Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to control valves and, more particularly, to flexible hose motion regulation systems and methods for control valves, such as rotary valves. Background Art

[0002] Process control systems often use control valves such as rotary valves, including ball valves, butterfly valves, eccentric disk valves, eccentric plug valves, etc. to control the flow of process fluids. Rotary valves often include a valve trim assembly having a valve seat disposed in a fluid path and surrounding a flow orifice, and a fluid control element (e.g., a valve disc, a valve ball, etc.) disposed in the fluid path and rotatably coupled to the body of the valve via a shaft. To control the flow of fluid through certain rotary valves, the position of the fluid control element can be changed from a closed position, in which the fluid control element is sealingly engaged with the valve seat, thereby preventing the fluid from flowing through the flow orifice, to a fully open or maximum flow rate position, in which the fluid control element is spaced apart from the valve seat, thereby allowing the fluid to flow through the flow orifice.

[0003] In certain specific applications of process control, the fluid must always remain in the liquid or gas phase in the process line. In one example, steam is used as a medium to keep the fluid temperature at a desired high point. For example, when certain equipment such as valves are introduced into the process, the entire internal parts that are in direct contact with the fluid must be heated by steam.

[0004] In some rotary valves, such as the rotary valve 10 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 , steam is often pressurized into a port 12 disposed on a drive shaft 14 of the rotary valve 10, which is separate from a steam line (not shown). The steam then flows through a passage 16 disposed in the drive shaft 14, and extends into a valve disc 18 of the rotary valve 10, and finally flows out of a port 20 disposed on a follower shaft 22. A fixed flange 24 is used as an inlet for the steam input and is adapted to be connected to a steam line (not shown).

[0005] In some examples, referring now to Figures 3 and 4, a flexible hose 26 has been used to connect with the fixed flange 24 and the drive shaft 14 of the rotary valve 10. During a typical operating cycle, the drive shaft 14 rotates from a closed position, such as the 0 degree position, to an open position, such as the 90 degree position. In operation, this opening and closing cycle of the rotary valve 10 may occur more than 100 times per day.

[0006] However, existing flexible hoses are not designed for specific control equipment and process configurations, and most of them have designs that are different from each other. The supplier of the existing flexible hoses for control valve equipment provides some instructions for flexible hose installation and connection, but only provides very basic guidance, which often cannot be used for specific conditions. Therefore, existing flexible hoses 26 are used in an arbitrary manner without considering the safety and reliability of use. For example, and as described in Figures 3 and 4, flexible hoses 26 are often significantly twisted in different motion planes during use. In addition, the end 28 of flexible hose 26 also rotates with the rotation of drive shaft 14. This inappropriate configuration causes hose damage and shortens the service life of both flexible hose 26 and control valve 10. Summary of the invention

[0053] The present disclosure is directed to a hose motion regulating system for a control valve such as a rotary valve. In one example, the hose motion regulating system includes a bracket having a tracking track assembly attached thereto and a plurality of car carriers (also referred to as bracket carriers) coupled to the tracking track assembly. A drive modular assembly includes a driver block coupled to one of the plurality of car carriers. The driver block is also coupled to a valve shaft of the control valve to drive (e.g., rotate) the control valve to and from various positions, including, for example, from a closed position to an open position and from an open position to a closed position. A fastening assembly includes at least one movable clamping base and a fixed clamping base mounted to the car carrier. The slave modular assembly is driven by the drive modular assembly to regulate the movement of the hose along the tracking track assembly, and includes a straightening component and a bending component. The hose is disposed in the straightening component and the bending component, and is clamped to the plurality of car carriers via the fastening assembly. The segment of the hose disposed on the straightening component is only allowed to move in a single plane (e.g., in an axial direction), thereby preventing any radial movement. When the actuator block moves to rotate the valve shaft to move the control valve back and forth between the open and closed positions, the section of the hose disposed on the curved member moves only along the path formed by the curved member, for example, preventing any twisting or undesired directional movement of the hose. Therefore, damage such as due to excessive twisting and wear of the hose occurs less, and both the hose and the control valve enjoy a longer service life.

[0054] Referring now to FIGS. 5 and 6 , a control valve 100 according to the present disclosure is depicted. The control valve 100 includes a valve body 112 defining a control passage 114. A control element 116 is disposed within the control passage 114 via a valve shaft 118, for example, to control fluid flow in the control passage 114. Portions of a hose motion adjustment system 120 of the present disclosure are coupled to the valve shaft 118 and control the position and movement of a hose 122 for carrying steam, as explained in more detail below.

[0055] Reference now Figure 7, depicts a perspective view of a fully assembled hose movement adjustment system 120. The hose movement adjustment system 120 includes a bracket 124, a tracking track assembly 126 mounted to the bracket 124, and a plurality of vehicle mounts 128 coupled to the tracking track assembly 126. The hose movement adjustment system 120 also includes a drive modular assembly 130 for driving the valve shaft 118 to rotate to and from various positions to control the state of the control valve 100, such as from an open position to a closed position, and vice versa. The fastening assembly 132 includes at least one movable clamping base 134 and at least one fixed clamping base 136 mounted on a movable vehicle mount 128 of the plurality of vehicle mounts 128. The fastening assembly 132 helps to secure the hoses of the hose movement adjustment system 120 to the plurality of vehicle mounts 128, as also explained in more detail below.

[0056] In addition, the hose motion regulating system 120 also includes a slave modular assembly 138, which is driven by the driving modular assembly 130 to regulate the movement of the hose along the tracking track assembly 126. The slave modular assembly 138 includes a straightening component 140 and a bending mechanism 142 such as a bending component 142. The straightening component 140 maintains the section of the hose disposed on the straightening component 140 in a single plane, such as only an axial direction, preventing any radial movement of the hose, including twisting of the hose 122.

[0057] The hose 122 is coupled to the plurality of vehicle carriers 128 via the fastening assembly 132 and is disposed between the straightening component 140 and the bending component 142 of the slave modular assembly 138. So configured, and as explained in more detail below, for example, the slave modular assembly 138 is driven by the driving modular assembly 130 to adjust the movement of the hose 122 along the tracking track assembly 126. For example, the straightening component maintains the axial position of the segment of the hose 122 disposed in the straightening component, preventing any radial movement of the hose 122. Additionally, a portion of the fastening assembly 132 maintains a fixed position of one end of the hose 122 during any movement of the other segments of the hose 122, preventing any twisting of the hose 122 at the end.

[0058] Reference now Figures 8A-8C , depicting a tracking rail assembly 126 and a plurality of vehicle carriers 128. Fig. 8A In the embodiment, the tracking track assembly 126 is disposed on the bracket 124, wherein a plurality of vehicle carriers 128 are disposed on respective segments of the tracking track assembly 126. The tracking track assembly 126 includes a pair of straight tracks 146 disposed parallel to each other and a curved segment 148 attached to one of the straight tracks 146 of the pair of straight tracks 146, such as Figure 8BThe curved section 148 includes a 90 degree curved track having a radius equal to or greater than the minimum dynamic radius of the hose 122 that is typically provided by suppliers of regulating hoses used with control valves such as the control valve 100, for example.

[0059] In one example, the plurality of vehicle mounts 128 includes six vehicle mounts 155. Figure 8C As depicted, the first pair of vehicle carriers is disposed on a first straight track 154 of a pair of straight tracks and includes a first vehicle carrier 155a and a second vehicle carrier 155b. The second pair of vehicle carriers is disposed on a second straight track 156 of a pair of straight tracks 146 and includes a third vehicle carrier 155c and a fourth vehicle carrier 155d. The third pair of vehicle carriers is disposed on a curved section 148 of the tracking track assembly 126 and includes a fifth vehicle carrier 155e and a sixth vehicle carrier 155f. One of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that the plurality of vehicle carriers 128 may include fewer than or more than six vehicle carriers and still fall within the scope of the present disclosure.

[0060] Reference now Figures 9A-9B The driving modular assembly 130 further includes a driver head 157 coupled to one of the plurality of vehicle carriers 128 (e.g., a fifth vehicle carrier 155e disposed on the curved section 148 of the tracking track assembly 126). The driving modular assembly 130 further includes a driver arm 158 having a first end 158a coupled to the driver block 160 and a second end 158b coupled to the driver head 157. As configured, the driver arm 158 secures the driver block 160 to the driver head 157. A first vehicle carrier 155 (e.g., a first movable vehicle carrier or a fifth vehicle carrier 155e in one example) of a pair of vehicle carriers disposed on the curved section 148 is coupled to a second vehicle carrier of the pair of vehicle carriers disposed on the curved section 148 via a swing bolt 162. In one example, the second vehicle carrier is a second movable vehicle carrier 155f or a sixth vehicle carrier 155f of the plurality of vehicle carriers 128. As will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, various other securing mechanisms that may function in a similar or identical manner to the swing bolt 162 may alternatively be used to secure the pair of vehicle mounting members together and still fall within the scope of the present disclosure.

[0061] Reference now Figures 10A-10D, depicting various parts of the fastening assembly 132. For example, the at least one movable clamping base 134 of the fastening assembly 132 may include a first movable clamping base 134a, which is attached to a first vehicle-carrying member of a pair of vehicle-carrying members 155 disposed on the curved section 148, such as a fifth vehicle-carrying member 155e of the plurality of vehicle-carrying members 128. In addition, the second movable clamping base 134b may be attached to a second vehicle-carrying member of a pair of vehicle-carrying members disposed on the curved section 148, such as a sixth vehicle-carrying member 155f of the plurality of vehicle-carrying members 128. The at least one fixed clamping base 136 may include a fixed end 122a ( Figure 7 ) and a second fixed clamping base 136b attached to one end 164 of the straight track 146 of the tracking track assembly 126.

[0062] In another example, the fastening assembly 132 further includes a movable member 166 that can be attached to one or more of the movable clamping bases 134a, 134b or the fixed clamping bases 136a, 136b. The movable member 166 is adapted to slide on the movable clamping bases 134a, 134b, for example, along the radial direction of the curved section 148 of the tracking track assembly 126, so as to compensate for any radial displacement of the vehicle mounting member 155, such as the vehicle mounting member 155e, 155f, when moving from the curved section 148 to the straight track 146, 156.

[0063] In addition, if Fig. 10C and 10D The depicted locking mechanism 168 can be mounted to the movable member 166 to further secure the hose 122. In one example, the locking mechanism 168 includes a lower clamp 170 mounted to the movable member 166 and having ends 170a, 170b. An upper clamp 172 also having ends 172a, 172b can be coupled to the lower clamp 170 such that the ends 170a, 170b of the lower clamp 170 are attached to the ends 172a, 172b of the upper clamp 172, forming a recess 174 ( Fig. 10C and 10D ). In addition, Fig. 10D As depicted, a gasket 173 may be disposed between the lower clamp 170 and the upper clamp 172 .

[0064] Now refer to Fig.11, depicts an exemplary movement path of the hose 122 along and between the straight tracks 146 of the tracking track assembly 126. More specifically, the hose 122 is capable of moving in a back-and-forth axial direction AD-AD along a portion of the path defined by the straight tracks 146. The segments of the hose 122 disposed between the straight tracks 146 move in a radial direction, limited by the structure and distance between the straight tracks 146 and the curved components 142 of the modular assembly 138, as explained in more detail below.

[0065] Now refer to Fig.12 , depicting a straightening component 140 from the modular assembly 138. In this example, two straightening components 140 are disposed on a portion of each straight track 146 of the tracking track assembly 126. In other words, more specifically, each straightening component 140 is disposed on a vehicle carrier 155 (e.g., a first vehicle carrier 155a and a third vehicle carrier 155c) of each straight track 146 to keep the movement of the hose 122 in a single plane, e.g., only in the axial direction. Thus, any twisting of the hose 122 is avoided.

[0066] Reference now Fig.13 , the bending mechanism 142 (e.g., bending component 142) is depicted as being disposed on and between the straight tracks 146. In one example, the bending component 142 includes a plurality of subcomponents 176. The plurality of subcomponents 176 include a first subcomponent 176a disposed at a 0 degree position relative to the axis A of an annular portion C formed by a section of the hose 122 between the first and second straight tracks 154, 156, respectively. The annular portion C includes a radius R equal to the minimum dynamic radius required in the manufacturing specifications of the hose 122. The second subcomponent 176b is disposed at a 45 degree position relative to the annular portion C, the third subcomponent 176c is disposed at a 90 degree position relative to the annular portion C, the fourth subcomponent 176d is disposed at a 135 degree position relative to the annular portion C, and the fifth subcomponent 176e is disposed at a 180 degree position relative to the annular portion C.

[0067] In another example, and now see Fig.14A , 14B , 15A, 15B and 16, each subassembly 176 includes a positioning roller 178 ( Fig.16 ) and clamping roller 180( Fig. 14B and 15B ). The clamping roller 180 is disposed on the bearing bracket 182, and the positioning roller 178 is coupled to the arm bracket 184, and the arm bracket 184 is attached to the base plate 186 of the bearing bracket 182 to couple the positioning roller 178 to the clamping roller 180. In one example, the curved member 176 may include a first curved member 176a (such as Fig.14Aas shown) or the second curved member 176b (as shown Fig.15A In this example, the first curved part 176a is arranged at 0 degrees and 180 degrees relative to the circle C mentioned above. In addition, the second curved part 176b is arranged at one or more of 45 degrees, 90 degrees, or 135 degrees relative to the circle C mentioned above. Fig. 14B and 15B As further depicted in FIG. 1 , a first bearing bracket 182a is used with the first curved member 176a and a second bearing bracket 182b is used with the second curved member 176b.

[0068] Now refer to Fig.17 In order to install the hose movement adjustment system 120, the valve shaft 118 of the control valve 100 must first be set to a position corresponding to the closed position of the control valve 100. Next, the driver block 160 is fixed to the valve shaft 118 by the shaft connecting rod 180, the washer lock 181 and the lock nut 182. More specifically, and in an example, the valve shaft 118 includes a pair of threaded holes 183 disposed on the valve shaft 118, and the driver block 160 includes a pair of corresponding holes 184 for receiving the shaft connecting rod 180. The driver block 160 is disposed adjacent to the threaded hole 183 of the valve shaft 118 so that the hole 184 of the driver block 160 is aligned with the hole 183 of the valve shaft 118. The shaft connecting rod 180 is disposed to enter the hole 184 of the driver block 160 and pass through the hole 184 of the driver block 160, and then enter the threaded hole 183 on the valve shaft 118. Then, a washer lock 181 is placed on the end of the shaft connecting rod 180 extending to the outside of the driver block 160, and then a lock nut 182 is placed on each end of the shaft connecting rod 180 to fix the shaft connecting rod 180 to the driver block 160 and within the valve shaft 118. In addition, a fitting 185 is fixed to another threaded hole 186 provided on the valve shaft 118, and the fitting 185 is used to receive one end of the flexible hose 122, as explained in more detail below.

[0069] Now refer to Fig.18, the tracking track assembly 126 is then mounted to the bracket 124, and a plurality of vehicle carriers 128 are disposed on the tracking track assembly 126. More specifically, and in one example, six vehicle carriers 155a-f of the plurality of vehicle carriers 128 are disposed on the tracking track assembly 126 such that the first and second vehicle carriers 155a and 155b are disposed on one of the two straight tracks 146, the third and fourth carriers 155c and 155d are disposed on the other of the two straight tracks 146, and the fifth and sixth vehicle carriers 155e and 155f are disposed on the curved section 148. One base holder 187 is fixed to one end of one of the straight tracks 146, and another base holder 187 is mounted to the bracket 124 adjacent to the base holder 187 fixed to the straight track 146. In addition, a base holder 188 is fixed to each of the vehicle carriers 155e and 155f initially disposed on the curved track 148, the vehicle carrier 155e supporting a portion of the drive modular assembly 130 as explained above. The movable clamping bases 134a and 134b are then fixed to each of the base holders 188, which are fixed to the vehicle carriers 155e, 155f, and the fixed clamping bases 136a and 136b are fixed to the base holder 187.

[0070] Reference now Fig.19 , the inlet flange 188 is secured to a flange bracket 189 which is attached to the base holder 187 (see also Fig. 20 As explained more below, an external steam line may be connected to inlet flange 188 to direct steam through hose 122 and valve shaft 118 .

[0071] like Fig. 20 As depicted, straightening component 140 from modular assembly 138 is then secured to vehicle mounts 155a and 155c of plurality of vehicle mounts 128. Additionally, curved component 142, which includes five sub-components 176a-176e, is secured to tracking track assembly 126 and some of plurality of vehicle mounts 128.

[0072] like Fig.21A and Fig. 21B As depicted, the hose 122 is then assembled and disposed within the fixed clamping bases 136a and 136b, the straightening member 140, the bending member 142, and the movable clamping bases 134a, 134b disposed on the vehicle mounts 155e, 155f, as explained above.

[0073] like Fig. 22As depicted, the fitting system 190 is then mounted to the hose motion regulating system 120. The fitting system 190 includes a connector 191, which may be an L-shaped connector having a first end 191a coupled to a fitting 185 disposed on the valve shaft 118 and a second end 191b coupled to another fitting 192 attached to the other end of the hose 122 fixed within the drive modular assembly 130. So configured, the fitting system 190 couples the hose 122 to the valve shaft 118, allowing steam from the hose to pass through and enter the valve shaft 118. In addition, a steam line (not shown) is then connected, for example, to the inlet flange 188 to connect the steam line to the other end of the hose 122 disposed within the fixed clamping base 136a. In operation, when the steam line is actuated, steam flows from the steam line into the inlet flange 188, through the hose 122, into the connector 191 and to the valve shaft 118.

[0074] So configured and once the installation of the hose movement regulation system 120 is completed, the hose movement regulation system 120 can be operated according to the following method. In one example, the method includes a method of controlling the movement of a hose 122 used with a control valve 100. Specifically, after coupling the hose movement regulation system 120 to the valve shaft 118 of the control valve 100, as explained above, the method can further include setting the control valve 100 to a closed position and maintaining a fixed position of the hose 122 while steam is injected into and / or flows through the hose 122. For example, and as Figure 7 As depicted, steam is compressed from an external steam line (not shown) and flows into the fixed end 122a of the hose 122, travels through the curved portion 122b of the hose 122, passes through the movable portion 122c of the hose, and flows to the movable end 122d of the hose 122, and finally flows through the inlet port 186 ( Fig.17 During this process, the hose 122 is restrained by the hose motion regulation system 120, for example, held in a fixed position.

[0075] When the valve shaft 118 is driven by an actuator (not shown) to rotate from a closed position to an open position, the method further includes moving the hose 122 in a first direction along the curved section 148 and at least one straight track 146 of the tracking track assembly 126 via at least one of the plurality of cart mounts 128. More specifically, and in one example, the actuator arm 158 causes the first movable cart mount (e.g., cart mount 155e) to rotate from a 0 degree position (e.g., Figure 7 The curved section 148 is moved to a 45 degree position (as depicted) along the curved section 148. Fig.24 At the same time, the second movable vehicle-carrying member (e.g., vehicle-carrying member 155f) is moved from the 45-degree position ( Figure 7 and 22) is moved along the curved track 148 to a 90 degree position on the straight track 146 (also as Fig.24 ). Movement occurs when the valve shaft 118 is rotated to the 45 degree position. In one example, the second movable vehicle mount 155f moves to the 90 degree position by traveling 1 / 8 of the circumference of a circle. The movable portion 122c of the hose 122 is clamped to the first and second movable vehicle mounts 155e, 155f and travels along a predetermined path defined by, for example, the curved section 148 and the straight track 146.

[0076] In another example, moving the hose 122 along the curved segment 148 and the at least one straight track 146 of the tracking track assembly 126 via at least one of the plurality of cart mounts 128 in a first direction (e.g., toward the curved member 142) when the control valve 100 moves from the closed position to the open position includes moving a first movable cart mount 155e from a 0 degree position along the curved segment 148 to a 90 degree position on the straight track, and simultaneously moving a second movable cart mount 155f from a 45 degree position along the curved segment 148 to a position farther along the straight track from the 90 degree position, such as Fig.25 This movement occurs when the valve shaft 118 is rotated to the 90 degree position. In one example, the second movable vehicle carrier 155f moves further along the straight track 146 (as noted) by traveling 1 / 8 of the circumference of the circle formed by the curved segment 148 of the tracking track assembly 126. The movable portion 122c of the hose 122 continues to move by traveling 1 / 16 of the circumference of the circle and drives the curved member 142 of the slave modular assembly 138 to move.

[0077] The method further includes restricting the hose 122 (e.g., the movable section 122c of the hose 122) to a modular component 138 (e.g., the straightening component 140) of the hose movement adjustment system 120 so that it cannot move in a radial direction and allowing the hose 122 to move only in one plane, e.g., in an axial direction, when disposed on the straightening component 140.

[0078] In another example, the method may further include moving the hose 122 along a predetermined path defined by at least one straight track 146 and a curved segment 148 of the tracking track assembly 126 via at least one vehicle mount in a second direction (e.g., a direction away from the curved member 142) opposite to the first direction when the control valve 100 is moved from the fully open position back to the closed position. In one example, moving the hose 122 along the predetermined path in the second direction when the control valve 100 is moved from the open position back to the closed position includes moving the first movable vehicle mount 155e from a 90 degree position ( Fig.25) is moved to the 0 degree position along the curved section 148, and at the same time the second movable vehicle carrier 155f is moved from a further position relative to the 90 degree position on the straight track 146 ( Fig.25 ) to a 45 degree position along the curved segment 148. In another example, and / or alternatively, moving the hose 122 along the predetermined path in the second direction when the control valve 110 moves from the open position back to the closed position includes moving the first movable cart carrier 155e from the 45 degree position along the curved segment 148 to the 0 degree position along the curved segment 148, and simultaneously moving the second movable cart carrier 155f from the 90 degree position along the straight track 146 to the 45 degree position along the curved segment 148.

[0079] Based on the above, a person of ordinary skill in the art will understand several advantages of the aforementioned hose movement adjustment system 120 and method. For example, and as explained above, the movement of the hose 122 is limited to a single plane, avoiding any twisting condition of the hose. In addition, the configuration of the bending component 142 from the modular assembly 138 allows the hose 122 to bend within a reliable range by limiting the radius of the hose 122 bending to, for example, the minimum dynamic radius announced by the supplier of the hose 122. In addition, the fastening assembly 132 fixes the hose 122 during the movement of the movable vehicle carrier 155e, 155f, for example, transmitting the axial compression and tension forces from the hose 122 to the components of the hose movement adjustment system 120. Therefore, the expansion and release failure of the hose 122 is eliminated. In addition, the various components of the above-mentioned fastening assembly 132 are, for example, able to provide a continuously variable clamping force during the adjustment of the hose movement adjustment system 120 so as to achieve an ideal friction state. In this way, the hose 122 moves along a path defined at least in part by the tracking track assembly 126, avoiding the introduction of additional wear on the outer surface of the hose 122. In addition, the hose movement adjustment system can be adjusted to accommodate different lengths of hoses within a certain range, for example, and the assembly, disassembly and maintenance of the hose movement adjustment system 120 are simplified due to the various modular components and assemblies explained above.

[0080] More generally, the hose motion regulation system 120 and method of the present disclosure facilitates regulating the hose 122 to move in a desired manner, as explained in detail above. The hose motion regulation prevents the hose 122 from interfering with other components of the overall system, including the control valve 100, causing unpredictable collisions, entanglements, wear and other problems with the hose, reducing the useful life of the hose. In addition, the subassembly of the curved component 142 includes a rotating device that guides the hose 122 along a desired path in the curved component 142, such that, for example, only rolling friction occurs between the outer surface of the hose 122 and the rotating components of the curved component 142. As a result, wear of the hose 122 is significantly reduced compared to conventional systems and methods.

[0081] In addition, the hose movement regulating system 120 and method can be used for ambient environments or high temperature and high pressure applications by using specific materials for each component. As described above, the modular design of the various components of the hose regulating system 120 together with the quick connect fittings make the assembly, adjustment and maintenance of the hose movement regulating system 120 easier than traditional systems. In addition, depending on the application, such as the control valve, flexible installation of the hose movement regulating system 120 is available, such as a vertical installation type.
