[0003] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 964,527, filed on January 22, 2020, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.

[0004] field

[0005] The present disclosure relates generally to cosmetic compositions, and in particular to anhydrous cosmetic compositions and compositions containing low amounts of water, and methods of making and using the same.

[0006] Overview

[0007] One embodiment is an anhydrous cosmetic composition comprising at least one silicone resin and at least one emulsifier.

[0008] Another embodiment is a cosmetic composition comprising at least one resinous silicone resin; at least one emulsifier; and less than about 10% water. Detailed description

[0009] Unless otherwise stated, "a" or "an" means one or more.

[0010] As used herein, the term "about" before a particular numerical value may mean ±20% of the numerical value; ±18% of the numerical value, ±15% of the numerical value; ±12% of the numerical value; ±8% of the numerical value; ±5% of the numerical value; ±3% of the numerical value; ±2% of the numerical value; ±1% of the numerical value or ±0.5% of the numerical value.

[0011] Unless otherwise stated, all content information of composition ingredients expressed as % refers to mass % relative to the total mass of the composition, unless otherwise specified.

[0012] Current long-wear lip compositions can have a number of drawbacks. For example, they can be very sticky and uncomfortable to use. They can also constrict the skin and dry out the lips. Furthermore, if they are liquid, they can overflow from the container holding the composition.

[0013] The present inventors have developed a cosmetic composition that eliminates one or more deficiencies of current long-lasting lip makeup compositions. Specifically, the present inventors have developed a cosmetic composition comprising at least one silicone resin and at least one emulsifier, which may contain a small amount of water and / or be anhydrous. As used herein, the term "anhydrous" may mean that the composition contains less than 5% by mass of water, or less than 4.5% by mass of water, or less than 4% by mass of water, or less than 3.5% by mass of water, or less than 3% by mass of water, or less than 2.5% by mass of water, or less than 2% by mass of water, or less than 1.5% by mass of water, or less than 1% by mass of water, or 0.5% by mass of water, or less than 0.2% by mass of water, or less than 0.1% by mass of water, or less than 0.05% by mass of water, or less than 0.02% by mass of water, or less than 0.01% by mass of water.

[0014] In some embodiments, water can be present in the composition as, for example, bound water, which can be, for example, water of crystallization in a salt, and / or as trace amounts of water absorbed by one or more starting materials (raw materials) used to prepare the composition.

[0015] In some embodiments, the composition may contain a small amount of water, which may mean that the water content in the composition is about 10% or less. This amount of water may be part of one or more starting materials (raw materials) and / or may be present as part of one or more solvents. Using this amount, the composition can be processed into, for example, an emulsion. The present composition can have a smooth and creamy texture, which can provide good coverage using a single application of the composition to a subject, such as a human, on a keratinous surface such as skin, for example, lips. At the same time, it can be worn lightly / weightlessly.

[0016] The composition can be a long-lasting makeup composition. As used herein, the term "long-lasting makeup" means that the composition can last for at least 4 to 24 hours, or at least 6 to 24 hours, or at least 8 to 24 hours, or at least 10 to 24 hours, or at least 12 to 24 hours, or at least 14 hours, or at least 16 hours, or at least 18 hours without interrupting the aesthetic appearance. The composition of the present invention can also have a silky feel without skin tugging due to the presence of at least one emulsifier, which in some embodiments can include at least one silicone emulsifier, at least one polyglycerol emulsifier, or a combination thereof.

[0017] The composition can be creamy in texture, comfortable to wear, and have bright, vivid colors. The composition can provide a long-lasting makeup effect while having freshness and moisturizing / hydrating properties. The composition can be highly pigmented and have good coverage, which means that the composition deposits densely and evenly on keratinous surfaces such as the skin, for example, the lips. The composition can be easily removed with, for example, an oil-based remover. The composition may not stain, which is a beneficial property that consumers consider. The composition can be non-sticky and comfortable to wear. The composition can be stable and not separate over time.

[0018] The present composition can be used in many makeup products. In addition, the application of the present composition can include skin care products, sunscreen products, deodorants or hair products. In such products, the composition can be in liquid form, such as a thick liquid, gel or cream or solid form. In some embodiments, the composition can be a lip composition, such as a lipstick (lipstick) or lip balm (lip balm) composition. In some embodiments, the composition can be a blush (blush) composition. In some embodiments, the composition can be a foundation (foundation) composition. In some embodiments, the composition can be a concealer (concealer) composition. In some embodiments, the composition can be an eyebrow composition. In some embodiments, the composition can be a mascara (mascara) composition. In some embodiments, the composition can be a sunscreen composition.

[0019] Although, in some embodiments, the composition may contain high concentrations of one or more texturizing powders and one or more pigments, the composition may remain stable and have good cosmetic hold.

[0020] As used herein, the term "stable" means that the composition does not undergo any separation of its components, color change, and / or texture change over time, for example, up to two years under ambient conditions (e.g., 25°C / 65% RH) and up to four weeks under accelerated conditions (e.g., 50°C / 65% RH).

[0021] In some embodiments, the cosmetic composition can be used alone. In other words, the composition can be applied alone to a keratinous surface or substrate such as skin, for example, lips, or hair of a subject, such as a human, without another composition.

[0022] In some embodiments, the cosmetic composition may be used with another product, such as a topcoat, primer, or powder.

[0023] The composition may comprise at least one silicone resin, which may be solid or liquid. The term "silicone resin" may refer to a multidimensional structure, such as a branched or cage-like structure, having a basic backbone polymer structure comprising or consisting of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms.

[0024] Silicone resins, also known as siloxane resins, may be described using the "MDTQ" nomenclature, the resin being described as a function of the various siloxane monomer units it comprises, the letters "MDTQ" characterizing each type of unit.

[0025] The letter "M" represents a monofunctional unit of the formula R1R2R3SiO, in which the silicon atom is bonded to only one oxygen.

[0026] The letter "D" represents a difunctional unit R1R2SiO2, in which a silicon atom is bonded to two oxygen atoms.

[0028] The letter "Q" represents a tetrafunctional unit of formula SiO4, in which a silicon atom is bonded to four oxygen atoms.

[0029] Such resins are described, for example, in Encyclopedia of Polymer Science and Engineering, Vol. 15, John Wiley and Sons, New York, (1989), pp. 265-270, and U.S. Pat. Nos. 2,676,182, 3,627,851, 3,772,247, 5,248,739, 5,082,706, 5,319,040, 5,302,685, and 4,935,484.

[0030] In units M, D, and T, R i The functional groups, i.e. R1, R2 and R3, may be the same or different. Each of R1, R2 and R3 may be, for example, a hydrocarbon-based group, such as an alkyl group containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms, an aryl group, including a phenyl group, a phenylalkyl group or a hydroxyl group.

[0031] Various silicone resins with different properties can be obtained from various combinations of units. The properties of these polymers are mainly determined by the type of monomer (or unit), the group R iThe silicone resin used in the composition may be, for example, an MQ-type silicone resin, a T-type silicone resin, an MQT-type silicone resin, or a combination thereof. The use of D units may be optional. However, it may be preferred that the silicone resin, such as an MQT resin, does not contain any D units. In some embodiments, the at least one silicone resin may comprise at least one MQT silicone resin, which may be, for example, a phenyl-modified MQT silicone resin (MQT-Ph resin). In some embodiments, the at least one silicone resin may comprise polyphenylsilsesquioxane and trimethylsiloxysilicate.

[0120]

[0121]

[0122] The exemplary compositions of Tables 1-7 are prepared as follows. Heat all compounds of Phase A in a sealed main container at 85-90°C and mix with a Lighting Mixer (IKA RW20) at 250-2500 RPM until homogeneous. Add the compounds of Phase B (if applicable) to the main container and mix at 80-85°C. Continue mixing until all compounds are thoroughly dispersed. Add the compounds of Phase C (if applicable) to the main container at 80-83°C. Continue mixing until a homogeneous composition is obtained. The final composition can be poured into suitable containers at 80-8°C.

[0124]

[0125]

[0126] *The trade names of the ingredients in this formulation are the same as those in the previous examples.

[0127] Add all the ingredients of Phase A to a fully covered main container and heat to 90-95°C. Homogenize the batch at 1400RPM (using a Primix homogenizer) for 5 minutes or until the gel is completely dispersed and uniform. Then add Phase B and continue homogenizing until the mixture is uniform. Next, add the Phase C ingredients and continue homogenizing. Both steps are performed at 90-95°C. The temperature is then lowered to 80-85°C, and the ingredients of Phases D and E are added and homogenized. In a separate container, combine all the ingredients of Phase F and heat to 80-85°C with proper mixing while keeping the batch covered to avoid water loss. Next, combine the two mixtures and mix slowly at 83-85°C and homogenize at 1400-1700RPM for a minimum of 5 minutes. Finally, add the ingredients of Phases G and H until all ingredients are fully dispersed.

[0128] Table 9.

[0129]

[0130]

[0131] The evaluation method of the compositions in Table 9 is as follows:

[0132] Five (5) independent panelists (who were typical lipstick users, ranging in age from 22 to 60 years) tested each composition on separate days. The panelists were asked to apply the product only once and leave it on for 8-12 hours without any restrictions (eating and drinking allowed). No reapplication of the test product was allowed. At the end of the wear time, the products were evaluated for the characteristics listed in Table 9. All parameters were rated using a grading scale of 1 to 3 as follows:

[0133] 3: Very good: The panelist reported that the lipstick had all of the properties listed above.

[0134] 2: Acceptable: The panelist reports that the lipstick has only some of the characteristics listed above.

[0135] 1: Unacceptable: The panelist reports that the lipstick does not possess any of the characteristics listed above.

[0136] Table 10. Control Composition 1 from Table 9 (without PEG-based emulsifier)

[0137]

[0138]

[0139] *The trade names of the ingredients in this formulation are the same as those in the previous examples.

[0140] Control Composition 2: Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Water, Synthetic Wax, Polyethylene, Isododecane, C9-12 Alkane, Lauroyl Lysine, Jojoba Esters, Silica, HDI / Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Mica, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax, Ethylene / Propylene / Styrene Copolymer, PEG-12 Dimethicone, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Coco-Caprylate / Caprate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Glycerin, Agar, 4-Methyl-1,3-Dioxolane-2-One, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Acacia Officinalis Flower Wax, Polyglyceryl-3, Butylene / Ethylene / Styrene Copolymer, Silicone Resin, Butylated Hydroxytoluene, Vitamin E, Phenoxyethanol, Pigment.

[0141] The test results show that the composition of Table 8 is comparable to the control composition 2, which does not contain silicone resin or other film-forming polymers, in terms of softness and melting feeling. In terms of makeup holding results, the composition of Table 8 is superior to the control composition 1 and the control composition 2. For other test categories, the composition of Table 8 performs better or at least comparable to the control composition.

[0142] Table 11. Exemplary foundation compositions with SPF (sun protection factor)

[0143]

[0144]

[0145]

[0146] *The trade names of the ingredients of this formulation are the same as those in the previous examples, except for the ingredients listed under A**.

[0147] To prepare the composition of Table 11, all compounds of Phase A were heated in a sealed main container at 85-90°C and mixed at 250-2500 RPM using a light mixer (IKA RW20) until homogeneous. The compounds of Phase B were added to the main container and mixed at 80-85°C. Mixing was continued until all compounds were thoroughly dispersed. At 80-83°C, the compounds of Phase C were added to the main container. Mixing was continued under high shear until a homogeneous composition was obtained. The batch materials were added dropwise at 30-25°C. The final composition can be poured into suitable containers at 30-25°C. Unlike the compositions of Tables 1-8, the compositions of Table 11 use a polyglycerol emulsifier instead of a silicone emulsifier.

[0148] Although the above relates to a specific preferred embodiment, it should be understood that the present invention is not limited thereto. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that various modifications may be made to the disclosed embodiments, and these modifications are intended to fall within the scope of the present invention.
