Abstract

An apparel comprises an arrangement pocket with the ability to arrange or position an object, such as a flower, and have it's position substantially maintained so that certain or desired portion(s) may remain visible adjacent or above the pocket; the pocket may be made from the layer of the apparel or may be a separate layer that is attached to the apparel; the arrangement pocket may comprise one or a plurality of small openings or holes for receiving or somewhat securing and / or removing an object and may in some embodiments further comprise a slit or aperture for the easier removal of a portion or parts, for example stem flower, of the object that has detached from the object arranged or positioned in the arrangement pocket; the small opening(s) is or are in communication with a small compartment adjacent top or side edge of the arrangement pocket.

[0003] The subject matter of the present invention is described with specificity herein to meet statutory’ requirements. However, the description itself is not intended to limit the scope of this disclosure. Rather, the inventors have contemplated that the claimed or disclosed subject matter might also be embodied in other ways, to include different steps or combinations of steps similar to the ones described in thi document, in conjunction with other present or future technologies. Moreover, although the terms “step” and / or ‘■‘block’'' might be used herein to connote different elements of methods employed, the terms should not be interpreted as implying any particular order among or between various steps herein disclosed unless and except when the order of individual steps is explicitly stated.

[0004] At a high level, aspects herein relate to a pocket system for an apparel item, where the pocket system is configured to be low profile, to arrange small objects such as flowers or plants, and to minimize movement of the stowed small objects so as to substantially maintain the chosen arrangement position, height and angle, and improve the wearer's style. In exemplary aspects, the apparel item comprises a first panel of material, a second panel of material. A bottom edge of the second panel is affixed to the first panel of the apparel surface. The second panel is positioned on the external or front surface of the first panel. Amain or larger pocket space is defined between at least the first panel and the second panel. A small or smaller compartment is defined between the second panel after it has been folded over itself. A slit-type opening to the small or smaller compartment is formed through the second panel. This slit is in communication with the compartment. In aspects, the perimeter bottom and side edges of the second panel are further affixed to the first panel of material that may form part of the surface of the apparel.

[0005] By configuring the pocket system as described, the compartment is generally “hidden” from view. That is, by configuring the opening to the compartment of the pocket system to have an internal slittype opening(s) on the second panel, the pocket system assumes or appears to be just a regular pocket. This may be useful in all types of apparel, but especially in casual or formal apparel where an aesthetic enhancement via a flower or the like may be desired. This configuration also helps to securely stow small objects such as flowers as compared to, for instance, pocket systems without the slit or small opening located near the top edge of the pocket opening that may be utilised as a securing point to releasably hold a flower in a more visible or otherwise aesthetically pleasing position. This, in turn, may help improve wearer style and improve wearer perception by others. In another aspect, an apparel item for an upper torso of a wearer is provided. The apparel item comprises a first panel of material having at least an external surface and an opposite internal surface, where at least a portion of the external surface of the apparel is defined. The apparel item further comprises a second panel and a mesh layer positioned adjacent and affixed with the second panel. The second panel has at least a bottom edge, right and left edges affixed to the external surface of the first panel of the apparel so as to define a space between the first panel and second panel. The apertures in the mesh layer provide a means to removably receive and detach small items such as a flower that may be threaded through the mesh aperture.

[0006] Positional terms as used herein such as “superior,” “top,” “bottom,” “inferior,” “anterior,” “posterior,” and the like are to be given their common meaning with respect to the apparel item being worn as intended by a. hypothetical wearer standing in an upright position. The term “apparel item” as used herein, may comprise apparel items such as shirts, pants, shorts, jackets, coats, and die like. It may further compri se items such as socks, hats, shoes, and other types of equipment meant to be worn by a wearer. The term “panel of material,” as used herein, may mean a unitary panel of material without seams (i.e., seamless) or it may mean multiple pieces of material affixed together to form a structure. As used in this disclosure, terms such as “affixing,” “coupling,” “securing,” and the like may mean releasably attaching or permanently attaching two or more elements together. Elements may be releasably attached using, for instance, zippers, sliders, button, hooks, snaps, hook-and-loop fasteners, releasable adhesives, and the like. Elements may be permanently attached using, for instance, stitching, bonding, welding, laminates, adhesives, and the like.

[0007] FIG. l is a front view of an arrangement pocket 11 utilised with a shirt 100 to illustrate an embodiment of the present invention. The apparel item 100 is shown in the form of a t-shirt, but it is contemplated herein that the apparel item 100 may be any type of apparel item for an upper or lower torso of a wearer, such as a button shirt, jacket, shorts, pants, tights, and the like.

[0008] The apparel item 100 is formed from at least a first panel of material 110 that forms an outer layer of the apparel item 100, and a second panel of material 120 that forms an exterior surface of an arrangement pocket 170 having an opening 121 (shown by dashed lines to indicate it is hidden from view) which may be located on the inner side or side facing the first panel of material 110 of the apparel item 100. In this particular illustrative embodiment shown in fig. 1, the opening 130 is located adjacent to the top edge of the second panel of material 120. In this and some other embodiments, the opening 130 may be located on the area commonly referred to as the hem of the pocket in the second panel of material 120. The second panel of material 120 may be cut and folded on itself and attached by thread or other commonly known means or forms in the art of attaching two layers or pieces of material, such as with adhesives or the like.

[0009] In some aspects, the first panel of material 110 may comprise a separate panel from the second panel of material 120, and in other aspects, the first and second panels of material 110 and 120 may comprise a single piece of material that is manipulated to form the external surface of the apparel and the arrangement pocket 170 of the apparel item 100. Any and all aspects, and any variation thereof, are contemplated as being within aspects herein.

[0010] In some exemplary aspects, the first panel of material 110 may comprise a tightly woven material shell layer configured to protect the wearer from the elements. For instance, the first panel of material 110 may comprise a light-weight material that is substantially or relatively more windresistant (e.g., a tightly woven or knit material), and / or water-resistant (e.g., a material treated with a durable water repellant (DWR)), and / or a material that dries quickly. In some exemplary aspects, the second panel of material 120, which forms the arrangement pocket 120 may have substantially the same or similar properties of the material used in the first panel 110. In other exemplary aspects, the arrangement pocket 120 may be formed of a material with some or substantially different properties to that of the material used in the first panel 110. In some exemplary aspects, the arrangement pocket 170 has a slit 121 that is intended not to be visible from the frontal view of the shirt 100. This aspect may be achieved in some exemplary embodiments when the aperture or slit 121 is located on the second panel of material 120 that is folded onto itself or otherwise manipulated to be behind the front or external or frontally visible portion of the arrangement pocket 170. More specifically, in some exemplary aspects or embodiments, the slit 121 may be positioned anywhere in or on the third surface 125 as shown in FIG. IB. In some aspects or embodiments, the dimension of the third surface 125 may be substantially equal to that of the width W1 and may have a height Hl as shown in FIG. IF. It is contemplated herein that although the third surface 125 is illustrated as having a substantially rectangular shape in the example shown, it is contemplated that in other embodiments the shape may be a trapezium, rhombus, or any other shape(s) as desired. In some exemplary aspects, the location of the slit 121 may be referred to as the inner or rear surface of the hem of the arrangement pocket 120. Although the second panel of material 120 that forms the arrangement pocket 120 in this illustrative embodiment is shown in a substantially rectangular shape, it is contemplated herein that the second panel of material 120 and shape of other arrangement pocket embodiments may be in any other geometric shape or organic shape or any combination of geometric and organic shapes, and the like. Similarly, although the slit 121 in this particular illustrative embodiment is in a substantially rectangular shape, it is contemplated herein that the slit 121 in other embodiments may be in any other geometric shape or organic shape or any combination of geometric and organic shapes, and the like. In some aspects, the second panel of material 120 individually defines the arrangement pocket 120 after having the slit 121 formed into it. The slit 121 cut or otherwise formed into the second panel of material 120 may also comprise a thread around the cut to prevent the slit 121 from fraying and changing the dimensions of the opening and / or deforming the second panel of material 120. In some aspects, the opening 121 may have dimensions ranging from 1mm to 10mm. This may be important to limit and keep the flower, plant, stem, or other small object in a desired and / or aesthetically appealing arrangement position.

[0011] In other aspects of other embodiments similar to the one shown in Fig. 2A, the arrangement pocket 220 may further comprise another opening 220 adjacent each other in the second panel of material on the inner side of the arrangement pocket such that each of the openings 220, 220 are not visible from the frontal view of the apparel (such as that illustrated as a t-shirt in Fig. 2A. Also contemplated herein, in other aspects or embodiments, there may be a plurality of small openings ranging anywhere from 2mm to 6mm formed into the panel or layer of material used to make an arrangement pocket. A second panel of material with at least one fold over itself positioned adjacent and external to the first panel of material so that a surface of the portion of the second panel that has not been overlapped is positioned adjacent to the surface of the first panel of material and the folded portion forming two layers is positioned substantially above the non-overlapped portion;

[0013] In other aspects, a first panel of material which is folded upwardly to form the external surface of the pocket and then downwardly to form the interior hem surface of the pocket which may is used to define compartment adjacent the top edge or main opening 150 of the pocket system 170. FIG. IB illustrates an environmental back perspective view of the arrangement pocket 170 system or construction in accordance with aspects herein. A flower F is shown with a portion of the stem threaded through the small slit 121 that is in communication with a small compartment 130 formed from the folding over itself of the second panel of material 120. The small compartment 130 (see FIGS. 1C-1E) may be formed and defined, in some embodiments, with the use of a thread or a seam line or other affixing means that extends substantially parallel to the left to right of width W1 of the pocket if utilised in substantially rectangular or square-shaped pockets. It is contemplated that the shape of the pocket may be another geometrical shape. In some aspects, the location of the slit 121 may be near the apex or top edge of the arrangement pocket 120 as shown in FIGS. 1 A-1F. It is contemplated herein, that in other embodiments, the location of the slit 121 may be in any position in or on the third surface 125 of the second panel of material 120. The slit 121 may extend from the third surface 125 through to the fourth surface 126. The flower F has a portion of its stem (as shown by the dashed lines) inside the compartment 130 which may be in contact with the optional seam line 141. The optionality of the seam line 141 will be further described below. In other aspects or embodiments without the use of the optional seam line 141, when a user inserts any flower through the slit 121 the stem (if long enough) will just simply extend pass the bottom edge 127 of the second panel of material 120. It is contemplated herein that the apparel item 100 may comprise multiple pocket openings and multiple pocket systems. Any and all aspects, and any variation thereof, are contemplated as being within aspects herein. The small pocket slit 121 may be formed through mechanical cutting, laser cutting, manipulating a knitting or weaving process to form the slit 121, and the like.

[0014] FIG. 1C illustrates a cross-sectional view of the arrangement pocket system 120 taken along cut line 1C-1C of FIG. 1 in accordance with aspects herein. As shown in FIG. 1C, the pocket system 170 comprises a some what triple-layered arrangement having an outer layer formed by the second panel of material 120 that may partially fold over itself and an inner layer 110 joined (by stitching, gluing, or other affixing means) adjacent at a point 140 adjacent end 113 of the first panel of material 110 and end 129 of the second panel of material. Said another way, the pocket system 170 may be said to comprise a triple-layer arrangement at a cross-section that is relatively higher up and near the main or large pocket opening 150 and a double-layer arrangement at another cross-section taken a lower point after the folded layer of the second panel of material 120 has been affixed with itself. In other aspects or embodiments, the pocket system 170 may be substantially or significantly more or less triple-layered, this depends on how much material is used to for third surface 125 which may be lengthened or shorten as desired. In aspects, the second panel of material 120 may be used to form the external surface of the pocket system 120 and may be used to form the small compartment 130 by folding a single layer of material onto itself. It is also contemplated herein, that the pocket system 170 may comprise a single layer of material so that the entire pocket system 170 made be made with a single piece of material (see FIG.1H).

[0016] The external layer or the second panel of material 120 of the arrangement pocket system 170 may have a first surface 123 and a second surface 124 opposite the first surface 123. The second panel of material 120 may be folded onto itself at a top end to form another layer creating a third surface 125 and a forth surface 126 opposite the third surface 125. The pocket system 170 may further include a first panel of material 110 affixed to the second panel of material 120 at various points or edges. In aspects, the points of affixing the panels of materials 110, 120 may include one or more sides or edges partially or extending substantially the entirety. The first panel of material 110 may have a first surface 111 and a second surface 112 opposite the first surface 111. In this example shown, the panels 110, 120 have been affixed at point 140 adjacent a point 113 of the first panel 110 and a point 129 of the second panel. In aspects, the first panel of material may be any portion of the external or front surface of the apparel 100. The third surface 125 of the second panel 120 may be position adjacent the second surface 112 of the first panel 110 near the main opening 150 and the second surface 124 of the second panel 120 may be positioned adjacent the second surface 112 of the first panel 110 to define a space or main pocket between the panels / materials 110 and 120. In aspects, the main pocket may be approximately H2 in height (see FIG. IF)

[0017] Continuing, in exemplary aspects, a bottom edge 129 of the second layer of material 120 of the arrangement pocket 170 may be affixed at a seam line 140 at a point 113 that is apart of the second surface 112 of the first layer of material 110. In other exemplary aspects or embodiments, the point at which the second layer of material 120 is attached to the first layer of material 110 may just be substantially adjacent to the bottom edge 127. In these embodiments, the size of the main pocket space is reduced. It is also contemplated herein, in other embodiments, that the attachment point may be significantly further away from the bottom edge 127 such that the connection point may be said to be inferior to the bottom edge 127 but also superior or above the illustrated connection point 140.

Use of a fine or tightly woven material, such as broadcloth, poplin, oxford, or twill may help to allow users to surprise other people who have not yet seen and become familiar with this function that allows a flower to be arranged in what appears to a regular pocket. Some people like new and / or surprising things, and this arrangement pocket may help benefit the user appear or seem cool or interesting. In other exemplary aspects, the arrangement pocket 120 may be formed of a material with some or substantially different properties to that of the material used in the first panel 110. In some exemplary aspects, the arrangement pocket 120 has an aperture 121 that is intended not to be visible from the frontal view of the shirt 100. This aspect may be achieved in some exemplary embodiments when the aperture or slit 121 is located on the second panel of material 120 that is folded or otherwise manipulated to be behind the front or external or frontally visible portion of the arrangement pocket 120. In some exemplary aspects, the location of the slit 121 may be referred to as the inner or rear surface of the hem portion of the arrangement pocket 120. Although the second panel of material 120 that forms the arrangement pocket 120 in this illustrative embodiment is shown in a substantially rectangular shape, it is contemplated herein that the second panel of material 120 and the shape of other arrangement pocket embodiments may be in any other geometric shape or organic shape or any combination of geometric and organic shapes, and the like. Similarly, although the slit 121 in this particular illustrative embodiment when not in use with a flower is in a substantially rectangular shape, it is contemplated herein that the slit 121 in other embodiments may be in any other geometric shape or organic shape or any combination of geometric and organic shapes, and the like. In some aspects, the second panel of material 120 individually defines the arrangement pocket 120 after having an opening 121 formed into it.

[0020] The opening 121 cut or otherwise formed into the second panel of material 120 may also comprise a thread to prevent the opening 121 from fraying and / or tearing and thereby changing the dimensions of the opening and / or deforming and / or substantially or significantly damaging the function of the opening / slit 121 of the second panel of material 120. In some exemplary aspects, the narrow opening which ranges from 1 millimeter to 8mm provides a substantially more specific position the flower or other plant or other small object can be arranged in relation to the pocket’s main opening. When a user is using this small opening / slit 121 and still wants to use the main or larger compartment of the pocket, this narrow range small opening or slit 121 may help a user position the flower substantially more towards a substantially left or right side of the pocket, thereby helping facilitate easier access into the main or larger compartment without disturbing or altering the arrangement position of the flower. In embodiments that have This narrower opening, when combined with a flexible or stretchable material (e.g., jersey knit, interlock, and the like) and / or with at least some elastic capacity may also in more instances, provide and substantially better holding or securing force because many of the small flowers or plants and their accompanying stems are usually less than 10 millimeters (1cm).

[0021] FIGS. 2A-2C illustrates another embodiment of a pocket system 670 utilised on an apparel 600 that is similar to the pocket system 170 except as described herein below. FIG. 2A depicts an apparel item 600 with a plurality of separate pocket system 670. FIG. 2B depicts a cross-section taken along cut line 2B-2B of FIG. 2 A. Thus, much of the description above with regard to the pocket system 170 is applicable to this embodiment except for the differences specifically described below. In this embodiment, the second panel 620 may be folded over itself an additional time in an upward direction towards a second surface 624. Pocket system 670 having this additional fold of the second panel 670 when compared to pocket system 170 may then be seen to comprise four layers at its thickest point which is adjacent the opening 650 while still having only two layers at cross-sections below the upward fold. This additional fold allows the pocket system 670 to form the compartment 630 without the use of a seam line that extends horizontally in a substantially parallel direction to the top ege created by the generally downward fold of second panel 620. In exemplary aspects, the various folded layers of the second panel 620 may still be affixed to the first panel 610 on the side edges and adjacent a bottom edge 629, similar to that of pocket system 170. FIG. 2Aalso illustrates optional additional side or hip pockets 621B, 621C. In aspects, either of these hip pockets 62 IB, 621C may be attached to the apparel 600 in any of the commonly known means in the art.

[0022] Continuing, in exemplary aspects, when the second panel 620 is rolled as described above there will be a first surface 623 facing and visible from the front of the pocket system 670 or the apparel item 600 it has been attached externally to, there may also be an opposite second surface 624 which will be adjacent a sixth surface 628. The pocket system 670 may further comprise of a third surface 625 adjacent a second surface 612 of the first panel 610, a fourth surface 626 opposite the third surface 625, and a fifth surface 627 of the second panel 620 that is opposite the sixth surface 628. First and second panels 610 and 620 maybe be affixed at a point via a seam 640 or other joining means adjacent respective edges 613 and 629.

[0023] FIG. 2C depicts a perspective cross-sectional environmental view with first panel cut away to more clearly show the rear side of second panel 620 of the pocket system 670. In this illustration one may be able to see how the additional fold of the second panel 620 defines the compartment 630 and provided the material for the flower stem to be in contact with and to prevent falling further down with may impact the visibility of the flower and deviate it from an optimal frontally viewed angle. This feature allows any apparel item with this embodiment to have pockets without having a hem or seam line extending substantially horizontally near the opening or apex of any such pocket through the material used to create the external surface of the pocket. The dashed line portion of the flower stem is used to show that section of the stem is behind the third surface 625 of the second panel 620 and therefore hidden from normal sight. In exemplary aspects, the pocket system 670 may also optionally further comprise an additional slit 63 IB for the arrangement of another flower or add another angle of arrangement available to the user when used in combination with slit 631.

[0024] Similary, in exemplary aspects, the pocket system 670 may also optionally have a larger slot 632 (shown in dashed lines because it is hidden from this view) located substantially more on the second panel 620 after it has been folded upwards and thus may be more substantially located on or in the fifth and sixth surfaces 627 and 628 to provide a more accessible means clean the compartment 630 if any parts of plants breaks off and gets confined inside the space. It is contemplated herein that the larger slit 632 may be positioned on the third surface 625 or even any point of curvatures (apex or bottom) on the second panel 620. Referring to FIG. 3 A, another embodiment of an arrangement pocket system 770 is illustrated in a rear perspective view with a portion of the fiBrst panel 710 cut away to show the inner side of the second panel and a mesh layer 760.

[0025] The pocket system 770 is similar to the pocket system 170 of FIGS. 1 A-1C except that instead of using the slit 121 as the opening capable of recieving a small object, a mesh layer 760 is used for the recieving and semi-securing or releasably holding or connecting the small object, such as a flower (or part of a plant). The mesh 760 may be affixed via stiching, adhesives, or the like, to the third surface 725 of the second panel 720. Thus, the slit 121 which are featured in pocket system 170 is omitted in this embodiment and other embodiments like it. FIG. 3B depicts a cross-sectional view of the pocket system 770 taken along cut line 3B-3B of FIG. The mesh 760 may be affixed on the top or side edges to the third surface 725. 3 A and illustrates the similar structure to that of pocket system 170 except that it has a mesh 760 attached to second panel 720 which positions the mesh 760 adjacent the first panel 710 and an opening 750.

These inner surface located slits 521 A, 521B positioned adjacent the pocket opening have been illustrated with the use of dashed lines, opening It is contemplated that in other embodiments, either of the slits 521 A or 521B may be positioned on the outward or external surface of the shorts or other lower or upper torso garment. In other embodiments and / or aspects, a garment may only consist of one arrangement pocket system in a similar or any of the illustrated positions or pockets shown in the example FIG. 5 A. Similar to the construction of the pocket system 220 of the apparel item 200, a second layer of material 520 is positioned on a surface of the first layer of material 510, but instead of being on the external surface as shown in apparel item 200, in this embodiment for a waist pocket, the second layer of material 520 will be position on the rear surface of the first layer 510 adjacent each respective pocket opening 550. The position of attachment of the first layer of material 510 and second layer of material 510 may also be different in a way such that in some exemplary aspects a side or edge of the second layer of material 520 that is substantially aligned or in close proximity with the first layer of material 510 that defines pocket opening 550 are connected with with thread, seam line, adhesive, or the like. It is also contemplated herein that the pocket system 120 of the apparel item 100 may also be used, this pocket system 120 would require an additional step of a seam line or other commonly known attaching means to form the small compartment or pocket which the small slit 521 A or 521B would be in communication with.

CLAIMSWhat is claimed is:

1. An apparel item comprising:A first panel of material;A second panel of material with at least one fold over itself positioned adjacent and external to the first panel of material so that a surface of the portion of the second panel that has not been overlapped is positioned adjacent to the surface of the first panel of material and the folded portion forming two layers is positioned substantially above the non-overlapped portion;Wherein the portion of the second panel which has been folded comprises a slit in the surface that is in communication with the compartment formed between the outer layer of the second panel and the folded inner layer of the second panel.
