The method comprises the following steps: collecting a first torque set of a flywheel end of an engine when a hydraulic tappet is installed in the valve train of the engine, wherein the first torque set comprises torques collected under multiple engine operating conditions; collecting a second torque set of the flywheel end of the engine when a hydraulic tappet device is installed in the valve train of the engine after the hydraulic tappet is removed, wherein the valve train of the engine stops running after the hydraulic tappet is removed, the hydraulic tappet device is used to block an oil passage hole of a cylinder head oil passage of the engine, and the second torque set comprises torques collected under multiple engine operating conditions; and obtaining a detection result representing friction loss of the valve train of the engine according to a difference between torques under the same engine operating condition in the first torque set and the second torque set. Thus, the problem that the friction loss of the valve train of an entity cannot be detected can be solved.
