Abstract
Description
[0001] This application claims priority to EP 20215738.4, filed on December 18, 2020, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Technical Field
[0002] This invention relates to improvements on the wear components of buckets used in earthmoving equipment. Background Technology
[0003] This invention relates to a bucket used in earthmoving equipment and wear parts / digging tools connected to such a bucket.
[0004] Excavating tools (GETs) used in earthmoving equipment, such as those used in mining operations, operate in highly abrasive environments and are subjected to high impact forces, thus becoming wear-out or damaged during use. Therefore, bucket teeth, such as those used on the front lip or edge of the bucket of earthmoving equipment, need to be replaced periodically.
[0005] Traditionally, the GET (Getting Edge) is welded to the lip of the bucket. When the GET reaches the end of its service life, it can be cut off the bucket and a new GET is welded in its place.
[0006] Sometimes, the corners or other parts or portions of the bucket are precast from steel, and then the base plate, any side structures, and the cast corners are welded together. Such welding is a time-consuming and expensive process, which must typically be done in the workshop to ensure the accuracy and quality of the reconfiguration. Equipment downtime increases productivity losses and operational costs. Therefore, structural failures of the bucket must be avoided. This invention has been developed with these problems in mind.
[0007] A specific problem concerns a bucket whose bucket lip plate is protected by half arrows attached to the leading edge of the bucket lip plate for protection. Two opposite corners of the bucket lip plate are provided with corner half arrows (GETs), and a plurality of intermediate half arrows are attached to the leading edge of the bucket lip plate between the two corner half arrows. The specific problem associated with this bucket is that continued use of the bucket after the corner half arrows have reached the end of their service life leads to structural failure of the corner portions of the bucket lip plate.
[0008] AU2013311372B discloses a known bucket and an associated digging tool. US3029534A discloses another known digging tool of the bolt-connected type. DE1952397U and U4044481A both relate to techniques for digging tools for the corners of buckets.
[0009] Therefore, the objective of this disclosure is to mitigate structural failures of the bucket lip plate while reducing downtime for maintenance and repair of the bucket (including any half-arrow). Summary of the Invention
[0010] According to a first aspect of this disclosure, the aforementioned objective is achieved by a corner half-arrow as defined in this invention, having an embodiment as defined in this invention. The corner half-arrow is configured to attach to the leading edge of a bucket lip plate, wherein the leading edge includes a central portion and a corner portion. The central portion extends along and coincides with a central axis (also referred to as a third longitudinal axis), while the corner portion is retractable from the central axis, thereby defining a gap between the corner portion and the central axis. The corner half-arrow includes: a back portion configured to attach to the corner portion of the leading edge; and an inner portion configured to attach directly or indirectly to a corresponding side portion of an adjacent intermediate half-arrow, which is attached to the central portion of the leading edge. The back portion of the corner half-arrow is configured such that when the corner half-arrow is attached to an intermediate half-arrow, the corner half-arrow fills the gap between the corner portion of the leading edge and the central axis. The corner half-arrow may further include a front wear portion and a side wear portion. The inner portion can be considered to extend along the inner portion axis (also known as the first longitudinal axis), while the back portion can be considered to extend along the first back portion axis (also known as the second longitudinal axis). In some examples, the second longitudinal axis may form a first angle greater than 90 degrees with respect to the first longitudinal axis.
[0011] The corner half-arrow, also known as a wear element, is configured to attach to the leading edge of the bucket lip plate to provide protection against wear to the bucket when attached. Once the corner half-arrow has worn down, it can be replaced with a new one. It should be understood that the inventive concept relates to corner half-arrows with more than one corner portion for the leading edge, such as both the right and left corner portions, and any intermediate corner portions (e.g., if the bucket lip plate is divided into two or more parts or segments). Furthermore, it should be understood that the bucket lip plate can be an integral part of the bucket or a separate component attached to the bucket. The claimed corner half-arrow is constructed to provide additional material at the wear portion on the side adjacent to the back portion by extending the back portion in a rearward-sloping manner. This construction allows the claimed corner half-arrow to replace the prior art corner half-arrow by removing the prior art corner half-arrow, thereby freeing the corner portion or corner lip portion of the bucket lip plate, and then removing material from the bucket lip plate, such as by grinding or cutting, thereby defining a gap between the corner portion at the leading edge of the lip plate and the extension of the central axis, thus making room for the extended back portion and side wear portion of the corner half-arrow. The new corner half-arrow can then be attached to the lip plate by welding or by a connection system (not shown in the illustrated embodiment). The greater rearward extension of the corner half-arrow allows for extended service life without the leading corner portion contributing to destructive wear of the bucket lip plate. This, in turn, allows the corner half-arrow to reach its lifespan in the same time as the intermediate half-arrow. In prior art solutions, the corner half-arrow often wears out before the intermediate half-arrow does.
[0012] Therefore, the claimed corner half-arrow is advantageous because it reduces damage to the corner portion of the bucket's lip plate caused by the operator continuing to use the bucket even when the corner half-arrow is worn. Moreover, the claimed design of the corner half-arrow provides this advantage while allowing the front geometry of the front worn portion of the corner half-arrow to remain unchanged, so that the bucket can operate and function normally for the operator without difference compared to using existing corner half-arrows. The corner half-arrow also functions as an upgrade to existing buckets with straight left and right leading edges of the lip plate by removing material as described above, which can be done by field workers using basic tools. Since the intermediate corner half-arrows and the newly designed corner half-arrows wear rings at approximately the same time, less production interruption is required to maintain the individual intermediate or corner half-arrows, thereby effectively improving the bucket's availability over time.
[0013] The dorsal portion can extend at least initially along the axis of the first dorsal portion from the inner portion, and the dorsal portion can form an internal angle of the corner half-arrow with the axis of the first inner portion. Similar to the corner half-arrow, the intermediate half-arrow can include a dorsal portion configured to attach to the central portion of the leading edge of the lip plate, wherein the dorsal portion of the intermediate half-arrow can extend along the axis of the second dorsal portion. The lateral portion of the intermediate half-arrow can extend along the axis of the second lateral portion, such that the second dorsal portion axis and the second lateral portion axis of the intermediate half-arrow form an internal angle of the intermediate half-arrow. Preferably, the sum of the internal angles of the corner half-arrow and the intermediate half-arrow can be greater than 180 degrees.
[0014] The edge of the back portion, which may be configured to face the corner portion of the leading edge, can be curved. Therefore, viewed from the bucket lip plate, the edge of the back portion can depict a convex or concave shape. Furthermore, the corner semi-arrowhead may include a containment portion configured to at least partially contain and protect the corner of the bucket lip plate.
[0015] In some examples, the first angle between the first longitudinal axis and the second longitudinal axis can be in the range of 95-120 degrees, such as in the range of 100-105 degrees, or such as 100 degrees.
[0016] According to some embodiments, the corner half-arrow may further include a bottom support portion that extends from the bottom of the corner half-arrow and rearward from the back portion, thereby forming a shelf for receiving the leading edge of the bucket lip plate of the bucket.
[0017] The side wear portion can extend from the front wear portion and from the back portion to the rear.
[0018] The worn parts on the side can be connected to the bottom support part.
[0019] The central portion of the shelf may include a central recess for facing the bottom of the lip plate.
[0020] According to a second aspect of this disclosure, the aforementioned objective is achieved by a half-arrow assembly comprising the aforementioned corner half-arrow and intermediate half-arrow. Thus, the corner half-arrow comprises: a back portion configured to attach to the corner portion of the leading edge of the lip plate; and an inner portion configured to attach directly or indirectly to the corresponding side portion of the intermediate half-arrow. Furthermore, the intermediate half-arrow comprises a back portion configured to attach to the central portion of the leading edge of the lip plate, adjacent to the corner half-arrow. As discussed above in conjunction with the first aspect, the central portion extends along and coincides with a central axis (also referred to herein as a third longitudinal axis), thereby defining a gap between the corner portion and the central axis. The back portion of the corner half-arrow is configured such that when the corner half-arrow is attached to the intermediate half-arrow, the corner half-arrow fills the gap between the corner portion of the leading edge and the central axis (the extension of the central axis). The middle half-arrow may further include: a front wear portion; a first side portion facing the corner half-arrow; and a second side portion facing away from the corner half-arrow. The side portions and the back portions may extend perpendicularly to each other such that the side portions of the middle half-arrow extend perpendicularly to the leading edge of the bucket lip plate when attached to it. Thus, when the corner half-arrow is positioned adjacent to the middle half-arrow, and the inner portion of the corner half-arrow extends along the first side portion of the middle half-arrow, the back portion of the corner half-arrow may extend rearward obliquely from the middle half-arrow along the axis of the first back portion.
[0021] In other words, the aforementioned objective is achieved through a semi-arrow assembly comprising a corner semi-arrow for the bucket lip plate and a middle semi-arrow for attaching adjacent to the corner semi-arrow to the leading edge of the bucket lip plate. The corner semi-arrow may include: a front wear portion; a side wear portion; a back portion for attaching to the leading edge of the bucket lip plate; and an inner portion facing the middle semi-arrow. Furthermore, the middle semi-arrow may include: a front wear portion; a first side portion for facing the corner semi-arrow; and a back portion for attaching to the bucket lip plate. The back portion of the middle semi-arrow can be considered to extend along a second back portion axis (also referred to as a fifth longitudinal axis), and the back portion of the corner semi-arrow can be configured such that, when the corner semi-arrow and the middle semi-arrow are mounted adjacent to each other, the back portion of the corner semi-arrow extends rearwardly from the inner portion away from the fifth longitudinal axis.
[0022] The technical effect is the same for the corner half-arrows discussed above, but with the added advantage that the kit can form a perfectly matched set of middle and corner half-arrows. Specifically, the increased rearward extension of the corner half-arrows allows for extended use without contributing to destructive wear on the corner portion of the bucket lip plate. This allows the corner half-arrows to reach their lifespan in the same time as the middle half-arrows. In prior art solutions, corner half-arrows often wear out before the middle half-arrows do. Therefore, the claimed corner half-arrows are advantageous because they reduce damage to the corner portion of the bucket lip plate caused by the operator continuing to use the bucket even when the corner half-arrow wears down. Moreover, the claimed design of the corner half-arrows provides this advantage while allowing the front geometry of the front wear portion of the corner half-arrow to remain unchanged, so that the bucket can operate and function normally for the operator without difference compared to using prior art corner half-arrows. The corner half-arrows also function as an upgrade to existing buckets with straight left and right leading edges, achieved by removing material as described above, which can be done by field workers using basic tools. Since the intermediate corner half-arrows wear out at approximately the same time as the newly designed corner half-arrows, less production interruption is required to maintain the individual intermediate or corner half-arrows, effectively improving bucket availability over time.
[0023] The front wear portion of the middle half-arrow of the second kit can extend parallel to the back portion of the middle half-arrow.
[0024] According to a third aspect of this disclosure, the aforementioned objective is achieved by a system comprising a bucket and a corner half-arrow according to the first aspect or a half-arrow assembly according to the second aspect. The bucket lip plate includes a leading edge having a central lip portion extending along a central axis (also referred to as a third longitudinal axis) and a corner portion (also referred to as a corner lip portion) extending along a corner axis (also referred to as a fourth longitudinal axis), wherein the corner axis extends at a second angle offset relative to the central axis, and wherein the corner angle (also referred to as the second angle) is configured such that when the corner half-arrow is attached to the bucket lip plate, the back portion of the corner half-arrow aligns with the corner portion of the leading edge. [0033] Appendix Label Table Detailed Implementation
[0034] The corner semi-arrowhead of the bucket lip plate of the bucket used for a bulldozer will be described below with reference to the attached drawings.
[0035] Figure 1 A bucket lip plate 3 for a bucket, including a GET, is shown, the GET being in the form of a semi-arrowhead attached along the leading edge 2 or front portion of the bucket lip plate 3 to protect the bucket lip plate 3. Semi-arrowheads 1 and 8 collectively present a front wear portion and corresponding left and right wear portions to protect the bucket lip plate 3. The leading edge 2 is typically shaped along a straight line extending from left to right, or has a central portion 11 or central bucket lip portion 11, and a retracted or cut-off corner portion 13 or corner bucket lip portion 13. The central portion 11 can be considered to extend along and coincide with the central axis 12 (hereinafter also referred to as the third longitudinal axis 12), while the corner portion 13 can be considered to be retracted relative to the central axis 12, thus defining a gap between the corner portion 13 and the central axis 12. Therefore, the leading edge 2 of the bucket lip plate 3 can be formed as follows: Figure 2 The text describes the straight front portion and the straight right front portion, which are at an angle to each other. Also, as... Figure 2 As shown, the right front portion has been cut off at an angle relative to its original straight shape (with...). Figure 2The left front portion of the middle portion has a straight shape compared to its original shape before removal, thus exhibiting the aforementioned interval with the central axis 12. This interval can be formed as a previously unavailable triangular space. Before attaching the left corner half-arrow 1 to the lip plate, it is possible to... Figure 2 The straight, front left portion of the leading edge shown performs the same procedure to remove material at an outward-rearward angle. The lateral portions of the middle semi-arrows in the prior art typically extend perpendicularly to the leading edge 2 to which they are attached. Figure 2 The image shows a middle half-arrow with such a prior art design.
[0036] exist Figures 1 to 2 The image shows a first embodiment of the new corner half-arrow 1. The corner half-arrow 1 includes: a front wear portion 4; a side wear portion 5; a back portion 6 for attaching to the bucket lip 3 of the bucket 21; and an inner portion 7 for facing the adjacent middle half-arrow 8. The inner portion 7 extends along a first longitudinal axis 9 (also referred to as the first inner portion axis), and the back portion 6 extends along a second longitudinal axis 10 (also referred to as the first back portion axis). The second longitudinal axis 10 forms a first angle 17 of more than 90 degrees with respect to the first longitudinal axis 9. The first angle 17 may also be referred to as the corner half-arrow inner angle 17.
[0037] When such a corner half-arrow 1 is attached to the leading edge 2 of the bucket lip plate 3 of the bucket 21, and the inner portion 7 of the corner half-arrow 1 is positioned adjacent to the corresponding side portion of the intermediate half-arrow 9, the back portion of the corner half-arrow 1 extends further rearward than prior art corner half-arrows, thus providing additional abrasive material on the corner half-arrow 1, causing it to wear out later, preferably at approximately the same time as the intermediate half-arrow 8. This allows the operator of the bucket 21 to continue operating the bucket 21 until all or at least most of the half-arrows are worn out without damaging the corner portion of the leading edge 2 of the bucket lip plate 3 of the bucket 21.
[0038] In this embodiment, the first angle 17 is 100 degrees, but in other embodiments, it may be suitably selected in other ways, such as in the range of 95-120 degrees or in the range of 100-105 degrees.
[0039] The corner half-arrow 1 further includes a bottom support portion 15 that extends from the bottom of the corner half-arrow 1 and rearward from the back portion 6, thereby forming a shelf for receiving the bucket lip plate 3 of the bucket 21. The bottom support portion 15 allows for a larger engagement area between the bucket lip plate 3 and the corner half-arrow 1, thus reducing the stress on the connection between the corner half-arrow 1 and the bucket 21 and improving the robustness and durability of the connection.
[0040] The side wear portion 5 extends from the front wear portion 4 and rearwards from the back portion 6, which extends along the leading edge 2 of the lip plate 3. Alternatively, in other embodiments, the side wear portion 5 may extend only to the back portion 6. Furthermore, the side wear portion 5 connects to the bottom support portion 15. In this embodiment, the corner half-arrow 1 is molded as a single piece including the connection between the bottom support portion 15 and the side wear portion 5; however, any other suitable manufacturing method may be used instead.
[0041] Moreover, such as Figure 3 and Figure 4 As shown, the central portion of the shelf includes a central recess facing the bottom of the lip plate 3. The central recess becomes visible once the front wear portion is worn down, thus providing a visual indicator of wear. In other embodiments, alternatively, the central recess may have other shapes or may be omitted.
[0042] See Figures 5 to 6 A comparison is made between the corner half-arrow of the prior art and the corner half-arrow 1 according to the second embodiment of the present disclosure, wherein the lip plate is shown in a dashed line. As shown, the corner half-arrow has a back portion configured to compensate for material that has been removed from the leading edge 2 of the lip plate 3 by abrasion or cutting, thus defining an angle 18 relative to the central axis 12.
[0043] Figure 7 The illustration shows a corner half-arrow 1, which can be similarly constructed as described above, for example... Figures 1 to 4 The corner half-arrow discussed. Therefore, the inner portion of the corner half-arrow 1 can extend along the axis 9 of the first inner portion and form an inner angle 17 relative to the axis 10 of the first back portion. The corner half-arrow 1 can be configured such that when attached to the corner portion of the leading edge 2 of the lip plate 3, the axis 9 of the first inner portion can be aligned with the axis 20 of the second side portion, and the corresponding side portion of the middle half-arrow 8 extends along the axis 20 of the second side portion. Therefore, the corresponding side portion of the middle half-arrow 8 can be arranged adjacent to and facing the inner portion of the corner half-arrow 1.
[0044] The middle half arrow 8 may have a back portion that is attached to the central portion of the front edge 2 and extends along the axis 16 of the second back portion, which may form an internal angle 19 of the middle half arrow relative to the axis 20 of the second side portion.
[0045] like Figure 7 The diagram shows that the inner angle 19 of the middle half-arrow and the inner angle 17 of the corner half-arrow can together form a total of more than 180 degrees.
[0046] Figures 8a and 8c illustrate different examples of the shape of the back portion 6 of the corner half-arrow 1. In the figures presented, the back portion 6 is attached to the corner portion of the leading edge 2 of the bucket lip plate 3 of the bucket 21. The illustrated corner half-arrow 1 can be part of a kit comprising a plurality of corner half-arrows having various shapes, from which a corner half-arrow can be selected to match the corresponding shape of the corner portion of the leading edge 2. Alternatively or additionally, the corner portion can be shaped, for example by cutting, to fit into a shape that mates with the back portion 6 of the corner half-arrow 1.
[0047] The back portion 6 can be shaped to at least partially enclose the corner portion of the corner portion, thereby protecting the corner portion from wear. The enclosure member 22 of the back portion 6 can be further used to improve the attachment to the bucket lip plate 3 of the bucket 21.
[0048] Figures 8a and 8b illustrate an example in which the back portion 6 initially extends along a first back portion axis 10, which, as seen from the inner portion, intersects the central axis of the leading edge 2 of the lip plate 3. In Figure 8a, the back portion 6 of the corner half-arrow 1 follows two different axes—the first being the first back portion axis 10, and then another axis intersecting the first back portion axis 10. In Figure 8b, instead, the back portion 6 is depicted as a curve extending into the lip.
[0049] Figure 8c illustrates another example in which the edge of the back portion 6 curves concavely into the corner half-arrow 1, thus following the rounded outline of the corner portion of the leading edge 2.
[0050] As described above, the corner half-arrow 1 can be configured as part of a kit that includes both the aforementioned corner half-arrow 1 and the aforementioned middle half-arrow 8. The middle half-arrow 8 may include: a front wear portion; a first side portion facing the corner half-arrow 1; a second side portion facing away from the corner half-arrow 1; and a back portion for attachment to the leading edge 2 of the bucket lip plate 3 of the bucket 21, wherein the side portions and the back portion are as follows... Figure 2 They extend perpendicularly to each other, as shown in the diagram.
[0051] In other words, the half-arrow kit includes a corner half-arrow 1 for the leading edge 2 of the lip plate 3, and a middle half-arrow for attaching adjacent to the corner half-arrow 1 to the leading edge 2. The corner half-arrow 1 includes: a front wear portion 4; a side wear portion 5; a back portion 6 for attachment to the leading edge 2 of the lip plate 3; and an inner portion 7 facing the middle half-arrow 8. The middle half-arrow 8 includes: a front wear portion; a first side portion facing the corner half-arrow 1; and a back portion for attachment to the leading edge 2 of the lip plate 3. The back portion of the middle half-arrow 8 extends along a fifth longitudinal axis 16 (also referred to as the second back portion axis), and the back portion 6 of the corner half-arrow is configured such that when the corner half-arrow 1 and the middle half-arrow 8 are mounted adjacent to each other, the back portion 6 extends rearwardly from the inner portion 7 away from the fifth longitudinal axis 16. The front worn portion of the middle half arrow 8 extends parallel to the back portion of the middle half arrow 8, but alternatively, in other embodiments, it may extend obliquely relative to the back portion of the middle half arrow 8.
[0052] Furthermore, the corner semi-arrow or the aforementioned kit can be supplied together with the bucket lip plate and / or the bucket, thereby forming a system for attachment to a dumper. The bucket lip plate 3 includes a leading edge 2 having a central portion 11 extending along a third longitudinal axis 12 (in Figure 2 (shown as dashed lines in the middle) and the corner portion 13 extending along the fourth longitudinal axis 14 (also known as the corner axis) (in Figure 2 (shown in dashed lines). The fourth longitudinal axis 14 extends at a second angle 18 offset from the third longitudinal axis 12. The second angle 18 is configured such that when the corner half-arrow 1 is attached to the leading edge 2 of the bucket lip plate 3 of the bucket 21, the back portion 6 of the corner half-arrow 1 is aligned with the corner portion 13.
[0053] It should be understood that the various edges or portions defined as extending along the respective longitudinal axis are generally straight portions / edges, but alternatively, in other embodiments they may be arc-shaped, wavy, or otherwise shaped, as long as they still extend generally along the respective longitudinal axis referenced.
[0054] The semi-arrows described herein are designed to be attached to the bucket lip 2 by welding, but alternatively, they can be redesigned to be attached to the bucket (not shown) by a mechanical connection system that holds the GET in a releasable manner.
[0055] It should be further understood that, although the above references Figure 1 The embodiments discussed up to Figure 8c involve the right corner half-arrow, but the inventive concept should not be construed as limited to a specific corner of the lip plate. Rather, the proposed inventive concept can also be applied to the left corner half-arrow.
