Abstract
The invention provides a system (100) for sorting and classifying predetermined metal scrap from a stream of post-consumer scrap. The predetermined metal is at least one of Zn, Zn alloy, Mg and Mg alloy. The system (100) includes a transport system (110) for receiving and transporting the stream through the system (100). The system (100) includes at least one XRF detector (140) to detect the predetermined metal scrap in the stream. The system (100) is configured to remove scrap from the stream that is not detected as the predetermined metal scrap by at least one XRF detector (140). The system (100) includes at least one LIBS detector (170) to detect the predetermined metal scrap in the stream. At least one LIBS detector (170) is located downstream of at least one XRF detector (140).The system (100) is configured to remove scrap from the stream that is not detected as the predetermined metal scrap by at least one LIBS detector (170).
