AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

State-of-the-art pivotable storage cassettes in optical access networks cause tension on optical fiber elements when rotated from the loading to storage position, leading to potential attenuation and signal loss.

Method used

A fiber management cassette with a winding area, fiber passageway, pivot element, and anti-pull tab, which allows for slack routing of optical fiber elements, reducing tension by using a flexible anti-pull tab and modular design with fixing elements to minimize strain during rotation.

Benefits of technology

The solution effectively relieves tension on optical fiber elements during rotation, minimizing attenuation and signal loss, and ensuring efficient installation and storage within optical joint closures.

Abstract

It is disclosed a fiber management cassette for storing loops of one or more optical fiber elements. The cassette comprises: a winding area to accommodate the loops of one or more optical fiber elements; a fiber passageway adjacent to the winding area, the fiber passageway allowing the optical fiber elements to enter and exit the cassette; a pivot element located in the proximity of the fiber passageway, the pivot element being configured to pivot the cassette around a pivot axis perpendicular to a bottom surface of the cassette; and an anti-pull tab comprising a leg extending towards the bottom surface. The anti-pull tab is located in the proximity of the fiber passageway, and the leg is configured to be moved upwards to arrange the optical fiber elements in the fiber passageway underneath the anti-pull tab.
