump, or used for larger irrigations systems wherein the enema nozzle is connected to the enema reservoir via a relatively long delivery tube, and wherein the irrigation system e.g. comprises pumping means, control means, collection means for the stool, etc. The enema nozzle may be a disposable nozzle or the nozzle can be individually cleaned and / or sterilised. Modifications and combinations of the above principles and designs are foreseen within the scope of the present invention.
