[0032] In the present invention, a numerical range expressed using "to" means a range including the numerical values described before and after "to" as the minimum value and the maximum value, respectively.
[0033] In the numerical range recorded in stages in the present invention, the upper limit or lower limit recorded in a certain numerical range can also be replaced by the upper limit or lower limit of the numerical range recorded in other stages. In the numerical range recorded in the present invention, the upper limit or lower limit recorded in a certain numerical range can also be replaced by the value shown in the embodiment.
[0034] In the present invention, the term "process" includes not only an independent process but also a process that cannot be clearly distinguished from other processes as long as the intended purpose of the process is achieved.
[0035] When the embodiments of the present invention are described with reference to the drawings, the structure of the embodiments is not limited to the structure shown in the drawings. In addition, the sizes of the components in each figure are conceptual sizes, and the relative relationship between the sizes of the components is not limited to this.
[0036] <Battery Manufacturing Method>
[0037] A first embodiment of the present invention is a method for manufacturing a battery, comprising:
[0038] A first step of disposing an electrode body in an internal space of an outer casing;
[0039] A second step of supplying an electrolyte solution to an internal space of an outer casing in which the electrode assembly is disposed; and
[0040] A third step of pressing a portion of the outer casing corresponding to the periphery of the electrode body to which the electrolyte solution is supplied,
[0041] The volume of the internal space of the outer casing is larger than the volume of the electrode assembly.
[0042] In the conventional battery manufacturing method, the volume of the internal space of the outer casing for accommodating the electrode body is roughly equal to the volume of the electrode body. In addition, it takes a certain amount of time before the electrolyte penetrates the electrode body. Therefore, it is difficult to supply the amount of electrolyte that finally penetrates the electrode body to the internal space of the outer casing through a single injection operation.
[0043] Therefore, in the conventional method, a first injection operation is performed to supply an amount of electrolyte that does not exceed the volume of the internal space of the outer casing, and then wait until the electrolyte permeates the electrode body. Thereafter, a second injection operation is performed to allow a sufficient amount of electrolyte to permeate the electrode body.
[0044] In the method of the present invention, an outer casing having an internal space larger in volume than the volume of the electrode body is used. Therefore, an electrolyte solution in an amount sufficient to eventually permeate the electrode body can be injected in a single injection operation.
[0045] In the method of the present invention, the volume of the internal space of the outer casing used in the manufacture of the battery is larger than the volume of the electrode body. Therefore, at the end of the electrolyte injection operation, the electrolyte that has not yet penetrated the electrode body exists around the electrode body. Therefore, after the injection operation, the portion of the outer casing corresponding to the surrounding of the electrode body is compressed. Thus, the electrolyte existing around the electrode body is moved to the electrode body side, promoting the penetration of the electrolyte.
[0046] According to the method of the present invention, even if the electrode body is not subjected to processing for improving the permeability of the electrolyte solution, for example, the efficiency of the liquid injection operation can be improved.
[0047] Hereinafter, each step included in the method of the present invention will be described.
[0048] (First process)
[0049] In the first step, the electrode body is disposed in the internal space of the outer casing having an internal space having a volume larger than the volume of the electrode body.
[0050] The type of the outer casing is not particularly limited as long as it can accommodate the electrode assembly. From the viewpoint of compressing the area of the outer casing corresponding to the periphery of the electrode assembly to which the electrolyte is supplied, the outer casing is preferably a thin and flexible sheet.
[0051] The outer casing may be composed of one member or two or more members. For example, when the outer casing is a sheet-like object, the outer casing may be composed of one sheet-like object or two sheet-like objects.
[0052] As the outer casing, a laminate having a heat seal layer and a metal layer containing a metal such as aluminum (so-called laminate film) may also be used. That is, the battery manufactured by the method of the present invention may also be a battery using a laminate film as an outer casing (so-called laminate battery).
[0053] As a method for carrying out the first step when a laminate film is used as an outer casing, the following method 1 and method 2 can be mentioned.
[0054] Method 1: A method in which the electrode body is arranged between a folded laminate film or between two overlapped laminate films, and the laminate films around the electrode body are joined by heat sealing
[0055] Method 2: A method in which a folded laminate film or two overlapping laminate films are joined around the periphery by heat sealing, and the electrode body is arranged in a space surrounded by the joined portion of the laminate films.
[0056] If necessary, a concave portion for housing the electrode body may be formed in the laminate film.
[0057] The type of electrode body is not particularly limited and can be selected according to the scale and purpose of the battery.
[0058] As the electrode body, for example, a stacked body in which electrodes (negative electrode and positive electrode) and a separator disposed between the electrodes are stacked can be used. The number of electrodes and separators included in the electrode body is not particularly limited and can be selected according to the scale or purpose of the battery.
[0059] As the electrode, for example, an electrode in which a layer containing an electrode active material is formed on one surface or both surfaces of a current collector can be used.
[0060] As the separator, for example, a microporous film made of a resin such as polyethylene can be used.
[0061] (Second process)
[0062] In the second step, the electrolyte solution is supplied to the internal space of the outer casing in which the electrode assembly is arranged.
[0063] The method of supplying the electrolyte solution to the internal space of the outer casing is not particularly limited, and can be carried out by a known method.
[0064] The second step may be performed, for example, in a state where the outer casing is arranged so that the opening (the electrolyte injection port) of the outer casing housing the electrode assembly is located on the upper side in the gravity direction.
[0065] From the viewpoint of improving the permeability of the electrolyte solution into the electrode body, the internal space of the outer casing may be depressurized before supplying the electrolyte solution.
[0066] In the second step, the supply of the electrolyte to the internal space of the outer body can be performed once or divided into multiple times. From the perspective of improving the efficiency of the injection operation, the supply of the electrolyte to the internal space of the outer body is preferably performed once. That is, the volume of the internal space of the outer body is preferably designed to be able to supply a sufficient amount of electrolyte at one time.
[0067] In the second step, the supply of the electrolyte solution to the internal space of the outer casing may be performed so that the electrode body is completely immersed in the electrolyte solution, or may be performed so that a part of the electrode body is not immersed in the electrolyte solution.
[0068] The method of sealing the opening after supplying the electrolyte solution is not particularly limited, and the method can be carried out by a known method.
[0069] (Third process)
[0070] In the third step, the portion of the outer casing corresponding to the periphery of the electrode assembly to which the electrolyte solution is supplied is pressed.
[0071] By performing the third step, the electrolyte solution that exists around the electrode body (that is, has not permeated the electrode body) moves toward the electrode body, thereby promoting the permeation of the electrolyte solution into the electrode body.
[0072] The method for carrying out the third step is not particularly limited, and it can be carried out, for example, by roller pressing, hand pressing, or the like.
[0073] The pressure is preferably applied so that the electrolyte solution around the electrode body moves toward the electrode body. For example, the area to be pressed may be moved from the edge of the outer casing toward the center (electrode body side).
[0074] Simultaneously with or after the pressing, a portion of the outer casing corresponding to the periphery of the electrode assembly may be folded toward one of the main surfaces of the battery.
[0075] By bending the portion of the outer casing corresponding to the periphery of the electrode body, for example, the space required for housing the battery in the case can be saved, and the electrolyte can be prevented from leaking around the electrode body.
[0076] When the third step is performed, pressure may be applied to the electrode body in the thickness direction.
[0077] By applying pressure to the electrode body in the thickness direction, it is possible to suppress the electrolyte from flowing into the space between the electrode body and the outer casing, and to allow the electrolyte to efficiently permeate the electrode body.
[0078] From the perspective of allowing the electrolyte to efficiently permeate the electrode body, the pressure applied to the electrode body is preferably uniform in the surface direction of the electrode body. As a method for uniformly applying pressure in the surface direction of the electrode body, a method of applying pressure using a member having a flat surface facing the electrode body, such as a flat plate, can be cited.
[0079] When pressure is applied to the electrode body in the thickness direction, the pressure applied in the thickness direction of the electrode body may be made constant.
[0080] By making the pressure applied in the thickness direction of the electrode body constant, it is possible to prevent the outer casing from being damaged due to excessive pressure applied in the thickness direction of the electrode body caused by the electrolyte solution moving from the periphery of the electrode body to the electrode body side, for example.
[0081] As a method of making the pressure applied in the thickness direction of the electrode body constant, there is a method of applying pressure using a member such as a floating plate that is movable in the thickness direction of the electrode body.
[0082] The form of the battery produced by the method of the present invention is not particularly limited.
[0083] The battery produced by the method of the present invention can also satisfy the conditions of the battery of the present invention described later, for example.
[0084] <Battery>
[0085] A second embodiment of the present invention is a battery including a first outer casing, a second outer casing, and an electrode body disposed between the first outer casing and the second outer casing.
[0086] The first outer casing and the second outer casing each have a region X in contact with the electrode body and a region Y not in contact with the electrode body.
[0087] The region Y is composed of a region Y1 where the first external housing and the second external housing are joined, and a region Y2 where the first external housing and the second external housing are not joined.
[0088] The battery of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0089] Figure 1 to Figure 3 The diagram schematically shows a plan view and a cross-sectional view of a battery in a case where the first outer casing and the second outer casing are one continuous member.
[0090] Figures 4 to 6 The diagram schematically shows a plan view and a cross-sectional view of a battery in a case where a first external housing and a second external housing are two separate members.
[0091] Figure 1 , Figure 2 as well as Figure 3 The battery 10 shown includes a first outer casing 20A and a second outer casing 20B, and an electrode assembly 30 .
[0092] The first external housing 20A has a region X in contact with the electrode body 30 and a region Y not in contact with the electrode body 30. The region Y is composed of a region Y1 where the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B are joined and a region Y2 where the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B are not joined.
[0093] Figure 1The state of the second external housing 20B in FIG. 2 is the same as that of the first external housing 20A, and thus the description thereof will be omitted.
[0094] like Figure 2 As shown, the first external package 20A and the second external package 20B are one continuous member, and the region Y is provided on one side of the electrode body 30 . Figure 2 The structure of the battery 10 shown is a state in which a recess for accommodating the electrode body 30 is formed in each of the first outer casing 20A and the second outer casing 20B (double-cup embossing), but it can also be a state in which a recess for accommodating the electrode body 30 is formed in either the first outer casing 20A or the second outer casing 20B (single-cup embossing).
[0095] Figure 3 This is a cross-sectional view showing a state in which a portion of the battery 10 corresponding to the region Y of the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B is folded toward one main surface side of the battery 10 .
[0096] The first outer casing 20A and the second outer casing 20B used for the battery 10 are respectively composed of a region X in contact with the electrode body 30 and a region Y not in contact with the electrode body 30 .
[0097] Furthermore, the region Y is composed of a region Y1 where the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B are joined, and a region Y2 where the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B are not joined.
[0098] That is, the volume of the internal space formed between the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B (corresponding to the region X and the region Y2 ) is larger than the volume of the electrode assembly 30 .
[0099] Therefore, when the electrolyte is supplied to the internal space of the outer casing, an amount of electrolyte sufficient to permeate the electrode assembly can be supplied in a single operation.
[0100] Furthermore, in the method of the present invention, after the electrolyte is injected, the first outer casing 20A and the second outer casing 20B are pressed at the portion (corresponding to the region Y2) around the electrode body 30. Thus, the electrolyte present around the electrode body 30 can be moved toward the electrode body 30, and the penetration of the electrolyte into the electrode body 30 can be promoted.
[0101] Figure 4 , Figure 5 as well as Figure 6 The battery 10 shown includes a first outer casing 20A and a second outer casing 20B, and an electrode assembly 30 .
[0102] The first external housing 20A has a region X in contact with the electrode body 30 and a region Y not in contact with the electrode body 30. The region Y is composed of a region Y1 where the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B are joined and a region Y2 where the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B are not joined.
[0103] Figure 4 The state of the second external housing 20B in FIG. 2 is the same as that of the first external housing 20A, and thus the description thereof will be omitted.
[0104] like Figure 5 As shown, the first external package 20A and the second external package 20B are two separate members, and the region Y is provided on both sides of the electrode body 30 . Figure 5 The structure of the battery 10 shown is a state in which a recess for accommodating the electrode body 30 is formed in each of the first outer casing 20A and the second outer casing 20B (double cup embossing), but it can also be a state in which a recess for accommodating the electrode body 30 is formed in either the first outer casing 20A or the second outer casing 20B (single cup embossing).
[0105] Figure 6 This is a cross-sectional view showing a state in which the portions (corresponding to the region Y) of the first and second external housings 20A and 20B of the battery 10 corresponding to the periphery of the electrode assembly 30 are folded toward one main surface side of the battery 10 .
[0106] The first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B used in the battery 10 are each composed of a region X in contact with the electrode body 30 and a region Y not in contact with the electrode body 30 .
[0107] Furthermore, the region Y is composed of a region Y1 where the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B are joined, and a region Y2 where the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B are not joined.
[0108] That is, the volume of the internal space formed between the first external housing 20A and the second external housing 20B (corresponding to the region X and the region Y2 ) is larger than the volume of the electrode assembly 30 .
[0109] Therefore, when the electrolyte is supplied to the internal space of the outer casing, an amount of electrolyte sufficient to permeate the electrode assembly can be supplied in a single operation.
[0110] Furthermore, in the method of the present invention, after the electrolyte is injected, the first outer casing 20A and the second outer casing 20B are pressed at the portion (corresponding to the region Y2) around the electrode body 30. Thus, the electrolyte present around the electrode body 30 can be moved toward the electrode body 30, and the penetration of the electrolyte into the electrode body 30 can be promoted.
[0111] The details and preferred embodiments of the electrode assembly and the outer casing in the battery of the present invention are the same as the details and preferred embodiments of the electrode assembly and the outer casing described in connection with the method for producing the battery of the present invention.
[0112] From the viewpoint of improving the efficiency of the liquid injection operation, the area of region Y2 in the first and second outer housings is preferably 5% or more of the area of region X in the first and second outer housings, more preferably 10% or more, and even more preferably 15% or more.
[0113] From the viewpoint of appropriately ensuring the joining portion between the first outer housing and the second outer housing, the area of region Y2 in the first outer housing and the second outer housing is preferably 35% or less of the area of region X in the first outer housing and the second outer housing, more preferably 30% or less, and even more preferably 25% or less.
[0114] From the viewpoint of improving the efficiency of the liquid injection operation, the area of the region Y2 in the first and second outer housings is preferably 5% or more of the area of the region Y1 in the first and second outer housings, more preferably 10% or more, and even more preferably 15% or more.
[0115] From the viewpoint of appropriately ensuring the joining portion between the first outer body and the second outer body, the area of region Y2 in the first outer body and the second outer body is preferably less than 95% of the area of region Y1 in the first outer body and the second outer body, more preferably less than 90%, and further preferably less than 85%.
[0116] The battery of the present invention can also be mounted on an electric vehicle. Hereinafter, an example in which the battery of the present invention is applied to an electric vehicle will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the following description, the "battery cell 20" corresponds to the battery of the present invention.
[0117] Figure 7 1 is a schematic top view showing the main parts of a vehicle 100 to which a battery pack 10 according to an embodiment is applied. Figure 7 As shown, the vehicle 100 is an electric vehicle (BEV) equipped with a battery pack 10 under the floor. In addition, the arrows UP, FR, and LH in each figure respectively indicate the upper side in the vehicle vertical direction, the front side in the vehicle front-rear direction, and the left side in the vehicle width direction. When the front-rear, left-right, up-down directions are used for explanation, unless otherwise specified, the front-rear directions in the vehicle front-rear direction, the left-right directions in the vehicle width direction, and the up-down directions in the vehicle vertical direction are indicated.
[0118] As an example, the vehicle 100 of the present embodiment is provided with a DC / DC converter 102, an electric compressor 104, and a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heater 106 at a position closer to the front side of the vehicle than the battery pack 10. In addition, a motor 108, a gear box 110, an inverter 112, and a charger 114 are provided at a position closer to the rear side of the vehicle than the battery pack 10.
[0119] The DC current output from the battery pack 10 is regulated in voltage by the DC / DC converter 102 and then supplied to the electric compressor 104, the PTC heater 106, the inverter 112, etc. Furthermore, by supplying electric power to the motor 108 via the inverter 112, the rear wheels rotate and the vehicle 100 travels.
[0120] A charging port 116 is provided at the right side of the rear portion of the vehicle 100 . By connecting a charging plug of an external charging device (not shown) to the charging port 116 , electric power can be stored in the battery pack 10 via the charger 114 .
[0121] The configuration and structure of each component constituting the vehicle 100 are not limited to the above-mentioned structure. For example, it can also be applied to a hybrid vehicle (HV: Hybrid Vehicle) or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV: Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) equipped with an engine. In addition, in the present embodiment, the motor 108 is mounted on the rear of the vehicle and is a rear-wheel drive vehicle, but it is not limited to this. The motor 108 can also be mounted on the front of the vehicle. A front-wheel drive vehicle can also be mounted on the front and rear of the vehicle. In addition, it can also be a vehicle with a hub motor on each wheel.
[0122] The battery pack 10 is configured to include a plurality of battery modules 11. In the present embodiment, as an example, 10 battery modules 11 are provided. Specifically, five battery modules 11 are arranged along the front-rear direction of the vehicle on the right side of the vehicle 100, and five battery modules 11 are arranged along the front-rear direction of the vehicle on the left side of the vehicle 100. In addition, each battery module 11 is electrically connected.
[0123] Figure 8 1 is a schematic three-dimensional diagram of the battery module 11. Figure 8 As shown, the battery module 11 is formed into a substantially rectangular parallelepiped shape with the vehicle width direction as the long side direction. In addition, the outer shell of the battery module 11 is formed of an aluminum alloy. For example, aluminum die castings are joined at both ends of an aluminum alloy extrusion by laser welding, etc., to form the outer shell of the battery module 11.
[0124] A pair of voltage terminals 12 and a connector 14 are provided at both ends of the battery module 11 in the vehicle width direction. A flexible printed circuit board 21 described later is connected to the connector 14. Bus bars (not shown) are welded to both ends of the battery module 11 in the vehicle width direction.
[0125] The battery module 11 has a length MW in the vehicle width direction of, for example, 350 mm to 600 mm, a length ML in the vehicle front-rear direction of, for example, 150 mm to 250 mm, and a height MH in the vehicle up-down direction of, for example, 80 mm to 110 mm.
[0126] Fig. 9 FIG. 1 is a top view of the battery module 11 with the upper cover removed. Fig. 9 As shown, a plurality of battery cells 20 are housed in an aligned state inside the battery module 11. In the present embodiment, as an example, 24 battery cells 20 are aligned in the vehicle front-rear direction and bonded to each other.
[0127] A flexible printed circuit (FPC) 21 is disposed on the battery cell 20. The flexible printed circuit 21 is formed in a strip shape with the vehicle width direction as the long side direction, and thermistors 23 are provided at both ends of the flexible printed circuit 21. The thermistor 23 is not bonded to the battery cell 20, but is pressed toward the battery cell 20 by the upper cover of the battery module 11.
[0128] In addition, one or more buffers (not shown) are stored inside the battery module 11. For example, the buffer is a thin plate-shaped member that can be elastically deformed, and is arranged between adjacent battery cells 20 with the arrangement direction of the battery cells 20 as the thickness direction. In this embodiment, as an example, buffers are arranged at both ends and the center of the battery module 11 in the long side direction.
[0129] Fig.10 2 is a schematic diagram of a battery cell 20 housed in a battery module 11 as viewed from the thickness direction. Fig.10 As shown, the battery cell 20 is formed in a substantially rectangular plate shape, and an electrode body (not shown) is accommodated therein. The electrode body is formed by laminating a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator, and is sealed by a laminate film 22 .
[0130] In this embodiment, as an example, the storage part of the electrode body is formed by folding and pasting the embossed sheet-shaped laminate film 22. The laminate film 22 can adopt any one of a single cup embossed structure with 1 embossing and a double cup embossed structure with 2 embossings. The laminate film 22 in one embodiment has a single cup embossed structure with a drawing depth of about 8 mm to 10 mm.
[0131] The upper ends of both ends of the battery cell 20 in the longitudinal direction are bent, and the corners become the outer shape. In addition, the upper end of the battery cell 20 is bent, and the fixing band 24 is wound around the upper end of the battery cell 20 along the longitudinal direction.
[0132] Terminals (tabs) 26 are provided at both ends of the battery cell 20 in the longitudinal direction. In the present embodiment, as an example, the terminals 26 are provided at positions offset downward from the vertical center of the battery cell 20. The terminals 26 are joined to bus bars (not shown) by laser welding or the like.
