Abstract
Description
[0001] A HERBICIDAL COMBINATION
[0002] FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE:
[0003] The present disclosure relates to a herbicidal combination comprising a carbamate herbicide and a chlorotriazine herbicide. Furthermore, the present disclosure relates to a method for controlling weeds by applying an effective amount of the herbicidal combination thereof.
[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE:
[0005] Herbicides are chemical substances, which are used to control unwanted plants / weeds. The mode of action for herbicides is a biochemical or a physical mechanism, which disrupts or alters one or more of the metabolic processes of the unwanted plants / weed, thereby controlling their growth. Therefore, when and how any herbicide should be applied may be determined by the mode of action of the herbicide.
[0006] Furthermore, there are certain species or groups of unwanted plants / weeds, which are susceptible to certain herbicides and not susceptible to certain herbicides. This may be because either the herbicides use different biochemical pathways, or the herbicides have slightly different enzymes. In situations, when one herbicide is ineffective, additional herbicide(s) with different modes of action may provide better results.
[0007] Asulam, also known as methyl A-(4-aminophenyl)sulfonylcarbamate), is a broadspectrum carbamate herbicide. Asulam is a plant growth inhibitor which inhibits folate synthesis by suppression of dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS) in plants. The structure of asulam is represented as:
[0008]
[0009] Asulam is especially useful for post-emergence control of perennial grasses in crops such as sugarcane, soybean, cotton, etc. It provides effective control for a wide variety of herbicide-resistant and herbicide-tolerant weeds while reducing phyto toxicity in crops.
[0010] Terbuthylazine (also called as terbutylazine) is a pre-emergence and postemergence herbicide for the control of annual broadleaf weeds and partially of grasses. Terbuthylazine is a photosynthesis inhibitor, particularly photosystem II inhibitor and its mode of action is to inhibit the Hill reaction and CO2 sorption in the photosynthesis.
[0011] Furthermore, herbicidal combinations known in the art usually have some disadvantages. They have none or insufficient herbicidal activity against specific unwanted plants / weeds, the spectrum of unwanted plants / weeds which can be controlled with the herbicides is not broad enough, the selectivity and compatibility of the herbicides with crops is too low, thereby causing unwanted damage and / or reduced yield of the crops, the initial herbicidal activity is not acceptable or not strong enough, and / or the herbicidal activity does not last long enough. For these reasons, there is a constant need to develop herbicidal combinations which overcome the aforementioned disadvantages. There also exists a need for an environmentally safe herbicidal combination that can selectively control unwanted plants / weeds, while leaving other plants and crops unharmed. OBJECTIVES OF THE DISCLOSURE:
[0012] It is a primary objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination for controlling or preventing unwanted plants / weeds in crops.
[0013] It is another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination for efficient weed control, weed suppression and weed eradication.
[0014] It is another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination possessing enhanced efficacy over the individual herbicides.
[0015] It is yet another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination comprising highly effective herbicidal actives for selective and non-selective weed control.
[0016] It is another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination comprising highly effective herbicidal actives for an efficient bum-down program.
[0017] It is yet another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination to control, suppress or prevent a wide spectrum of weeds comprising both dicotyledonous and monocotyledonous, broad-leaved, and grassy weeds.
[0018] It is yet another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination which is safe to use, effective and can be applied pre-emergence, postemergence or at the time of sowing.
[0019] It is another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination achieving increased yield in the crops to which they are applied, by reducing the number of weeds in the crops. Additionally, it is an objective of the present disclosure to provide a method of controlling resistant varieties of weeds with a herbicidal combination or a composition comprising such a combination.

According to an embodiment, the kit of parts comprises:
[0110] at least one carbamate herbicide;
[0111] at least one chlorotriazine herbicide;
[0112] and optionally further comprises:
[0113] instructions for use.
[0114] In an embodiment, the herbicidal combination comprising a carbamate herbicide and a chlorotriazine herbicide may provide synergistic control for weeds at pre-emergent and / or at post-emergent stage. In another embodiment, the herbicidal combination is synergistic and effective in improving yield of desired crop by controlling weeds. The herbicidal combination also provides increase in crop yield and crop quality.

[0117] Examples
[0118] Example 1:
[0119] Asulam 400 SL and terbutylazine 500 SC were tank mixed and efficacy against Spermacoce densiflora, Eleusine indica and Digitaria insularis was observed. The trial was conducted in greenhouse conditions, in a plot of 20 x 45 cm.
[0120] Foliar application was done on potted weeds post-emergence at following BBCH stage:
[0121] Eleusine indica - BBCH 27 - Seven tillers Digitaria insularis - BBCH 24 - Four tillers
[0122] Spermacoce densiflora - BBCH 16 - Six pairs leaves
[0123] % Weed control was determined at 21, 28 and 35 DAA (days after first application) for Spermacoce densiflora and Digitaria insularis', while % weed control was determined at 28 and 35 DAA (days after first application) for Eleusine indica. The expected efficacy was evaluated by Colby’s method
[0124] The expected efficacy of a combination of asulam and tembotrione was calculated using the well-established Colby method. Any difference between the observed and “expected” efficacy could be attributed to synergy between the two compounds. In the Colby method, the expected (or predicted) response of a combination of herbicides is calculated by taking the product of the observed response for each individual component of the combination when applied alone, divided by 100, and subtracting this value from the sum of the observed response for each component when applied alone. An unexpected enhancement in efficacy of the combination is then determined by comparing the observed response of the combination to the expected (or predicted) response as calculated from the observed response of each individual component alone. If the observed response of the combination is greater than the expected (or predicted) response, or stated conversely, if the difference between the observed and expected response is greater than zero, then the combination is said to be synergistic or unexpectedly effective (Colby, S. R., Weeds, 1967(15), p. 20-22). The Colby method requires only a single dose of each herbicide applied alone and the mixture of both doses. The formula used to calculate the expected efficacy (EE) which was compared with the observed efficacy (OE) to determine the efficacy of the present invention is explained hereinbelow:
[0125] The expected efficacy for a combination of two active ingredients is as follows:
[0126] EE = (A + B - (A x B) / 100) The expected efficacy for a combination of three active ingredients is as follows:
[0127] EE = A + B + C - (AB + AC + BC) / 100 + ABC / 10,000
[0128] Where,
[0129] A = Observed efficacy of active ingredient A at the same concentration as used in the mixture.
[0130] B = Observed efficacy of the active ingredient B at the same concentration as used in the mixture.
[0131] C = Observed efficacy of the active ingredient C at the same concentration as used in the mixture.
[0132] In current example, the following formula was applied
[0133] EE = (A + B - (A x B) / 100)
[0134] Wherein, EE is expected efficacy of combination of asulam and terbutylazine A is observed efficacy of asulam alone
[0135] B is observed efficacy of terbutylazine alone
[0136] Table 1: % weed control of Spermacoce densiflora
[0137]
[0138] Table 2: % weed control of Digitaria insularis
[0139]
[0140] Table 3: % weed control of Eleusine indica
[0141]
[0142] From tables 1 - 3 it is observed that the combination of asulam and terbuthylazine demonstrated more-than-additive control of weeds as compared to the addition of individual control efficacy of asulam and terbuthylazine.
