AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing technologies struggle to provide three-dimensional images with a wide viewing angle using lenticular lenses, due to difficulties in implementing high refractive index materials and increased crosstalk from sub-image view overlap.

Method used

The use of Gradient-Index (GRIN) lenses with alternating convex and concave lenses in multiple lens sheets, along with a compensation layer and electrode pairs made of ElectroActive Polymer (EAP), allows for the creation of a display module that can switch between 3D and 2D images while maintaining a wide viewing angle.

Benefits of technology

This solution enables the display module to efficiently provide three-dimensional images with a significantly wider viewing angle compared to traditional lenticular lens technologies, while also reducing chromatic aberration and allowing for 2D/3D switching without auxiliary equipment.

Abstract

Disclosed are a display module, an electronic device, and a control method of the electronic device. Specifically, the display module includes: a light emitter which emits light corresponding to image data through a plurality of pixels; and a plurality of lens sheets each including a plurality of gradient index (GRIN) lenses which operate as a convex lens or a concave lens on the basis of different refractive indices dependent on the position in the lens, wherein the plurality of GRIN lenses each include a plurality of first lenses operating as convex lenses and a plurality of second lenses operating as concave lenses, the plurality of first lenses and the plurality of second lenses are alternately disposed in the plurality of lens sheets, and while light for providing a three-dimensional image is being emitted from the light emitter, the plurality of first lenses included in a first lens sheet among the plurality of lens sheets may be disposed above the plurality of first lenses included in a second lens sheet among the plurality of lens sheets.
