Apparatus and method for welding

Abstract

An apparatus suitable for welding a substrate, comprising a sealed container / chamber 200 and a pump for creating a vacuum within the chamber. The chamber comprises a power source with positive and negative poles. A substrate with a surface comprising uniform peaks is connected to the negative pole, and a material to be welded to the substrate is connected to positive pole. The apparatus may comprise a plurality of capacitors, a Marx generator, a Cockcroft-Walton generator, or a getter for removing oxygen, nitrogen and water vapour. The vacuum pump may comprise a plurality of jet water pumps. [Fig. 2]
