[0018] Section headings are used in the present document only to improve readability and do not limit scope of the disclosed embodiments and techniques in each section to only that section. Furthermore, some embodiments are described with reference to Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Fifth  Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) or Sixth Generation (6G) standard for ease of understanding and the described technology may be implemented in different wireless system that implement protocols other than the NR or 6G protocol.

[0019] 1. Initial discussion

[0020] With the continuous development of wireless communications, the demand for arrays with large-scale unit antennas or elements is increasing, which leads to the continuous reduction of the boundary between the near field and the far field, and the near-field effect is becoming more prominent. The channel characteristics change significantly in the near-field scenario. The channels at different distances with the same angle are obviously different. Channel modeling has developed from angle domain modeling to multi-domain modeling. The study of near-field channels cannot be satisfied with the assumption that the distance is extremely large or that the distance parameter has almost no effect on the channel. The modeling of points at different spatial positions needs to take the distance factor as an important design factor.

[0021] Since the traditional DFT (discrete Fourier transform) codebook only focuses on the parameters of a single angle dimension, the traditional DFT codebook cannot meet the requirements for service quality, and it is imperative to explore new codebook matrix design solutions. To solve this problem, we design a high-rank codebook in this patent to support multi-layer data transmission.

[0022] In order to further enhance the gains of improved communication quality brought by multi-input, multi-output, MIMO, technology, massive antenna technology is adopted in the fifth generation of mobile communication technology (5G) . Among them, the antenna of the base station can include a large number of antenna units and transceiver units, for example, the number of antenna units and transceiver units can be 128, 256 or 512, and the terminal can also be configured with an antenna array composed of a large number of antenna units. In the sixth generation of mobile communication technology (6G) , the concept of ultra-large-scale MIMO is proposed, and the number of base station antennas is further increased. In addition, as a possible new technology of 6G, the number of units of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) may reach thousands or even tens of thousands, and it also faces the problem of changes in channel characteristics and transmission design caused by the extremely large number of units.

[0023] When communicating, signals can be sent or received through multiple antennas of the base station or a RIS and the terminal to reduce signal attenuation and improve communication quality. Generally speaking, in the 5G communication system, a transmission scheme that supports codebooks or a transmission scheme that supports non-codebooks can be adopted. Among them, for the codebook-based transmission scheme, it means that multiple codebooks are pre-configured in the base station and the terminal, each codebook contains multiple precoding matrices, and then the precoding matrix contained in the selected codebook is determined, and the final determined precoding matrix is used for data transmission. The base station determines the codebook parameters used by the terminal based on the detection reference signal resources reported by the terminal, and notifies the terminal of the codebook parameters, and the terminal determines the corresponding codebook based on the notification of the base station (and vice versa) . However, the current codebook is designed based on the far-field channel, and the impact of the increase in the number of arrays on the channel model is not considered. Therefore, the current DFT codebook is not sufficient to support near-field communication needs.

[0024] In order to meet the near-field communication environment that is very likely to exist in B5G / 6G, the design of the near-field codebook becomes important. The current communication protocol design uses DFT codebooks, which will lead to poor near-field transmission performance, affect the channel estimation quality and system capacity, and cannot meet communication needs. The industry is in the initial stage of near-field codebook design and lacks a complete near-field codebook model design solution.

[0025] Under near-field conditions, the multiplexing capability is improved, and multi-layer transmission can be achieved even through ling-of-sight (LOS) channels only. The design of the near-field codebook model not only needs to consider the changes in the propagation model due to the characteristics of spherical waves, but also needs to design the codebook for the high-rank characteristics of the near field to better support multi-layer data transmission, laying a solid foundation for subsequent near-field communication research and interoperability protocol work.

[0026] The techniques disclosed in the present document can be used to implement embodiments that addressed the above-discussed technical issues, among others.

[0027] 2. Example embodiment 1

[0028] According to some embodiments, a method for feedback of channel parameters may be implemented as follows.

[0029] The receiving end measures the channel estimation pilot and obtains the channel parameters. The receiving end determines a codebook set for channel quantization feedback. The receiving end selects an optimal codeword from the codebook set to quantize and characterize the channel parameter. The receiving end feeds back the parameter of the optimal codeword.

[0030] The codewords in the codebook set include multiple codeword blocks. At least one codeword block G conforms to the following model:

[0031] Here, f represents a function.  represents a vector of Nt*1 dimension or a matrix of Nt*Nt dimension, Dk represents a column vector of Nt*1 dimension or a matrix of Nt*r dimension or a matrix of Nt*Nt dimension, Nt is an integer, K is an integer greater than or equal to 1, and r is an integer greater than or equal to 1.

[0032] The following features may be used by various embodiments.

[0033] In some embodiments, the elements of are related to the quadratic power of the index.

[0034] In some embodiments, if is a vector, the phase of its nth element is related to (a*n+b) ^2, where a is a non-zero real number and b is a real number and ^ represents “raised to power” operation. In some embodiments, if is a matrix, the phase of the elements in the n-th row or column is related to (a*n+b) ^2, where a is a non-zero real number and b is a real number.

[0035] In some embodiments, if is a vector, the phase of its n-th element is related to (a* (n-Nt) +b) ^2, where a is a non-zero real number and b is a real number. If is a matrix, the phase of the elements in the n-th row or column is related to (a* (n-Nt) +b) ^2, where a is a non-zero real number and b is a real number.

[0036] Here, Nt represents the number of antennas or antenna ports configured in the base station.

[0037] The method may further include configuring parameters in the codeword model.

[0038] The method may further include constructing a codeword generation codebook set according to the parameters and the codeword model.

[0039] Embodiment 2 (type I, ULA)

[0040] In this embodiment, the base station configures a uniform linear array (ULA) including Nt antenna ports and sends a set of Nt ports channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) pilots for channel measurement. The terminal configured with Nr antenna ports obtains the pilot configuration information sent by the base station, performs detection at the corresponding resource position, and obtains the channel matrix information of dimension Nr×Nt. In some embodiments, the number of antennas in the ULA may be equal to the number of antenna ports. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the number of antennas may be different from the number of antenna ports.

[0041] The first matrix / vector constructs a codeword using a pre-agreed codeword generation model, and the input parameter is {u1, k, u2, k, n, n2} . {u1, k, u2, k} is indicated by the precoding matrix indicator (PMI) . The element generating the first matrix / vector has the following form:

[0042] One possible way to quantify this is

[0043] The index combination (l, m) and k are correlated. The first matrix / vector generated can be expressed as

[0044] or

[0045] The second matrix / vector Dk may be constructed according to the 38.214 protocol, corresponding to 5.2.2.2 Precoding matrix indicator (PMI) . The aforementioned Nt corresponds to the following N1. An example of Type I Single-Panel Codebook is given below.

[0046] According to the definition in the agreement, there are θp=ejπp / 4

[0047] - The values of N1 and N2 are configured with the higher layer parameter n1-n2, respectively. The supported configurations of (N1, N2) for a given number of CSI-RS ports and the corresponding values of (O1, O2) are given in Table 5.2.2.2.1-2. The number of CSI-RS ports, PCSI-RS, is 2N1N2.

[0048] For codebookMode =2, layer=2, there is

[0049] At this point, it can be assumed

[0050] The final generated codeword block can be expressed as

[0079] The codewords in the codebook set include multiple codeword blocks, at least one of which conforms to the following model:

[0081] The first matrix constructs codewords using a pre-agreed codeword generation model, with input parameters of and coefficients {β1, k, β2, k, β3, k, β4, k, β5, k} in the codeword generation model are determined according to the codeword generation parameters fed back by the terminal {t1, k, t2, k, t3, k} . The units generating the first matrix have the following form:

[0172] In addition, we can also write diag as a new matrix which is a diagonal matrix and has In addition, the Kronecker product form given in the embodiment of layer=2 is also applicable to the case of layer=6.

[0249] In this embodiment, the base station is configured with UPA, and the number of antenna ports in the horizontal and vertical directions is respectively Nx, Ny, and a set of Nt=NxNy ports CSI-RS pilots are sent for channel measurement. The terminal configured with Nr antenna ports obtains the pilot configuration information sent by the base station, performs detection at the corresponding resource position, and obtains the channel matrix information of dimension Nr×Nt.

[0250] The codewords in the codebook set include multiple codeword blocks, at least one of which conforms to the following model:

[0251] Where f represents a function,  represents an Nt*Nt dimensional matrix (or its vectorized form) , Dk represents an Nt*Nt dimensional matrix (or its vectorized form) , Nt is an integer, and K is an  integer.

[0252] The first matrix uses a pre-agreed codeword generation model to construct codewords, and the input parameters are This part of the first matrix construction refers to Embodiment 3.

[0253] Alternatively, the first matrix uses a pre-agreed codeword generation model to construct codewords, and the input parameters are This part of the first matrix construction refers to Embodiment 4.

[0254] The second matrix / vector Dk takes the form of a standard oversampled DFT vector, i.e., v l, m in the previous Embodiment .

[0255] One possible situation is that m = 0, and for different Dk, the corresponding values of l differ by an integer multiple of O1;

[0256] One possible situation is that m = 0, and for different Dk, the corresponding value of l differs by O1;

[0257] One possible situation is that m = 0, and for different Dk, the corresponding values of l differ by O1 in sequence;

[0258] One possible situation is that m = 0, and for Dk, the corresponding values of l are: the value range of [q1 q1+O1 … q1+O1 (k-1) ] , q1 varies in [0, N1 -1] ;

[0259] One possible situation is that m=0. For Dk, the corresponding values of l are [0 O1 … O1 (k-1) ] :

[0260] For other possible cases of m=0 and l=0, refer to Embodiment 6;

[0261] One possible scenario is that vl, m is selected from a set of orthogonal beams;

[0263] One possible scenario is that the pattern composed of the distribution of different vl, m in Figure 1A is a rectangle, as shown in the placement of bold circles in Figure 1A;

[0264] One possible scenario is that the pattern composed of the distribution of different vl, m in Figure  1B is a triangle (e.g., placement of circles in Figure 1B) ;

[0265] One possible scenario is that the pattern composed of the distribution of different vl, m in Figure 1C is a hexagon (e.g., placement of circles in Figure 1C) ;

[0266] One possible scenario is that the pattern composed of the distribution of different vl, m in Figure 1D is a star shape (e.g., placement of circles in Figure 1D) ;

[0267] One possible scenario is that the pattern composed of the distribution of different vl, m in Figure 1E is a circle (e.g., placement of circles in Figure 1E) ;

[0268] In FIGS. 1A to 1E, the horizontal axis may represent variable l and the vertical axis may represent variable m or vice versa.

[0269] One possible situation is to determine the starting vl, m , and the offsets corresponding to different Dk are { [0, 0] , [0, O2] , [O1, 0] , [O1, O2] } (taking k=4 as an example) ;

[0273] When k is other integers, similar analysis can be applied. It may be beneficial that different Dk are as close to the starting vl, m as possible. This is because adjacent Dk make near-field high-rank codebooks perform better, so having different Dk as close as possible to vl, m is beneficial.

[0274] The approach here can be from one side or in a surrounding manner.

[0275] In addition, due to the existence of the phase periodicity of 2π, [0, 0] and [O1 (N1-1) , O2 (N2-1) ] are also continuous, that is, patterns Figure 1A-1E can be repeatedly spliced, and the newly formed patterns are close and can be regarded as close.

[0276] One possible situation is that the starting vl, m corresponds to [q1, q2 ] , the value range of q1 is [0,  N1 -1] , and the value range of q2 is [0, N2 -1] ;

[0279] One possible scenario is that the starting vl, m corresponds to [N1O1 / 2, N2O2 / 2] .

[0281] One possible form is that the function f is a linear function between Dk;

[0282] One possible form is that the function f is some multiplicative function between Dk;

[0283] One possible expression is,  where is the dot product;

[0286] One possible situation is that is different for all k;

[0287] Embodiment 8 ULA FRFT

[0288] The base station configures a ULA including Nt antenna ports and sends a set of Nt ports CSI-RS pilots for channel measurement. The terminal configured with Nr antenna ports obtains the pilot configuration information sent by the base station, performs detection at the corresponding resource position, and obtains the channel matrix information of dimension Nr×Nt.

[0289] The first matrix / vector constructs a codeword using a pre-agreed codeword generation model, and the input parameter is {u1, k, u2, k, n, n2} . {u1, k, u2, k} is indicated by the PMI. The element generating the first matrix / vector has the following form:

[0290] One possible way to quantify this is

[0301] One possibility is different chooses the same m;

[0302] One possibility is that different chooses different l with a space being an integer multiple of Ot; for example, l1=1, l2 = l1+Ot, l3=l1+3Ot;

[0303] One possibility is to select from a set of orthogonal beams;

[0304] One possibility is that different choose the same m, and the set composed of selected l contains elements that differ by Ot. This is a special case of an orthogonal set, which means taking the same u2k and making the vectors orthogonal.

[0305] For example, the m corresponding to the column vectors in G is 4, and the values of l are  [2 2+Ot … 2+Ot (k-1) ] , Ot=2. The corresponding diagram is shown in FIG. 2.

[0306] The features that this type of codeword block hopes to protect are mainly that m for different parameters are the same and the corresponding l parameters differ by an integer multiple of Ot. The selected are orthogonal. In other words, K codeword blocks are selected from a set of orthogonal bases with the same m.

[0307] In addition, the previous embodiment mainly gives the design of type I. We can further construct a type II codebook based on the obtained orthogonal basis, corresponding to the form

[0308] That is, the orthogonal basis obtained by the previous design is used to construct with the above formula. It is recommended that the agent supplement the type II embodiment in the patent .

[0309] Embodiment 9

[0310] In this embodiment, the base station is configured with UPA, and the number of antenna ports in the horizontal and vertical directions is respectively Nx, Ny, and a set of Nt=NxNy ports CSI-RS pilots are sent for channel measurement. The terminal configured with Nr antenna ports obtains the pilot configuration information sent by the base station, performs detection at the corresponding resource position, and obtains the channel matrix information of dimension Nr×Nt.

[0311] The first matrix uses a pre-agreed codeword generation model to construct codewords, and the input parameters are This part of the first matrix construction refers to Embodiment 3.

[0312] Alternatively, the first matrix uses a pre-agreed codeword generation model to construct codewords, and the input parameters are This part of the first matrix construction refers to Embodiment 4.

[0313] Taking the codeword generation model in Embodiment 3 as an example, the corresponding  parameter quantization is β1, k=t1, k β3, k=t2, k β5, k=-2t1, kt2, kt3, k

[0314] The second matrix / vector Dk is the identity matrix or an all-1 vector.

[0315] The codeword block is

[0316] For different the selected index combination (lx, ly, m) needs to satisfy:

[0317] One possibility is different choose different β2, k;

[0318] One possibility is different choose different β4, k;

[0319] One possibility is different choose as different lx;

[0320] One possibility is different choose as different ly;

[0321] One possibility is that adjacent choose differ lx with space Ox;

[0322] One possibility is that adjacent choose different ly with space Oy;

[0323] One possibility is that the values of (lx, ly) of adjacent are different;

[0324] One possibility is that the different choose different lx that differ by an integer multiple of Ox, or different ly that differ by an integer multiple of Oy;

[0325] One possibility is that adjacent chooses adjacent or identical β2, k and β4, k; Exemplary,  have β2, k=2, β4, k=2,  have β2, k=3, β4, k=3;

[0326] One possibility is that different choose the same β2, k and β4, k;Exemplary,  have β2, k=2, β4, k=2;

[0327] One possibility is to select from a set of orthogonal beams; it should be noted that in this codebook form, the prerequisite for the orthogonality of two codewords is that

[0328] One possibility is that β2, k、β4, k and β5, k are identical, and the codeword blocks formed by the chosen (lx, ly) are orthogonal ;

[0329] One possibility is that β2, k、β4, k and β5, k are identical, and the selected (lx, ly) arranged in the frequency domain along the horizontal and vertical axes are spaced by multiples of Ox and Oy, respectively, with the starting position indicated as (q1, q2) ; the value range of q1 is [0, N1-1] , and the value range of q2 is [0, N2-1] .

[0330] For example, in Figure 3, different choose the same β2, k、β4, k and β5, k, Ox=4, Oy=2, q1=1, q2=1, the values of (lx, ly) are shown in FIG. 3.

[0331] One possibility is that different choose the same β2, k, β4, k and β5, k, and all the selected (lx, ly) are equally spaced along the horizontal and vertical axes in the frequency domain with space being multiples of Ox and Oy respectively. The starting position is indicated as (q1, q2) , the value range of q1 is [0,N1-1] , and the value range of q2 is [0, N2-1]

[0332] For example, FIG. 4, different choose the same β2, k, β4, k and β5, k, Ox=4, Oy=2, q1=1, q2=0, the values of (lx, ly) are as shown in FIG. 4.

[0333] In addition, if the first matrix form corresponding to Embodiment 4 is adopted, then naturally there is β5, k=0.

[0334] The features that this type of codeword block hopes to protect is:

[0335] -different choose the same β2, k, β4, k and β5, k (or the codeword of Embodiment 4, β5, k=0) ;

[0336] -all selected (lx, ly) are spaced by multiples of Ox and Oy respectively.

[0337] In other words, K bases are selected from a set of orthogonal bases constructed based on the same β2, k, β4, k to form a codeword block. The number of orthogonal base groups here is O1O2.

[0338] In addition, the previous embodiment mainly gives the design of type I. We can further construct a type II codebook based on the obtained orthogonal basis, corresponding to the form

[0339] That is, the orthogonal basis obtained by the previous design is used to construct as the above formula. It is recommended that the agent supplement the patent.

[0374] In the above-described embodiments and solutions, a legacy protocol may refer to the protocol and codebooks defined by the existing standards of the third generation partnership project (3GPP) releases.

[0375] It will be appreciated by those of skill in the art that this patent document discloses a codeword block of a near-field high-rank (multi-layer) codebook. One proposed solution is to multiply / dot-product a new matrix or vector on the basis of the high-rank codebook of the existing protocol, and the elements of the new matrix or vector are related to the quadratic index. Alternatively, a similar idea is adopted to design a high-rank codebook related to the quadratic index, and its codebook form can be regarded as a combination of multiple fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) bases, or a combination of the product of the FRFT base and the DFT base.

[0376] The disclosed and other embodiments, modules and the functional operations described in this document can be implemented in digital electronic circuitry, or in computer software, firmware, or  hardware, including the structures disclosed in this document and their structural equivalents, or in combinations of one or more of them. The disclosed and other embodiments can be implemented as one or more computer program products, i.e., one or more modules of computer program instructions encoded on a computer readable medium for execution by, or to control the operation of, data processing apparatus. The computer readable medium can be a machine-readable storage device, a machine-readable storage substrate, a memory device, a composition of matter effecting a machine-readable propagated signal, or a combination of one or more of them. The term “data processing apparatus” encompasses all apparatus, devices, and machines for processing data, including by way of example a programmable processor, a computer, or multiple processors or computers. The apparatus can include, in addition to hardware, code that creates an execution environment for the computer program in question, e.g., code that constitutes processor firmware, a protocol stack, a database management system, an operating system, or a combination of one or more of them. A propagated signal is an artificially generated signal, e.g., a machine-generated electrical, optical, or electromagnetic signal, that is generated to encode information for transmission to suitable receiver apparatus.

[0377] A computer program (also known as a program, software, software application, script, or code) can be written in any form of programming language, including compiled or interpreted languages, and it can be deployed in any form, including as a stand-alone program or as a module, component, subroutine, or other unit suitable for use in a computing environment. A computer program does not necessarily correspond to a file in a file system. A program can be stored in a portion of a file that holds other programs or data (e.g., one or more scripts stored in a markup language document) , in a single file dedicated to the program in question, or in multiple coordinated files (e.g., files that store one or more modules, sub programs, or portions of code) . A computer program can be deployed to be executed on one computer or on multiple computers that are located at one site or distributed across multiple sites and interconnected by a communication network.

[0378] The processes and logic flows described in this document can be performed by one or more programmable processors executing one or more computer programs to perform functions by operating on input data and generating output. The processes and logic flows can also be performed by, and  apparatus can also be implemented as, special purpose logic circuitry, e.g., an FPGA (field programmable gate array) or an ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) . Processors suitable for the execution of a computer program include, by way of example, both general and special purpose microprocessors, and any one or more processors of any kind of digital computer. Generally, a processor will receive instructions and data from a read only memory or a random-access memory or both. The essential elements of a computer are a processor for performing instructions and one or more memory devices for storing instructions and data. Generally, a computer will also include, or be operatively coupled to receive data from or transfer data to, or both, one or more mass storage devices for storing data, e.g., magnetic, magneto optical disks, or optical disks. However, a computer need not have such devices. Computer readable media suitable for storing computer program instructions and data include all forms of non-volatile memory, media and memory devices, including by way of example semiconductor memory devices, e.g., EPROM, EEPROM, and flash memory devices; magnetic disks, e.g., internal hard disks or removable disks; magneto optical disks; and CD ROM and DVD-ROM disks. The processor and the memory can be supplemented by, or incorporated in, special purpose logic circuitry.

[0379] It is noted that operation of the wireless communications as disclosed herein causes a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional methods. The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that the overall share of carbon emissions from information and communication technologies (ICT) accounts for approximately 4%of the total amount of CO2 emitted around world. Further, conventional networks can sometimes exacerbate the causes of climate change. For example, at an average of approximately 485g of CO2 per KWh of electricity that is produced worldwide, it results in a rough estimate of 145.5 million metric tons of CO2. The implementations disclosed herein for operating the wireless communications can reduce power consumption by improving efficiency of channel state reporting and reducing signaling overhead and latency.

[0380] Moreover, Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) , the organization that represents mobile operators and the telecommunication industry worldwide, has estimated that currently 20–40%of the operating cost of network operators is taken up by electricity, and that 5G can cause a substantial (as much as four to five fold) increase of energy consumption in the RAN, but that the  technical means to reduce this consumption can be included in later generation mobile networks, such as 6G networks. Avoiding unnecessary resources for handovers that may not be successful or optimal, by using the pre-verification techniques described herein, may cause less wireless message transmissions. Therefore, the disclosed implementations for operation of the wireless communications mitigates climate change and the effects of climate change.

[0381] While this patent document contains many specifics, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of any invention or of what may be claimed, but rather as descriptions of features that may be specific to particular embodiments of particular inventions. Certain features that are described in this patent document in the context of separate embodiments can also be implemented in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features that are described in the context of a single embodiment can also be implemented in multiple embodiments separately or in any suitable subcombination. Moreover, although features may be described above as acting in certain combinations and even initially claimed as such, one or more features from a claimed combination can in some cases be excised from the combination, and the claimed combination may be directed to a subcombination or variation of a subcombination.

[0382] Similarly, while operations are depicted in the drawings in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. Moreover, the separation of various system components in the embodiments described in this patent document should not be understood as requiring such separation in all embodiments.

[0383] Only a few implementations and examples are described, and other implementations, enhancements and variations can be made based on what is described and illustrated in this patent document.
