The aerosol generating device 3 further comprises a heater 7 for heating the aerosol generating article, in particular an aerosol generating segment of the aerosol generating article. The heater 7 may, for example, comprise a resistive heater element or an induction heating component configured to heat the aerosol generating segment of the aerosol generating article. The aerosol generating device 3 further comprises a rechargeable device battery 9 for powering one or more functions of the aerosol generating device 3. For example, the device battery 9 may power the heater 7.

[0264] The aerosol generating system 1 further comprises a charging case 11. The charging case 11 extends along an axial direction 13 from a first end 15 of the charging case 11 to a second end 17 of the charging case 11. The main extension direction of the charging case 11 is along the axial direction 13.

[0265] The charging box 11 includes an outer cover 19. Figure 1 , the charging case 11 is shown with the outer cover 19 in a storage or closed configuration. Figure 2 The charging case 11 is shown with the outer cover 19 in an closed or open configuration.

[0266] As in Figure 2As shown in , the charging case 11 further comprises a case body 23. The case body 23 extends along the axial direction 13 and defines a docking compartment 25. The docking compartment 25 is configured to removably receive the aerosol generating device 3. A user can store the aerosol generating device 3 in the docking compartment 25 of the charging case 11 or insert it into the docking compartment of the charging case, for example, between uses. The case body 23 can be removably inserted into the housing member 49 and can include electronic components for charging the battery 9 and electronic components for charging the battery 27.

[0267] The charging case 11 includes a charging case battery 27. The charging case battery 27 is in electrical contact with a battery interface 29 of the charging case 11. The battery interface 29 is electrically connected to an electrical device interface 31 provided in the docking compartment 25, for example, via electronic circuitry for charging the device battery 9. When the aerosol generating device 3 is received in the docking compartment 25, the aerosol generating device 3 can be electrically connected to the electrical device interface 31 to allow the device battery 9 to be charged with electrical energy that can be derived from the charging case battery 27. Thus, the device battery 9 can be recharged between uses while being stored in the docking compartment 25.

[0268] As in Figure 3 As best shown in FIG, the charging case battery 27 is received in a battery compartment 33 defined by the case body 23. The case body 23 has a top plate surface 35 and a bottom plate surface 37 that bound the battery compartment 33 along the axial direction 13.

[0269] Further, the case body 23 has a side wall 39 extending along the axial direction 13 between the top plate surface 35 and the bottom plate surface 37. The top plate surface 35, the bottom plate surface 37, and the side surface 39 together define the battery compartment 33. The battery compartment 33 has a battery replacement opening 41 through which the charging case battery 27 can be inserted into or removed from the battery compartment 33. The battery compartment 33 may include additional features for assisting in removing the charging case battery 27, such as a fabric strap or fabric strip that can be partially wrapped around an inserted charging case battery 27 so that the inserted charging case battery 27 can be pulled out via the strap or strip. Generally, the battery compartment 33 and the corresponding compartment cover 43 described herein are configured such that the charging case battery 27 can be easily removed from and inserted into the battery compartment and the corresponding compartment cover by a user without the need for special tools or destructive or irreversible processes (such as destroying the housing wall, severing the wired connection to the battery), so as to allow the user to replace the charging case battery after the charging case battery is defective or has insufficient capacity.

[0270] The charging case 11 may further include a battery compartment cover 43. The battery compartment cover 43 is operable between a closed state and an open state. Figure 2In the closed state, the battery compartment cover 43 covers the battery replacement opening 41, making the charging box battery 27 in the battery compartment 33 inaccessible and unable to be removed through the battery replacement opening 41. Figure 3 . In the open state, the battery compartment cover 43 allows access to the battery compartment 33 through the battery replacement opening 41 to remove or insert the charging case battery 27. In the closed state, the battery compartment cover 43 is attached to the case body 23. In the open state, the battery compartment cover is removed from the case body 23.

[0271] In a first embodiment, the battery compartment cover 43 can be reversibly attached to the case body 23 via a snap-fit connection. The snap-fit connection includes a structure 45 provided at the battery compartment cover 43 and a corresponding counter-structure 47 provided at the case body 23. The structure 45 is configured to engage the corresponding counter-structure 47. For example, one of the structure 45 and the counter-structure 47 can include a hook structure, and the other of the structure 45 and the counter-structure 47 can include a recessed portion that receives the hook structure. The hook structure can be deformable by having a tab or surface that can be engaged by a tool or a user's finger for bending the hook structure to allow the battery compartment cover 43 to be removed from the case body 23 without damage.

[0272] Alternatively or additionally, the battery compartment cover 43 may be reversibly attached to the case body 23 by one or more attachment elements separate from the battery compartment cover 43 and the case body 23, such as screws, pins, snap fasteners, a Velcro-like surface.

[0273] The battery compartment cover 43 may be plate-shaped. The battery compartment cover 43 may include a curvature in a cross-sectional plane perpendicular to the axial direction 13. Alternatively, the battery compartment cover 43 may be non-curved along the axial direction 13. Figure 3 As shown in , for example, the curvature of the battery compartment cover 43 corresponds to the curvature of the box body 23 .

[0274] As in Figure 3 and 4As best shown in FIG, the charging case 11 includes a housing member 49 attached to the case body 23. The housing member 49 can be a single-piece metal structure. The housing member 49 can form at least a portion of the external appearance of the charging case 11. The housing member 49 includes an end cover portion 51, which forms an end surface of the charging case 11 relative to the axial direction 13. The end cover portion 51 extends substantially perpendicular to the axial direction 13. The end cover portion 51 each includes an end surface 53 that is visible when the charging case 11 is viewed along or against the axial direction 13. Further, the end cover portion 51 each includes a side surface 55 that is visible when the charging case 11 is viewed along a viewing direction perpendicular to the axial direction 13. The side surfaces 55 can form edge portions of the charging case 11 at the first end 15 and the second end 17 of the charging case 11, respectively. The edge portions can be formed as rounded smooth surfaces. In a cross-sectional plane parallel to the axial direction 13, the side surfaces 55 of the end cover portion 51 are curved. The housing member 49 may further include a connecting portion 59 extending parallel to the axial direction 13 and connecting the end cover portions 51 to each other. For example, the housing member 49 including the connecting portion 59 and the two end cover portions 51 may be made from a single aluminum or aluminum alloy casting element, thereby forming a frame for holding the box body 23, which may be located between the two end cover portions 51.

[0275] As in Figure 1 As shown in , the display 57 can be received in a receiving cavity of at least one end cover part 51. In particular, the receiving cavity can be provided in the side surface 55 of the end cover part 51. The display 57 can also be curved. The curvature of the display 57 can be the same as the curvature of the side surface 55 of the end cover part 51. The display 57 can be flush with the surface of the end cover part 51. The display 57 can, for example, indicate the charging status of the charging box battery 27 or the device battery 9, and can be capable of displaying other information related to the operating status of the aerosol generating system 1. Figure 1 In a variant shown in dashed lines in FIG, it is also possible that a relatively large area of one of the end cap parts 51 is covered by the display 57, for example so that the display 57 is arranged in the center of the end cap part 51, thereby forming a curved display screen, and there is a small surrounding border formed by the end cap part 51; or the entire end cap part 51 is covered by the display 57. The display 57 can have an oval shape or a longitudinal shape with two curved side edges. The display 57 can include a curved high-resolution screen.

[0276] The outer cover 19 may be removably attached to the box body 23 . Figure 3The outer cover 19 is shown removed from the box body 23. The outer cover 19 includes a connecting portion 61 for removably attaching to the box body 23. Preferably, the connecting portion 61 of the outer cover 19 can be attached to the box body 23 by magnetic interaction. A magnet 63 is provided at the box body 23 to magnetically interact with a corresponding magnet 65 provided in the connecting portion 61 of the outer cover 19. Alternatively, the magnet 63 of the box body 23 or the magnet 65 of the outer cover 19 can be replaced with a metal structure susceptible to magnetic interaction.

[0277] The outer cover 19 includes a flexible flap portion 21. The flexible flap portion 21 includes a free end 67 of the outer cover 19.
