Abstract
Description
[0001] APPARATUS FOR GLUING AND MIXING PARTICLES WITH AN ADHESIVE
[0002] AND A METHOD FOR EASY ASSEMBLY AND MAINTENANCE
[0003] The invention refers to an apparatus for gluing and mixing particles with an adhesive according to claim 1 .
[0004] The invention refers to an method for easy assembly and maintenance of such an apparatus according to claim 14.
[0005] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0006] In the production of boards out of shredded material, there are used predominately flow able or free-flowing particles of differing sizes, mostly containing lignocellulose and / or cellulose, such as fibers, chips and the like. After usually having being provided with binder agents, these particles are discharged out of a dosing or metering hopper and delivered to a spreading head as a spreading apparatus. At least one such apparatus is used as a forming station in combination with an endlessly rotating belt. Through the spreading head, the particles, chips or fibers are spread to form a fleece or mat or layers of these onto a continuously running forming belt, and are then formed to a finished panel in a subsequent pressing station, mostly by heat and pressure.
[0007] As for the definition of boards there are mostly particleboards, fiberboards and boards made out of material with greater dimensions than fibers and particles, whereas the greater material is able to be oriented by the scattering apparatus to obtain layers of similar oriented material, mostly length or cross to the working direction, usually referred to as oriented stranded boards (OSB). Fiberboards mostly are composed out of fibers, usually prepared by refiners and preferably glued in a so called blow-line. As a matter of fact next to the costs of the raw materials comprising cellulose or lignocellulose the used adhesive or glue as binder has to be taken into account in the production process to obtain good opportunities for selling the manufactured products in the market or to the finishing industry. Therefore it is basically known that the injection of adhesive into a stream of fibers or particles has a significant influence on the costs but in almost the same important manner the quality of the distribution of the adhesive onto the particles is essential to obtain products with a high quality. As of late a lot of inventions have been made public about solutions for better achievements in the gluing sector.
[0008] Some of these might be DE 16 32 450 B2, EP 1 670623 B1 , EP 2 213431 B1 , EP 2 704 884 B1 , EP 2 718 069 B1 , EP 2 939 807 B1 , US 3 198 655 A, US 4 323 314 A, US 6 197 236 B1 , US 9 114 577 B2 or WO 2003 106 127 A1.
[0009] These publications are the state of the art from which the invention would like to start. The main disadvantages are coagulations of adhesive and / or glued particles in the process which disturb the following apparatuses in such plants and usually cause troubles in the production process. On top the producers are used to short maintenance intervals due to caking of the glued particles and / or the adhesive on the conveyors or following up apparatuses like bunkers, spreading units and so on. Additionally the lost adhesive due to such occurrences results in loss of expensive adhesive or glue and the usual approach is to send more glue as efficiently needed into the system.
[0010] Finally changes in the production e. g. different boards, different material qualities or different material quantities cause different temperature gradients in the gluing systems which may cause coagulations of the adhesive in the gluing system itself. Such coagulations impede the quality of the production or the
[0011] Dipl. -Ing. (FH) Helmut Hartdegen, European Patent Attorney, Angerfeldstr. 12a, D-82205 Gilching, SF1009 - Seite 2 / 18 produced boards and usually lead to earlier maintenance schedules and in worst cases to a failure of the gluing apparatus.
[0012] OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0013] The problems mentioned above should be addressed by the invention by creating an apparatus for gluing particles and a method to assembly such an apparatus.
[0014] The object of the invention is therefore to create an apparatus with which adhesive can be applied to particles or similar particles at high quality and great efficiency. Caking of adhesive and / or glued particles should be reduced or avoided in the gluing system especially during the production, idle times or emergency stops.
[0015] Last but not least it is an object of the invention to prepare a gluing system easy to install, to maintenance and to replace wear parts as easy as possible.

[0033] Dipl.-lng. (FH) Helmut Hartdegen, European Patent Attorney, Angerfeldstr. 12a, D-82205 Gilching, SF1009 - Seite 5 / 18 The problem for an easier assembly, disassembly and / or maintenance can be solved by the main claim 14.
[0034] As such the method comprises the following steps to assemble or disassemble a gluing system for an apparatus for gluing and mixing particles with at least a part of an adhesive, especially in the course of producing shaped bodies, wherein the particles are pneumatically suspended and transported as a particle stream in a preferably circular pipe wherein he gluing system should be arranged in, along or as part of the pipe, wherein said gluing system comprises a tube connected with the pipe to transport the particle stream within its inner diameter, wherein a body is arranged with a holding structure within the tube, said body features a front part at least partially with a streamlined contour towards the oncoming particle stream and features at least one nozzle for the delivery of adhesive onto the particles of the particle stream, wherein within the body and / or within the holding structure channels are arranged to deliver the adhesive from outside of the tube to said nozzle:
[0035] The method is performed in view of the assembly by mounting the holding structure onto at least one part of the segmented body, whereas the body is completed before, during or after the installation of the holding structure to said part of the segmented body.

[0037] Preferably in view of the assembly and after combining the holding structure with at least one part of the segmented body said combination is mounted in the
[0038] Dipl. -Ing. (FH) Helmut Hartdegen, European Patent Attorney, Angerfeldstr. 12a, D-82205 Gilching, SF1009 - Seite 6 / 18 tube and then at least one further part of the body is mounted onto the combination to finish the body. The disassembly is used vice versa.
[0039] The following features are separately or combined useful to enhance the invention if it deems necessary:
[0040] - the gluing system might comprise at least two different sections wherein the permeable area or permeable diameter for the particle stream is changing differently due to an arrangement of an in- or decreasing inner diameter of the tube and / or due to the in- or decreasing of the diameter of the body;
[0041] - there might be at least three different sections I, II, III with the following arrangement: the inner diameter of the pipe is decreasing or increasing in the first section I, the inner diameter is decreasing in the second section II and / or the inner diameter of the pipe is increasing in the third section III.
[0042] - the body can be arranged at least partially in the first section I or that the body is arranged throughout the first section and is preferably extending into the pipe;

[0046] - the body is usually shaped in an axially symmetrical manner, especially to the central axis of the tube;
[0047] - if the tube is rectangular a body arranged symmetrically to one of the symmetric planes can split the particle stream into two or four streams along the
[0048] Dipl. -Ing. (FH) Helmut Hartdegen, European Patent Attorney, Angerfeldstr. 12a, D-82205 Gilching, SF1009 - Seite 7 / 18 walls, especially in such a case a nozzle bar with several nozzles would be useful.
[0049] In a further aspect the holding structure might comprises at least one radially arranged carrier connecting the body with the inner surface of the tube and that at least on supply line in the carrier is connecting fixtures respectively fittings on the body, especially the nozzle with the surroundings of the tube. This might be advantageous to provide safety for the service pipe of the nozzle, as this service pipe might be more secure to the oncoming particle stream, especially in a highly abrasive surrounding, like it happens in a blow line.
[0050] Preferably there are at least two carriers arranged circumferential to the body and that the distance between the carriers are preferably equal to each other.
[0051] The gluing system or the pipe with the gluing system might be part of or connected with a refiner, preferably with a disc refiner, for producing a particle stream with steam. Usually a refiner is used in a blow-line system and provides the excess pressure of several bars.
[0052] Especially but necessarily due to a refiner it might be preferred to connect the gluing system or the pipe with a dryer for the exiting and glued particles.
[0053] The gluing system is especially designed for blow-lines with higher pressure than the surroundings and a particle stream moving in a steam containing atmosphere but can also be used in a normal environment or in pneumatic supported conveyors e.g. ducts or pipes.
[0054] The particle stream can also be regarded as a falling particle stream in ducts, only with gravity, nevertheless preferably the particles are moved or accelerated by different means like pneumatic conveyors or mechanical means like rotating
[0055] Dipl. -Ing. (FH) Helmut Hartdegen, European Patent Attorney, Angerfeldstr. 12a, D-82205 Gilching, SF1009 - Seite 8 / 18 wheels.
[0056] It is possible to repair or maintenance specific parts of the gluing system hence the segments of the body in different maintenance intervals.
[0057] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0058] In the following, the invention will be described in more detail by the aid of some preferred embodiments with reference to the attached drawings, wherein:
[0059] Fig. 1 presents a sectional view of a first embodiment of the gluing system whereas the central axis of the transporting tube is in the plane of the drawing,
[0060] Fig. 2 presents a sectional view of another embodiment of the gluing system whereas the central axis of the transporting tube is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing and
[0061] Fig. 3 presents a sectional view of another embodiment of the gluing system with a segmented body.
[0062] Fig. 1 presents a sectional view lengthwise to the production direction of an apparatus in which the gluing system 1 is used as part of a pneumatic conveyor or a blow-line pictured by a pipe 13 at the beginning and first opening of the gluing system 1. An optional pipe after the gluing system 1 is not shown. The particles are moved or transported in the pipe 13 as particle stream 12 parallel to the central axis 17 of the pipe 13. The central axis 17 can be arranged vertically, horizontally or angular to the ground. A vertical use is common for transporting the particles due to the gravitation. Sometimes as known in the state of the art the particles are accelerated by different means like spike wheels and / or pneumatic means. Most common is the use of a refiner with an connected blow-line to transport the particles into a dryer or other means.
[0063] Dipl. -Ing. (FH) Helmut Hartdegen, European Patent Attorney, Angerfeldstr. 12a, D-82205 Gilching, SF1009 - Seite 9 / 18 According to Fig. 1 several flanges 16 can be arranged to connect the gluing system 1 where necessary. Flanges (not shown) can also be used to prepare separable parts or intersections along the gluing system 1 or its tube 5 respectively. As already known such a tube 5 of a gluing system 1 can be separated theoretically and / or technically into different sections I, II, III and so on. A body 4 is mounted with a holding structure in the tube 5. The body is usually shaped in an axially symmetrical manner, especially to the central axis 17 of the tube 5. If the tube 5 is rectangular a body 4 splitting the particle stream 12 can be used as well.
[0064] Preferably a holding structure to keep the body 4 in place can consist out of one, two, three or more wings 2, radially arranged to the central axis 17 of the tube 5 and connecting the outer side of the body 4 with the inner side of the tube 5. The body 4 has a front part 8 and an end part 9 according to the flowing direction of the particle stream 12.
[0065] At the end 9 of the body 4 a nozzle 3 is arranged to deliver the adhesive 11 in the middle of the particle stream 12 which has been divided by the body 4.
[0066] Depending on the arrangement of the gluing system 1 the tube 5 can be arranged with different inner diameters along the different sections. Not shown is the possibility that the inner diameter is opening up in section I. As shown in the second section the inner diameters is shrinking whereas in this area the adhesive 11 is sprayed onto the particles by the nozzle 3. Shortly after a third section III is shown in which the inner diameter is opening up, usually until the same diameter of a following pipe. It can be that the gluing system 1 directly delivers the particle stream into a dryer (not shown) or other means for further processing of the glued particles.
[0067] The holding structure of the body 4 consists at least out of one wing 2. In such a wing 2 at least one opening, like a drill hole, can be arranged to deliver
[0068] Dipl.-lng. (FH) Helmut Hartdegen, European Patent Attorney, Angerfeldstr. 12a, D-82205 Gilching, SF1009 - Seite 70 / 18 adhesive from outside of the tube 5 to the body 4 and / or the nozzle 3 through the wing 2 via a channel 21 . The body 4 also features openings or drill holes to deliver the adhesive from the wing 2 to the nozzle 3. Preferably the channel 21 is connected via the opening in the tube 5 with an adhesive tank 10 or other delivery or storage means for adhesive 11 . As shown a pump is used to inject the adhesive 11 into the channel 21 and to the nozzle 3 respectively. A sensor 19 can be used to control certain parameters of the adhesive delivery with a control unit (not shown).
[0069] There are different mechanical means possible to connect the body 4 with the wing 2 and to hold the wing 2 respectively the body 4 into place in the tube 5. In this embodiment screwing or bolting is used. Positive or negative locking means might be suitable as well. Two mechanical means (screws) are connecting the wing 2 with the body 4 and another mechanical element (screw) is used to connect the wing 2 with the tube 5 through an opening in the tube 5.
[0070] Preferably a circulation 14 for the coolant 20 is arranged in the gluing system 1 . The coolant 20 enters the holding structure or the wings 2 respectively by an inlet 6 similar to the entry of the adhesive 11 . The inlet 6 is connected with an channel 22 which leads the coolant 20 through the body 4, especially along the channel 21 for the adhesive 11 . Preferably the coolant is delivered to the end part 9 of the body and returns separately to an outlet 7 in the holding structure. Preferably there is more than one wing 2 as holding structure and the inlet 6 and the outlet 7 can be arranged on the same wing 2 or in different wings 2. A sensor 18 can be arranged to observe one or several parameters of the coolant 20, the adhesive 11 , the channels 21 / 22 and / or the body 4.
[0071] The circulation 14 can feature a pump and one or several sensors 24, especially for the feed line, the pump and / or the outlet of the circulation 14.
[0072] Dipl. -Ing. (FH) Helmut Hartdegen, European Patent Attorney, Angerfeldstr. 12a, D-82205 Gilching, SF1009 - Seite 77 / 18 Preferably the circulation 14 is connected a tank 15 or other delivery or storage means for the coolant 15.
[0073] In the circulation heating exchange means can be arranged to control the temperature of the coolant 20.
[0074] Fig. 2 presents the holding structure with three different wings 2 arranged symmetrically around the body 4 and the circulation 14 in more detail and another embodiment. In one of the preferred embodiments every wing 2 features on channel 21 or 22, whereas the channel 21 delivers the adhesive 11 to the nozzle 3 coaxially or overlapping to the central axis 17. The inlet 6 for the coolant 20 is connected with the channel 20, which delivers the coolant of center to the body 4. A dashed connection is showing the connection of the right channel to the left channel and the delivery of the coolant 20 to the outlet 7.
[0075] Fig. 3 shows another embodiment with a segmented body 4. The body 4 is segmented into a main part 23, a front part 8 and an end part 9 with the nozzle 3. The nozzle can be part of the body but it is preferred to install an specially arranged nozzle to the body 4 depending on the circumstance or the use of the gluing system 1009.
