Abstract

The invention relates to a projectile (10), in particular a medium-caliber projectile for mobile and static aircraft, naval and tank guns, comprising: - a plurality of subprojectiles (12) which each have a longitudinal axis S and a shape which is substantially cylindrically symmetrical about said longitudinal axis; - a casing (14) having a payload chamber (16) which extends substantially coaxially with respect to a longitudinal axis G of the projectile (10) and in which the subprojectiles (12) are accommodated; wherein - in a first plane extending substantially at right angles to the longitudinal axis G, the subprojectiles (12) are arranged rotationally symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis G in such a way that no subprojectile (12) is located on the longitudinal axis G. In order to improve the utilization of the predefined payload chamber in such a projectile (10), the following is provided: - the number N1 of subprojectiles (12) is defined by N1 = 3n1, where n_1 is a positive integer; and - the subprojectiles (12) are arranged in the densest possible packing configuration with threefold rotational symmetry with respect to the longitudinal axis G, in such a way that each subprojectile (12) is in contact with at least two adjacent sub-projectiles (12).
