Description
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The invention relates to a seat arrangement for a cabin of a means of transport, a cabin of a means of transport and a means of transport with a fuselage and at least one cabin formed therein. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Means of transport such as airplanes, rail vehicles, watercraft, or coaches can have passenger seating areas, which typically have seat arrangements. Particularly in means of transport for longer journeys, seating arrangements are also known that offer particularly high levels of seating and travel comfort. In addition to the actual seats, the seating arrangements can also include footrests or ottomans with integrated footrests. If the seat is also movable, the seat, together with a footrest, could provide a reclining position.
[0003] Known seating arrangements with increased comfort are predominantly found in long-haul commercial aircraft, which have a larger fuselage diameter and thus a relatively large cabin space. This allows for the implementation of two aisles and two outer and one inner passenger seating areas. Seating arrangements for aircraft with smaller diameters and a central aisle cabin, however, are known to have only two seat modules.
[0004] US 2017 / 240283 A1 shows, in one illustrative embodiment, a premium seating arrangement for an aircraft cabin having at least three passenger suites, each passenger suite including a seat movable between an upright position and a horizontal bed position, and an ottoman extending a surface area of the bed position. The passenger suites may collectively form a nested arrangement capable of nesting with identical passenger suite arrangements longitudinally within the cabin area. At least two of the passenger suite ottomans may be longitudinally offset in their installation position. Each passenger suite in the arrangement has direct aisle access without any other passenger suite intervening.
[0005] EP 3 378 770 A1 relates to a seat arrangement comprising a first and a second seat arranged with their backrests facing each other, wherein the first and the second seat are displaceable from each other from a sitting position to a lying position, possibly with the possibility of stopping in each of the intermediate positions, wherein a part of the partition is arranged laterally with respect to the seats, extending laterally on one side of the first and second seats and terminating on one side in a section containing a footrest arranged in front of the respective seat and on the other side at a distance from the respective side of the partition of the seat, so that an entry / exit passage remains free and thus access to the seats, wherein the entry / exit passage leads to a track for reaching the first or the second seat, the partitions, which at their respective end forming the entry / exit channel, provide a footrest on the outside, each positioned in front of a third and fourth seat, which are arranged in opposite directions with respect to the respective seat arranged on the opposite side of the same partition, the third and fourth seats also being able to move from a sitting position to a lying position, possibly with the possibility of stopping in any intermediate position. DE 10 2015 105540 A1 describes a passenger seat arrangement for a vehicle cabin, comprising at least a first group of passenger seats with a first passenger seat and a second passenger seat, at least one third passenger seat, and an aisle running parallel to a longitudinal axis, the first passenger seat or the third passenger seat being arranged directly on the aisle and with the seating direction parallel to it,wherein a seating direction of the second passenger seat is rotated by a first angle (α) of at least 2° relative to the seating direction of the first passenger seat, and wherein the first group of passenger seats and the third passenger seat are arranged side by side and have a longitudinal offset (L) relative to one another along the longitudinal axis. US 2007 / 040434 A1 discloses a passenger seat assembly comprising a first seat unit facing in a first direction; a first ottoman having a first support surface positioned to accommodate the feet of a passenger seated in the first seat unit; a second seat unit facing in a second direction generally opposite the first direction; and a second ottoman arranged laterally adjacent to the first ottoman and having a second support surface positioned to accommodate the feet of a passenger seated in the second seat unit. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a seating arrangement with which means of transport with a narrow cabin width and in particular a single aisle can be equipped and with which a large number of passengers can be accommodated with a high level of comfort.
[0007] The object is achieved by a seat arrangement having the features of independent claim 1. Advantageous embodiments and further developments can be found in the subclaims and the following description.
[0008] A seating arrangement for a cabin of a means of transport according to claim 1 is proposed.
[0009] The seating arrangement according to the invention is therefore limited to two outer passenger seating areas separated from each other by a single aisle. The special feature of the seating arrangement according to the invention is that both passenger seating areas each have three seat modules arranged next to each other. The offset, in particular of the outer, third seat module in the longitudinal direction, makes it easier for the user to reach this outer seat module. Passing through the first or second seat module is not necessary.
[0010] In this context, an ottoman is to be understood as a built-in component that particularly preferably offers a comfortable place to rest one's feet. An ottoman is arranged in front of the seat in question in the direction of travel and has a height or height of a footrest adapted to the height of a seat. The ottoman can be fixed to the cabin floor or it can at least be movable to a certain extent along the length of the cabin. In addition to the possibility of integrating a footrest, a storage area for personal belongings could also be provided. It is also conceivable to accommodate electronic installations, such as a screen or components linked to the screen.
[0011] The seat of the third seating module is located next to the ottoman or footrest of the second seating module. The seat does not necessarily have to be positioned entirely and exclusively next to the footrest or ottoman; the two components could, for example, only partially overlap in the longitudinal direction. The seat could therefore also be offset slightly further along the longitudinal direction.
[0012] The space between the ottoman and the seat of the third seating module is open on the side facing the aisle. If a user enters a gap between the two longitudinally consecutive first seating modules, they can directly access the second seating module and enter the third seating module. The first seating module can be directly accessible from the aisle, for example, and does not require any special arrangements.
[0013] The second seating module could be accessed from a gap between two first seating modules positioned in front of each other. The user could walk lengthwise along the ottoman or footrest of the second seating module. For this purpose, the ottoman or footrest could provide a suitable space through which the user could step to the seat of the second seating module. It would also be conceivable to position the ottoman or footrest in a use position and a walk-through position, allowing the seat of the second seating module to be reached.
[0014] Consequently, the seating arrangement according to the invention allows for a very compact cabin design with very comfortable seating modules. Space utilization is also particularly good because the second and third seating modules can share the same access between two consecutive first seating modules. Means of transport with only a single aisle can be equipped with two arrangements of three adjacent seating modules each. This can result in significant space savings, which can be utilized, for example, with additional seats or seating modules.
[0015] In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the ottomans and / or footrests of the second and third seat modules are narrower than the corresponding seat. This improves the lateral nesting of the seat modules. Due to the significant longitudinal offset of the seats of the second and third seat modules, the combined width of the second and third seat modules is significantly narrower than the combined width of the two seats.
[0016] It is preferred that a laterally outer boundary of the seat of the second seat module is located closer to the cabin wall belonging to the respective passenger seating area than a laterally inner boundary of the seat of the adjacent third seat module. The outer boundary of the seat of the second seat module can be located within a range of approximately 3 inches (approximately 7.6 cm) to approximately 8 inches (approximately 20.3 cm) closer to the cabin wall than the inner boundary of the seat of the third seat module. This consequently achieves the greatest possible density in the lateral direction, with the combination of a second and a third seat module each having straight outer edges that run parallel to the aisle.
[0017] The second seat module has a foldable footrest designed to release a floor located beneath the footrest as needed to access the seat of the second seat module. The foldable footrest facilitates access to the second seat module or the seat located therein. The foldability of the footrest does not restrict the comfort of the user. The folding function could, for example, be achieved by a hinge on a wall of the second seat module or the adjacent, third seat module. Both the hinge itself and a mechanical stop arranged opposite the hinge could be used to lock or hold the footrest.
[0018] Preferably, the first seat module and the second seat module are offset from one another in the longitudinal direction such that the armrests of the seats of these two seat modules essentially do not overlap in the longitudinal direction. This allows two users sitting adjacent to each other to comfortably use their armrests without their arms accidentally touching. The offset of the first seat module and the second seat module in the longitudinal direction could be limited to one armrest length or just over that.
[0019] It is advantageous if the seat of the first seat module is located longitudinally in front of the seat of the second seat module. This creates an almost straight, i.e., unbent, and intuitively accessible aisle to reach the second and third seat modules.
[0020] It is conceivable that the at least one row of seats comprises several rows of seats, with a distance of at least 22 cm between the first seat modules and the second seat modules of consecutive rows of seats, so that the second and third seat modules can be reached through a common passageway. Such a passageway width allows for relatively dense staggering in the longitudinal direction while still allowing passage through the gap or space between consecutive seat modules. Since the passageway is bordered on one side by an ottoman or footrest, each of which has a relatively low height, the user's comfort is not restricted.
[0021] The seating modules could preferably have a partition wall surrounding at least part of the respective seat. The partition wall significantly improves the privacy of each user and does not compromise the feeling of comfort despite the number of seating modules.
[0022] At least the partition between the aisle-side and middle seats could advantageously be designed with an S-shaped curve to improve access to the seats. Another advantageous embodiment allows for increased space if an S-shaped partition is provided in and immediately in front of the shoulder area for both seats adjacent to a partition, while ensuring a constant aisle width between the two partitions.
[0023] The seats of the seating modules each have a seating direction that runs parallel to the longitudinal axis. This distinguishes the seating arrangement according to the invention significantly from other arrangements in which the seating directions partially run diagonally to the adjacent aisle. This eliminates the need to take various measures to allow a user to pass through the aisle.
[0024] As already indicated, the first seating module can have an entrance facing the aisle. The first seating module can therefore be easily accessed independently of the other, laterally adjacent seating modules.
[0025] In an advantageous embodiment, at least one of the ottomans or footrests has a storage compartment or shelf. A user's personal belongings can thus be stored in the immediate vicinity, directly in the seat module. A shelf could also be used by cabin crew to temporarily store items that need to be put down, for example, when serving food and drinks.
[0026] It may also be advantageous to provide an extendable table or a segmented table instead of or in combination with the storage area. An extendable table may also be designed to accommodate an IFE unit or a fold-out screen.
[0027] The invention further relates to a cabin for a means of transport with at least one seating arrangement as described above. The cabin can be arranged in a fuselage of the means of transport.
[0028] The cabin could have a width in the range of 3.7–4.5 m. Such a cabin could also be implemented in smaller commercial aircraft, which have dimensions significantly smaller than those of conventional long-haul aircraft.
[0029] Finally, the invention relates to a means of transport with a fuselage and at least one cabin as shown above.
[0030] Particular advantages are achieved when the means of transport is a commercial aircraft. Within the limited space available, passengers' personal comfort is significantly increased. SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE CHARACTERS
[0031] Further features, advantages, and possible applications of the present invention will become apparent from the following description of the exemplary embodiments and the figures. All described and / or illustrated features, individually and in any combination, constitute the subject matter of the invention, regardless of their composition in the individual claims or their references. In the figures, the same reference numerals represent the same or similar objects. Fig. 1 shows a seating arrangement in an aircraft cabin. Fig. 2 shows a three-dimensional representation of a first and a second seat module. Fig. 3a bis 3c show differently modified seating arrangements. Fig. 4 shows a three-dimensional representation of a first seating module. Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of a passenger seating area. Fig. 6 finally shows an aircraft with a fuselage and a cabin formed therein with a seating arrangement formed therein. DETAILED REPRESENTATION OF EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENTS
[0032] Fig. 1 shows a seating arrangement 2 for a cabin 4 of a means of transport, wherein the cabin 4 is embodied, for example, as an aircraft cabin. This has an aisle 6 extending in a longitudinal direction or along a longitudinal axis x. The longitudinal direction x could coincide with the longitudinal axis in an aircraft-fixed coordinate system. The aisle 6 is, for example, rectilinear and has a substantially constant width. This could be at least 15 inches (approximately 38 cm) and preferably at least 16 inches (approximately 40.6 cm) to allow the transport of a full-size trolley. Parallel to the aisle 6, two spaced-apart cabin walls 8 are provided, which laterally delimit the cabin 4. Outer passenger seating areas 10 (left in the longitudinal direction) and 12 (right in the longitudinal direction) are located between each cabin wall 8 and the aisle.
[0033] In the passenger seating areas 10 and 12, which are separated from each other by the aisle 6, several rows of seats 14 are provided. These have a first seat module 16, which is located inside the cabin 4 and faces the aisle 6. Further outwards and directly adjacent to the first seat module 16 is a second seat module 18. Further outwards is a third seat module 20. All seat modules 16, 18 and 20 each have a seat 22. The first seat module 16 and the third seat module 20 additionally have an ottoman 24. The second seat module 18, however, has a foldable footrest 26. The individual seat modules 16, 18 and 20 are not arranged directly next to each other, but are offset from each other in the longitudinal direction x.
[0034] The third seat module 20, which directly adjoins the respective cabin wall 8, is offset in the longitudinal direction x relative to the second seat module 18 such that the seat 22 of the third seat module 20 adjoins the footrest 26 of the second seat module 18 in the transverse direction. This makes it possible to pass from the aisle 6 past the first seat module 16 and the second seat module 18 to the seat 22 of the third seat module 20. Therefore, passing through the first seat module 16 and the second seat module 18 is not necessary.
[0035] As shown further to the right in the drawing, a passage width d is provided, which could be relatively narrow. For example, at least 9 inches (approximately 22 cm) is mentioned. This is easily possible, particularly due to the relatively low height of the ottoman 24 of the first seating module 16, because the user walking between two consecutive first seating modules 16 does not feel cramped.
[0036] The seat 22 of the second seat module 18 can also be reached directly from the aisle 6 by pivoting the footrest 26 into a vertical position. To reach the second seat module 18, it is also not necessary to pass through the first seat module 16. The particularly advantageous use of space in the cabin 4 is also achieved by the shared use of a passage from the aisle 6 to the second seat module 18 and the third seat module 20.
[0037] The first seating module 16 is also directly and immediately accessible from aisle 6, as an access 28 between the seat 22 and the ottoman 24 leads directly into aisle 6.
[0038] The seats 22 each have two laterally arranged armrests 30. The seats 22 of the first seat module 16 and the second seat module 18 are offset from one another in the longitudinal direction such that the armrest 30, which is directed towards the adjacent seat module 16 or 18, is longitudinally connected to the armrest 30 of the seat 22 of the other seat module 16 or 18. Users sitting on the seat 22 can therefore use the armrests 30 comfortably and without being disturbed by the adjacent user. In the third seat module 20, the seat 22 is spaced far enough from the seats of the other seat modules 16 and 18 that completely unobstructed use of the armrests 30 is possible there as well.
[0039] Each seat module 16, 18, and 20 has a partition wall 32 that surrounds at least part of the respective seat 22 and is suitable for shielding the respective user. This provides the users with a certain degree of privacy, significantly increasing the comfort level of each user.
[0040] At least the partition wall 32 between the aisle-side and middle seats 22 could be advantageously shaped with an S-bend in order to improve access to the seats.
[0041] A further advantageous embodiment enables an increase in the available space if an S-shaped partition wall 32 is provided in and immediately in front of the shoulder area of both seats 22 adjacent to a partition wall 32, wherein a constant aisle width is ensured between the two partition walls.
[0042] In the exemplary embodiment shown, the ottoman 24 of the third seat module 20 and the footrest 26 of the second seat module 18 have a smaller width than the respective associated seat 22. As a result, considerable space can be saved in the lateral direction due to the laterally adjacent arrangement of the footrest 26 and the seat 22, without the comfort of an individual user suffering.
[0043] The ottoman 24 of the third seating module 20 is flush with the cabin wall 8. The footrest 26, meanwhile, is flush with the ottoman 24 of the first seating module 16. The ottoman 24 of the first seating module 16 could therefore have a substantially identical width to the associated seat 22.
[0044] As already mentioned above, the seats 22 of the first seat module 16 and the second seat module 18 are offset from each other by only a short distance along the longitudinal direction x and are thus arranged practically side by side. In the case shown, the seat 22 of the first seat module 16 is offset slightly forward in the longitudinal direction x. However, the reverse could also be realized, with the seat 22 of the second seat module 18 being offset forward.
[0045] Seat widths of approximately 23 inches (approximately 58.5 cm) are provided purely as an example. It is conceivable to reduce the seat widths to approximately 20 inches (approximately 50.8 cm). A diagonal extension length l of the individual seat modules 16, 18, and 20 could be approximately 75 inches (approximately 190.5 cm) or more. This extension is a measure of the achievable bed length if the seat modules 16, 18, and 20 can assume a reclining position. For this purpose, the seats 22 of the individual seat modules 16, 18, and 20 can be moved approximately parallel to the longitudinal direction x, so that a closed reclining surface (with a pivoted backrest) could be achieved in the individual seat modules 16, 18, and 20. The diagonal extension length l could, for example, be in a range of 70 to 78 inches (approximately 177.8 cm to 198.1 cm). These dimensions can be adjusted upwards or downwards by a few centimeters as needed, depending on individual design criteria.
[0046] Furthermore, a laterally outer boundary of the seat 22 of the second seat module 18 can be closer to the cabin wall belonging to the respective passenger seating area than a laterally inner boundary 25 of the seat 22 of the adjacent third seat module 20. The outer boundary 23 of the seat 22 of the second seat module 18 could, as mentioned above, be in a range of approximately 3 inches (approximately 7.6 cm) to approximately 8 inches (approximately 20.3 cm) closer to the cabin wall 8 than the inner boundary 25 of the seat 22 of the third seat module 20. This also achieves very good space utilization in the lateral direction.
[0047] Due to the particularly advantageous nested arrangement, significant installation space can be saved in the longitudinal direction, which is only indicated qualitatively and by way of example as additional installation space 34. The installation space is also optimized in the transverse direction by the advantageous staggering so that the seating arrangement shown can also be implemented in cabins with a width in the range of 3.7 m to 4.5 m.
[0048] Fig. 2 shows a section of the left outer passenger seat area 10 with the first seat module 16 and the second seat module 18. The illustration is from the direction of the third seat module 20, which has been omitted in this illustration.
[0049] Here, it is shown by way of example that the foldable footrest 26 is pivotally mounted on the ottoman 24 of the adjacent first seat module 16. It can be folded about a hinge axis 36 into a vertically upward storage position or into a horizontal usage position. If the footrest 26 is folded upward, it can lie flush with a panel 38 of the ottoman 24. This exposes a floor 40 located in front of the seat 22, allowing access to the seat 22. For the sake of completeness, the seat 22 is shown with a seat surface 42, a backrest 44, and a headrest 46. The seat surface 42 and the backrest 44 could be moved in the longitudinal direction x, allowing the seat 22 to assume a flat sitting or lying position.
[0050] Furthermore, a pivotable screen 48 can be provided, for example, which can also be pivoted toward the ottoman 24 of the adjacent first seat module 16 to reach the seat 22. The first seat module 16, however, preferably has a fixed screen 50. It is also conceivable to integrate the screen 48 of the second seat module 18 so that it can be extended out of the wall 32.
[0051] The representation in Fig. 1 is one of many possible embodiments. Depending on requirements, the seat arrangement 2 can also be modified by adjusting axial or lateral distances. This is shown, for example, in the Figuren 3a bis 3c shown. In Fig. 3a For example, in the third seat module 20, the greatest possible distance 52 is provided between the seat 22 and the cabin wall 8. This is equivalent to the greatest possible headroom. At the same time, the passage width d is here compared to Fig. 1 The individual seat modules 16, 18 and 20 are therefore spaced much further apart. This could further improve the comfort, but the space gained is not significant compared to Fig. 1 reduced. The larger spacing also allows for a larger aisle width b to be achieved.
[0052] In Fig. 3b the distance 52 to the cabin wall 8 is slightly smaller, but still larger than in Fig. 1 The passage width d is slightly smaller, as is the aisle width b. Fig. 3c largely corresponds to the Fig. 1 and could represent the closest arrangement.
[0053] In Fig. 4 The first seat module 16 is shown in a perspective view. This shows the height of the wall 30 partially surrounding the seat 22. The ottoman 24 assigned to the seat 22 has a footrest (not shown here) on an inner side 54. A storage area 56 is located on the upper side of the ottoman 24. This allows the cabin crew to place a tray, for example, when serving food and drinks. This could also be intended, for example, for a user of the seat 22 of the second seat module 18.
[0054] It may also be advantageous to provide an extendable table or a segmented table instead of or in combination with the storage surface 56. An extendable table may also possibly be provided for mounting an IFE unit or a fold-out screen.
[0055] Fig. 5 shows the three seat modules 16, 18, and 20 of the left outer passenger seating area 10. The offset between the first seat module 16 and the second seat module 18 is clearly visible. Furthermore, a footrest 58 of an ottoman 24 is visible next to the seat 22 of the second seat module 18 and the first seat module 16.
[0056] Finally, Figur 6 an aircraft 60 having a fuselage 62 and a cabin 64 formed therein, in which at least one such seating arrangement 2 is provided.
[0057] It should also be noted that "comprising" does not exclude other elements or steps, and "a" or "an" does not exclude a plurality. Reference signs in the claims are not to be considered limiting. REFERENCE SYMBOL
