Description

COMMUNCIATION METHOD, COMMUNICATION APPARATUS, AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

[0001] This application claims priority to United States of America Provisional Application No. 63 / 762,432, filed on February 24, 2025 and entitled “METHOD AND APPARATUS ON SYNCHRONIZATION FOR POWER SAVING” , which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.TECHNICAL FIELD

[0002] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communication. Particularly, it relates to a communication method, a communication apparatus, and a communication system.BACKGROUND

[0003] In a wireless network, if a user equipment (UE) powers on or wakes up from a power saving mode, the UE may search a synchronization signal block (SSB) signal from a network node for synchronization. To support a transmission or detection of the SSB signal, a transceiver of the network node or the UE may need to perform both analog and digital processing with sophisticated encoding or decoding. Therefore, the power consumption of the network node or the UE is quite large.

[0004] Therefore, how to save power of a network node and a UE in a synchronization procedure is needed to be solved in this application.SUMMARY

[0005] This present disclosure provides a communication method, a communication apparatus, and a communication system used to save power for a network node and a UE.

[0006] According to a first aspect, a communication method is described. The method may be applied at a terminal node, for example, a terminal node or a module in a terminal node, a circuit or a chip (for example, a modem (modem) chip, also referred to as a baseband (baseband) chip, or a system on chip (system on chip, SoC) chip or a system in package (system in package, SIP) chip that includes a modem core) that is responsible for a communication function in a terminal node. For example, the method is applied to a terminal node.

[0007] In this method, the terminal node receives a first synchronization signal that is one of a plurality of synchronization signals in a synchronization signal burst. The plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst are associated with a plurality of synchronization sequences. And the terminal node transmits or receives a communication signal at a time-frequency resource. The time-frequency resource is associated with the first synchronization signal

[0008] In the foregoing method, the terminal node receives a first synchronization signal which is one of a plurality of synchronization signals in a synchronization signal burst. The first synchronization signal is a simplified synchronization signal associated with a synchronization sequence and is associated with a time-frequency resource used for the incoming communication signal. As such, the terminal node may determine the time-frequency resource more easily. And the simplified synchronization signal is suitable for a low power transceiver in both the network node and the terminal node.

[0009] In a possible design, each of the plurality of synchronization signals being associated with one synchronization sequence from the plurality of synchronization sequences respectively, or at least two of plurality of synchronization signals being associated with a same synchronization sequence from the plurality of synchronization sequences.

[0010] As such, each of different synchronization signals corresponding to a unique synchronization sequence relative to each SSB including unchangeable PSS and SSS may give help for the terminal node to perform synchronization process with a simplified synchronization signal. Or, a same synchronization sequence can be used to generate at least two synchronization signals.

[0011] In some implementations, a relationship between different synchronization signals in the plurality of synchronization signals and different synchronization sequences in the plurality of synchronization sequences is one-to-one.

[0012] In other words, each of the plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst is uniquely associated with a synchronization sequence among the different synchronization sequences. Or, the number of the plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst is equal to the number of the different synchronization sequences.

[0013] In a possible design, the plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst is associated with different synchronization signal indices that indicate an order of synchronization signal transmissions in the synchronization signal burst.

[0014] As such, the synchronization signal indices may help the terminal node to determine the time information of the different synchronization signals so that the synchronization signal can at least be very simply to save power.

[0015] In a possible design, each of the plurality of synchronization signals is associated uniquely with a synchronization signal index among the different synchronization signal indices.

[0016] As such, each of the plurality of synchronization signals corresponds to a unique synchronization index may help the terminal node to determine the time information of each of the plurality of synchronization signals more accurately.

[0017] In a possible design, the first synchronization signal indicates at least one of communication direction of the first synchronization signal in the synchronization burst, or timing information for the transmitting or receiving the communication signal.

[0018] In a possible design, the timing information comprises at least one of symbol timing, slot timing or frame timing.

[0019] As such, the first synchronization signal indicates the communication direction in the synchronization signal burst and / or the timing information for the communication signal, so that the first synchronization may involve in only analog signal processing. And the simplified synchronization signal may contribute to low power transceiver in both a network node or a terminal node.

[0020] In a possible design, the plurality of synchronization signals is associated with frequency domain resource information.

[0021] In a possible design, the frequency domain resource information comprises one or more of a component carrier, an anchored component carrier, signal bandwidth or a reference frequency.

[0022] As such, the plurality of synchronization signals may be associated with a predefined or pre-configured frequency domain resource so that the terminal node may easily and accurately perform a blind search to obtain the first synchronization signal.

[0023] In a possible design, the time-frequency resource is associated with the first synchronization signal comprises: a time domain location of the time-frequency resource of the communication signal is determined based on a time domain resource of the first synchronization signal and a time offset relative to the time domain resource of the first synchronization signal. The timing information includes the time offset.

[0024] As such, a time location of a resource used for communication signal can be easily determined based on the first synchronization signal and a time offset relative to the time domain resource of the first synchronization signal.

[0025] In a possible design, the communication signal is an uplink signal; or the communication signal is a downlink signal.

[0027] As such, the terminal node may quickly synchronize and access to the network node because the first synchronization signal, which is a simplified synchronization signal, correspond to a unique synchronization sequence. Other information related to the network node can be transmitted after the first synchronization signal. The power of the terminal mode and the network node can be saved.

[0028] In a possible design, the downlink signal further comprises a configuration of random access channel (RACH) information.

[0029] In a possible design, the terminal node further transmits an uplink communication signal to perform an initial access procedure based on configuration of the RACH information.

[0030] In a possible design, the downlink signal further comprises paging related information.

[0031] In a possible design, the terminal node further transmits a measurement report via the uplink signal based on measuring the first synchronization signal.

[0032] According to a second aspect, a communication method is described. The method may be applied at a network node, for example, a network node or a module in a network node, a circuit or a chip (for example, a modem (modem) chip, also referred to as a baseband (baseband) chip, or a system on chip (system on chip, SoC) chip or a system in package (system in package, SIP) chip that includes a modem core) that is responsible for a communication function in a network node. For example, the method is applied to a network node.

[0033] In this method, the network node transmits a first synchronization signal that is one of a plurality of synchronization signals in a synchronization signal burst. The plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst are associated with a plurality of synchronization sequences. And the network node receives or transmits a communication signal at a time-frequency resource. The time-frequency resource is associated with the first synchronization signal.

[0034] The technical effect of the technical solution in the second aspect can refer to that in the first aspect.

[0035] In a possible design, that the plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst are associated with a plurality of synchronization sequences includes each of the plurality of synchronization signals being associated with one synchronization sequence from the plurality of synchronization sequences respectively, or at least two of plurality of synchronization signals being associated with a same synchronization sequence from the plurality of synchronization sequences.

[0036] In some implementations, a relationship between different synchronization signals in the plurality of synchronization signals and different synchronization sequence in the plurality of synchronization sequences is one-to-one.

[0037] In a possible design, the plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst is associated with different synchronization signal indices that indicate an order of synchronization signal transmissions in the synchronization signal burst.

[0038] In a possible design, each of the plurality of synchronization signals is associated uniquely with a synchronization signal index among the different synchronization signal indices.

[0039] In a possible design, the first synchronization signal indicates at least one of communication direction of the first synchronization signal in the synchronization burst, or timing information for the transmitting or receiving the communication signal.

[0043] In a possible design, that the time-frequency resource is associated with the first synchronization signal includes that a time domain location of the time-frequency resource of the communication signal is determined based on a time domain resource of the first synchronization signal and a time offset relative to the time domain resource of the first synchronization signal. The timing information includes the time offset.

[0044] In a possible design, the communication signal is an uplink signal; or the communication signal is a downlink signal.

[0078] FIG. 1 is a schematic illustration of an example communication system according to an implementation of the present disclosure, there is shown a communication system 100 that includes a radio access network (RAN) 120, one or more communication electronic devices (EDs) 10a, 110b, 110c, 110d, 110e, 110f, 110g, 110h, 110i, 110j (collectively referred to as 110) , a core network 130, a public switched telephone network (PSTN) 140, the Internet 150, and other networks 160 . The RAN 120 may include, but is not limited to, a future generation RAN, or a legacy RAN such as, but not limited to, 5th generation (5G) , 4th generation (4G) , 3rd generation (3G) or 2nd generation (2G) radio access network. The RAN 120 may be, for example, an Evolved universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) , a NextGen RAN (NG RAN) , or some other type of RAN. Examples of RAN 120 based on the evolution of telecommunications standards include, but is not limited to, GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and code division multiple access (CDMA) for 2G, universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) based on wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) and CDMA2000 for 3G, long-term evolution (LTE) and WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) for 4G, and new radio (NR) for 5G. In some implementations, The RAN 120 may use any radio access technology (RAT) in the wireless interface between the one or more EDs 110 and the RAN 120. In some implementations, the term “radio access” may refer to the future generation air interface standards which may include both terrestrial networks (TNs) and non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) . These networks will be described in greater detail below in conjunction with various implementations. The one or more communication EDs 110 (also referred to as “user equipment” ) are configured to connect (e.g., communicatively couple) with each other or to one or more network nodes 170a, 170b (collectively referred to as 170) in the RAN 120. The core network (CN) 130 is a part of the communication system 100 and consists of network nodes (e.g., 170a , 170b) which provide support for the network features and telecommunication services. In some implementations, the CN 130 may be dependent on the RAT used in the communication system 100. In other implementations, the CN 130 may be access-agnostic, i.e., the CN 130 may be independent of the RAT used in the communication system 100. There are different types of CN 130, for different 3GPP system generations. For example, the CN 130 is the evolved packet core (EPC) in 4G, also known as the evolved packet system (EPS) . In another example, the CN 130 is the 5G Core (5GC) which was developed as part of the 5G System (5GS) . The CN 130 also enables integration of different 3GPP and non-3GPP access types. In some implementations and referring to FIG. 1, the CN 130 also provides the interface towards external networks that may include the PSTN 140, the Internet 150, and other networks 160 in the communication system 100.

[0079] In general, the communication system 100 facilitates interaction between multiple wireless or wired elements. The communication system 100 may transmit different types of content, such as voice, data, video, and / or text, through different transmission methods such as, but not limited to, broadcast, multicast, groupcast, and unicast. Additionally, the communication system 100 operates by allocating and / or sharing resources, such as carrier spectrum bandwidth, among its constituent elements.

[0080] The communication system 100 may provide a wide range of communication services and applications including, but not limited to, Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) services, ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) services, Massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC) services, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) , immersive communication, Ultra-massive Machine-Type Communication (uMTC) , hyper reliable and low-latency communication, ubiquitous connectivity, integrated AI and communication, and other services that can be provided by a future generation communication system. The communication system 100 may provide other services and applications such as, but not limited to, earth monitoring, remote sensing, passive sensing and positioning, navigation and tracking, autonomous delivery and mobility and the like.

[0081] The communication system 100 may include a terrestrial communication system (or network) and / or a non-terrestrial communication system (or network) . The communication system 100 may provide a high degree of availability and robustness through a joint operation of the terrestrial communication system and the non-terrestrial communication system. For example, integrating a non-terrestrial communication system (or components thereof) into a terrestrial communication system can result in a heterogeneous network comprising multiple layers. The heterogeneous network may achieve better overall performance through efficient multi-link joint operation, more flexible functionality sharing, and faster physical layer link switching between terrestrial networks and non-terrestrial networks. The terrestrial communication system and the non-terrestrial communication system could be considered as sub-systems of the communication system 100.

[0082] FIG. 2 illustrates another example communication system 100 according to an implementation of the present disclosure, there is shown the communication system 100 includes EDs 110a, 110b, 110c, 110d (collectively referred to as ED 110) , RANs 120a, 120b, one or more CNs 130, a PSTN 140, the Internet 150, and other networks 160. Additionally, the communication system 100 may also include a non-terrestrial network (NTN) 120c. The RANs 120a and120b may include network nodes 170a and 170b respectively. Examples of network nodes 170a, 170b include base stations, which can be generally referred to as terrestrial network (TN) devices or terrestrial transmit and receive points (T-TRPs) 170a and 170b (collectively referred to as 170) . In this context, the terms "TRP" and "base station" are used interchangeably unless otherwise specified. For simplicity, this disclosure primarily refers to network nodes as base stations; however, unless explicitly stated otherwise, references to TRP are considered non-limiting and interchangeable. The T-TRPs 170a, 170b may be base stations mounted on a building or tower. In one implementation, the NTN 120c includes a RAN node such as a base station 172, which may be generally referred to as an NTN device, a non-terrestrial node, a non-terrestrial network device, a non-terrestrial base station, or a non-terrestrial transmit and receive point (NT-TRP) 172.

[0083] In some implementations, the NT-TRP 172 is not attached to the ground, for example, as in the case of an airborne base station. An airborne base station may be implemented using communication equipment supported or carried by a flying device. For example, a flying device may include, but is not limited to, an airborne platform (such as a blimp or an airship) , balloon, drone (such as quadcopter) , and other types of aerial vehicles. In some implementations, an airborne base station may be supported or carried by an unmanned aerial system (UAS) or an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) , such as a drone. An airborne base station may be a moveable or mobile base station that can be flexibly deployed in different locations to meet network demand. A satellite base station is another example of a non-terrestrial base station. A satellite base station may be implemented using communication equipment supported or carried by a satellite. A satellite base station may also be referred to as an orbiting base station. High altitude platforms are yet another example of non-terrestrial base stations, including international mobile telecommunication base stations.

[0084] As referred to herein, and unless specified otherwise, a “TRP” may also refer to a T-TRP or an NT-TRP, a “T-TRP” may also refer to a “TN TRP” , and an “NT-TRP” may also refer to an “NTN TRP” . The NTN 120c may be considered a RAN, sharing operational aspects with RANs 120a, 120b. The NTN 120c may include at least one NTN device and at least one corresponding terrestrial network device. The at least one NTN device may function as a transport layer device and the at least one corresponding terrestrial network device may function as a RAN node, communicating with the ED 110 via the NTN device. Additionally, there may be an NTN gateway on the ground (referred to as a terrestrial network device) that also functions as a transport layer device facilitating communication with both the NTN device and the RAN node. The RAN node may communicate with the ED 110 via the NTN device and the NTN gateway. In some implementations, the NTN gateway and the RAN node may be located within the same device.

[0085] A base station 170 (also referred to as a TRP as stated above) is a network element within a radio access network responsible for radio transmission and reception in one or more cells to or from the ED (such as a user equipment) . In different implementations, the base station 170 may also be known as a base transceiver station (BTS) , a radio base station, a network node, a network device, a device on the network side, a transmit / receive node, a Node B, an evolved NodeB (eNodeB or eNB) , a Home eNodeB, a next Generation NodeB (gNB) , a transmission point (TP) , a site controller, an access point (AP) , a wireless router, a relay station, a terrestrial node, a terrestrial network device, a terrestrial base station, a non-terrestrial node, a non-terrestrial network device, a non-terrestrial base station, and a positioning node, among other possibilities. The base station 170 may be a macro base station (BS) , a pico BS, a relay node, a donor node, or combinations thereof. When the base station 170 performs (or is configured to perform) a method described herein, it may be interpreted as the base station itself, one or more modules (or units) in the base station, a circuit or chip, or a combination thereof, performing the method. For example, the circuit or chip may include a modem chip, also referred to as a baseband chip, a system on chip (SoC) including a modem core, system in package (SIP) ) , and the like, and may be responsible for one or more communication functions within the base station.

[0086] The EDs 110a-110d and TRPs 170a-170b, 172 are examples of communication equipment configured to implement some or all of the operations and / or implementations described herein. The T-TRP 170a forms part of the RAN 120a, which may include other TRPs, and / or other devices. Also, the TRP 170b forms part of the RAN 120b, which may include other TRPs, and / or devices. Each TRP 170a, 170b may transmit and / or receive wireless signals within a particular geographic region or area, sometimes referred to as a “cell” or a “coverage area” . The TRPs 170a-170b may be responsible for allocating and / or configuring resources and transmission and / or reception in a set of cell (s) . A cell is a radio network object that can be uniquely identified by a cell identification that is broadcasted over a geographical region or area from base stations associated with the cell. A cell can work in either FDD or TDD mode. A cell may be further divided into cell sectors, and a base station 170a-170b may, for example, employ one or more transceivers to provide services to one or more sectors. Some implementations, may include pico or femto cells if supported by the radio access technology. In some implementations, one or more transceivers could be used for each cell, such as with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology. The number of RANs 120a-120b shown is merely an example. Any number of RANs may be contemplated when designing the communication system 100.

[0087] A base station may be a single element, as shown in the figures, or multiple elements distributed throughout the corresponding RAN, or otherwise configured. In some implementations, a plurality of RAN nodes coordinates to assist the ED 110 in implementing radio access, and different RAN nodes separately implement and handle different functions of the base station. For example, the RAN node may be a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a CU-control plane (CP) , a CU-user plane (UP) , or a radio unit (RU) etc. The CU and the DU may be separately deployed, or included within the same element (i.e., a baseband unit (BBU) ) . The RU may be included in a radio frequency device or a radio frequency unit (i.e., a remote radio unit (RRU) , an active antenna unit (AAU) , or a remote radio head (RRH) ) . In different systems, the CU (or the CU-CP and the CU-UP) , the DU, or the RU may be known by different names, but their functions are understood by person skilled in the art. For example, in an open radio access network (ORAN) system, a CU may be referred to as an open CU (O-CU) , a DU may be referred to as an open DU (O-DU) , and a CU-CP may be referred to as an open CU-CP (O-CU-CP) . The CU-UP may also be referred to as an open CU-UP (O-CU-UP) , and the RU may also be referred to as an open RU (O-RU) . Any one of the CU (or the CU-CP, the CU-UP) , the DU, and the RU may be implemented using a software module, a hardware module, or a combination of a software module and a hardware module.

[0088] Furthermore, communication between different devices / apparatuses in various implementations of this disclosure may refer to direct communication (that is, without the need of forwarding by another device / apparatus) , or may refer to communication (s) between different devices / apparatuses via another device / apparatus (that is, requiring forwarding by another device / apparatus) . Alternatively, such communication (s) may involve one functional unit inside a device / apparatus using another functional unit within the device / apparatus to communicate with another device / apparatus. In other words, phrases such as "sending (or transmitting) information to. . . (an ED or a base station) " in this disclosure may be understood as a destination endpoint of the information being an ED or a base station, including, sending / transmitting information directly or indirectly to an ED or a base station. Similarly, phrases like "receiving information from. . . (an ED or a base station) " may be understood as a source endpoint of the information being an ED or a base station, including directly or indirectly receiving information from an ED or a base station. Between the source endpoint that sends the information and the destination endpoint, necessary processing such as, but not limited to, format conversion, digital-to-analog conversion, amplification, and filtering may be performed on the information. However, the destination endpoint may understand valid information from the source endpoint. A similar understanding applies to other descriptions in this disclosure without reiterating details already described. In the present disclosure, the terms "send" and "transmit" may be used interchangeably in different implementations of this disclosure.

[0089] The ED 110 is used to connect people, objects, machines, and other entities. The ED 110 may be widely used in various scenarios including, but not limited to, cellular communications, device-to-device (D2D) , vehicle to everything (V2X) , peer-to-peer (P2P) , machine-to-machine (M2M) , MTC, internet of things (IoT) , virtual reality (VR) , augmented reality (AR) , mixed reality (MR) , metaverse, digital twin, industrial control, self-driving, remote medical, smart grid, smart furniture, smart office, smart wearable, smart transportation, smart city, drones, robots, remote sensing, passive sensing, positioning, navigation and tracking, and autonomous delivery and mobility.

[0090] Each ED 110 represents any suitable end user device for wireless operation and may include such devices (or may be referred to as, but not limited to) a user equipment (UE) or a user device or a terminal device, a wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) , a mobile station, a fixed or mobile subscriber unit, a cellular telephone, a station (STA) , an MTC device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , a smartphone, a laptop, a computer, a tablet, a wireless sensor, a consumer electronics device, a smart book, a vehicle, a car, a truck, a bus, a train, or an IoT device, wearable devices (such as a watch, a pair of glasses, head mounted equipment, etc. ) , an industrial device, or an apparatus (such as a module, modem, or chip) in the forgoing devices, among other possibilities. Future generation EDs 110 may be referred to by other terms. When an ED 110 performs (or is configured to perform) a method described herein, it may be interpreted as the ED itself, one or more modules (or units) in the ED, a circuit or chip, or a combination thereof, performing the method. For example, the circuit or chip may include a modem chip, also referred to as a baseband chip, a system on chip (SoC) including a modem core, or system in package (SIP) ) , and the like, and may be responsible for one or more communication functions in the ED.

[0091] Each ED 110 connected to TRPs 170a-170b, and / or TRPs 172 can be dynamically or semi-statically turned-on (i.e., established, activated, or enabled) , turned-off (i.e., released, deactivated, or disabled) and / or configured in response to one of more of: connection availability and connection necessity.

[0092] Any ED 110 may be alternatively or additionally configured to interface, access, or communicate with any of the TRPs 170a, 170b and 172, the Internet 150, the CN 130, the PSTN 140, the other networks 160, or any combination thereof. In some examples, the ED 110a may communicate an uplink (UL) and / or downlink (DL) transmission over a terrestrial air interface 190a with station-TRP 170a. In some examples, the EDs 110a, 110b, 110c, and 110d may also communicate directly with one another via one or more sidelink (SL) air interfaces 190b. In some examples, the EDs 110a, 110d may communicate using an UL and / or DL transmission over a non-terrestrial air interface 190c with NT-TRP 172.

[0093] An air interface (such as, for example, 190a, 190b, 190c) generally includes a number of components and associated parameters that collectively specify how a transmission is to be sent and / or received over a wireless communications link between two or more communicating devices such as EDs and base station (s) . For example, an air interface may include one or more components defining the waveform (s) , frame structure (s) , multiple access scheme (s) , protocol (s) , coding scheme (s) and / or modulation scheme (s) for conveying information (such as, data) over a wireless communications link. The air interfaces 190a and 190b may use similar communication technology, that may include any suitable radio access technology.

[0094] The non-terrestrial air interface 190c can enable communication between the EDs 110a, 110d and one or more NT-TRPs 172 via a wireless link or simply a link. For some examples, the link is a dedicated connection for unicast transmission, a connection for broadcast transmission, or a connection between a group of EDs 110 and one or more NT-TRPs 172 for multicast transmission.

[0095] The TRPs 170a-170b, 172 may communicate with one another over one or more air interfaces 190e, 190f using wireless communication links (such as radio frequency (RF) , microwave, infrared (IR) , etc. ) or wired communication links. The air interfaces 190e, 190f may utilize any suitable radio access technology, and may be substantially similar to the air interfaces 190a, 190c over which the EDs 110a-110d communicate with one or more of the TRP 170a-170b, 172 or they may be substantially different. For example, the communication system 100 may implement one or more channel access methods, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , code division multiple access (CDMA) , Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) , Low Density Signature Multicarrier Code Division Multiple Access (LDS-MC-CDMA) , non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) , pattern division multiple access (PDMA) , lattice partition multiple access (LPMA) , resource spread multiple access (RSMA) , and sparse code multiple access (SCMA) .

[0096] The RANs 120a and 120b are in communication with the CN 130 to provide the EDs 110a 110b, and 110c with various services such as voice, data, multimedia, and other services. The RANs 120a and 120b and / or the CN 130 may be in direct or indirect communication with one or more other RANs (not shown) , which may or may not be directly served by the CN 130, and may employ different radio access technologies from RAN 120a and / or RAN 120b. The CN 130 may also serve as a gateway access between (i) the RANs 120a and 120b and / or the EDs 110a 110b, and 110c, and (ii) other networks (such as the PSTN 140, the Internet 150, and the other networks 160) . In addition, some or all of the EDs 110a 110b, and 110c may include functionality for communicating with different wireless networks over different wireless links using different wireless technologies and / or protocols. For example, the EDs 110a 110b, and 110c communicate using different cellular communications protocols, such as, but not limited to, a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) protocol, a code-division multiple access (CDMA) network protocol, a Push-to-Talk (PTT) protocol, a PTT over Cellular (POC) protocol, a universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) protocol, a 3GPP long term evolution (LTE) protocol, a fifth generation (5G) protocol, a new radio (NR) protocol, and the like. Instead of wireless communication (or in addition thereto) , the EDs 110a 110b, and 110c may communicate using wired communication channels to a service provider or switch (not shown) , and / or to the Internet 150. The PSTN 140 may include circuit switched telephone networks for providing plain old telephone service (POTS) . The Internet 150 may include a network of computers and subnets (intranets) or both, and incorporate protocols, such as internet protocol (IP) , transmission control protocol (TCP) , user datagram protocol (UDP) . EDs 110a 110b, and 110c may be multimode devices capable of operation according to multiple radio access technologies, and may incorporate one or multiple transceivers necessary to support such.

[0114] FIG. 4 illustrates an example apparatus 410 according to an implementation of the present disclosure. The apparatus 410 may be a communication device or an apparatus implemented in a communication device such as the ED 110 or the TRPs 170a, 170b, 172. For example, the apparatus 410 implemented in an ED may be an integrated circuit, which in some instances may be referred to as a chip, a modem, a modem chip, a baseband chip, or a baseband processor. In some implementations, one or more integrated circuits can be packaged into a system-on-chip, a system-in-package, or a multi-chip module. The apparatus 410 can include one or more integrated circuits and other discrete components. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be a module within the ED 110, or within the apparatus 310. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be a module within one of the TRPs 170a, 170b, 172, or the apparatus 320.

[0115] In an example, the apparatus 410 may include one or more processors 411, and an interface circuit 412. The apparatus 410 may further include a memory 413. The one or more processors 411 are configured to process signals and execute one or more communication protocols. The memory 413 is configured to store at least a part of corresponding computer program instructions and / or data. In an example, the one or more processors 411 execute the computer program instructions stored in the memory 413 to implement related operations (for example, inputting, outputting, receiving, and transmitting) in the method embodiments disclosed herein. In some implementations, the memory 413 being configured to store the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data may mean that the memory 413 is configured to store all of the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data for execution by the one or more processors 411. In some implementations, the memory 413 being configured to store the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data may mean that the memory 413 is configured to store a part of the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data. For example, the part of the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data may include computer program instructions and / or data that need to be currently executed by the one or more processors 411. Thus, the memory 413 may store different parts of computer program instructions and / or data for a plurality of times for the one or more processors 411 to perform related operations in the method embodiments disclosed herein. As a communication interface, the interface circuit 412 is configured to implement communication with another component. For example, the interface circuit 412 may communicate a signal with another apparatus or system, such as a radio frequency processing apparatus or another processor. The signal may include or carry information intended as a payload, such as user data, control information, etc. The signal may also include or carry information useful to a receiver, but not necessarily as a payload, such as a pilot signal or reference signal. Communicating the signal may include transmitting the signal to another component or device. Communicating the signal may additionally or alternatively include receiving the signal from another component or device. Transmitting the signal may include outputting the signal to a component or device that is directly or indirectly coupled to the interface circuit 412. Receiving the signal may include inputting or obtaining the signal from a component or device that is directly or indirectly coupled to the interface circuit 412. Optionally, to reduce a load of the one or more processors, a baseband signal processing circuit 414 may be also disposed to implement processing of at least a part of baseband signals, including signal demodulation, modulation, encoding, decoding, or the like.

[0116] The apparatus 410 may be the processor 210 (or 260) within the apparatus 310 (or 320) , in some scenarios, or may be included witin the processor 210 (or 260) within the apparatus 310 (or 320) in some scenarios. The apparatus 410 may be a baseband chip or may include a baseband chip. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be independently packaged into a chip. In some implementations, the apparatus 310 (or 320) includes different types of chips. The apparatus 410 may be packaged into a processor chip (for example, an SoC chip or an SIP chip) with the different types of chips. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be packaged into a chip with some or all of circuits of a radio frequency processing system that may further be included in the apparatus 310 (or 320) .

[0120] In some implementations, when the apparatus 510 is an ED 110 or a module in an ED 110, a function of the apparatus 510 may be implemented by one or more processors. Specifically, the processor may include a modem chip, or a system on chip (SoC) chip or an SIP chip that includes a modem core. A function of the communication unit 513 may be implemented by a transceiver circuit.

[0121] In some implementations, when the apparatus 510 is a circuit or a chip that is responsible for a communication function in an ED 110, such as a modem chip, a system on chip (SoC) chip or an SIP chip that includes a modem core -a function of the processing unit 512 may be implemented by a circuit system within the chip which includes one or more processors. A function of the communication unit 513 may be implemented by an interface circuit or a data transceiver circuit on the chip.

[0122] It may be understood that the units in the apparatus 510 may be logical or functional. Each function may correspond to one functional unit, or two or more functions may be integrated into a single functional unit. In actual implementation, all or some of the units may be integrated into a single physical entity, or may be distributed across different physical entities. In addition, the functional units may be implemented in the form of hardware, software, or a combination of hardware and software. Whether a function is implemented in the form of hardware or software depends on particular applications and design constraint conditions of the technical solutions. A person skilled in the art may use different methods to implement the described functions for specific applications, but it should not be considered that the implementation goes beyond the scope of this disclosure.

[0123] In an example, a functional unit in any one of the apparatuses may be configured as one or more integrated circuits for implementing the methods disclosed herein, for example, as one or more application-specific integrated circuits (application-specific integrated circuits, ASICs) , one or more central processing units (CPUs) , one or more microprocessors or microprocessor units (MPUs) , one or more microcontrollers or microcontroller units (MCUs) , one or more digital signal processors (DSPs) , one or more field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) , or a combination of these.

[0125] A processor may be referred to as a processor system, an application processor, a baseband processor, a processor circuit, or a processor core. The processor may include one or a combination of one or more central processing units (CPUs) , one or more digital signal processors (DSPs) , one or more microprocessors (microprocessor units, MPUs) , one or more microcontrollers (microcontroller units, MCUs) , one or more graphics processing units (GPUs) , one or more field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) , one or more artificial intelligence processors (AI processors) , or one or more neural network processing units (NPUs) .

[0126] Memory or a storage unit may include one or more of the following storage media: a random access memory (RAM) , a static random access memory (static RAM, SRAM) , a dynamic random access memory (dynamic RAM, DRAM) , a phase-change memory (PCM) , a resistive random access memory (resistive RAM, ReRAM) , a magnetoresistive random access memory (magnetoresistive RAM, MRAM) , a ferroelectric random access memory (ferroelectric RAM, FRAM) , a cache, a register, a read-only memory (ROM) , a flash memory (flash memory) , an erasable programmable read-only memory (erasable programmable ROM, EPROM) , a hard disk, and the like. In an example, computer program instructions used to execute embodiments may be stored in a non-volatile memory, for example, at least a part of a memory or storage unit (for example, one or more of a ROM, a flash memory, an EPROM, or a hard disk) . When a terminal runs, a part or all of corresponding computer program instructions may be loaded to a memory that has a higher transmission speed with the processor, for example, at least a part of a memory or a storage unit (for example, one or more of a RAM, an SRAM, a DRAM, a PCM, a RERAM, an MRAM, a FRAM, a cache, or a register) , so that the processor executes the computer program instructions to perform the steps in the method embodiments disclosed herein.

[0127] For ease of understanding of the implementations of this application, the following briefly describes several terms used in this application.

[0128] 1) Frame structure

[0129] A frame structure is a feature of the wireless communication physical layer that defines a time domain signal transmission structure, e.g. to allow for timing reference and timing alignment of basic time domain transmission units. Wireless communication between communicating devices may occur on time-frequency resources governed by a frame structure. The frame structure may sometimes instead be called a radio frame structure.

[0130] Depending upon the frame structure and / or configuration of frames in the frame structure, frequency division duplex (FDD) and / or time-division duplex (TDD) and / or full duplex (FD) communication may be possible. FDD communication is when transmissions in different directions (e.g. uplink vs. downlink) occur in different frequency bands. TDD communication is when transmissions in different directions (e.g. uplink vs. downlink) occur over different time durations. FD communication is when transmission and reception occur on the same time-frequency resource, i.e. a device can both transmit and receive on the same frequency resource concurrently in time.

[0131] One example of a frame structure is a frame structure in long-term evolution (LTE) having the following specifications: each frame is 10ms in duration; each frame has 10 subframes, which are each 1ms in duration; each subframe includes two slots, each of which is 0.5ms in duration; each slot is for transmission of 7 OFDM symbols (assuming normal CP); each OFDM symbol has a symbol duration and a particular bandwidth (or partial bandwidth or bandwidth partition) related to the number of subcarriers and subcarrier spacing; the frame structure is based on OFDM waveform parameters such as subcarrier spacing and CP length (where the CP has a fixed length or limited length options) ; and the switching gap between uplink and downlink in TDD has to be the integer time of OFDM symbol duration.

[0132] Another example of a frame structure is a frame structure in new radio (NR) having the following specifications: multiple subcarrier spacings are supported, each subcarrier spacing corresponding to a respective numerology; the frame structure depends on the numerology, but in any case the frame length is set at 10ms, and consists of ten subframes of 1ms each; a slot is defined as 14 OFDM symbols, and slot length depends upon the numerology. For example, the NR frame structure for normal CP 15 kHz subcarrier spacing ( “numerology 1” ) and the NR frame structure for normal CP 30 kHz subcarrier spacing ( “numerology 2” ) are different. For 15 kHz subcarrier spacing a slot length is 1ms, and for 30 kHz subcarrier spacing a slot length is 0.5ms. The NR frame structure may have more flexibility than the LTE frame structure.

[0133] 2) Cell / Carrier / Bandwidth Parts (BWPs)  / Occupied Bandwidth:

[0134] A device, such as a base station, may provide coverage over a cell. Wireless communication with the device may occur over one or more carrier frequencies. A carrier frequency will be referred to as a carrier. A carrier may alternatively be called a component carrier (CC) . A carrier may be characterized by its bandwidth and a reference frequency, e.g. the center or lowest or highest frequency of the carrier. A carrier may be on licensed or unlicensed spectrum. Wireless communication with the device may also or instead occur over one or more bandwidth parts (BWPs) . For example, a carrier may have one or more BWPs. More generally, wireless communication with the device may occur over spectrum. The spectrum may comprise one or more carriers and / or one or more BWPs.

[0135] A cell may include one or multiple downlink resources and optionally one or multiple uplink resources, or a cell may include one or multiple uplink resources and optionally one or multiple downlink resources, or a cell may include both one or multiple downlink resources and one or multiple uplink resources. As an example, a cell might only include one downlink carrier / BWP, or only include one uplink carrier / BWP, or include multiple downlink carriers / BWPs, or include multiple uplink carriers / BWPs, or include one downlink carrier / BWP and one uplink carrier / BWP, or include one downlink carrier / BWP and multiple uplink carriers / BWPs, or include multiple downlink carriers / BWPs and one uplink carrier / BWP, or include multiple downlink carriers / BWPs and multiple uplink carriers / BWPs.

[0136] 3) synchronization signal and PBCH block SSB

[0137] Synchronization signal (SS) : The synchronization signal is used to achieve time-frequency synchronization between a user equipment (UE) and a network node, as well as to detect the physical identity (ID) of the cell. The synchronization signal includes a primary synchronization signal (PSS) and / or a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) , where PSS is used for the UE to perform time-frequency synchronization and cell detection. SSS is used to transmit the physical ID of the cell. PSS and SSS can also be combined together to achieve the above functions.

[0138] Physical broadcasting channel (PBCH) : The PBCH is used for transmitting main system information, such as a small amount of important information, methods for obtaining information from other systems, etc.

[0139] Synchronization signal / PBCH block (SSB) can also be referred to as a synchronization signal block, it includes synchronization signals SS and / or PBCH, used for time synchronization, detection of cell physical IDs, acquisition of main system information, etc.

[0140] In a wireless network, upon user equipment (UE) powers on or wakes up from a power saving / sleep mode such as radio resource control (RRC) Inactive or Idle mode, it may start to search SSB signals from a network node such as a base station (BS) or a transmission and receiving point (TRP) for synchronization, receiving the system information such as master information block (MIB) , system information block (SIB) , etc., group common signal or paging information, and then taking actions accordingly. Taking 5G NR as an example, a detailed procedure may include the following:

[0141] 1. Synchronization with a cell:

[0142] SSBs are periodically transmitted by gNB (next-generation Node B) and carries important information such as cell identity for initial access.

[0143] The UE starts by searching synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) in the pre-defined (or configured) frequency points.

[0144] The UE performs a blind search across multiple frequency bands and frequency points to detect the SSBs, for example, the synchronization search may be based on frequency points in predefined synchronization raster for different frequency bands.

[0145] 2. SSB detection and measurement:

[0146] Upon detecting an SSB, the UE may measure the received signal strength (e.g., reference signal received power (RSRP) ) and signal quality (e.g., signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) ) to evaluate the cell's suitability.

[0147] The UE may also decode the physical broadcast channel (PBCH) carried by the SSB to obtain the master information block (MIB) , which contains essential access system information.

[0148] 3. Frequency band and bandwidth detection:

[0149] Based on a detected SSB, the UE can determine the frequency band and bandwidth of the cell.

[0150] In NR, an SSB carries information about the frequency range (e.g., frequency range 1 (FR1) or FR2) and the channel bandwidth (e.g., 20 MHz, 40 MHz, 100 MHz) .

[0151] Note that the cell search procedure is a critical aspect of the initial access and mobility management process, ensuring that the UE can establish and maintain a reliable connection with the best available cell, especially in challenging high frequency bands.

[0152] Legacy SSB signals may be always on in a network node, such as a BS or a TRP, and used for a UE to synchronize with and identify a cell, where detection of a SSB signal may need to perform digital signal processing for decoding PBCH.

[0153] For future wireless network where the green network with power saving is desired, both network and UEs may need to have a design with energy saving, for example, using low power transceiver, simplified procedure, reduced signaling overhead, etc.

[0154] In legacy network, SSB signals in a synchronization burst are used to synchronize with a cell for initial access (e.g., upon UE power-on) or network re-entry (e.g., UE wake-up from a sleep mode) , where each synchronization signal comprises same primary synchronization signal (PSS) and secondary synchronization signal (SSS) to be used for both timing synchronization and cell identification. One SSB signal may also provide other information such as subframe timing, frame timing, an SSB index, an indication to access system information (SI) . To support a transmission or detection of an SSB signal, a transceiver may need to perform both analog and digital processing with sophisticated encoding or decoding, thus consuming quite large energy.

[0155] Legacy SSB signals may be always on in a network node, such as a BS or a TRP, and used for a UE to synchronize with and identify a cell, where detection of an SSB signal may need to perform digital signal processing for decoding PBCH.

[0156] FIG. 6 illustrates an example of a legacy synchronization process according to an implementation of the present disclosure.

[0157] As shown in FIG. 6, FIG. 6 which shows legacy synchronization signals from a network node such as a BS, SSB signals, each comprise same information such as PSS, SSS and MIB, where PSS and SSS are used for both timing synchronization and cell identification. There are four SSBs in FIG. 6. Each SSB comprises same sequence (PSS / SSS) with digital signal processing. UE may power on or wake up from a sleep mode in an area of the network node, and search for surrounding SSB signals trying to synchronize with the network node, and then receive system information such as SIB (s) or paging information from the network node. As the SSB signals are always-on and digital signaling processing is involved, both the network node and UE may need to consume big amount of energy and computing power, where normally powered transceivers, referred to as normal radio (NR) , are used to transmit and receive the SSB signals.

[0158] For future wireless network where the green network with power saving is desired, both network and UEs may need to have a design with energy saving, for example, using low power transceiver, simplified procedure, reduced signaling overhead, etc.

[0159] Thus, it is a challenge to save power of a network node and a UE in a synchronization procedure.

[0160] The main technical solution to solve the above technical problem is that a simplified synchronization signal is transmitted by the network node to the UE to perform synchronization procedure.

[0161] Accordingly, a method is provided in this disclosure. The method includes using simplified synchronization scheme for low power transceiver and / or UEs in a power saving mode such as sleep mode, Inactive mode, or Idle mode, etc.

[0162] The following describes the implementations of this application in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0163] In the implementations of this application, a time-frequency resource may be referred to as any one of: a resource, a time-frequency domain resource, a time-frequency resource set, or a time-frequency resource block.

[0164] Referring to FIG. 7, FIG. 7 is a schematic flowchart of a communication method for according to an implementation of this disclosure. The method may be performed by a terminal node, or performed by a chip, a circuit, or a processing system configured in the terminal node. The method applies the user equipment as an example of a conducting entity. The method may also be performed by a network node, or performed by a chip, a circuit, or a processing system configured in the network node. The method applied the network node as an example of a conducting entity.

[0165] For example, the terminal node can be one of communication EDs described in FIG. 1. And the network node can be a base station or a TRP.

[0166] At step 710, the network node transmits, and accordingly, the terminal node receives a first synchronization signal. The first synchronization signal is one of a plurality of synchronization signals in a synchronization signal burst. The plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst correspond to a plurality of synchronization sequences.

[0167] The plurality of synchronization signals may include at least two synchronization signals. The plurality of synchronization can also be referred to as a set of synchronization signals.

[0168] For example, a time duration of the synchronization signal burst may be 5ms. In other words, the plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst may be communicated between the terminal node and the network node in the time duration, e.g. 5ms. The time duration of the synchronization signal burst may be other values and this application does not limit this.

[0169] In some implementations, each of the plurality of synchronization signals is associated with one of the plurality of synchronization sequences. For example, different synchronization signals may be associated with different synchronization sequences, in other words, different sequence is used to generate the different synchronization signal; as a result, synchronization signals generated by different synchronization sequences in a synchronization burst can be configured with synchronization indices by its transmission order in the synchronization burst. Alternatively, two or more synchronization signals may be associated with a same synchronization sequence, for example, same sequence with different (cyclic) shift may be used to generated different synchronization signals.

[0170] As such, each of different synchronization signals corresponding to a unique synchronization sequence relative to each SSB including unchangeable PSS and SSS may give help for the terminal node to perform synchronization process with a simplified synchronization signal. Or, a same synchronization sequence can be used to generate at least two synchronization signals so that the number of the plurality of synchronization sequences can be reduce.

[0171] In some implementations, a relationship between different synchronization signals in the plurality of synchronization signals and different synchronization sequences in the plurality of synchronization sequences is one-to-one.

[0172] In other words, each of the plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst is uniquely associated with a synchronization sequence among the different synchronization sequences. Or, the number of the plurality of synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst is equal to the number of the different synchronization sequences.

[0173] For example, the first synchronization signal may correspond to a unique synchronization sequence in the plurality of the synchronization sequence.

[0174] Different types of the plurality of synchronization sequences may include one or more of PSS, SSS, m-sequences, or a combination.

[0175] In some implementations, the plurality of the synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst is associated with different synchronization signal indices that indicate an order of synchronization signal transmissions in the synchronization signal burst.

[0176] In other words, different synchronization signals indices indicate at least one of time information or spatial information of the different synchronization signals.

[0177] As such, the synchronization signal indices may help the terminal node to determine the time information of the different synchronization signals so that the synchronization signal can at least be very simply to save power.

[0178] In some implementations, each of the plurality of synchronization signals is associated uniquely with a synchronization signal index among the different synchronization signal indices.

[0179] For example, assuming that the plurality of the synchronization signals in the synchronization signal burst may include four synchronization signals with four synchronization signal indices, for example, Sync0, Sync1, Sync2, and Sync3, the four synchronization signals may be transmitted based on the four synchronization signal indices in time domain.

[0180] As such, each of the plurality of synchronization signals corresponds to a unique synchronization index may help the terminal node to determine the time information of each of the plurality of synchronization signals more accurately.

[0181] In some implementations, the first synchronization signal indicates at least one of communication direction (e.g., spatial information) of the first synchronization signal in the synchronization burst, or timing information for transmitting or receiving a communication signal.

[0182] The communication direction of the first synchronization signal may refer to beam direction corresponding to the first synchronization signal.

[0183] The timing information may refer to time location of the communication signal.

[0184] In some implementations, the timing information comprises at least one of symbol timing, slot timing or frame timing.

[0185] For example, the time information may be denoted by symbol timing in a half-frame, slot timing in a half-frame, or both symbol timing and slot timing in a half-frame.

[0186] Noted that, the timing information and / or the communication direction may pre-defined or pre-configured in the terminal node.

[0187] As such, the first synchronization signal indicates the communication direction in the synchronization signal burst and / or the timing information for the communication signal, so that the first synchronization may involve in only analog signal processing. And the simplified synchronization signal may contribute to low power transceiver in both a network node or a terminal node.

[0188] In some implementations, the plurality of synchronization signals is associated with frequency domain resource information.

[0189] In other words, the plurality of the synchronization signals is carried in a frequency domain resource indicated by the frequency domain resource information.

[0190] In a possible implementation, the frequency domain resource information indicates at least one frequency domain resources and may be predefined or pre-configured in the terminal node.

[0191] Optionally, before the step 710, the terminal node performs a blind detection across the at least one frequency domain resources to detect the plurality of synchronization signals.

[0192] In a possible implementation, the plurality of synchronization sequences is associated with the frequency domain resource information.

[0193] In a possible implementation, the frequency domain resource information comprises one or more of a component carrier (CC) , an anchor component carrier (ACC) , signal bandwidth or a reference frequency.

[0194] FIG. 8 illustrates an example of a synchronization process according to an implementation of the present disclosure.

[0195] As shown in FIG. 8, a network node such as a BS may be configured with a carrier component (CC) or an anchored carrier component (ACC) , where the CC or ACC may be associated with a plurality of synchronization signals (e.g. Sync0, Sync1, Sync2, Sync3) in a synchronization signal burst, each synchronization signal comprises one synchronization sequence from a group of four sequences, e.g., s0, s1, s2, s3. In other words, a set of synchronization sequences is associated with a CC or an anchor CC. Optionally, a reference frequency can also be associated with the plurality of synchronization signals in a synchronization signal burst. And the reference frequency can also be associated with the plurality of synchronization sequences. Each synchronization signal in the plurality of synchronization signals in a synchronization burst may be sent at different directions (or different beams) to allow a UE for symbol timing, subframe timing and / or frame timing. As shown in FIG. 8, different synchronization sequences indicate different TX / RX directions and frame synchronization information which is an example of timing information. Therefore, the simplified synchronization scheme may allow the network node and / or a network node (for example, a UE) to apply low-power transceiver (s) such as low power wakeup signal (WUS) transmitter or low-power wakeup receiver (WUR) . A different synchronization sequence may be associated with a sequence index, which may be used for an indication for synchronization search, or an association with incoming time-frequency resource (s) that can be predefined by standards, preconfigured or configured by RRC or downlink control information (DCI) .

[0196] In general, a group of synchronization sequences, e.g., s0, s1, s2, s3 (used for synchronization signals) can be pre-configured or predefined to associate with a reference frequency, a CC, or an ACC. The group of synchronization signals, e.g. Sync0, Sync1, Sync2, Sync3 can be associated with the reference frequency, a CC or an ACC indicated by the frequency domain resource information. And this allows for a terminal node such as a UE to search on the reference frequency, the CC or the ACC to synchronize with these sequences and perform initial access to a network node such as a BS or a TRP.

[0197] As such, the plurality of synchronization signals may be associated with a predefined or pre-configured frequency domain resource so that the terminal node may easily and accurately perform a blind search to obtain the first synchronization signal.

[0198] S720, the terminal node transmits or receives a communication signal at a time-frequency resource. The time-frequency resource is associated with the first synchronization signal.

[0199] Correspondingly, the network node receives or transmits the communication signal at the time-frequency resource.

[0200] The time-frequency resource may be determined based on the first synchronization signal.

[0201] In a possible implementation, an association between the plurality of synchronization signals and the incoming time-frequency resource (s) can be predefined by standards, preconfigured or configured by RRC or DCI.

[0202] Optionally, the time-frequency resource carrying the communication signal may be determined based on the first synchronization signal and the association between the plurality of synchronization signals and the incoming time-frequency resource (s) .

[0203] In the foregoing method, the terminal node receives a first synchronization signal which is one of a plurality of synchronization signals in a synchronization signal burst. The first synchronization signal is a simplified synchronization signal corresponding to a synchronization sequence and is associated with a time-frequency resource used for the incoming communication signal. As such, the terminal node may determine the time-frequency resource more easily. And the simplified synchronization signal is suitable for a low power transceiver in both the network node and the terminal node.

[0204] In some implementations, a time domain location of the time-frequency resource of the communication signal is determined based on a time domain resource of the first synchronization signal and a time offset relative to the time domain resource of the first synchronization signal. The timing information for transmitting or receiving a communication includes the time offset.

[0205] In some implementations, the communication signal is an uplink signal; or the communication signal is a downlink signal.

[0206] In a possible implementation, the time-frequency resource of the communication signal may be used for one of system information, paging message, a downlink data, PRACH, an uplink control signal, or an uplink data, etc.

[0207] FIG. 9 illustrates an example of time-frequency resource of communication signal according to an implementation of the present disclosure.

[0208] A network node such as a BS or a TPR may transmit a plurality of synchronization signals in a synchronization signal burst within one or more frames; and optionally, a synchronization signal may be associated with one or more time-frequency resources may be transmitted by a DL signal, which is an example of a communication signal, following the synchronization signal, where the one or more time-frequency resources may be pre-defined, pre-configured or configured by system information or paging signal, etc. FIG. 9 shows a burst of four synchronization signals (e.g. Sync0, Sync1, Sync2, Sync3) comprising synchronization sequences s0, s1, s2, s3 where the plurality of the synchronization signals (or the plurality of the synchronization sequences) are associated with a CC. The CC may transmit four synchronization signals in 4 time intervals and optionally in different communication directions or different beam directions. DL and / or UL time-frequency resources may be preconfigured / predefined and associated a time offset with one synchronization signal such as synchronization signal 0 (or sync 0) .

[0209] FIG. 10 illustrates another example of time-frequency resource of communication signal according to an implementation of the present disclosure.

[0210] As one implementation, FIG. 10 shows a plurality of four synchronization signals (e.g. Sync0, Sync1, Sync2, Sync3) in a synchronization burst, where if one or more UEs may synchronize with second synchronization signal (e.g. Sync 1 as shown in FIG. 10) from a network node at one direction (or beam) . Associated a time offset, T_offset, with the second synchronization signal (Sync 1) is (are) DL and / or UL time-frequency resource (s) that may be preconfigured or configured and used for transmitting system information such as MIB / SIB, paging message, DL data, random access channel (RACH) configuration or procedure, UL control and / or UL data, etc. Therefore, a time location of the time-frequency resource used for the communication signal may be determined based on a time domain resource corresponding to the Sync1 and the T_offset. The Sync1 is an example of the first synchronization signal described above.

[0211] As such, a time location of a resource used for communication signal can be easily determined based on the first synchronization signal and a time offset relative to the time domain resource of the first synchronization signal.

[0212] Optionally, a frequency domain resource of the time-frequency resource may be associated with a frequency domain resource of the plurality of synchronization signals.

[0213] For example, the frequency domain resource of the first synchronization signal is a CC, and a frequency domain resource of the time-frequency resource used for the communication signal can also be the same CC.

[0214] In some implementations, the downlink signal comprises at least one of identification information of a network node or a cell, information related to master information block (MIB) , and system information from the network node.

[0215] The identification information associated with a network node can also be referred to as identification information associated with a cell.

[0216] In other words, information included in the downlink signal is transmitted after the first synchronization signal with a synchronization sequence.

[0217] In a possible implementation, a first synchronization signal with one synchronization sequence from a network node via a CC may provide symbol, subframe and / or frame synchronization to allow a terminal node for (quick) synchronization with and access to the network node (due to the simplified synchronization signal design) . Based on need, other information such as the network node identification or cell identification, MIB-like information, system information (SI) , etc., can be provided by DL signal (s) , which is an example of the communication signal, following the first synchronization signal. Time-frequency resource (s) of the DL signal (s) is (are) can be predefined by standards, preconfigured or configured by semi-static signaling such as system information or RRC, and the time-frequency resource (s) may be indicated to associate with one or more of at least one synchronization signal, a synchronization signal (sequence) index in a synchronization burst.

[0218] As such, the terminal node may quickly synchronize and access to the network node because the first synchronization signal, which is a simplified synchronization signal, correspond to a unique synchronization sequence. Other information related to the network node can be transmitted after the first synchronization signal. The power of the terminal mode and the network node can be saved.

[0219] In some implementations, the downlink signal further comprises a configuration of random access channel (RACH) information.

[0220] In some implementations, the terminal node such as a UE powers on and performs a synchronization with a network node, where, via an associate frequency point or CC, the network node transmits synchronization signals that comprise one or more synchronization sequences from the group (or set) of synchronization sequences.

[0221] FIG. 11 illustrates an example of a synchronization procedure according to an implementation of the present disclosure.

[0222] As shown in FIG. 11, the network node such as a UE1 may synchronize a (simplified) synchronization signal, which is an example of the first synchronization signal described above, from the network node such as a TRP1 via CC1, where the (simplified) synchronization signals may comprise four different synchronization sequences. In other words, the plurality of synchronization signals associated with CC1 correspond to different synchronization sequences. For example, four synchronization signals in a synchronization signal burst correspond to four different synchronization sequences. Moreover or alternatively, system information of the TRP1 (such as MIB / SIB-like information) or RACH information for UEs may be transmitted by DL signal (s) , which is an example of a communication signal, following the simplified synchronization signal, which is an example of the first synchronization signal, whose relationship may be predefined or preconfigured. In other implementations, the RACH procedure can be optional, depending on the RACH configuration and an instruction from TRP1.

[0223] Optionally, the terminal node transmits, and accordingly, the network node receives an uplink communication signal to perform an initial access procedure based on configuration of the RACH information.

[0224] As shown in FIG. 11, an initial access procedure can be performed in the uplink communication signal based on the RACH information carried in the communication signal after the simplified synchronization signal.

[0225] In some implementations, the downlink signal further comprises paging related information.

[0226] The paging related information may also refer to as a paging notification and / or a paging message.

[0227] In above figures (e.g., FIG. 8 -FIG. 11) and descriptions, the system information such as MIB / SIB transmitted in the DL resource (s) , which is an example of a communication signal, may generally include information about a network node such as access information to access the network node, identity of the network node, identity of a cell, associated one or more carriers for control or data transmission, frame number or relative timing (to a synchronization signal) , monitoring control channel or channel resource configuration, transceiver type (e.g., low power transceiver) , conditions to access of the network node, etc.

[0228] Moreover or alternatively, paging notification and / or paging message, which can also be referred to as paging related information, transmitted in the DL resource (s) may generally include at least one of a notification of paging opportunity (opportunities) to come or skip, if the terminal node such as a UE to have DL incoming traffic or not, transceiver type (e.g., low power transceiver) , conditions to access of the network node (e.g., based on channel conditions or quality) , and / or include scheduling information for one or more UEs, an indication of communication operation or a sensing operation.

[0229] In some implementations, the UL time-frequency resource (s) , which is an example of the time-frequency resource used for the communication signal, may be used for UL control such as PRACH or data transmission such as configured grant transmission; or DL time-frequency resource (s) may include UL traffic scheduling for one or more UEs for transmission of UL traffic and / or an indication of a sensing operation.

[0230] In other implementations, one or more network nodes such as BSs or TRPs as a group may comprise coverage cell and / or capacity cell (s) , the one or more network nodes may be associated with one or more carriers, including anchor CC (s) for initial communication access and CC (s) for control and / or data traffic. In other words, one or more network nodes as a group may correspond to one or more cells which comprise at least one coverage cell and / or at least one capacity cell. In the coverage cell, the network node can also be referred to as the coverage network node. In a capacity cell, the network node may also be referred to as the capacity network node. The one or more network nodes may be related to one or more carriers. A part of the one or more carriers is used for initial communization access. Another part of the one or more carrier is used for control and / or data traffic.

[0231] For example, an ACC may be used for initial communication access including the plurality of synchronization signals, system information and paging information, etc. and at least one CC may be used for additional control or data traffic.

[0232] For example, an anchor CC (or a coverage TRP) may be used for control signaling to provide synchronization signals, broadcast system information, paging information, etc. while other CC (or a capacity TRP) may be used for (additional) control or data traffic. In other words, an ACC corresponding to a coverage network node is used for initial communication access and other CCs corresponding to a capacity network node is used for control and / or data traffic.

[0233] In another implementation, the terminal node such as a UE waking up from a sleep mode may first access an anchor CC that is preconfigured or configured for synchronization with a network node (e.g., a coverage TRP) , get system information or paging information from the network node.

[0234] In some implementations, the system information or paging information carried in the anchor ACC corresponding to a coverage network node may include information related to a capacity network node used for control and / or data traffic.

[0235] For example, the system information or paging information may provide at least one of an indication for UE to access a second network node (e.g., a capacity TPR) for control and / or data traffic, and optionally assistance information to access the second network node such as timing or timing difference between the network node and the second network node, identity of the second network node, carrier information associated with the second network node, synchronization information sent from the second network node such as number of synchronization signals per synchronization burst, synchronization pattern, etc., operation performing type such as communication or sensing, transceiver type (e.g., low power transceiver) , power on-off pattern, accessing conditions to the second network node, etc.

[0236] Optionally, the terminal node transmits, and accordingly, the network node receives a measurement report via the uplink signal based on measuring the first synchronization signal.

[0237] Optionally, the terminal node may perform measurement based on the first synchronization signal.

[0238] FIG. 12 illustrates another example of a synchronization procedure according to an implementation of the present disclosure.

[0239] In some implementations, the terminal node such as UE1 wakes up from a sleep mode such as an inactive mode, an idle mode, or a power saving mode, and searches a synchronization signal from a network node in a CC (preconfigured CC or dedicated CC) to perform a synchronization procedure, where the synchronization signal may comprise one or more synchronization sequences from the group (or set) of synchronization sequences.

[0240] Optionally, the UE1 may perform measurements based on the synchronization signal to obtain, e.g., one or more of channel conditions, channel quality, UE1 location (e.g., coordinators, network zone) , etc. and report to the network node. As shown in FIG. 12, a (simplified) synchronization signal from the network node such as TRP1 via CC1 may comprise one or more synchronization sequences, where UE1 waking up in a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle may synchronize with the (simplified) synchronization signal and optionally perform the measurements; UE1 may obtain system information including RACH resource configuration, PDCCH or paging message of the TRP1, and perform a RACH procedure and / or (optionally) report the measurements in the uplink signal. After wakeup operations, UE1 may go back to sleep.

[0241] In some implementations, both a network node (i.e., a BS) and a terminal node (e.g., a UE) may require an energy saving during a communication or a sensing operation. Considering to reduce energy saving on synchronization signals, each SSB signal can be simplified by a synchronization signal, which can also be referred to as the first synchronization signal, with sequence (s) to provide only timing synchronization (such as symbol timing and / or frame timing) and / or communication direction, while other information such as MIB, system information may be sent separately, e.g., using additional a DL signal which is an example of the communication signal, following the synchronization signal. For example, time-frequency resource (s) of the DL signal can be associated with the first synchronization signal. For synchronizations with different synchronization sequences, each synchronization sequence may indicate at least one of transmission or receiving direction, a relative time location in a synchronization burst.

[0242] For example, using a sequence index among a group of the synchronization sequences, where the sequence index may be able to indicate timing information of the sequence within a subframe or a frame as a synchronization burst may have a time location within a subframe or a frame, which can be preconfigured by standards or configured by system information, group common signaling or UE specific signaling.

[0243] Such a simplified synchronization scheme can be used for a low power transceiver in both a network node or a terminal node, as, for example, proposed synchronization signals may involve in only analog signal processing. As a result, the simplified synchronization scheme is applicable to UE synchronization for power-on with cell search or waking-up from a sleep mode.

[0244] The communication method proposed in the implementations of the present application is described in detail above, and a communication apparatus provided by the present application will be described below.
