AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Ostomy pouches often experience ballooning due to blockage of the filter assembly by body waste, leading to discomfort and inconvenience for users.
Method used
An ostomy pouch with a filter protection system that includes a protective panel with perforations and ridges, intermittently attached to the pouch walls with tack seals, allowing for drainage channels to form and minimizing pouch separation to prevent ballooning.
Benefits of technology
The solution effectively prevents filter clogging, reduces pouch ballooning, and enhances user comfort by allowing for efficient drainage and minimizing gas pressure buildup.

Abstract
An ostomy pouch appliance (10) formed from a body-side pouch wall (14) and a distal pouch wall (12) includes a filter assembly (22) and a protective panel (20) for protecting the filter assembly. The protective panel is arranged between the body-side and distal pouch walls and joined with the pouch walls along a peripheral seal (15). The protective panel is also intermittently attached to the body-side wall by at least one tack seal (42, 44, 48, 50) and intermittently attached to the distal wall by at least one tack seal (32, 34, 46). The protective panel can be formed from a thermally perforated film including a plurality of openings (26) with a ridge (28) around each opening.
