Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to polyglyceryl isostearate.

Background Art

[0002] Polyglyceryl isostearate is a surfactant having functions such as emulsification, cleansing, dispersion, and emollient. It is formulated in cosmetics such as cleansing, skin care, hair care, and makeup products, and is particularly used in cleansing cosmetics containing oily components. Cleansing cosmetics include emulsion type, oil type, liquid type, aqueous type, etc., and are used according to their usability. <00000l2>

[0003] Oil-type cleansing cosmetics can remove thick makeup and wash away stubborn makeup stains such as waterproof makeup. Also, they are often used when taking a bath, and it is required that they do not emulsify even when used with wet hands and their cleansing power does not decrease. Liquid-type cleansing cosmetics are inferior to oil-type in terms of the ability to remove makeup stains, but they are likely to provide a refreshing feeling because they contain a large amount of aqueous components. As a liquid type, a cleansing technology of a bicontinuous microemulsion that pursues cleansing power and a refreshing feeling is known (Patent Document 1).

Summary of the Invention

Problems to be Solved by the Invention

[0005] As mentioned above, oil-type and liquid-type cleansing cosmetics are required to be stable and not emulsify even when a large amount of water is added. However, oil-type cleansers emulsify immediately when used with wet hands, reducing their cleansing power. Liquid-type cleansers often require the addition of polyhydric alcohols to stably incorporate oily components, which can result in a sticky texture and odor characteristic of polyhydric alcohols. Therefore, further improvements are needed.

[0006] The present invention relates to providing a novel composition for stably and transparently incorporating water into oily components. [Means for solving the problem]

[0007] The present invention relates to the following conditions [1] to [3]. [1] Polyglyceryl isostearate, which is an ester of a fatty acid and polyglycerol, wherein the proportion of branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms in the constituent fatty acids is 85% by mass or more, and the proportion of fatty acids having a cyclic structure in the branched fatty acids is 10% by mass or less. A cosmetic composition comprising polyglyceryl isostearate as described in [2][1]. A cosmetic comprising the cosmetic composition described in [3][2]. [Effects of the Invention]

[0008] According to the present invention, a novel polyglyceryl isostearate can be provided as a novel composition for stably and transparently incorporating water when blended with oily components. When this composition is blended with an oily component, and water is further added, a transparent microemulsion can be obtained, thus solving the above-mentioned problems of cleansing oils and cleansing liquids. Furthermore, a nanoemulsion that is transparent when a large amount of water is added can be provided. [Modes for carrying out the invention]

[0009] As a result of diligent research by the inventors, it was found that when a specific polyglyceryl isostearate with a low proportion of the cyclic fatty acid newly discovered by the inventors is incorporated into an oily component, water can be incorporated stably and transparently. Although the mechanism is not clear, it is presumed that such polyglyceryl isostearate is less affected by the steric hindrance of the cyclic structure and readily forms self-assembly structures.

[0010] The polyglyceryl isostearate of the present invention is an ester of a fatty acid and polyglycerol, and contains a branched fatty acid with 18 carbon atoms as a constituent fatty acid. Here, branched fatty acid is a general term for fatty acids in which the hydrocarbon chain R in the fatty acid structural formula R-COOH has a branched structure, and also includes fatty acids having a cyclic structure. Examples of cyclic structures include cyclopentane and cyclohexane. In this specification, the description of "polyglyceryl isostearate" also includes polyglyceryl diisostearate.

[0011] The polyglyceryl isostearate of the present invention contains 85% by mass or more, preferably 88% by mass or more, of branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms, from the viewpoint of transparency when hydrated after being blended with oily components. The upper limit can be, for example, 100% by mass or less, 98% by mass or less, 96% by mass or less, or 94% by mass or less, and any combination of these ranges is acceptable. Examples of other constituent fatty acids include myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, arachidic acid, and behenic acid.

[0012] In the polyglyceryl isostearate of the present invention, the proportion of fatty acids having a cyclic structure in the branched fatty acid with 18 carbon atoms is 10% by mass or less, preferably 9% by mass or less, from the viewpoint of transparency when hydrated after being blended with an oily component. The lower limit may be 0% by mass, but from the viewpoint of productivity, it is preferable to have a value greater than 0% by mass, for example, 0.5% by mass or more, 1.0% by mass or more, 2.0% by mass or more, and any combination of these ranges is acceptable.

[0013] In this specification, the proportion of branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms in the constituent fatty acids of polyglyceryl isostearate, and the proportion of fatty acids with a cyclic structure in the branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms, are determined by saponifying polyglyceryl isostearate and measuring the fatty acids extracted by conventional methods using GC-MS.

[0014] In the polyglyceryl isostearate of the present invention, the average degree of polymerization of polyglycerin is preferably 4 to 30, more preferably 6 to 20, and even more preferably 10 to 20. The average degree of polymerization of polyglycerin as used herein is the average degree of polymerization of polyglycerin calculated from the hydroxyl value by end group analysis, and is the average degree of polymerization calculated from (Formula 1) and (Formula 2). (Formula 1) Average degree of polymerization = (112.2×10 3 (-18 × hydroxyl value) / (74 × hydroxyl value - 56.1 × 10 3 ) (Equation 2) Hydroxyl value = (ab) × 28.05 / Amount of sample taken (g) a: Amount of 0.5N potassium hydroxide solution consumed in a blank test (ml) b: Amount of 0.5N potassium hydroxide solution consumed in this test (ml) The hydroxyl value in (Equation 1) above is calculated using (Equation 2) in accordance with "Standard Test Methods for Analysis of Fats and Oils (I), 1996 Edition," compiled by the Japan Oil Chemists' Society.

[0015] The HLB value of polyglyceryl isostearate in the present invention is preferably 8 to 14, more preferably 9 to 13, even more preferably 10 to 13, and even more preferably 11 to 13, from the viewpoint of transparency when hydrated after being blended with an oily component. In this specification, HLB refers to HLB based on the Atlas method and can be easily calculated as follows. HLB = 20(1 - S / A) S: Saponification value of polyglyceryl isostearate A: Acid value of the fatty acids that make up polyglyceryl isostearate

[0016] The polyglyceryl isostearate of the present invention can be obtained by esterifying the above-mentioned specific fatty acid with polyglycerin using a general synthesis method for polyglycerin fatty acid esters, and may be further purified according to known methods. For example, it can be produced by adding a catalyst such as an alkali to the raw materials, polyglycerin and fatty acid, and carrying out an esterification reaction at atmospheric pressure or reduced pressure at 200°C or higher.

[0017] Here, methods for producing the raw material fatty acids include the Garbet process, the aldol condensation method, and methods utilizing by-products from dimer acid production. However, from the viewpoint of reactivity with polyglycerin, it is preferable to produce them using methods utilizing by-products from dimer acid production. More specifically, by adding a clay catalyst such as bentonite to rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, tall oil, soybean oil, palm oil, or beef tallow, and carrying out the reaction under heating and pressure at 200-280°C, a mixture is obtained with dimer acid as the main product and isostearic acid as a by-product. The obtained mixture can be distilled to produce fatty acids mainly composed of isostearic acid. The fatty acids obtained by this production method are mixtures and include fatty acids having a cyclic structure with 18 carbon atoms. Here, if the proportion of fatty acids having a cyclic structure in the branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms in the obtained fatty acids is outside the above range, it can be adjusted to the above range by, for example, molecular distillation, purification, or adjusting the fatty acid composition of the raw materials for dimer acid production. In the present invention, it is preferable to use sunflower oil from the viewpoint of facilitating the adjustment of the proportion of fatty acids having a cyclic structure in the branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms. In this specification, the proportion of branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms in the raw material fatty acids, and the proportion of cyclic fatty acids in the branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms, are measured by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Details are shown in the examples below.

[Examples]

[0027] The present invention will be specifically described below with reference to examples and comparative examples, but the present invention is not limited to these.

[0028] Preparation of fatty acids fatty acid 1 Using sunflower oil as a raw material, a mixture was obtained by conventional methods, with dimer acid as the main component and isostearic acid as a by-product. The resulting mixture was distilled to obtain a fatty acid mainly composed of isostearic acid.

[0029] fatty acids 2-3 Except for using a mixture of sunflower oil and rapeseed oil as raw materials, it was prepared by distillation in the same manner as fatty acid 1.

[0030] fatty acids 4, 6 It was prepared in the same manner as fatty acid 1, except that the degree of purification by distillation was different.

[0031] fatty acids 5 It was prepared in the same manner as fatty acid 1, except that rapeseed oil was used as a raw material.

[0032] Measurement of the content of branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms The fatty acids obtained above were subjected to trimethylsilylation treatment and then analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) under the following conditions to determine the content of 18-C18 branched fatty acids. As a result, it was found that the fatty acids also contained myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, arachidic acid, and behenic acid in addition to 18-C18 branched fatty acids. Therefore, the content of 18-C18 branched fatty acids in the fatty acids was determined by subtracting the peak areas of these other peaks from the total peak area. The content of 18-C18 branched fatty acids in the fatty acids was determined using the following formula (1) based on the area of all peaks appearing at retention times of 12.0-22.0 minutes. The results are shown in Table 1. (GC conditions) Equipment: Agilent Technologies 7890A Column: DB-5HT (Length: 30m, Inner diameter: 0.25mm, Film thickness: 0.10μm) Inlet temperature: 380℃ Injection method: Split Split ratio: 30:1 Oven temperature: Hold at 100°C for 5 minutes, then increase the temperature to 240°C at a rate of 10°C / minute, and hold at 380°C for 17 minutes. Carrier gas: Helium Column flow rate: 1.5 mL / min Linear flow rate: 45.7cm / sec (MS conditions) Equipment: Agilent Technologies 5975C Ionization method: EI, 70 eV Formula (1) The percentage of 18-carbon branched fatty acids in a given fatty acid (by mass) = (1 - A / B) × 100 A: Sum of all peak areas of myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, arachidic acid, and behenic acid in the total ion chromatogram. B: Sum of all peak area values appearing in the total ion chromatogram at retention times of 12.0-22.0 minutes.

[0033] Measurement of the content of fatty acids having a cyclic structure with 18 carbon atoms. From the total ion chromatograms of fatty acids obtained by the GC-MS analysis described above, ion chromatograms with mass-to-charge ratios of 341 and 339 were extracted, respectively. 341 represents the mass-to-charge ratio when a methyl radical is eliminated during ionization from a non-cyclic fatty acid in a trimethylsilylated C18 branched fatty acid, while 339 represents the mass-to-charge ratio when a methyl radical is eliminated during ionization from a cyclic fatty acid in a trimethylsilylated C18 branched fatty acid. The area of all peaks appearing within a retention time of 12.0–22.0 minutes in the ion chromatograms for each mass-to-charge ratio was used to determine the content of cyclic fatty acids in C18 branched fatty acids using the following equation (2). The results are shown in Table 1. Formula (2) The percentage (by mass) of cyclic fatty acids in branched fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms = C / (C+D) × 100 C: Sum of all peak areas appearing in the ion chromatogram with a mass-to-charge ratio of 339 at retention times of 12.0-22.0 minutes. D: Sum of all peak areas appearing in the ion chromatogram with a mass-to-charge ratio of 341 at retention times of 12.0-22.0 minutes.

[0034] Preparation of polyglyceryl isostearate Polyglyceryl isostearate 1-12 As shown in Table 1, sodium methoxide was added to the fatty acids and polyglycerin prepared above, and an esterification reaction was carried out at 260°C under normal pressure to obtain polyglyceryl isostearate.

[0035] [Table 1]

[0036] Preparation of medium-chain fatty acid esters Medium-chain fatty acid esters were obtained by adding sodium hydroxide to medium-chain fatty acids and polyglycerol and carrying out an esterification reaction at atmospheric pressure and 240°C.

[0037] Preparation of cosmetic compositions Examples 1-19, Comparative Examples 1-11 Polyglyceryl isostearate listed in Table 1, along with auxiliary surfactants such as decaglyceryl pentacaprylate, hexaglyceryl dicaprate, diglyceryl sesquicaprylate, hexaglyceryl caprylate, eicosaglyceryl heptacaprylate, eicosaglyceryl pentacaprate, and oily components, were heated and dissolved at 70°C in the compositions shown in Tables 2-4. The mixture was then cooled to room temperature while stirring to produce 100g of cosmetic composition.

[0038] The details of the ingredients used in the preparation of the cosmetic composition are shown below. Cetyl ethylhexanoate (Exceparl HO) ... Kao Corporation Ethylhexyl palmitate (Saracos P-8) ... Nisshin Oillio Group Co., Ltd. Hydrogenated polyisobutene (Pearlream 4) ... NOF Corporation Isododecane (Marcazole®) ... Maruzen Petrochemical Co., Ltd. Isononyl isononanoate (Saracos 99) ... Nisshin Oillio Group, Ltd.

[0039] Water addition test For each example and comparative example, 20 g of the cosmetic composition was taken, and water was added in small amounts and stirred to prepare the solution. The critical water content at which stability and transparency could be maintained was investigated. The diluted cosmetic composition was stored at room temperature, and if it did not separate the next day and maintained a transmittance of 50% or higher, it was considered stable and transparent. Transmittance was measured at a wavelength of 650 nm using a spectrophotometer manufactured by Hitachi High-Tech Science Co., Ltd., with 2.5 ml of the diluted cosmetic composition placed in a quartz cell with an optical path length of 1.0 cm. Here, the transmittance of ion-exchanged water was set to 100%. When the weight of 20 g of the cosmetic composition was set to 100%, the water content (%) was calculated from the amount of water added (g) as shown in equation (3). When the critical water content was 1000% or higher, the critical water content was set to 1000%. The results are shown in Tables 2 to 4. Formula (3) Water addition rate (%)=E / 20×100 E: Amount of water added (g)
