Abstract

This food packaging container (tray) is sold in supermarkets, convenience stores, etc. and is sealed by top-sealing a covering film. It has a box-shaped container body with an open top and a flange that extends from the top of the container body to the outer periphery. Because the flange is generally flat, the contents can be sealed by heat-sealing the covering film to the flange. When the covering film is heat-sealed, the air inside the tray is replaced with an inert gas such as nitrogen gas, which suppresses microbial growth and reduces deterioration of the contents, extending the shelf life and contributing to reducing food waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
