Abstract

Rather, the inventors have contemplated that the claimed or disclosed subject matter might also be embodied in other ways, to include different steps or combinations of steps similar to the ones described in thi document, in conjunction with other present or future technologies. Moreover, although the terms “step” and / or ‘■‘block’'' might be used herein to connote different elements of methods employed, the terms should not be interpreted as implying any particular order among or between various steps herein disclosed unless and except when the order of individual steps is explicitly stated.

[0004] At a high level, aspects herein relate to a pocket system for an apparel item, where the pocket system is configured to be low profile, to arrange small objects such as flowers or plants, and to minimize movement of the stowed small objects so as to substantially maintain the chosen arrangement position, height and angle, and improve the wearer's style. In exemplary aspects, the apparel item comprises a first panel of material, a second panel of material. A bottom edge of the second panel is affixed to the first panel of the apparel surface. The second panel is positioned on the external or front surface of the first panel. Amain or larger pocket space is defined between at least the first panel and the second panel. A small or smaller compartment is defined between the second panel after it has been folded over itself. A slit-type opening to the small or smaller compartment is formed through the second panel. This slit is in communication with the compartment. In aspects, the perimeter bottom and side edges of the second panel are further affixed to the first panel of material that may form part of the surface of the apparel.

[0005] By configuring the pocket system as described, the compartment is generally “hidden” from view. That is, by configuring the opening to the compartment of the pocket system to have an internal slittype opening(s) on the second panel, the pocket system assumes or appears to be just a regular pocket. This may be useful in all types of apparel, but especially in casual or formal apparel where an aesthetic enhancement via a flower or the like may be desired. This configuration also helps to securely stow small objects such as flowers as compared to, for instance, pocket systems without the slit or small opening located near the top edge of the pocket opening that may be utilised as a securing point to releasably hold a flower in a more visible or otherwise aesthetically pleasing position. This, in turn, may help improve wearer style and improve wearer perception by others. In another aspect, an apparel item for an upper torso of a wearer is provided. The apparel item comprises a first panel of material having at least an external surface and an opposite internal surface, where at least a portion of the external surface of the apparel is defined. The apparel item further comprises a second panel and a mesh layer positioned adjacent and affixed with the second panel. The second panel has at least a bottom edge, right and left edges affixed to the external surface of the first panel of the apparel so as to define a space between the first panel and second panel. The apertures in the mesh layer provide a means to removably receive and detach small items such as a flower that may be threaded through the mesh aperture.

[0006] Positional terms as used herein such as “superior,” “top,” “bottom,” “inferior,” “anterior,” “posterior,” and the like are to be given their common meaning with respect to the apparel item being worn as intended by a. hypothetical wearer standing in an upright position. The term “apparel item” as used herein, may comprise apparel items such as shirts, pants, shorts, jackets, coats, and die like. It may further compri se items such as socks, hats, shoes, and other types of equipment meant to be worn by a wearer. Elements may be permanently attached using, for instance, stitching, bonding, welding, laminates, adhesives, and the like.

For instance, the first panel of material 110 may comprise a light-weight material that is substantially or relatively more windresistant (e.g., a tightly woven or knit material), and / or water-resistant (e.g., a material treated with a durable water repellant (DWR)), and / or a material that dries quickly. More specifically, in some exemplary aspects or embodiments, the slit 121 may be positioned anywhere in or on the third surface 125 as shown in FIG. IB. In some aspects or embodiments, the dimension of the third surface 125 may be substantially equal to that of the width W1 and may have a height Hl as shown in FIG. IF. It is contemplated herein that although the third surface 125 is illustrated as having a substantially rectangular shape in the example shown, it is contemplated that in other embodiments the shape may be a trapezium, rhombus, or any other shape(s) as desired. In some exemplary aspects, the location of the slit 121 may be referred to as the inner or rear surface of the hem of the arrangement pocket 120. Although the second panel of material 120 that forms the arrangement pocket 120 in this illustrative embodiment is shown in a substantially rectangular shape, it is contemplated herein that the second panel of material 120 and shape of other arrangement pocket embodiments may be in any other geometric shape or organic shape or any combination of geometric and organic shapes, and the like. Similarly, although the slit 121 in this particular illustrative embodiment is in a substantially rectangular shape, it is contemplated herein that the slit 121 in other embodiments may be in any other geometric shape or organic shape or any combination of geometric and organic shapes, and the like. In some aspects, the second panel of material 120 individually defines the arrangement pocket 120 after having the slit 121 formed into it. The slit 121 cut or otherwise formed into the second panel of material 120 may also comprise a thread around the cut to prevent the slit 121 from fraying and changing the dimensions of the opening and / or deforming the second panel of material 120. In some aspects, the opening 121 may have dimensions ranging from 1mm to 10mm. This may be important to limit and keep the flower, plant, stem, or other small object in a desired and / or aesthetically appealing arrangement position.

It is contemplated that the shape of the pocket may be another geometrical shape. In some aspects, the location of the slit 121 may be near the apex or top edge of the arrangement pocket 120 as shown in FIGS. 1 A-1F. It is contemplated herein, that in other embodiments, the location of the slit 121 may be in any position in or on the third surface 125 of the second panel of material 120. The slit 121 may extend from the third surface 125 through to the fourth surface 126. The flower F has a portion of its stem (as shown by the dashed lines) inside the compartment 130 which may be in contact with the optional seam line 141. The optionality of the seam line 141 will be further described below. In other aspects or embodiments without the use of the optional seam line 141, when a user inserts any flower through the slit 121 the stem (if long enough) will just simply extend pass the bottom edge 127 of the second panel of material 120. It is contemplated herein that the apparel item 100 may comprise multiple pocket openings and multiple pocket systems. Any and all aspects, and any variation thereof, are contemplated as being within aspects herein. The small pocket slit 121 may be formed through mechanical cutting, laser cutting, manipulating a knitting or weaving process to form the slit 121, and the like.

[0014] FIG. 1C illustrates a cross-sectional view of the arrangement pocket system 120 taken along cut line 1C-1C of FIG. 1 in accordance with aspects herein. As shown in FIG. 1C, the pocket system 170 comprises a some what triple-layered arrangement having an outer layer formed by the second panel of material 120 that may partially fold over itself and an inner layer 110 joined (by stitching, gluing, or other affixing means) adjacent at a point 140 adjacent end 113 of the first panel of material 110 and end 129 of the second panel of material. Said another way, the pocket system 170 may be said to comprise a triple-layer arrangement at a cross-section that is relatively higher up and near the main or large pocket opening 150 and a double-layer arrangement at another cross-section taken a lower point after the folded layer of the second panel of material 120 has been affixed with itself. In other aspects or embodiments, the pocket system 170 may be substantially or significantly more or less triple-layered, this depends on how much material is used to for third surface 125 which may be lengthened or shorten as desired. In aspects, the second panel of material 120 may be used to form the external surface of the pocket system 120 and may be used to form the small compartment 130 by folding a single layer of material onto itself. It is also contemplated herein, that the pocket system 170 may comprise a single layer of material so that the entire pocket system 170 made be made with a single piece of material (see FIG.1H).

Similar to the construction of the pocket system 220 of the apparel item 200, a second layer of material 520 is positioned on a surface of the first layer of material 510, but instead of being on the external surface as shown in apparel item 200, in this embodiment for a waist pocket, the second layer of material 520 will be position on the rear surface of the first layer 510 adjacent each respective pocket opening 550. The position of attachment of the first layer of material 510 and second layer of material 510 may also be different in a way such that in some exemplary aspects a side or edge of the second layer of material 520 that is substantially aligned or in close proximity with the first layer of material 510 that defines pocket opening 550 are connected with with thread, seam line, adhesive, or the like. CLAIMSWhat is claimed is:

An apparel item comprising:A first panel of material;A second panel of material with at least one fold over itself positioned adjacent and external to the first panel of material so that a surface of the portion of the second panel that has not been overlapped is positioned adjacent to the surface of the first panel of material and the folded portion forming two layers is positioned substantially above the non-overlapped portion;Wherein the portion of the second panel which has been folded comprises a slit in the surface that is in communication with the compartment formed between the outer layer of the second panel and the folded inner layer of the second panel.

2. A pocket system comprising:A first panel of material which is folded upwardly to form the external surface of the pocket and then downwardly to form the interior hem surface of the pocket3. The pocket system of claim 2, wherein the pocket system comprises a mesh layer positioned on the internal surface adjacent the top edge.
