AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Optical connectors with rotational directionality face challenges in maintaining low connection loss while avoiding high manufacturing costs due to the need for precise alignment and high outer shape accuracy of components, leading to increased processing complexity and costs.

Method used

An optical connector design featuring a retaining component with a reference surface in contact with the ferrule's inner wall, an elastic component inserted between the retaining component and the ferrule's inner wall, and a method of assembly that includes press-fitting the elastic component to ensure stable optical fiber alignment, reducing the need for strict shape accuracy.

Benefits of technology

The design effectively suppresses connection loss and maintains manufacturing cost efficiency by allowing for flexible alignment without stringent shape accuracy requirements, thus reducing processing complexity and costs.

Abstract

This optical connector comprises: a plurality of optical fibers that have rotational directionality; a holding component that holds the plurality of optical fibers; a ferrule that has a plurality of fiber holes through which the plurality of optical fibers are inserted, and an accommodation space which communicates with the plurality of fiber holes and accommodates the holding component; and an elastic component that has a leading end disposed in the accommodation space. The accommodation space is demarcated by an inner wall surface of the ferrule. The holding component has a reference surface and an opposite surface located on the opposite side from the reference surface with the plurality of optical fibers interposed therebetween. The reference surface is in surface contact with the inner wall surface. At least part of the opposite surface is apart from the inner wall surface, and at least part of the elastic component is inserted between the opposite surface and the inner wall surface.
