Method for controlling a compressor installation (1) comprising a compressor device (2) and a heat recovery system (3) that supplies the recovered heat to a heat network (7), which includes the steps of: - providing mathematical models (22) of the compressor device (2) and heat recovery system (3); - providing the costs (24) of electricity; - providing the desired pressure range (26) of the compressed gas and desired temperature range (27) of the heat network (7); - providing a control algorithm (28) that controls the speed of the compressor device (2) and the fluid flow in the heat recovery system (3);where the control algorithm (28), using mathematical models (22), determines a control sequence (29) of the fluid flow in the heat recovery system (3) and of the speed of the compressor device (2), such that the desired temperature range (27) and the desired pressure range (26) are delivered, taking into account the cost (24) of electricity, so that the total cost is minimal.;
