Abstract
Description
Turning tool unit
[0001] The present invention relates to a turning tool unit. This application claims priority based on Japanese Patent Application No. 2024-193119 filed in Japan on November 1, 2024, and incorporates its content herein by reference.
[0002] In machine tools such as lathes and machining centers, in order to check the state of the cutting edge of the tool, etc., electronic components such as sensors may be provided on the tool. In Patent Document 1, a configuration including a main body part where a cutting tip is installed, a sensor arranged on the main body part, a substrate arranged on the main body part and electrically connected to the sensor, and a battery arranged inside the main body part is disclosed.
[0003] Japanese Patent Publication No. 7120478 (B)
[0004] By the way, when mounting a tool as disclosed in Patent Document 1 on a machine tool such as a multi-tasking machine, an adapter to which the tool is connected may house electrical components such as a control board and a battery. However, such an adapter has a hollow part for housing the electrical components. Also, tools and adapters mounted on machine tools need to be formed within a range of specified outer dimensions, for example, with a diameter of 125 mm. When trying to form an adapter with a hollow part within limited outer dimensions, the rigidity of the adapter is insufficient, and during machining, vibrations of the tool may occur due to the reaction force input from the workpiece to the cutting edge. Therefore, in order to suppress vibrations, etc. in the tool during machining, it is desired to increase the rigidity while suppressing an increase in size.
[0005] In view of the above circumstances, one object of the present invention is to provide a turning tool unit capable of increasing rigidity while suppressing an increase in size.
[0006] One embodiment of the turning tool unit of the present invention comprises a turning tool having a tool body extending along a tool axis, a cutting section having a cutting edge and provided at the tip of one end of the tool body in the axial direction, and a sensor provided on the tool body for measuring the machined surface of a workpiece machined by the cutting section, and an adapter for holding the turning tool, wherein the turning tool has a flange at the base end of the tool body on the other end in the axial direction that expands outward in the tool radial direction intersecting the axial direction and is connected to the adapter, and the adapter integrally comprises an adapter body, a tool connection section to which the flange is connected, and a machine connection section that is detachably connected to a machine tool, and the adapter body has a first component housing section having a first housing space capable of housing electrical components electrically connected to the turning tool, and a second component housing section having a second housing space capable of housing other electrical components electrically connected to the turning tool, and provided at a different position from the first component housing section in the circumferential direction around the tool axis.
[0007] According to one embodiment of the turning tool unit of the present invention, the adapter body of the adapter has a first component housing section having a first housing space and a second component housing section having a second housing space. By providing the first and second component housing sections in this way, compared to forming one large component housing section, it is easier to secure space for electrical components while minimizing the impact on the rigidity reduction of the adapter caused by providing the first and second component housing sections. Furthermore, the turning tool is mounted on the machine tool via the adapter. Since the turning tool has a flange that expands outward in the radial direction of the tool, the area of the connection portion to the adapter can be increased, and the turning tool can be firmly connected to the adapter. As a result, it is possible to increase rigidity while keeping the size of the turning tool down.
[0008] In the turning tool unit described above, the first component housing may be provided on one side in the tool radial direction with respect to the tool shaft, and the second component housing may be provided on the other side in the tool radial direction, opposite to the first component housing, with respect to the tool shaft.
[0009] In this case, the first and second component housings are provided on one and the other sides of the tool shaft in the radial direction of the tool. This makes it easier to design the adapter body so that the impact of the first and second component housings on the rigidity reduction of the adapter is balanced around the tool shaft. In particular, a plate-like portion can be formed in the area between the first and second component housings that overlaps with the tool shaft, thereby efficiently increasing the rigidity of the adapter body.
[0010] In the turning tool unit described above, the turning tool is provided with a base for supporting the cutting portion on the first side in the tool radial direction, and the adapter body may include a base that extends along a plane including the axial direction and the first tool diameter direction connecting the first side and the second side facing the opposite side of the first side, a first wall-like portion that rises from the base on one side in the second tool diameter direction intersecting the first tool diameter direction and forms the first housing space on its inside, and a second wall-like portion that rises from the base on the other side in the second tool diameter direction and forms the second housing space on its inside.
[0011] In this case, the base of the turning tool is provided on the first side in the tool radial direction. As a result, when machining a workpiece with a cutting insert mounted on the base, the direction of the back force component of the reaction force acting on the turning tool from the workpiece side via the cutting insert is the first tool radial direction, which connects the first and second sides in the tool radial direction. In contrast, the adapter body of the adapter has a base in between, with the first component housing provided on one side in the second tool radial direction and the second component housing provided on the other side in the second tool radial direction. In other words, a base is provided between the first and second component housings that extends along a plane including the axial direction and the first tool radial direction, making it easier to effectively increase the rigidity of the adapter body in the direction of the back force component. Therefore, the back force component can be effectively received by the adapter body with the base, and vibrations generated in the turning tool during machining can be suppressed.
[0012] In the turning tool unit described above, the adapter body comprises a first cover that is detachably attached to the first wall-like portion and closes the first housing space from one side in the second direction of the tool diameter, and a second cover that is detachably attached to the second wall-like portion and closes the second housing space from the other side in the second direction of the tool diameter, and at least one of the first cover and the second cover may have a window portion made of a material that allows the electrical components to be seen from outside the adapter body.
[0013] In this case, the state of the electrical components can be visually inspected from outside the adapter body through the window portion of at least one of the first cover and the second cover.
[0014] In the turning tool unit described above, the electrical component includes a wireless communication module that transmits detection signals from the sensor, and at least a portion of the adapter body may be made of a material through which radio waves from the wireless communication module can pass.
[0015] In this case, at least a portion of the adapter body is made of a material that allows radio waves from the wireless communication module to pass through, so that the detection signal from the sensor can be transmitted well to the outside of the turning tool unit.
[0016] According to one embodiment of the present invention, a turning tool unit can be made highly rigid while keeping the size down.

[0018] The turning tool unit according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. In the following drawings, the scale and number of components in each component may differ from the actual structure in order to make the components easier to understand.
[0019] <Turning Tool Unit> Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a turning tool unit 200 according to one embodiment of the present invention. Figure 2 is a perspective view of the turning tool unit 200 according to one embodiment of the present invention, viewed from a different direction than in Figure 1. Figure 3 is a side view of the turning tool unit 200 according to one embodiment of the present invention. As shown in Figures 1 to 3, the turning tool unit 200 of this embodiment comprises a turning tool 1 and an adapter 210.
[0020] <Turning Tool> The turning tool 1 of this embodiment performs turning operations such as boring on a workpiece 100 (see Figure 3) such as a metal material that is rotated around a spindle. The turning tool 1 is connected to an adapter 210. The turning tool 1 of this embodiment is made of metal and comprises a tool body 2, a cutting insert 4, and a head unit 7.
[0021] Figure 4 is a perspective view of a turning tool 1 according to one embodiment of the present invention. As shown in Figures 1 to 4, the tool body 2 extends in the axial direction Dj along the tool axis J. The tool body 2 has a cylindrical shaft portion 21 centered on the tool axis J, a head portion 22 provided on one side Dj1 of the tool body 2 in the axial direction Dj relative to the shaft portion 21, and a flange 24 provided on the other side Dj2 of the tool body 2 in the axial direction Dj relative to the shaft portion 21.
[0022] As shown in Figures 1 to 3, the head portion 22 has a projection 23 that protrudes outward from the outer circumferential surface of the shaft portion 21 in the tool radial direction Dr of the tool body 2, intersecting the axial direction Dj. The projection 23 is provided with a base 23d that faces outward in the tool radial direction Dr, at a position recessed inward in the tool radial direction Dr centered on the tool axis J.
[0023] A cartridge 41 is attached to the base 23d. The cartridge 41 is fastened and secured to the base 23d by bolts 43. The cartridge 41 holds the cutting insert 4. The base 23d and the cutting insert 4 attached to the base 23d are positioned on the first side Dr1 in the radial direction Dr of the tool with respect to the tool axis J in the tool body 2.
[0024] The cutting insert 4 has a rhombic shape when viewed from the thickness direction. The cutting insert 4 has a pair of rhombic main surfaces in plan view facing the thickness direction, and a side surface connecting the pair of main surfaces. A cutting edge 42 is provided on the ridge between the main surface and the side surface of the cutting insert 4. The cutting edge 42 is provided at the tip of one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj of the tool body 2. A portion of the cutting edge 42 protrudes from the tool body 2 to one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj. The cutting edge 42 also protrudes outward from the tool body 2 in the tool radial direction Dr. Therefore, a portion of the cutting edge 42 is located at the very tip of one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj of the tool body 2, and at the outermost end of the tool radial direction Dr.
[0025] According to this embodiment, the cutting insert 4 is fixed to the tool body 2 via a cartridge 41. Therefore, by changing the cartridge 41, cutting inserts 4 of various shapes can be fixed to the tool body 2, increasing the versatility of the tool body 2.
[0026] As shown in Figure 4, the head portion 22 has a mounting recess 25 on the second side Dr2 in the tool radial direction Dr with respect to the tool axis J, to which the head unit 7 is attached. The mounting recess 25 is formed on the first surface 22a of the head portion 22, facing outward (second side Dr2) in the tool radial direction Dr of the tool body 2. The mounting recess 25 is formed recessed inward from the first surface 22a in the tool radial direction Dr.
[0027] The head unit 7 is detachably mounted in the mounting recess 25 of the head portion 22. The head unit 7 comprises a holder member 70, a sensor device 3, an imaging device 5, and an illumination device 6. The head unit 7 is positioned on the second side Dr2 in the tool radial direction Dr with respect to the tool axis J in the tool body 2. In other words, the head unit 7 is positioned on the opposite side of the tool axis J from the base 23d and the cutting insert 4 which is attached to the base 23d as part of the cartridge 41 in the tool radial direction Dr of the tool body 2.
[0028] The holder member 70 is provided in the mounting recess 25. The holder member 70 is detachably attached to the tool body 2. The holder member 70 has an outer peripheral wall portion 71. The outer peripheral wall portion 71 faces outward (second side Dr2) in the tool radial direction Dr of the tool body 2. When viewed from the second side Dr2 in the tool radial direction Dr, the outer peripheral wall portion 71 has a rectangular shape. The holder member 70 has a recess (not shown) on the side facing the bottom surface of the mounting recess 25 that opens to the first side Dr1 in the tool radial direction Dr. A camera 51 and an illumination device 6, which will be described later, are provided in the recess.
[0029] The sensor device 3 comprises a first distance sensor 31 and a second distance sensor 32. In this embodiment, the first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 measure, as a physical quantity, the distance to the machined surface of the workpiece 100 processed using the cutting insert 4. In this embodiment, the first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 are eddy current sensors. In this embodiment, the case in which the sensors provided on the tool body 2 as part of the head unit 7 are distance sensors (first distance sensor 31 and second distance sensor 32) has been described. However, the sensors provided on the tool body 2 may be other sensors (for example, image sensors) as long as they are capable of measuring the machined surface.
[0030] The first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 are positioned with their respective tips facing the object to be measured. The first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 generate a high-frequency magnetic field by passing a high-frequency current through them. This causes eddy currents to flow on the surface (machined surface) of the object to be measured, which is a conductor, and the impedance in the coils inside the first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 changes. The first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 determine the distance to the object to be measured from this change in impedance. The first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 output the change in impedance as a voltage (in volts). The output values of the first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 are converted to the distance to the object to be measured using a pre-calculated calibration formula. Eddy current sensors tend to maintain stable measurement accuracy even with external disturbances such as the surrounding environment. For this reason, eddy current sensors are suitable for distance measurement in environments with many external disturbances after machining, regardless of whether wet machining or dry machining is selected, compared to optical distance sensors.
[0031] The tip of the first distance sensor 31 is positioned facing outward in the tool radial direction Dr from the outer circumferential surface of the tool body 2. The first distance sensor 31 measures the distance to the object to be measured, which is positioned outside the tool radial direction Dr of the tool body 2. In other words, the first distance sensor 31 measures outward in the tool radial direction Dr. The first distance sensor 31 measures the distance to the machined surface of the workpiece 100, which has been machined by the cutting insert 4 and faces inward in the tool radial direction Dr.
[0032] The tip of the second distance sensor 32 is positioned facing one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj from the tip 22s of the head portion 22 of the tool body 2. The second distance sensor 32 measures the distance to the object to be measured, which is positioned on one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj of the tool body 2. In other words, the second distance sensor 32 measures in the direction of one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj. The second distance sensor 32 measures the distance to the machined surface of the workpiece 100, which has been machined by the cutting insert 4 and faces the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj.
[0033] The first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 are used to measure the machined surface of the workpiece 100 after the turning tool 1 has formed the machined surface. Since the first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 are provided on the tool body 2, the machined surface after cutting can be measured without separating the turning tool 1 from the workpiece 100. This reduces the time required to measure the machined surface during turning. Furthermore, the first distance sensor 31 can be used to measure the distance to the machined surface facing inward in the tool radial direction Dr, which has been machined by the cutting insert 4, and the second distance sensor 32 can be used to measure the distance to the machined surface facing the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj, which has been machined by the cutting insert 4. In other words, during dimensional measurement, dimensions of surfaces facing different directions can be measured without changing the orientation of the workpiece 100, further reducing the time required for the measurement process. The first distance sensor 31 can measure the outer diameter, inner diameter, and roundness of the surface machined by the cutting insert 4. Furthermore, the second distance sensor 32 can measure the axial position of the stepped portion and the bottom of the hole at the cutting insert 4.
[0034] The imaging device 5 is mounted on the head unit 7 of the tool body 2. The imaging device 5 is positioned on the other side Dj2 of the axial direction Dj, with the tool axis J in between, relative to the sensor device 3. The imaging device 5 comprises a camera 51 and a lens cover 53.
[0035] The camera 51 is, for example, a waterproof CMOS image sensor or a CCD image sensor. The camera 51 is fixed to a base member (not shown) provided inside the head unit 7. The camera 51 has a lens section that faces the object to be photographed. The lens section has a lens (not shown) built into the camera 51. The camera 51 is positioned with the lens section facing outward in the tool radial direction Dr.
[0036] The camera 51 is positioned to capture images of the outside of the tool body 2 in the tool radial direction Dr through a camera opening (not shown) formed in the outer peripheral wall portion 71. The camera opening is covered by a lens cover 53. The lens cover 53 is made of a light-transmitting resin material, glass material, etc. The camera 51 captures images of the machined surface of the workpiece 100 that has been cut by the cutting insert 4, which faces inward in the tool radial direction Dr, the so-called inner diameter surface.
[0037] The camera 51 is positioned on the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj relative to the cutting insert 4 which is attached to the base 23d. However, it is preferable to position the camera 51 as close as possible to the machining position of the machined surface by the cutting insert 4 in the axial direction Dj. This allows the state of the machined surface after machining to be photographed from a closer position. Alternatively, if the sensor device 3 is positioned in a different location than described above, the camera 51 may be positioned in the same position in the axial direction Dj relative to the cutting insert 4. This allows the machined surface to be photographed from a closer position during or after machining by the cutting insert 4.
[0038] The lighting device 6 is provided on the head unit 7 of the tool body 2. The lighting device 6 illuminates the workpiece surface captured by the camera 51. In this embodiment, the lighting device 6 comprises a first lighting device 6A and a second lighting device 6B. The first lighting device 6A is positioned on the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj relative to the camera 51 of the imaging device 5. The second lighting device 6B is positioned in the axial direction Dj, overlapping with the camera 51 of the imaging device 5. In this embodiment, the second lighting device 6B is positioned on both sides in the circumferential direction around the tool axis J relative to the camera 51. The second lighting device 6B may be positioned on only one side in the circumferential direction relative to the camera 51. Each of the first lighting device 6A and the second lighting device 6B is equipped with a light source, such as an LED.
[0039] An inclined portion 71k is formed on the outer peripheral wall portion 71 of the holder member 70. The inclined portion 71k is formed on the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj with respect to the first illumination device 6A. The inclined portion 71k extends from the imaging device 5 toward the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj, inclined toward the first side Dr1 in the tool radial direction Dr. As a result, a stepped surface 71d facing one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj is formed between the outer peripheral surface of the outer peripheral wall portion 71 and the tip of the inclined portion 71k. The first illumination device 6A is provided on the stepped surface 71d. Illumination light from the first illumination device 6A is irradiated toward one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj. Illumination light from the first illumination device 6A is reflected off the surface of the inclined portion 71k and irradiated toward the outer machining surface in the tool radial direction Dr.
[0040] Furthermore, the outer peripheral wall portion 71 of the holder member 70 is provided with light source housings 78 on both sides in the circumferential direction relative to the camera 51. Each light source housing 78 is recessed inward from the outer peripheral surface of the outer peripheral wall portion 71 in the tool radial direction Dr. The light source of the second illumination device 6B is housed in each light source housing 78. Each light source housing 78 is provided with a cover (not shown) to cover the light source. The illumination light from the light source of the second illumination device 6B is irradiated onto the outer machining surface in the tool radial direction Dr at a position where it overlaps with the camera 51 in the axial direction Dj.
[0041] As shown in Figures 1 to 4, the flange 24 is provided at the base end of the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj on the tool body 2. The flange 24 expands in diameter outward in the radial direction Dr relative to the shaft portion 21. The flange 24 is formed in a disc shape when viewed from the axial direction Dj, and a portion 24b in the circumferential direction is cut out so as to extend linearly in the width direction Dw.
[0042] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the tool body 2 of the turning tool 1 is connected to the adapter 210 by fastening multiple bolts 90 with the flange 24 abutting against the adapter 210.
[0043] Inside the tool body 2, a wiring insertion hole (not shown) is formed. The wiring insertion hole houses wirings (not shown) connected to each of the first distance sensor 31, the second distance sensor 32, the camera 51, the light source of the first lighting device 6A, and the light source of the second lighting device 6B. The wiring extends through the wiring insertion hole to the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj and is led into an adapter 210 described later.
[0044] <Adapter> Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing an adapter 210 of a turning tool unit 200 according to an embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the adapter 210 according to an embodiment of the present invention. The adapter 210 is detachable from a machine tool and holds the turning tool 1. As shown in Figs. 1 to 3, 5, and 6, the adapter 210 includes an adapter body 220, a tool connection portion 211, and a machine connection portion 212.
[0045] The adapter body 220 is rectangular when viewed from the axial direction Dj and extends a predetermined length in the axial direction Dj. That is, the adapter body 220 is formed in a substantially rectangular parallelepiped shape. As shown in Fig. 5, the adapter body 220 integrally includes a base portion 225, a first wall portion 226A, and a second wall portion 226B.
[0046] The base portion 225 is formed in a plate shape that spreads along a plane including the axial direction Dj and the first tool diameter direction Dra. Here, the first tool diameter direction Dra is a direction connecting the first side Dr1 and the second side Dr2 of the tool diameter direction Dr. Also, in a plane intersecting the tool axis J, the direction intersecting (orthogonal) to the first tool diameter direction Dra is referred to as the second tool diameter direction Drb. In other words, the base portion 225 spreads along a plane intersecting the second tool diameter direction Drb. The base portion 225 is formed in a rectangular shape when viewed from the second tool diameter direction Drb.
[0047] The first wall portion 226A rises from the outer peripheral edge of the base portion 225 to one side Drb1 in the second tool diameter direction Drb. The first wall portion 226A forms a rectangular cylindrical shape when viewed from the second tool diameter direction Drb. Inside the first wall portion 226A, a first accommodation space Sa capable of accommodating the electrical component 400 is formed. The other side Drb2 in the second tool diameter direction Drb of the first accommodation space Sa is closed by the base portion 225. The first accommodation space Sa opens toward one side Drb1 in the second tool diameter direction Drb.
[0048] The second wall-like portion 226B rises from the outer peripheral edge of the base portion 225 to the other side Drb2 in the second tool diameter direction Drb. The second wall-like portion 226B forms a rectangular cylindrical shape when viewed from the second tool diameter direction Drb. The second wall-like portion 226B forms a second accommodation space Sb inside thereof that can accommodate the electrical component 400. One side Drb1 in the second tool diameter direction Drb of the second accommodation space Sb is blocked by the base portion 225. The second accommodation space Sb opens toward the other side Drb2 in the second tool diameter direction Drb.
[0049] The first accommodation space Sa and the second accommodation space Sb accommodate the electrical component 400 that is electrically connected to the turning tool 1. Examples of the electrical component 400 include, for example, the first distance sensor 31 of the turning tool 1, the second distance sensor 32, the camera 51, a control unit that controls each light source, a battery that supplies power to the control unit, and the like. The control unit includes a wireless communication module 405 that transmits detection signals and the like from the first distance sensor 31 and the second distance sensor 32 to the outside.
[0050] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 and FIG. 5, such an adapter body 220 is provided with a first lid body 227 and a second lid body 228. The first lid body 227 is detachably attached to the first wall-like portion 226A and closes the first accommodation space Sa from one side Drb1 in the second tool diameter direction Drb. The second lid body 228 is detachably attached to the second wall-like portion 226B and closes the second accommodation space Sb from the other side Dj2 in the second tool diameter direction Drb. Each of the first lid body 227 and the second lid body 228 is fixed by a bolt 229 in a state of being in close contact with the tips of the first wall-like portion 226A and the second wall-like portion 226B via a packing (not shown).
[0051] The base portion 225, the first wall-like portion 226A, and the first lid body 227 constitute a first component accommodation portion 221A having a first accommodation space Sa that can accommodate the electrical component 400. The base portion 225, the second wall-like portion 226B, and the second lid body 228 constitute a second component accommodation portion 221B having a second accommodation space Sb that can accommodate the electrical component 400. The second component accommodation portion 221B is provided at a position different from that of the first component accommodation portion 221A in the circumferential direction around the tool axis J.
[0052] As shown in Figure 5, the first component housing section 221A is provided on one side Drb1 of the tool diameter second direction Drb, and the second component housing section 221B is provided on the other side Drb2 of the tool diameter second direction Drb, opposite to the first component housing section 221A, with the tool shaft J in between. In other words, the adapter body 220 has the first component housing section 221A and the second component housing section 221B provided on both sides of the base 225 in the tool diameter second direction Drb.
[0053] When machining the workpiece 100 with the cutting insert 4, the direction of the main component force Fm of the reaction force acting on the turning tool 1 from the workpiece 100 side via the cutting insert 4 is the second direction of the tool diameter Drb, and the direction of the back component force Fb is the first direction of the tool diameter Dra, which connects the first side Dr1 and the second side Dr2 of the tool diameter Dr.
[0054] The adapter body 220 is provided with a base portion 225 between the first component housing portion 221A and the second component housing portion 221B, in the portion including the tool axis J of the turning tool 1. The base portion 225 extends along a plane that intersects the second direction of the tool diameter Drb (a plane including the axial direction Dj and the first direction of the tool diameter Dra). With such a base portion 225, even in a configuration comprising the first component housing portion 221A and the second component housing portion 221B, the static and dynamic rigidity of the adapter body 220 in the direction of the back force Fb can be effectively increased, and the turning tool 1 can be firmly supported.
[0055] Furthermore, in order to increase the static and dynamic rigidity of the adapter body 220 with respect to the main force component Fm, it is preferable to make the thickness T of the base portion 225 in the second tool diameter direction Drb (direction of the main force component Fm) as large as possible. To achieve this, it is preferable to make the thickness T of the base portion 225 larger than the depth Z in the second tool diameter direction Drb of the first housing space Sa and the second housing space Sb.
[0056] Furthermore, by forming the adapter body 220 in a rectangular shape when viewed from the axial direction Dj, it is easier to increase the overall rigidity of the adapter body 220 of the base 225 while securing the capacity of the first storage space Sa and the second storage space Sb within the limited external dimensions predetermined for mounting on a machine tool.
[0057] As shown in Figures 1 and 3, a window portion 227w is provided in at least one of the first cover 227 and the second cover 228. In this embodiment, the window portion 227w is provided in the first cover 227. The window portion 227w is made of glass, for example, and allows the electrical components 400 housed in the first housing space Sa and the second housing space Sb to be viewed from outside the adapter body 220. The electrical components 400 may have an information display unit (not shown) capable of displaying information. The information display unit (not shown) displays information related to the first distance sensor 31, the second distance sensor 32, the camera 51, the operating status of each light source, the battery level, etc. Examples of information display units include lamps such as LEDs and liquid crystal panels. By providing the window portion 227w in the first cover 227, the information display unit of the electrical components 400 housed in the first housing space Sa can be viewed from outside the adapter 210.
[0058] Furthermore, at least a portion of the adapter body 220 is made of a material that allows radio waves from the wireless communication module 405 to pass through. In this embodiment, radio waves from the wireless communication module 405 can pass through the glass window portion 227w. Alternatively, instead of the window portion 227w, portions that allow radio waves to pass through may be provided in the first wall portion 226A and the second wall portion 226B.
[0059] As shown in Figures 1 to 3, the tool connection portion 211 is provided at the end of one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj of the adapter 210. The external dimensions of the tool connection portion 211 are smaller than those of the adapter body 220 when viewed from the axial direction Dj. The tool connection portion 211 is formed in a cylindrical shape that protrudes from the adapter body 220 to one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj. The outer diameter of the tool connection portion 211 is equal to or larger than the outer diameter of the flange 24. By providing a tool connection portion 211 with smaller external dimensions than the adapter body 220 in this way, the weight of the adapter 210 at one side Dj1 in the axial direction Dj is reduced, contributing to an improvement in the dynamic rigidity of the adapter 210.
[0060] The machine connection portion 212 is provided at the end of the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj of the adapter 210. The machine connection portion 212 is axial in shape with a predetermined shape, extending from the adapter body 220 to the other side Dj2 in the axial direction Dj, and is connectable to a machine tool.
[0061] [Effects of this Embodiment] According to the turning tool unit 200 of this embodiment described above, the adapter body 220 of the adapter 210 has a first component housing section 221A having a first housing space Sa, and a second component housing section 221B having a second housing space Sb. By providing the first component housing section 221A and the second component housing section 221B in this way, compared to forming one large housing space, it is possible to secure housing space for electrical components 400 while reducing the impact on the rigidity reduction of the adapter 210 caused by providing the first component housing section 221A and the second component housing section 221B. Furthermore, the turning tool 1 is mounted on the machine tool via the adapter 210. Since the turning tool 1 is equipped with a flange 24 that expands in diameter on the outside in the tool radial direction Dr, the area of the connection portion to the adapter 210 can be increased, and the turning tool 1 can be firmly connected to the adapter 210. As a result, it is possible to increase the rigidity while suppressing the increase in size of the turning tool 1.
[0062] Furthermore, in this embodiment, the first component housing section 221A and the second component housing section 221B are provided on one side and the other side of the tool shaft J in the tool radial direction Dr (second tool radial direction Drb). This makes it easier to design the adapter body 220 so that the impact of the first component housing section 221A and the second component housing section 221B on the rigidity reduction of the adapter 210 is balanced around the tool shaft J. In particular, a plate-like portion (base 225) can be formed in the portion between the first component housing section 221A and the second component housing section 221B that overlaps with the tool shaft J, thereby efficiently increasing the rigidity of the adapter body 220.
[0063] In this embodiment, the base 23d of the turning tool 1 is provided on the first side Dr1 in the tool radial direction Dr. As a result, when machining the workpiece 100 with the cutting insert 4 attached to the base 23d, the direction of the back force Fb of the reaction force acting on the turning tool 1 from the workpiece 100 side via the cutting insert 4 is the first tool radial direction Dra, which connects the first side Dr1 and the second side Dr2 in the tool radial direction Dr. In contrast, the adapter body 220 of the adapter 210 has a base 225 provided between the first component housing 221A and the second component housing 221B, so the rigidity of the adapter body 220 in the direction of the back force Fb can be effectively increased. Therefore, the back force Fb can be effectively received by the base 225, and vibrations generated in the turning tool 1 during machining can be suppressed.
[0064] In this embodiment, the state of the electrical components can be visually inspected from outside the adapter body 220 through the window 227w of the first cover 227.
[0065] Furthermore, in this embodiment, at least a portion of the adapter body 220 is made of a material that allows radio waves from the wireless communication module 405 to pass through, so that detection signals from the distance sensors 31 and 32 can be transmitted well to the outside of the turning tool unit 200.
[0066] [Other configurations included in the present invention] The present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above, and the configuration can be modified, for example, as described below, without departing from the spirit of the present invention.
[0067] In the above-described embodiment, a window portion 227w is provided in the first lid 227, but windows may also be provided in the first wall portion 226A or the second wall portion 226B to allow visual inspection of the state of the electrical components 400 or to allow radio waves to pass through.
[0068] In the embodiments described above, examples were given for the configuration of the turning tool 1, but the invention is not limited to these examples. The turning tool 1 may have other configurations as appropriate.
[0069] Furthermore, without departing from the spirit of the present invention, the configurations (components) described in the above embodiments, modifications, and provisos may be combined, and additions, omissions, substitutions, and other modifications of the configurations are permitted. Moreover, the present invention is not limited by the above embodiments, but is limited only by the claims.
