[0028] As used herein, the term "network device" refers to a node in a communication network via which a terminal device accesses the network and receives services from it. Depending on the terminology and technology applied, a network device may refer to a base station (BS) or an access point (AP), such as a Node B (NodeB or NB), an evolved Node B (eNodeB or eNB), a NR NB (also known as a gNB), a remote radio unit (RRU), a radio head (RH), a remote radio head (RRH), a relay, a low-power node (such as a femto, pico, etc.). In the following description, the terms "network device", "base station" and "access point" may be used interchangeably.
[0029] The term "terminal device" refers to any terminal device capable of wireless communication. By way of example and not limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, a user equipment (UE), a subscriber station (SS), a portable subscriber station, a mobile station (MS), or an access terminal (AT). The terminal device may include, but is not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, a voice over IP (VoIP) phone, a wireless local loop phone, a tablet computer, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a portable computer, a desktop computer, an image capture terminal device such as a digital camera, a game terminal device, a music storage and playback appliance, a vehicle-mounted wireless terminal device, a wireless endpoint, a mobile station, a laptop embedded equipment (LEE), a laptop mounted equipment (LME), a USB dongle, a smart device, a wireless customer premises equipment (CPE), an Internet of Things (IoT) device, a watch or other wearable device, a head mounted display (HMD), a vehicle, a drone, medical equipment and applications (e.g., remote surgery), industrial equipment and applications (e.g., robots and / or other wireless devices running in industrial and / or automated processing chain environments), consumer electronic devices, equipment running on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, etc. In the following description, the terms "terminal device", "communication device", "terminal", "user equipment" and "UE" may be used interchangeably.
[0030] As described above, it is necessary to switch one type of uplink waveform to another type of uplink waveform in order to adapt to the location of the UE or the network scenario. For example, when the UE moves from the cell center to the cell edge, the uplink waveform needs to be switched from CP-OFDM to DFT-S-OFDM, because DFT-S-OFDM has a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and is beneficial for uplink coverage-limited scenarios. In addition, for coverage enhancement, waveform switching needs to be performed in a fast and dynamic manner to ensure non-continuous coverage.
[0031] In current technology, uplink waveforms are configured via Radio Resource Control (RRC) signaling, which is very slow and is referred to as semi-static waveform switching. This limitation imposes a large barrier to actually switching to a DFT-S-OFDM waveform for cell edge UEs. The current waveform configuration is shown in the text box below.
[0032]
[0033] Release 18 (R18) has included the goal of dynamic switching between DFT-S-OFDM and CP-OFDM. However, no specific configuration is defined for dynamic waveform switching. For dynamic waveform switching, the following issues need to be addressed, including the configuration of dynamic waveform switching, a solution for dynamic waveform switching of the dynamically scheduled physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH), a solution for dynamic waveform switching of Msg3 / MsgA PUSCH initial transmission, and a solution for dynamic waveform switching of retransmissions, and a solution for configured grant PUSCH.
[0034] The embodiments of the present disclosure propose a solution for dynamic waveform switching for the above scenario. In this solution, the BS sends a waveform indication to the UE via layer 1 signaling or layer 2 signaling, and the waveform indication indicates a target waveform to be used by the UE in a set of waveforms. Then, the UE sends an uplink transmission to the base station based on the target waveform.
[0035] According to the embodiments of the present disclosure, by sending the waveform indication via layer 1 signaling or layer 2 signaling, the waveform indication can be received very quickly by the UE. Therefore, the UE can very quickly switch to the target waveform indicated by the waveform indication, thereby realizing dynamic waveform switching and ensuring that the UE is always within the coverage of the BS.
[0036] The following will refer to Figures 1 to 12 The principles and specific implementations of the present disclosure are described in detail. Figure 1 An example communication network 100 is shown in which embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented. The network 100 includes a user equipment (UE) 110 and a base station (BS) 120 served by the BS 120. The network 100 may provide one or more serving cells to serve the UE 110.
[0037] It should be understood that the number of UEs 110 and BSs 120 is for illustration purposes only and does not imply any limitation. Network 100 may include any suitable number of BSs, UEs, and serving cells suitable for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure.
[0038] In communication network 100, BS 120 may transmit data and control information to UE 110, and UE 110 may also transmit data and control information to BS 120. The link from BS 120 to UE 110 is called a downlink (DL) or forward link, and the link from UE 110 to BS 120 is called an uplink (UL) or reverse link.
[0039] In the communication network 100, the UE 110 may send uplink communications based on a set of waveforms. In some embodiments, the set of waveforms includes a DFT-S-OFDM waveform and a CP-OFDM waveform. Although only two types of waveforms are illustrated, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the set of waveforms may include other types of waveforms, and is not limited to the two types mentioned.
[0040] Figure 2 A signaling diagram illustrating a process for waveform indication and waveform switching according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated. For the purpose of discussion, reference will be made to Figure 1 Process 200 is described. Process 200 may involve Figure 1 UE 110 and BS 120 in.
[0041] BS 120 sends 201 a waveform indication 230 to UE 110 via layer 1 signaling or layer 2 signaling. Waveform indication 230 indicates a target waveform to be used by UE 110 from a set of waveforms. Thus, UE 110 receives 203 waveform indication 230 from BS 120 via layer 1 signaling or layer 2 signaling. UE 110 then sends 205 an uplink transmission 240 to base station 120 based on the target waveform. On the other side of the communication, BS 120 receives 207 uplink transmission 240 from UE 110.
[0042] Through process 200, since the target waveform of the uplink transmission 240 can be indicated to the UE 110 by the BS 120 via layer 1 signaling or layer 2 signaling, the target waveform to be used by the UE 110 to transmit the uplink transmission 240 can be dynamically controlled and switched by the BS 120. In this way, dynamic switching between sets of waveforms for uplink transmissions from the UE 110 to the BS 120 can be achieved, thereby providing coverage enhancement and improving communication performance between the UE 110 and the BS 120.
[0043] In some embodiments, the target waveform is determined and configured by the BS in the waveform indication. In some embodiments, the layer 1 signaling includes physical layer signaling, which includes downlink control information (DCI). In some embodiments, the layer 2 signaling includes medium access control (MAC) signaling, which includes medium access control (MAC) control elements (CE).
[0044] In some embodiments, the waveform indication indicates whether a DFT-S-OFDM waveform or a CP-OFDM waveform is to be used by indicating whether the transform precoder is enabled or disabled. If the waveform indication indicates that the transform precoder is enabled, the DFT-S-OFDM waveform will be used for uplink transmission. Otherwise, if the waveform indication indicates that the transform precoder is disabled, the CP-OFDM waveform will be used for uplink transmission.
[0045] In some embodiments, before the BS 120 sends 201 the waveform indication 230 to the UE 110, the UE 110 may send 209 UE capability information 220 indicating whether the UE 110 supports switching between sets of waveforms to the base station 120, so as to inform the BS 120 whether the UE 110 is capable of waveform switching. On the other side of the communication, the BS 120 receives 209 the UE capability information 220 from the UE 110. In this way, the BS 120 may send waveform indications only to UEs 110 that are capable of waveform switching, and thus may avoid unnecessary waveform indication transmissions to UEs 110 that do not support waveform switching.
[0046] In some embodiments, before BS 120 sends (201) a waveform indication 230 to UE 110, BS 120 may first send (213) layer 3 signaling 210 to UE 110 indicating whether switching between a set of waveform functions of BS 120 is enabled or disabled. On the other side of the communication, BS 120 receives 215 layer 3 signaling 210 from UE 110. In this way, waveform switching may be performed only when the waveform switching function of BS 120 is enabled, further reducing unnecessary operations and transmissions.
[0047] In some embodiments, the layer 3 signaling includes RRC signaling. For example, BS 120 may configure an information element (IE) such as dynamicTransformPrecoder in the layer 3 signaling to indicate whether waveform switching of BS 120 is enabled. If IE dynamicTransformPrecoder is set to "one", it means that waveform switching of BS 120 is enabled. If IE dynamicTransformPrecoder is set to "zero", it means that waveform switching of BS 120 is disabled.
[0048] In the first scenario of dynamically scheduled PUSCH, the layer 3 signaling may be specific to the UE 110. In this scenario, the waveform switching function indication of the BS 120 may be included in the PUSCH-Config information element.
[0049] Figure 3An exemplary PUSCH-Config IE for configuration of a waveform switching function indication for a base station according to some other embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated.
[0050] It can be seen that IEs such as dynamicTransformPrecoder are introduced into the PUSCH-Config information element. The IE dynamicTransformPrecoder indicates whether the waveform switching function of the BS is enabled. The IE dynamicTransformPrecoder in the PUSCH-Config information element can be applied to PUSCH scheduled by DCI format 0_1 or DCI format 0_2.
[0051] In the second scenario of Msg3 PUSCH initial transmission or retransmission, the layer 3 signaling may be specific to the cell in which the UE is located. In this scenario, the waveform switching function indication of the base station may be included in the RACH-ConfigCommon information element.
[0052] Figure 4 An exemplary RACH-ConfigCommon IE for configuration of a waveform switching function indication for a base station according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated.
[0053] It can be seen that IEs such as msg3-dynamicTransformPrecoder are introduced into the RACH-ConfigCommon information element. The IE msg3-dynamicTransformPrecoder indicates whether the waveform switching function of the BS is enabled specifically for the cells supported by the BS. If the IE msg3-dynamicTransformPrecoder is set to "one", it means that the waveform switching function of the BS is enabled. If the IE dynamicTransformPrecoder is set to "zero", it means that the waveform switching of the BS is prohibited. The IE msg3-dynamicTransformPrecoder can be applied to DCI format 0_0. The IE msg3-dynamicTransformPrecoder can also be applied to a PUSCH scheduled by a random access response (RAR) uplink grant, or a PUSCH scheduled by a fallback RAR uplink grant, or a PUSCH scheduled by a DCI format 0_0 with a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a temporary cell RadioNetworkTemporaryIdentifier (TC-RNTI).
[0054] In the third scenario of configured PUSCH grant, a waveform switching function indication of the base station may be included in the ConfiguredGrantConfig information element.
[0055] Figure 5 An exemplary IE for configuration of a waveform switching function indication for a base station according to other embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated.
[0056] It can be seen that IEs such as dynamicTransformPrecoder are introduced into the ConfiguredGrantConfig information element. The IE dynamicTransformPrecoder indicates whether the waveform switching function of the BS is enabled.
[0057] In some embodiments, the UE may send UE capability information to the base station indicating whether the UE supports switching between sets of waveforms. In some embodiments, the UE may send UE capability information for at least one of the scenarios including Msg3 PUSCH initial transmission or retransmission, dynamically scheduled PUSCH, and configured granted PUSCH.
[0058] If the waveform switching function of the BS is enabled by layer 3 signaling and the UE supports waveform switching, the BS may send a waveform indication to the UE via layer 1 signaling or layer 2 signaling.
[0059] In the first scenario, the uplink transmission is a dynamically scheduled PUSCH, and the waveform indication may be sent via the DCI in the layer 1 signaling or the MAC CE in the layer 2 signaling.
[0060] In one embodiment, a new field in the DCI may be used to indicate a target waveform, such as DFT-S-OFDM or CP-OFDM. For example, a new field may be an IE transformPrecoder. The IE transformPrecoder indicates whether the transform precoder is enabled. If the IE transformPrecoder has a value of "one", it means that the transform precoder is enabled, i.e., the DFT-S-OFDM waveform is to be used. If the IE transformPrecoder has a value of "zero", it means that the transform precoder is disabled, i.e., the CP-OFDM waveform is to be used.
[0061] Alternatively or in addition, bits in existing fields of the DCI may be reinterpreted to indicate the target waveform. For example, bits in the Redundancy Pattern field of the DCI may be used to indicate the target waveform. Alternatively or in addition, a new information element in the Time Domain Resource Allocation (TDRA) table of the DCI may be used to indicate the target waveform. In this way, the waveform indication field does not have much impact on the structure of the DCI.
[0062] Figure 6 An exemplary IE for configuration of waveform indication via a TDRA table according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated. It can be seen that a transformPrecoder IE can be introduced as part of the PUSCH-TimeDomainResourceAllocationlist in the PUSCH-Config information element to indicate the target waveform.
[0063] Alternatively or in addition, the MAC CE may be used to indicate a target waveform. A new MAC CE may be introduced to indicate a target waveform. An existing MAC CE may be reinterpreted to indicate a target waveform.
[0064] In the second scenario, the uplink transmission is the initial transmission and retransmission of Msg3 PUSCH, and the waveform indication can be sent via the DCI in the layer 1 signaling or the MAC CE in the layer 2 signaling.
[0065] In this scenario, the UE may trigger a waveform switching process. The UE may select a dedicated PRACH preamble in a shared physical random access channel (PRACH) opportunity or a separately configured PRACH opportunity reserved by the base station. Thereafter, the UE may send the selected dedicated PRACH preamble to the base station. If the reserved dedicated PRACH preamble is detected by the base station, the base station will understand that the UE has the capability of waveform switching. That is, via the dedicated PRACH preamble detected by the base station, the UE capability information indicating whether the UE supports waveform switching in a set of waveforms is implicitly notified to the base station.
[0066] In some embodiments, after the BS learns that the UE supports waveform switching, the BS may determine which waveform in the set of waveforms to be applied, and send a waveform indication indicating the determined waveform to the UE. In some embodiments, the UE may trigger the waveform switching process by sending a request to the BS for switching waveforms. The request to switch waveforms may be sent based on a comparison measurement result between the reference signal received power (RSRP) of the downlink communication and a predetermined threshold. If the RSRP is lower than a predetermined threshold, the UE may be at risk of being covered by a cell supported by the BS. At this time, the UE may send a request to the BS for switching to a waveform (such as a DFT-S-OFDM waveform) that is beneficial for uplink coverage-limited scenarios. When the UE moves to the edge of a cell or there are some problems in the connection with the BS, the UE will be covered by a cell supported by the BS.
[0067] In one embodiment, the waveform indication may be sent via a bit of a random access response (RAR) grant message. The information field from the existing information field in the RAR grant message may be used for the waveform indication. In this way, the overall size of the RAR grant message does not change, and the structure of the MAC RAR does not change.
[0068] In some embodiments, the waveform indication can be sent via a bit associated with the TDRA table of the RAR grant message. In such embodiments, the information element in the new TDRA table can be used for the waveform indication. The new TDRA table can use bits from other information fields of the RAR grant message. The new TDRA table can be configured by a system information block (SIB) (such as SIB1, SIB2, etc.). The new TDRA table includes information fields from the traditional TDRA table and new fields for waveform indication. The information fields from the traditional TDRA table may include K2 fields, mappingType fields, and startSymbolAndLength fields. The new field for waveform indication may be the msg3-transformPrecoder field.
[0069] Alternatively or in addition, the bits in the existing fields of the existing TDRA table of the DCI for the initial and retransmission of the scheduling Msg3 PUSCH can be reinterpreted for waveform indication. Alternatively or in addition, one bit added to the existing TDRA table can be used for waveform indication. The added one bit can be obtained from other information fields outside the TDRA table of the RAR grant message, such as the channel state information (CSI) request field. In this way, since the previously existing information fields in the TDRA table remain unchanged, the flexibility of configuring time domain resources for the UE can be ensured.
[0070] In some other implementations, the waveform indication may be sent via a bit in an existing field that is unrelated to the TDRA table of the RAR grant message. Figure 7 An exemplary structure of the RAR Grant field according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated. As can be seen, the RAR Grant field includes several information fields that are not related to the TDRA table.
[0071] In such embodiments, bits of the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) information field of the RAR grant may be used for waveform indication. For example, the most significant bit (MSB) bit may be used for waveform indication.
[0072] Alternatively or in addition, a bit of the transmit power control (TPC) information field granted by the RAR may be used for waveform indication. For example, the least significant bit (LSB) bit may be used for waveform indication. For another example, the TPC command table may be redefined and include waveform indication.
[0073] Alternatively or additionally, bits of a channel state information (CSI) request information field may be used for waveform indication.
[0074] Alternatively or in addition, bits of the PUSCH frequency resource allocation information field may be used for waveform indication. Since the size of msg3 PUSCH is not that large, the PUSCH frequency resource allocation information field may have unused bits. Therefore, the PUSCH frequency resource allocation information field may be truncated so that one bit may be used for waveform indication.
[0075] In another embodiment, the waveform indication may be sent via a reinterpretation bit in a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) process number field. For example, for Msg3 retransmission, the information field in DCI format 0_0 with a CRC scrambled by TC-RNTI may be reinterpreted for waveform indication. Specifically, the HARQ process number field in DCI format 0_0 with a CRC scrambled by TC-RNTI may be reinterpreted for waveform indication.
[0076] In yet another embodiment, for Msg3 PUSCH initial transmission and retransmission, the waveform indication may be sent via MAC CE. Figure 8 An exemplary structure of a medium access control random access response according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated. The reserved R bit of the MAC RAR control element may be used for waveform indication.
[0077] In the scenario of initial transmission or retransmission of the MsgA physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH), a waveform indication may be sent similar to the disclosure of the above-mentioned scenario of initial transmission or retransmission of the Msg3 physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH). For example, an information element in a new TDRA table may be used for waveform indication. Alternatively or in addition thereto, a bit in an existing field of an existing TDRA table for initial transmission and retransmission of MsgAPUSCH may be reinterpreted for waveform indication. Still alternatively or in addition thereto, a bit added to an existing TDRA table may be used for waveform indication.
[0078] In this scenario, for MsgA PUSCH retransmission, the waveform indication may be sent via MAC CE. Fig. 9 An exemplary structure of a fallback random access response according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated. The reserved R bit of the fallback MAC RAR control element may be used for waveform indication.
[0079] In the third scenario, the uplink transmission is a configured grant PUSCH, and the waveform indication may be sent via DCI in layer 1 signaling.
[0080] In this scenario, the waveform indication may be sent via a one-bit field in the TDRA table field of the DCI for the scheduled configured PUSCH grant, such as a type 1 configured PUSCH grant. Alternatively or in addition, the waveform indication may be sent via a reinterpreted bit in an existing field of the DCI for the scheduled configured PUSCH grant. Alternatively or in addition, the waveform indication may be sent via a new field introduced in the timeDomainResourceAllocation IE of the ConfiguredGrantConfigIE for the configured PUSCH grant, such as a type 1 and type 2 configured PUSCH grant.
[0081] In some embodiments, the target waveform indicated by the waveform indication for retransmission of Msg3 or MsgA may be the same as the target waveform indicated by the waveform indication for initial transmission of Msg3 or MsgA. For example, if the waveform indication for initial transmission of Msg3 or MsgA indicates that a DFT-S-OFDM waveform is to be used, the waveform indication for retransmission of Msg3 or MsgA may also indicate that DFT-S-OFDM is to be used. Alternatively or in addition, the target waveform indicated by the waveform indication for retransmission of Msg3 or MsgA may be different from the target waveform indicated by the waveform indication for initial transmission of Msg3 or MsgA.
[0082] In some embodiments, the uplink transmission is a small data transmission (SDT), and the above-mentioned waveform indication device is also applicable to SDT. Specifically, for SDT based on random access, the waveform indication device for initial transmission and retransmission of Msg3 and MsgA can be used for waveform switching. For SDT based on configuration grant, the waveform indication device for the configured grant PUSCH can be used for waveform switching.
[0083] Fig.10 A flowchart illustrating an example method 1000 for waveform indication implemented at a UE according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated.
