Abstract

This invention relates to a groundwater level indicator stick used to monitor the groundwater level in water management activities on peatlands. This invention is intended to overcome the limitations of conventional measuring sticks that use fixed reference points so that the measurement results can be less representative due to changes in peat surface elevation caused by subsidence, compaction, decomposition of organic materials, or changes in hydrological conditions. The groundwater level indicator stick, according to this invention, consists of a stick equipped with a measuring scale, a support part installed on a relatively stable soil layer, an adaptive peat surface reference system that adjusts the reference position to changes in peat surface elevation, and an indicator for reading the water level against the actual peat surface. With this reference system, measurement results remain aligned with the actual conditions of the peat surface, thus improving the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of long-term water level monitoring. This invention is easy to install, requires no electrical power source, has a simple construction with low maintenance costs, and can be applied to oil palm plantations, peat conservation areas, peat ecosystem rehabilitation, hydrological research, and other environmental monitoring activities.
