[0040] In the following description, for the purpose of explanation, many specific details are set forth to provide a thorough understanding of various exemplary embodiments or embodiments of the present invention. As used herein, "embodiment" and "embodiment" are interchangeable words, which are non-limiting examples of devices or methods using one or more of the inventive concepts disclosed herein. However, it is apparent that various exemplary embodiments can be practiced without these specific details or with one or more equivalent arrangements. In other cases, well-known structures and devices are shown in the form of block diagrams to avoid unnecessary ambiguity of various exemplary embodiments. In addition, various exemplary embodiments may be different, but need not be exclusive. For example, without departing from the inventive concept, the specific shape, configuration and characteristics of the exemplary embodiment may be used or implemented in another exemplary embodiment.

[0041] Unless otherwise specified, the exemplary embodiments shown should be understood as providing exemplary features of varying details of some ways in which the inventive concept can be implemented in practice. Therefore, unless otherwise specified, the features, components, modules, layers, films, panels, regions and / or aspects of various embodiments (hereinafter individually or collectively referred to as "elements") can be combined, separated, interchanged and / or rearranged in other ways without departing from the inventive concept.

[0042] The use of cross hatching and / or shading is generally provided in the drawings to clarify the boundaries between adjacent elements. Therefore, the presence or absence of cross hatching or shading does not convey or indicate any preference or requirement for a particular material, material property, size, ratio, commonality between the elements shown, and / or any other characteristics, attributes, properties, etc. of the elements, unless otherwise stated. In addition, in the drawings, the size and relative size of the elements may be exaggerated for the purpose of clarity and / or description. When the exemplary embodiments can be implemented differently, a specific process sequence can be performed differently from the described sequence. For example, two consecutively described processes can be performed substantially simultaneously, or in an order opposite to the described sequence. Likewise, the same reference numerals represent the same elements.

[0043] When an element such as a layer is referred to as being "on", "connected to" or "coupled to" another element or layer, it may be directly on, directly connected to or coupled to the other element or layer, or there may be an intervening element or layer. However, when an element or layer is referred to as being "directly" "on", "directly connected to" or "directly coupled to" another element or layer, there is no intervening element or layer. For this reason, the term "connection" may refer to a physical connection, an electrical connection and / or a fluid connection with or without an intervening element. For the purposes of this disclosure, "at least one of X, Y and Z" and "at least one selected from the group consisting of X, Y and Z" may be interpreted as only X, only Y, only Z, or any combination of two or more of X, Y and Z, such as, for example, XYZ, XYY, YZ and ZZ. As used herein, the term "and / or" includes any and all combinations of one or more of the relevant listed items.

[0044] Although the terms "first", "second", etc. may be used herein to describe various types of elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are used to distinguish one element from another element. Therefore, without departing from the teachings of the present disclosure, the first element discussed below may be referred to as the second element.

[0045] For descriptive purposes, spatially relative terms such as "below," "beneath," "under," "lower," "above," "upper," "above," "higher," "side" (e.g., as in "sidewall"), etc. may be used herein and thereby describe the relationship of one element to another element shown in the drawings. Spatially relative terms are intended to include different orientations of the device in use, operation, and / or manufacture in addition to the orientation depicted in the drawings. For example, if the device in the drawings is turned over, an element described as being "below" or "below" other elements or features will then be oriented "above" the other elements or features. Thus, the exemplary term "below" can include both above and below orientations. In addition, the device can be oriented in other ways (e.g., rotated 90 degrees or in other orientations), and therefore, the spatially relative descriptors used herein should be interpreted accordingly.

[0046] The terms used herein are used for the purpose of describing specific embodiments and are not intended to be limiting. As used herein, the singular forms "a", "an" and "the" are intended to also include plural forms, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. In addition, when the terms "comprises", "comprising", "includes" and / or "including" are used in this specification, the existence of the stated features, integral bodies, steps, operations, elements, parts and / or groups thereof is specified, but the existence or addition of one or more other features, integral bodies, steps, operations, elements, parts and / or groups thereof is not excluded. It should also be noted that, as used herein, the terms "substantially", "about" and other similar terms are used as approximate terms, rather than as terms of degree, and therefore, are used to explain the inherent deviations of the values measured, calculated and / or provided that will be recognized by those of ordinary skill in the art.

[0047] Various exemplary embodiments are described herein with reference to cross-sectional views and / or exploded views that are schematic diagrams of idealized exemplary embodiments and / or intermediate structures. As such, variations in the shapes of the illustrations resulting from, for example, manufacturing techniques and / or tolerances are to be expected. Therefore, the exemplary embodiments disclosed herein are not necessarily to be construed as limited to the specific illustrated shapes of the regions, but rather include deviations in shapes resulting from, for example, manufacturing. In this manner, the regions shown in the drawings may be schematic in nature, and the shapes of these regions may not reflect the actual shapes of the regions of the device, and therefore, are not necessarily intended to be limiting.

[0048] As is customary in the art, some exemplary embodiments are described and shown in the accompanying drawings in terms of functional blocks, units and / or modules. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that these blocks, units and / or modules are physically implemented by electronic (or optical) circuits (such as logic circuits, discrete components, microprocessors, hard-wired circuits, memory elements, wiring connections, etc.) that can be formed using semiconductor-based manufacturing techniques or other manufacturing techniques. In the case where blocks, units and / or modules are implemented by microprocessors or other similar hardware, they can be programmed and controlled using software (e.g., microcode) to perform the various functions discussed herein, and can be optionally driven by firmware and / or software. It is also contemplated that each block, unit and / or module can be implemented by dedicated hardware, or as a combination of dedicated hardware that performs some functions and processors (e.g., one or more programmed microprocessors and associated circuits) that perform other functions. In addition, without departing from the scope of the inventive concept, each block, unit and / or module of some exemplary embodiments can be physically divided into two or more interactive and discrete blocks, units and / or modules. Furthermore, the blocks, units and / or modules of some exemplary embodiments may be physically combined into more complex blocks, units and / or modules without departing from the scope of the inventive concept.

[0049] Unless otherwise defined, all terms (including technical and scientific terms) used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by those of ordinary skill in the art to which the present disclosure belongs. Terms such as those defined in commonly used dictionaries should be interpreted as having a meaning consistent with their meaning in the context of the relevant technology and should not be interpreted in an idealized or overly formal sense unless explicitly defined as such herein.

[0050] Figure 1 is a perspective view schematically illustrating a display device according to an exemplary embodiment.

[0051] In the present disclosure, the terms "upper", "top", "top surface", and "upper surface" may refer to an upper direction (i.e., a Z-axis direction) relative to the display device 1000, and the terms "lower", "bottom", "bottom surface", and "lower surface" may refer to a lower direction (i.e., a direction opposite to the Z-axis direction) relative to the display device 1000. In addition, the terms "left", "right", "upper", and "lower" may refer to directions when the display device 1000 is viewed from a plane. For example, "left" refers to a direction opposite to the X-axis direction, "right" refers to the X-axis direction, "upper" refers to the Y-axis direction, and "lower" refers to a direction opposite to the Y-axis direction.

[0052] refer to Figure 1The display device 1000 can be applied to various electronic devices, including small and medium-sized electronic devices such as tablet PCs, smart phones, car navigation units, cameras, central information displays (CIDs) provided to cars, watch-type electronic devices, personal digital assistants (PDAs), portable multimedia players (PMPs), and game consoles, as well as medium and large-sized electronic devices such as televisions, external billboards, monitors, personal computers, and notebook computers, etc. These are presented only as embodiments, and of course, can be used in other electronic devices without departing from the concept of the present invention.

[0053] The display device 1000 may have a rectangular shape in a plan view. The display device 1000 may include edges having two short sides extending in one direction and two long sides extending in another direction intersecting the one direction. The corner portion where the long side and the short side of the display device 1000 meet on a plane may be vertical. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the corner portion may have a rounded curved shape. The shape of the display device 1000 in a plan view is not limited to the above examples, and may have a square, a circular shape, an elliptical shape, or other shapes.

[0054] The display device 1000 may include a display area DA displaying an image and a non-display area NDA outside the display area DA.

[0055] The display area DA may be an area where a plurality of pixels PX are provided. The display area DA may be disposed on a front surface or a side surface of the display device 1000.

[0056] The non-display area NDA may be an area in which a driving unit for driving a plurality of pixels PX and various wiring units (not shown) connecting the plurality of pixels PX and the driving unit are disposed. The non-display area NDA may be disposed on at least one side of the display area DA. For example, the non-display area NDA may be disposed to surround the display area DA.

[0057] A plurality of pixels PX may be disposed in the display area DA. Each of the plurality of pixels PX may emit light of one of red, green, and blue, but the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, each of the plurality of pixels PX may emit light of any one of cyan, magenta, yellow, and white.

[0058] The plurality of pixels PX may be arranged in a matrix form along a first direction (X-axis direction) and a second direction (Y-axis direction) intersecting the first direction (X-axis direction) to form rows and columns. However, the arrangement of the plurality of pixels PX is not limited thereto and may be modified in various forms.

[0059] Figure 2 is a schematic block diagram of a display device according to an exemplary embodiment.

[0060] refer to Figure 2 , the display device 1000 may include a gate driver GDR, a data driver DDR, and a timing controller TCON.

[0061] A plurality of pixels PX may be positioned at intersections of a plurality of scan lines GL1 to GLn and a plurality of data lines DL1 to DLm to form a matrix, where n and m are positive integers. Each of the plurality of pixels PX may be connected to at least one of the scan lines GL1 to GLn and at least one of the data lines DL1 to DLm.

[0062] The plurality of scan lines GL1 to GLn may extend in a row direction, and the plurality of data lines DL1 to DLm may extend in a column direction. The row direction and the column direction may be interchanged.

[0063] The first power source VDD and the second power source VSS may be supplied to each of the plurality of pixels PX. The first power source VDD and the second power source VSS are voltages required to operate the pixels PX, and the first power source VDD may have a higher voltage level than that of the second power source VSS.

[0064] The gate driver GDR may receive a gate drive control signal GCS such as a scan start signal and a clock signal from the timing controller TCON. The gate driver GDR may also receive a third power supply and a fourth power supply required to operate the gate driver GDR. For example, the third power supply may be a voltage having a logic high level, and the fourth power supply may be a voltage having a logic low level.

[0065] The gate driver GDR may generate a scan signal and sequentially provide the scan signal to the scan lines GL1 to GLn. The gate driver GDR may include a shift register (or stage) that sequentially generates and outputs a scan signal having a pulse shape corresponding to a scan start signal having a pulse shape using a clock signal of the gate drive control signal GCS. The scan signal having a pulse shape generated by the gate driver GDR may be applied to each pixel PX.

[0066] The data driver DDR may generate a data signal based on the image data DATA2 and the data control signal DCS provided from the timing controller TCON, and provide the data signal to the pixel PX. Here, the data control signal DCS may be a signal for controlling the operation of the data driver DDR, and may include a load signal (or a data enable signal) indicating the output of a valid data signal. Each pixel PX may receive a data signal through the data lines DL1 to DLm, and emit light at a brightness corresponding to the data signal.

[0067] The timing controller TCON may receive input image data DATA1 and a control signal CS from an external device (eg, a graphic processor), generate a gate driving control signal GCS and a data control signal DCS based on the control signal CS, and convert the input image data DATA1 to generate image data DATA2 .

[0068] Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of a display device according to an exemplary embodiment. Figure 4 It shows the emission to Figure 3 A cross-sectional view of the path of light on one side of a display device.

[0069] refer to Figure 3 and Figure 4 , the display device 1000 may include a first display substrate 100 , a second display substrate 200 and a liquid crystal layer 300 .

[0070] The first display substrate 100 may include a first substrate 110 , a first polarizing plate 120 , a first polarizing coating layer 130 , a circuit element layer 140 , and a first electrode 150 .

[0071] The first substrate 110 may include a display area DA and a non-display area NDA. A plurality of pixels PX1, PX2, and PX3 may be defined in the display area DA of the first substrate 110. Each of the plurality of pixels PX1, PX2, and PX3 may emit light of a different color. For example, the first pixel PX1 may be a red pixel that emits red light, the second pixel PX2 may be a green pixel that emits green light, and the third pixel PX3 may be a blue pixel that emits blue light. However, the color of light emitted from each of the first pixel PX1, the second pixel PX2, and the third pixel PX3 is not necessarily limited thereto. In another exemplary embodiment, the first pixel PX1, the second pixel PX2, and the third pixel PX3 may emit yellow, magenta, and cyan light, respectively.

[0072] The first substrate 110 may be made of a light-transmitting material. The first substrate 110 may be a glass substrate or a plastic substrate. When the first substrate 110 is a plastic substrate, the first substrate 110 may be flexible.

[0073] The first polarizing plate 120 may be disposed under the first substrate 110. One end of the first polarizing plate 120 may be disposed at an inner side of one end of the first substrate 110.

[0074] The first polarizing plate 120 may be disposed in the display area DA and partially overlap the non-display area NDA. The first polarizing plate 120 may overlap a light blocking layer 245 to be described later in a third direction (Z-axis direction).

[0075] The first polarizing plate 120 may be directly disposed on the bottom surface of the first substrate 110. In other words, the first polarizing plate 120 may be in contact with the first substrate 110.

[0076] The first polarizing plate 120 may be a reflective polarizing plate. The first polarizing plate 120 may transmit light of a polarization component parallel to the polarization axis, but absorb or reflect light of another polarization component.

[0077] The first polarizing coating layer 130 may be disposed on the first substrate 110. The first polarizing coating layer 130 may be disposed between the first substrate 110 and the first polarizing plate 120.

[0078] The first polarizing coating layer 130 may prevent or reduce a viewing angle light leakage in which light from the backlight BLU in the non-display area NDA accidentally travels to the display area DA.

[0079] The first polarizing coating layer 130 may be disposed in the non-display area NDA and partially overlap the display area DA. The first polarizing coating layer 130 may be disposed to overlap a light blocking layer 245 to be described later in a third direction (Z-axis direction).

[0080] The first end of the first polarizing coating layer 130 may be disposed in the display area DA, and the second end of the first polarizing coating layer 130 may be aligned with one end of the first substrate 110. Therefore, even if one end of the first polarizing plate 120 is disposed inside one end of the first substrate 110, the viewing angle light leakage may be prevented or reduced. The first end of the first polarizing coating layer 130 may be directly covered by the first polarizing plate 120.

[0081] Meanwhile, although the first polarizing coating 130 partially intrudes into the display area DA, the generation of dark portions can be minimized due to polarization. For example, if a barrier layer including black ink is used instead of the first polarizing coating 130, a dark portion may appear in the display area DA. In addition, although the first polarizing coating 130 partially intrudes into the display area DA, since there is no significant effect on the display quality, the coating process of the first polarizing coating 130 can be facilitated, and the manufacturing yield of the product can be improved by reducing the standard of the defect rate.

[0082] First polarization

[0083] One surface of the coating layer 130 may be in contact with the first substrate 110 , and the other surface of the first polarizing coating layer 130 may be in contact with the first polarizing plate 120 .

[0084] The thickness of the first polarizing coating 130 may be different from that of the first polarizing plate 120. For example, the thickness of the first polarizing coating 130 may be less than that of the first polarizing plate 120. The polarization axis of the first polarizing coating 130 may be substantially the same as that of the first polarizing plate 120.

[0085] The first polarizing coating 130 may be, for example, a thin crystal film polarizer. The thin crystal film polarizer may have a special molecular crystal structure caused by crystallization of a liquid crystal phase when liquid crystals are applied, aligned, and dried on the film. The liquid crystal phase may include at least one organic material capable of forming a stable concentration transition type liquid crystal phase or a stable temperature transition type liquid crystal phase.

[0086] The circuit element layer 140 may be disposed on the first substrate 110. The circuit element layer 140 may be disposed over the first polarizing plate 120. In other words, the first substrate 110 may be disposed between the circuit element layer 140 and the first polarizing plate 120.

[0087] The circuit element layer 140 may be disposed in the display area DA and the non-display area NDA. The circuit element layer 140 may include a plurality of circuit elements constituting pixel circuits of a plurality of pixels PX1, PX2, and PX3 and wiring for providing various power supplies and signals to drive the plurality of pixels PX1, PX2, and PX3. In this case, the circuit element layer 140 may include various circuit elements such as at least one transistor and a capacitor and a plurality of conductive layers for forming wiring connected to the various circuit elements. In addition, the circuit element layer 140 may include an insulating layer disposed between the plurality of conductive layers. In addition, the circuit element layer 140 may include a wiring unit arranged in the non-display area NDA to provide corresponding power supplies and signals to the wiring connected to the plurality of pixels PX1, PX2, and PX3.

[0088] A plurality of first electrodes 150 may be disposed on the circuit element layer 140 . Each of the plurality of first electrodes 150 may be disposed in a plurality of pixels PX1 , PX2 , and PX3 . Each of the plurality of first electrodes 150 may be electrically connected to a transistor of the circuit element layer 140 .

[0089] Each of the first electrodes 150 may be made of a transparent conductive oxide. For example, each of the first electrodes 150 may include indium tin oxide (ITO), indium zinc oxide (IZO), zinc oxide (ZnO), indium oxide (In 2 O 3 )wait.

[0090] The second display substrate 200 may be disposed on the first display substrate 100 .

[0091] The second display substrate 200 may include a second substrate 210 , a second polarizing plate 220 , a second polarizing coating layer 230 , color filters 241 , 242 , and 243 , a light blocking layer 245 , and a second electrode 250 .

[0092] The second substrate 210 may include a display area DA and a non-display area NDA. A plurality of pixels PX1, PX2, and PX3 may be defined in the display area DA of the second substrate 210.

[0093] The second substrate 210 may be made of a light-transmitting material. The second substrate 210 may be a glass substrate or a plastic substrate. When the second substrate 210 is a plastic substrate, the second substrate 210 may be flexible.

[0094] The second polarizing plate 220 may be disposed on the second substrate 210. One end of the second polarizing plate 220 may be disposed at an inner side of one end of the second substrate 210.

[0095] The second polarizing plate 220 may be disposed in the display area DA and partially overlap the non-display area NDA. The second polarizing plate 220 may overlap a light blocking layer 245 to be described later in a third direction (Z-axis direction).

[0096] The second polarizing plate 220 may be directly disposed on the upper surface of the second substrate 210. In other words, the second polarizing plate 220 may be in contact with the second substrate 210.

[0097] The second polarizing plate 220 may be a reflective polarizing plate. The second polarizing plate 220 may transmit light of a polarization component parallel to the polarization axis, but absorb or reflect light of another polarization component. The polarization axis of the second polarizing plate 220 may cross the polarization axis of the first polarizing plate 120.

[0098] The second polarizing coating layer 230 may be disposed on the second substrate 210. The second polarizing coating layer 230 may be disposed between the second substrate 210 and the second polarizing plate 220.

[0099] The second polarizing coating layer 230 may be disposed in the non-display area NDA and partially overlap the display area DA. The second polarizing coating layer 230 may be disposed to overlap a light blocking layer 245 to be described later in a third direction (Z-axis direction).

[0100] The second polarizing coating layer 230 may block light traveling from the pixels PX1 , PX2 , and PX3 to the non-display area NDA to prevent or reduce viewing angle light leakage.

[0101] The first end of the second polarizing coating layer 230 may be disposed in the display area DA, and the second end of the second polarizing coating layer 230 may be aligned with one end of the second substrate 210. Therefore, even if one end of the second polarizing plate 220 is disposed inside one end of the second substrate 210, the viewing angle light leakage may be prevented or reduced. The first end of the second polarizing coating layer 230 may be directly covered by the second polarizing plate 220.

[0102] Meanwhile, although the second polarizing coating 230 partially intrudes into the display area DA, the generation of dark portions can be minimized due to polarization. For example, if a barrier layer including black ink is used instead of the second polarizing coating 230, a dark portion may appear in the display area DA. In addition, although the second polarizing coating 230 partially intrudes into the display area DA, since there is no significant effect on the display quality, the coating process of the second polarizing coating 230 can be facilitated, and the manufacturing yield of the product can be improved by reducing the standard of the defect rate.

[0103] One surface of the second polarizing coating layer 230 may be in contact with the second substrate 210 , and the other surface of the second polarizing coating layer 230 may be in contact with the second polarizing plate 220 .

[0104] The thickness of the second polarizing coating 230 may be different from the thickness of the second polarizing plate 220. For example, the thickness of the second polarizing coating 230 may be less than the thickness of the second polarizing plate 220. The polarization axis of the second polarizing coating 230 may be substantially the same as that of the second polarizing plate 220.

[0105] The second polarizing coating layer 230 may be made of the same material as the above-described first polarizing coating layer 130 , but the present invention is not necessarily limited thereto.

[0106] Color filters 241, 242, and 243 and a light blocking layer 245 may be disposed under the second substrate 210. The color filters 241, 242, and 243 may be disposed between the second substrate 210 and a liquid crystal layer 300 to be described later.

[0107] The color filters 241, 242, and 243 may be disposed in the display area DA. The color filters 241, 242, and 243 may overlap with the first end of the first polarizing coating 130 and the first end of the second polarizing coating 230 in a third direction (Z-axis direction). In detail, the first end of the first polarizing coating 130 may be disposed in the display area DA to overlap with the color filters 241, 242, and 243 in the third direction (Z-axis direction). The second end of the first polarizing coating 130 may be aligned with one end of the first substrate 110. The first end of the second polarizing coating 230 may be disposed in the display area DA to overlap with the color filters 241, 242, and 243 in the third direction (Z-axis direction). The second end of the second polarizing coating 230 may be aligned with one end of the second substrate 210.

[0108] The color filters 241 , 242 , and 243 may include a first color filter 241 , a second color filter 242 , and a third color filter 243 .

[0109] The first color filter 241 may be disposed to overlap the first pixel PX1 , the second color filter 242 may be disposed to overlap the second pixel PX2 , and the third color filter 243 may be disposed to overlap the third pixel PX3 .

[0110] Each of the color filters 241, 242, and 243 may selectively transmit light of a specific color, but may absorb light of different colors to block their transmission.

[0111] For example, the first color filter 241 can selectively transmit light of a first color (e.g., red light) and block or absorb light of a second color (e.g., green light) and light of a third color (e.g., blue light). The first color filter 241 can be a red color filter and can include a red material such as a red dye or a red pigment. In the present disclosure, a colorant can be understood as a concept including both a dye and a pigment.

[0112] In addition, the second color filter 242 can selectively transmit the second color light (e.g., green light) and block or absorb the first color light (e.g., red light) and the third color light (e.g., blue light). The second color filter 242 can be a green color filter and can include a green material such as a green dye or a green pigment.

[0113] In addition, the third color filter 243 can selectively transmit light of a third color (e.g., blue light) and block or absorb light of a first color (e.g., red light) and light of a second color (e.g., green light). The third color filter 243 can be a blue color filter and can include a blue material such as a blue dye or a blue pigment.

[0114] Figure 3 and Figure 4 A structure in which the first color filter 241, the second color filter 242, and the third color filter 243 do not overlap each other is shown, but the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, the first color filter 241, the second color filter 242, and the third color filter 243 may partially overlap each other at the boundary between the first pixel PX1, the second pixel PX2, and the third pixel PX3.

[0115] The light blocking layer 245 may be disposed in the non-display area NDA. The light blocking layer 245 may overlap the first polarizing coating layer 130 and the second polarizing coating layer 230 in the third direction (Z-axis direction). In addition, the light blocking layer 245 may overlap one end of the first polarizing plate 120 and one end of the second polarizing plate 220 in the third direction (Z-axis direction).

[0116] The light blocking layer 245 can block light that accidentally travels from the backlight BLU of the non-display area NDA to the display area DA and light that travels from the pixels PX1, PX2, and PX3 to the non-display area NDA. Therefore, it is possible to prevent or reduce viewing angle light leakage. In addition, the light blocking layer 245 can absorb external light, thereby reducing color distortion caused by reflection of external light.

[0117] When the light blocking layer 245 extends in a direction opposite to the first direction (X-axis direction), light that accidentally travels from the backlight BLU of the non-display area NDA to the display area DA and light that travels from the pixels PX1, PX2, and PX3 to the non-display area NDA can be easily blocked. Therefore, the effect of preventing or reducing viewing angle light leakage can be enhanced. On the other hand, when the light blocking layer 245 extends too far in a direction opposite to the first direction (X-axis direction), since a dark portion may be generated in the display area DA, the extension length of the light blocking layer 245 may be limited. Therefore, it may be difficult to completely prevent viewing angle light leakage only by the light blocking layer 245.

[0118] The light blocking layer 245 may be formed of an organic material including at least one of graphite, carbon black, black pigment, and black dye, for example, or may be formed of a metal material including chromium (Cr). However, the material forming the light blocking layer 245 is not limited thereto, and any material that can block or absorb light transmission may be used. The light blocking layer 245 may be disposed at the same level as the color filters 241, 242, and 243.

[0119] Although Figure 3 and Figure 4 Although not shown in the figure, a planarization layer may be further disposed under the color filters 241, 242, and 243 and the light blocking layer 245. The planarization layer may be used to alleviate steps formed by the color filters 241, 242, and 243 and the light blocking layer 245.

[0120] The second electrode 250 may be disposed under the color filters 241, 242, and 243 and the light blocking layer 245. When a planarization layer is further disposed under the color filters 241, 242, and 243 and the light blocking layer 245, the second electrode 250 may be disposed under the planarization layer.

[0121] The second electrode 250 may be commonly formed over the entire surface of the second substrate 210. A common voltage may be applied to the second electrode 250, and the second electrode 250 may form an electric field together with the first electrode 150. In this case, according to the magnitude of the electric field, the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer 300 may be changed to control the transmittance of light.

[0122] The second electrode 250 may transmit all or part of the light. When the second electrode 250 transmits part of the light, the second electrode 250 may be formed of Ag, Mg, Cu, Al, Pt, Pd, Au, Ni, Nd, Ir, Cr, Li, Ca, LiF / Ca, LiF / Al, Mo, Ti, or a compound or mixture thereof (e.g., a mixture of Ag and Mg). When the second electrode 250 transmits all of the light, the second electrode 250 may include a transparent conductive oxide (TCO).

[0123] A sealing member SEAL may be provided between the first display substrate 100 and the second display substrate 200. The sealing member SEAL may be provided in the non-display area NDA. The first display substrate 100 and the second display substrate 200 may be coupled to each other by the sealing member SEAL. The sealing member SEAL may be made of an organic material. For example, the organic material may be an epoxy resin, but the present invention is not limited thereto.

[0124] The liquid crystal layer 300 may be disposed inside the sealing member SEAL. The liquid crystal layer 300 may be disposed between the first display substrate 100 and the second display substrate 200 in a space surrounded by the sealing member SEAL.

[0125] The liquid crystal layer 300 may include liquid crystal molecules. When an electric field is formed in the liquid crystal layer 300 , the liquid crystal molecules may rotate according to the formed electric field. The transmittance of light may vary according to the electric field formed in the liquid crystal layer 300 .

[0126] The display device 1000 may further include a backlight BLU. The backlight BLU may include a plurality of light sources and emit light toward the first display substrate 100. In an exemplary embodiment, the light source may be a light emitting diode, but is not limited thereto and may refer to all components capable of emitting light.

[0127] As described above, when the first polarizing coating 130 is disposed to overlap one end of the first polarizing plate 120 and the second polarizing coating 230 is disposed to overlap one end of the second polarizing plate 220, the light L0 passing through the liquid crystal layer 300 and traveling to the non-display area NDA can be effectively blocked. Therefore, the viewing angle light leakage of the display device 1000 can be prevented or reduced.

[0128] In addition, since the viewing angle light leakage can be prevented or reduced by the first polarizing coating 130 and the second polarizing coating 230, the area where the light blocking layer 245 is disposed can be minimized. Therefore, since the dead space can be minimized, the display device 1000 with a narrow frame can be easily implemented.

[0129] Hereinafter, other embodiments will be described. In the following embodiments, the same components as those already described will be denoted by the same reference numerals, and redundant descriptions will be omitted or simplified.

[0130] Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view of a display device according to another exemplary embodiment. Figure 6 It shows the emission to Figure 5 A cross-sectional view of the path of light on one side of a display device.

[0131] refer to Figure 5 and Figure 6 ,and Figures 1 to 4 Compared with the display device 1000 of the present exemplary embodiment, in the display device 1000A according to the present exemplary embodiment, the first polarizing coating 130A and the second polarizing coating 230A are arranged between the two substrates 110 and 210 (i.e., the first substrate 110 of the first display substrate 100A and the second substrate 210 of the second display substrate 200A), and the light blocking layer is omitted.

[0132] In detail, the first polarizing coating layer 130A may be disposed between the first substrate 110 and the circuit element layer 140. The first polarizing coating layer 130A may be directly disposed on one surface of the first substrate 110. In other words, the first polarizing coating layer 130A may be in direct contact with one surface of the first substrate 110.

[0133] The second polarizing coating layer 230A may be disposed between the second substrate 210 and the second electrode 250. The second polarizing coating layer 230A may be directly disposed on one surface of the second substrate 210. In other words, the second polarizing coating layer 230A may be in direct contact with one surface of the second substrate 210.

[0134] A first end of the first polarizing coating layer 130A may be disposed in the display area DA to overlap the color filters 241, 242, and 243 in the third direction (Z-axis direction). A second end of the first polarizing coating layer 130A may be aligned with one end of the first substrate 110.

[0135] The first end of the second polarizing coating layer 230A may be disposed in the display area DA to overlap the color filters 241, 242, and 243 in the third direction (Z-axis direction). The first end of the second polarizing coating layer 230A may be in direct contact with the color filters 241, 242, and 243. The second end of the second polarizing coating layer 230A may be aligned with one end of the second substrate 210.

[0136] As described above, when the first polarizing coating layer 130A and the second polarizing coating layer 230A are disposed in the non-display area NDA, the light blocking layer may be omitted. Therefore, since the dead space may be minimized, the display device 1000A having a narrow frame may be implemented.

[0137] In addition, when the first polarizing coating 130A is disposed to overlap one end of the first polarizing plate 120 and the second polarizing coating 230A is disposed to overlap one end of the second polarizing plate 220, the light L0 that passes through the liquid crystal layer 300 and travels to the non-display area NDA can be effectively blocked. Therefore, as described above, the viewing angle light leakage of the display device 1000A can be prevented or reduced.

[0138] Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view of a display device according to still another exemplary embodiment. Figure 8 It shows the emission to Figure 7 A cross-sectional view of the path of light on one side of a display device.

[0139] refer to Figure 7 and Figure 8 ,and Figures 1 to 4 Compared with the display device 1000 of the present exemplary embodiment, in the display device 1000B according to the present exemplary embodiment, the first polarizing coating 130B and the second polarizing coating 230B are arranged between the two substrates 110 and 210 (i.e., the first substrate 110 of the first display substrate 100B and the second substrate 210 of the second display substrate 200B), and the light blocking layer is omitted.

[0140] In detail, the first polarizing coating layer 130B may be disposed between the circuit element layer 140 and the liquid crystal layer 300. The second polarizing coating layer 230B may be disposed between the second electrode 250 and the liquid crystal layer 300.

[0141] As described above, when the first polarizing coating layer 130B and the second polarizing coating layer 230B are disposed in the non-display area NDA, the light blocking layer may be omitted. Therefore, since the dead space may be minimized, the display device 1000B having a narrow frame may be implemented.

[0142] In addition, when the first polarizing coating 130B is disposed to overlap one end of the first polarizing plate 120 and the second polarizing coating 230B is disposed to overlap one end of the second polarizing plate 220, the light L0 passing through the liquid crystal layer 300 and traveling to the non-display area NDA can be effectively blocked. Therefore, as described above, the viewing angle light leakage of the display device 1000B can be prevented or reduced.

[0143] In the display device according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the dead space of the display device may be minimized by minimizing the light blocking layer.

[0144] In addition, since the polarizing coating layer is disposed to overlap with the polarizing plate, the viewing angle light leakage of the display device can be prevented or reduced.

[0145] Although certain exemplary embodiments and examples have been described herein, other embodiments and modifications will be apparent from this description. Therefore, the inventive concept is not limited to such embodiments, but to the broader scope of the appended claims and various obvious modifications and equivalent arrangements as will be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art.
