Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a hair care composition for reducing oil transfer from the scalp to the hair. Background Art
[0002] Oil of the scalp affects many aspects of scalp and hair physiology and satisfaction with hair appearance and feel. The perception of unwanted hair oiliness is influenced by several endogenous factors (such as scalp type, hair type, hormones, age, diet) and exogenous factors (such as hair care products, climate and lifestyle). Although today's shampoo products are designed to remove oil, people are often dissatisfied with the length of time their hair feels clean. Shampoos generally do not affect the transfer of scalp oil from the scalp to the hair, which occurs all day and all night. Certain materials and formulations have not yet been found that can change the polarity of the hair surface, which helps to reduce the transfer of oil from the scalp to the hair. Summary of the invention
[0003] The present application relates to a hair care product composition comprising a material or mixture of materials that renders the hair polar, wherein one or more of the materials are selected from synthetic or naturally derived hydrophilic polymers and / or cationic surfactants. The present invention relates to a hair care composition comprising from about 0.05% to 5% of a hydrophilic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl alcohol and derivatives, polyacrylate ethers, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl pyrrolidone copolymers (vinyl pyrrolidone / dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate), vinyl cyanide, vinyl phosphates, vinyl phosphonates, vinyl sulfates, vinyl sulfonates, polyethylene imine and other polyamines, cellulose, collagen, polyethylene glycol and maleic acid / olefin polycarboxylate copolymers and mixtures thereof; wherein the hair care composition provides a water contact angle of <85 on the hair. The present invention relates to a hair care composition wherein the total lipid value on the hair is reduced compared to a control, and wherein the total lipid (CH 2 ) measured, the total lipid value on the hair is less than 0.15. Unless otherwise specified, the term "polymer" as used herein includes any type of polymer, including homopolymers and copolymers.
[0019] The mechanism of action for reducing oil transfer from the scalp to the hair involves surface modification of the hair surface, creating a polar surface (hydrophilicity, high surface energy, lower water contact angle on the hair). Since the hair growing from the scalp is hydrophobic in nature, after showering with a typical cleansing shampoo or hair product, the hair remains the same degree of hydrophobicity or increases in hydrophobicity due to the deposition of conditioning ingredients such as silicones, fatty alcohols. During the day and night, before the next wash, oil will continue to transfer from the scalp to the hair, and higher hydrophobic hair causes more and faster oil transfer from the scalp to the hair. Current technology focuses on removing oil, reducing oil secretion from the sebaceous glands, which does not prevent the hair from becoming greasy during the day and night, because oil will continue to transfer from the scalp to the hair. Therefore, it is desirable to incorporate hydrophilic polymers and / or cationic surfactants into the hair composition to change the polarity of the hair surface and help reduce oil transfer from the scalp to the hair. Reducing oil transfer improves the feel of the hair by reducing or eliminating the greasy or oily feel. This treatment makes the hair cleaner by making the hair surface polar and reducing the transfer of oil from the scalp to the hair. The degree of hydrophilicity on the hair can be determined by measuring the water contact angle using a mobile surface analyzer (MSA), which is a technique known in the art. The amount of oil reduction on the hair can be measured using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to measure total lipid
[0020] (CH 2 ), triglycerides, fatty acids or using a sebum meter, which is a technique known in the art.

[0043] Formulations and Examples
[0044] The following are non-limiting examples of the present invention. The examples are provided for illustrative purposes only and should not be construed as limitations of the present invention, as many variations thereof are possible without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention, which will be recognized by those of ordinary skill in the art.
[0045] Formulation preparation and treatment regimen to evaluate the effectiveness of hydrophilic polymers and cationic surfactants Leave-on Treatment composition preparation :
[0046] The leave-on treatment composition is prepared by adding the hydrophilic polymer and fragrance (if desired) to an ethanol / water carrier and stirring until completely dissolved. The pH of the solution is adjusted to a final pH of 4.0-6.0 using sodium hydroxide (50% w / w) or citric acid. Sepigel Zen (if desired) is then added and the solution is mixed using a high-speed mixer at 1800 rpm to 2300 rpm for 2 minutes to 5 minutes until a homogenous composition is obtained.
[0047] Leave-in hair treatment solution :
[0048] A 0.20 g amount of each composition of Examples I to IV was spread via a syringe onto a separate natural virgin brown hair switch weighing 2.0 g (dosage 0.10 g solution / g hair). The hair was allowed to air dry and then the oil was transferred from the scalp simulant using the oil transfer method described above. The oil on the hair surface was then measured using FTIR or a sebum meter.
[0049] Preparation of shampoo composition :
[0050] In addition to preventing the transfer of oil from the scalp to the hair, shampoo compositions also deliver desired shampooing to the consumer.
[0051] The shampoo composition comprises from about 0.01% to about 5%, alternatively from about 0.05% to about 3%, alternatively from about 0.1% to about 2%, by weight of the shampoo composition, of a compound selected from the group consisting of hydrophilic polymers and mixtures thereof. After applying the shampoo composition as described herein to the hair, the method then comprises rinsing the shampoo composition from the hair.
[0052] Shampoo Hair Treatment Program :
[0053] All tests were conducted on virgin Caucasian hair weighing approximately 2.0 grams and having a length of approximately 6 inches. The hair clusters are commercially available from IHIP (International Hair Importers). Three hair clusters 1 per rinse-off composition were used per dose. Each hair cluster was washed with a clarifying shampoo and then treated with a rinse-off conditioner according to the following protocol. A 0.20 g amount of shampoo was spread onto the individual hair clusters via a syringe. That is, the dose was 0.10 g of shampoo per gram of hair. Each application included adding shampoo to the hair, emulsifying for 30 seconds, and then rinsing for 30 seconds. Excess water was squeezed out of the hair clusters.
[0054] Preparation of rinse-off treatment composition :
[0055] The rinse-off treatment composition can be made by any conventional method well known in the art. The cationic surfactant is mixed with a fatty alcohol and heated to about 66°C to about 85°C to form an oil phase. Disodium edetate, methylchloroisothiazolinone (preservative) and water are mixed separately and heated to about 20°C to about 48°C to form an aqueous phase. The oil phase is mixed into the aqueous phase under high shear to form a gel matrix. The remaining components are added to the gel matrix under stirring. The composition is then allowed to cool to room temperature.
[0056] Rinse-off hair treatment solutions :
[0057] All tests were conducted on virgin Caucasian hair weighing approximately 2.0 grams and having a length of approximately 6 inches. The hair switches are commercially available from IHIP (International Hair Importers). Three hair switches were used per rinse-off composition per dose. Each hair switch was washed with a clarifying shampoo and then treated with a rinse-off conditioner according to the following protocol.
[0058] A 0.20 g amount of clear shampoo was spread onto individual hair switches via a syringe. That is, the dosage was 0.10 g shampoo per gram of hair. Each application consisted of adding shampoo to the hair, emulsifying for 30 seconds, then rinsing for 30 seconds. Excess water was squeezed from the hair switch, then a 0.1 g / g rinse-off hair treatment was applied and squeezed for 30 seconds, left on the hair for 15 minutes, then rinsed off with water for 30 seconds.
[0059] Oil transfer from scalp simulator to hair switches :
[0060] Obtain a rectangular scalp surface mimic (Biological Skin Plate #F-1, made of polyurethane elastomer material, 192 mm long, 129 mm wide, 5 mm thick, obtained from Ohken Co., Ltd. Japan), wash with 15% SLS aqueous solution, and air dry. Apply 0.38 g of artificial sebum (obtained from Advanced testing laboratories, Cincinnati) using a finger glove and spread thoroughly with slight pressure to cover the entire area of the scalp mimic. Place treated or untreated hair on the scalp mimic, and place another scalp mimic on top of the hair switch so that the hair switch is sandwiched between the two scalp mimics. Apply gentle pressure for 5 seconds, and then use FTIR or sebum meter ( SM815, Courage + Khazakaelectronic GmbH), using hair to measure the oil transferred from the scalp simulation to the hair. The % amount of oil transferred from the scalp simulation to the hair switch is calculated as follows:
[0061] A = amount of oil measured using a sebum meter on hair treated with a composition containing a hydrophilic polymer and / or a cationic surfactant
[0062] B = Oil level measured using a sebum meter on hair treated with a vehicle containing no hydrophilic polymer and / or cationic surfactant
[0063] % oil transferred from scalp mimic to hair = [(BA) x 100] / B
[0064] Evaluation Methodology
[0065] Hair switches treated with shampoo, rinse-off conditioner, scrub, and leave-in treatment compositions were evaluated using the following method before and after oil transfer using a scalp mimic.
[0066] a. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy measurement
[0067] After braiding, the hair clusters were measured using mid-infrared ATR-FTIR (Perkin Elmer Frontier FTIR with Specac Golden Gate single-hop diamond crystal ATR accessory) at 6 different locations in the middle of the cluster. The measurement range was from 4000 cm-1 in absorption mode. 1 The ATR clamping pressure was controlled using a pressure torque fixed at 70 Ncm for all hair switch measurements. The spectra were analyzed using a MATLAB-based code to pre-process the spectra and calculate the total lipids, which were defined as CH 2The ratio of the telescopic peak area divided by the amide 2 peak area on the baseline of a single spectrum. Preprocessing includes baseline correction and vector normalization. The vector normalization is calculated from the average absorbance value of the spectrum in the selected spectral range. The calculated average value is then subtracted from the spectrum, which is centered on the spectrum with absorbance = 0. The sum of the squares of all absorbance values is then calculated and the corresponding spectrum is divided by the square root of this sum. The vector norm of the resulting spectrum is 1.
[0068]
[0069] a′(k)=a(k)-a m
[0070]
[0071] CH 2 The stretching peak area is calculated from the absorption spectrum from 2946 cm -1 Right edge to 2837cm -1 The integral area above the left edge and the straight baseline is obtained by -1 and 2700cm -1 The amide 2 peak area is obtained by the absorption spectrum from 1580 cm -1 Right edge to 1475cm -1 The integral area of the left edge is obtained.
[0072] b. Sebum meter measurement
[0073] A hair switch (2 g, 10 inches, virgin Caucasian or damaged hair provided by International Hair Importers) is placed on a clean surface and then a sebum meter (Courage and Khazaka MPA580 or 815 console) is used with the box entering the console to establish a blank baseline. The box with the opaque film is firmly and closely contacted with the hair for 30 seconds until the 30 second counter reaches 0. The box is reinserted into the console and the oil value displayed on the screen is recorded. Move to a new measurement section of the box by pressing the slider of the box and then pulling it up and placing it on the hair at a new area 1 cm from the previous measurement. Calculate the amount of oil transferred as allocated above.
[0074] Hair switch appearance evaluation method: The treated hair switches were kept at room temperature, laboratory conditions (32°C-35°C, 50% RH) for 2 hours, and then ten expert raters were asked to rate their respective hair oiliness appearance based on a 5-point scale, with 5 being the highest (very oily) and 1 being the lowest rating (not oily).

[0215] Results: Table 1 shows the rinse-off conditioner compositions used to treat the hair switches. As shown in the table, the hair treated with these compositions had different amounts of oil transferred from the scalp mimic to the hair switch. Hair treated with the composition of Control I had less oil transfer compared to Control J because SAPDMA makes the hair more polar than BTMS. In addition, Examples K and L, which contain hydrophilic PVP copolymer and sodium hyaluronate in addition to SAPDMA, further reduce the % amount of oil transferred from the scalp mimic to the hair switch compared to Control I without these hydrophilic polymers. Similarly, Examples M and N, which contain hydrophilic PVP copolymer and sodium hyaluronate in addition to BTMS, further reduce the % amount of oil transferred from the scalp mimic to the hair switch compared to Control J without these hydrophilic polymers.
[0216] plan :
