Description

Technical Field

[0001] This invention relates to electronic devices, and more particularly to portable electronic devices with speakers. Background Technology

[0002] In today's market, portable electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, are increasingly pursuing slimness and high screen-to-body ratios. Therefore, side-firing speakers have become a primary acoustic design solution for these devices. This side-firing acoustic design effectively utilizes the edge space of the device by placing the speaker's sound outlet on the side, maximizing the display screen area and enabling extremely narrow bezel designs. However, while achieving a slim and aesthetically pleasing design, this approach also presents some technical challenges.

[0003] High-frequency attenuation issue: In side-exit designs, the front of the speaker is typically blocked by the display screen of the electronic device. The audio generated by the speaker is transmitted to the side sound outlet through a lateral acoustic channel parallel to the display screen. This design has poor high-frequency response and significant attenuation in the high-frequency range, resulting in insufficient extension of high-frequency sounds. This affects the user's audio quality experience when using the device.

[0004] Sound channel obstruction issue: When using the device, users often inadvertently block the side sound outlets, leading to a decrease in acoustic performance. This is especially true when the user holds the device, as their fingers can easily block the sound outlets, severely affecting sound propagation.

[0005] Therefore, a new side-exit sound design is needed to improve acoustic performance and alleviate the limitations of existing designs. Summary of the Invention

[0031] Embodiments of the present invention are described in detail below. Examples of these embodiments are shown in the accompanying drawings, where the same or similar reference numerals denote the same or similar elements or elements having the same or similar functions. The embodiments described below with reference to the accompanying drawings are exemplary and are only used to explain the present invention, and should not be construed as limiting the present invention.

[0032] Unless otherwise defined, the technical or scientific terms used herein should have the ordinary meaning understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which this invention pertains. In the description of this invention, it should be understood that the terms “center,” “longitudinal,” “lateral,” “upper,” “lower,” “front,” “rear,” “left,” “right,” “vertical,” “horizontal,” “top,” “bottom,” “inner,” and “outer,” etc., indicating orientations or positional relationships based on the orientations or positional relationships shown in the accompanying drawings, are used only for the convenience of describing the invention and for simplifying the description, and do not indicate or imply that the device or element referred to must have a specific orientation, or be constructed and operated in a specific orientation, and therefore should not be construed as a limitation of the invention. Furthermore, the terms “first” and “second” are used for descriptive purposes only and should not be construed as indicating or implying relative importance.

[0033] This invention provides an electronic device, including an electronic device housing and at least one speaker disposed within the electronic device housing. The speaker includes a magnetic circuit assembly and a resonating assembly. A first magnetic conductor of the magnetic circuit assembly is directly and fixedly connected to a housing plate portion of the electronic device housing. According to one or more embodiments of the invention, the first magnetic conductor is fixedly connected to the housing plate portion of the electronic device housing by riveting or bonding. According to one or more embodiments of the invention, the first magnetic conductor is a magnetic yoke.

[0034] In such an electronic device, the housing plate, which is "directly fixedly connected" to the first magnetic conductor (yoke), serves as the sound-generating component. Together with the speaker diaphragm, it enhances the acoustic performance of the electronic device.

[0035] According to one or more embodiments of the present invention, the speaker's sound outlet is arranged on the side of the speaker housing, and the sound generated by the speaker is emitted through the side sound outlet. This side-emitting design, due to its long and narrow lateral acoustic channel or path, severely affects the high-frequency response of the sound emitted by the speaker through the side sound outlet. However, in the present invention, since the housing plate acting as the sound-emitting component is not obstructed, the high-frequency response of the electronic device is significantly improved. Furthermore, even if the user unintentionally obstructs the side sound outlet while holding the electronic device, the acoustic performance of the electronic device is not significantly affected.

[0036] According to one or more embodiments of the present invention, a plurality of first positioning portions are formed on the housing plate portion, the first positioning portions being configured to position the first magnetic conductor relative to the housing plate portion. According to one or more embodiments of the present invention, a plurality of second positioning portions are formed on the housing plate portion, and the speaker housing correspondingly has a plurality of housing positioning portions, the housing positioning portions of the speaker housing being configured to cooperate with the second positioning portions of the housing plate portion for positioning the speaker housing relative to the housing plate portion.

[0037] In this electronic device, the magnetic circuit assembly is accurately positioned relative to the housing plate by the cooperation between the first positioning part of the housing plate and the first magnetic conductor (yoke), and the speaker housing and the resonating assembly (including the voice coil) connected to the speaker housing are accurately positioned relative to the housing plate by the cooperation between the housing positioning part of the speaker housing and the second positioning part of the housing plate. Therefore, by simply installing the magnetic circuit assembly and the speaker housing appropriately to the housing plate, the voice coil of the resonating assembly can be accurately positioned relative to the magnetic circuit assembly, simplifying the installation process.

[0038] Figure 1 A perspective view of an electronic device 100 according to one or more embodiments of the present invention is shown. Figure 2 An exploded view of an electronic device 100 according to one or more embodiments of the present invention is shown. The electronic device 100 includes a housing 102 and a speaker 140 disposed within the housing 102. The housing 102 includes an upper housing portion 110 and a lower housing portion 120. The upper housing portion 110 has an upper housing plate portion 112 and an upper sidewall portion 114 extending from the upper housing plate portion 112. The upper housing portion 110 also includes a sound outlet 116 formed on its upper sidewall portion 114. The lower housing portion 120 has a lower housing plate portion 122 and a lower sidewall portion 124 extending from the lower housing plate portion 122. The upper housing portion 110 and the lower housing portion 120 cooperate together to form a housing 102 defining an internal accommodating space. The speaker 140 is disposed within the internal accommodating space defined by the housing 102. The speaker 140 includes a magnetic circuit assembly 150, a resonant assembly 170, and a speaker housing 180. The magnetic circuit assembly 150 includes a magnet 152, a top plate 154, and a yoke 160. The vibration assembly 170 includes a diaphragm 172 and a voice coil 174 connected to the diaphragm 172. The voice coil 174 is also connected to a lead wire 176, through which audio signals are transmitted to the voice coil 174.

[0039] Figures 1-2The illustrated electronic device 100 is schematic and includes only one speaker 140. In one or more embodiments of the invention, the electronic device 100 can be any suitable portable electronic device, such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. In one or more other embodiments of the invention, the electronic device 100 can be any suitable electronic device. These electronic devices or portable electronic devices may include multiple speakers, such as two, three, four, or more speakers. Accordingly, the electronic device 100 also includes multiple rows of sound holes 116 or multiple arrays of sound holes corresponding to the multiple speakers. In addition to speakers, these electronic devices may also include other electronic components. For example, in one or more embodiments, a display screen is provided on the front side (upper housing plate 112) of the electronic device. In one or more embodiments, the electronic device also includes electronic components such as a processor (e.g., CPU, MCU, etc.), storage devices, and batteries.

[0040] Figure 3A yes Figure 1 A perspective view of the electronic device 100 shown, along its length... Figure 1 The 3A-3A line is cut to show the internal structure of the electronic device 100. Figure 3B yes Figure 3A A magnified view of the dashed area 3B in the image. Figure 4A It is along Figure 1 The sectional view obtained by cutting along line 3A-3A. Figure 4B yes Figure 4A A magnified view of the dashed area 4B.

[0041] As shown in the figure, the magnetic circuit assembly includes a magnet 152, a top plate 154, and a yoke 160. The magnetic circuit assembly 150 further defines a magnetic gap 156 between the yoke 160 and the top plate 154. The yoke 160 includes a bottom 162 and sidewalls 164. The bottom 162 and sidewalls 164 of the yoke 160 form a receiving space. The magnet 152 and the top plate 154 are arranged in this receiving space. The top plate 154 and the bottom 162 of the yoke 160 are configured to clamp the magnet 152 therebetween. The structure and shape of the top plate 154 and the yoke 160 are configured to guide and concentrate the magnetic flux of the magnet 152 through the magnetic gap 156 between the top plate 154 and the sidewalls 164 of the yoke 160. The resonant assembly 170 includes a diaphragm 172 and a voice coil 174. The radially outer end of the diaphragm 172 is connected to a speaker housing 180. The upper end of the voice coil 174 is connected to the diaphragm 172, and the coil portion of the voice coil 174 is suspended in the magnetic gap 156. The lead 176 of the voice coil 174 is electrically connected to the coil portion of the voice coil 174 for transmitting audio electrical signals to the coil portion of the voice coil 174. When the audio electrical signal flows through the coil portion of the voice coil 174, the coil portion of the voice coil 174 in the magnetic gap 156 vibrates back and forth along the axis of the speaker 140 under the action of electromagnetic force, thereby driving the diaphragm 172 to vibrate and produce sound. The specific structure of the speaker 140 shown in the figure is schematic. In one or more embodiments of the invention, the speaker of the electronic device 100 can be any suitable structure. For example, the magnetic circuit assembly of the speaker can have any suitable structure, and the resonant assembly of the speaker can have any suitable structure.

[0042] The electronic device 100 employs a side-emitting acoustic design, meaning that the sound outlet 116 of the electronic device 100 is not located on the upper housing plate 112 of the upper housing portion 110, which faces the diaphragm 172 of the speaker 140 or its vibration assembly 170, but rather on the upper side wall 114 of the upper housing portion 110. When the electronic device 100 is a smartphone, tablet computer, or laptop computer that includes a display screen, such as an LCD screen, at least a portion of the upper housing plate 112 of the upper housing portion 110 can be the display screen. This side-emitting acoustic design, as shown, effectively utilizes the side space of the electronic device by placing the speaker's sound outlet on the side of the electronic device (there is no sound outlet on the front of the electronic device), maximizing the display screen area and enabling an extremely narrow bezel design.

[0043] However, the side-emitting sound design of the electronic device 100 also brings some problems. For example... Figure 4AAs shown, because the front of the speaker 140 is obstructed by the upper housing plate 112 (e.g., display screen) of the upper housing portion 110 of the electronic device 100, the audio generated by the speaker 140 is transmitted to the side sound outlet 116 through a lateral acoustic channel or path (indicated by dashed arrow 4A) parallel to the display screen of the electronic device. This lateral acoustic channel or path is relatively long. Due to the requirements for thinness and lightness of electronic devices, this lateral acoustic channel or path is usually narrow. This long and narrow lateral acoustic channel or path severely affects the high-frequency response of the sound emitted by the speaker of the electronic device 100 through the side sound outlet 116, that is, significant attenuation in the high-frequency region, resulting in insufficient extension of high-frequency sound. In addition, when the user holds the electronic device for use, the side sound outlet 116 is often inadvertently blocked. This further leads to a decrease in the acoustic performance of the sound emitted by the speaker of the electronic device 100 through the side sound outlet 116.

[0044] In the electronic device 100, the magnetic yoke 160 is directly and fixedly connected to the lower housing plate 122 of the lower housing portion 120 of the electronic device 100. In one or more embodiments, the magnetic yoke 160 is directly and fixedly connected to the lower housing plate 122 of the lower housing portion 120 by riveting or bonding. Here, "directly and fixedly connected" means that there are no other intermediate components between the magnetic yoke 160 and the lower housing plate 122 of the lower housing portion 120, and "fixedly connected" means that the magnetic yoke 160 and the connected lower housing plate 122 are fixed together by connection. For example, when the speaker 140 is operating, the magnetic yoke 160 can vibrate together with the connected lower housing plate 122 without much or no relative movement. In one or more embodiments, the lower housing plate 122 connected to the magnetic yoke 160 is plate-shaped or flat.

[0045] When the loudspeaker 140 is operating, the coil portion of the voice coil 174 located in the magnetic gap 156 vibrates back and forth along the axis of the loudspeaker 140 under the action of electromagnetic force, thereby driving the diaphragm 172 to vibrate and produce sound. At the same time, the reaction force of this electromagnetic force also acts on the magnetic circuit assembly 150 of the loudspeaker 140, so that when the loudspeaker 140 is operating, its magnetic circuit assembly 150 (including the yoke 160) also vibrates accordingly.

[0046] The "direct fixed connection" between the yoke 160 and the lower housing plate 122 of the lower housing portion 120 ensures that when the speaker 140 is operating, the yoke 160 can effectively drive the lower housing plate 122 of the lower housing portion 120 to vibrate together, thereby emitting sound. Therefore, through the "direct fixed connection" between the yoke 160 and the lower housing plate 122 of the lower housing portion 120, the lower housing plate 122 of the electronic device 100 also functions as a sound-emitting component. Since the lower housing plate 122, which functions as a sound-emitting component, is not obstructed, the high-frequency response of the electronic device 100 is significantly improved. Furthermore, even if the user unintentionally obstructs the side-exit sound hole 116 while holding the electronic device, the acoustic performance of the electronic device 100 is not significantly affected.

[0047] In the embodiment shown, the electronic device 100 employs a side-emitting design. However, the invention is not limited to this; in one or more other embodiments according to the invention, the electronic device 100 may also employ a front-emitting design, where the sound outlet is located in front of the speaker's resonating assembly. In such an electronic device 100, the lower housing plate 122, which is "directly fixedly connected" to the yoke, also functions as a sound-generating component of the electronic device 100, thus enhancing the acoustic performance of the electronic device together with the front-emitting speaker design.

[0048] In the embodiment shown in the figure, the magnetic yoke 160 of the electronic device 100 is "directly fixedly connected" to the lower housing plate 122, thereby enabling the lower housing plate 122 to act as a sound-generating component to improve the acoustic performance of the electronic device. The invention is not limited thereto; in one or more embodiments according to the invention, the "directly fixedly connected" component to the lower housing plate 122 may not be limited to the magnetic yoke, but may also be other magnetically conductive components of the magnetic circuit assembly.

[0049] The lower housing plate 122 of the lower housing portion 120 also has first positioning portions 128a and 128b for positioning the yoke 160 in a suitable position. In the embodiment shown, the yoke 160 of the speaker 140 is generally rectangular, and the lower housing plate 122 has four first positioning portions 128a and 128b. Two first positioning portions 128a respectively engage with two long sides of the yoke 160, and two first positioning portions 128b respectively engage with two short sides of the yoke 160. The four first positioning portions 128a and 128b can accurately position the yoke 160, and thus the magnetic circuit assembly 150, relative to the lower housing plate 122. In one or more embodiments of the invention, the lower housing plate 122 may include other numbers of first positioning portions. For example, more than one first positioning portion may be included on one or more sides of the yoke 160. In one or more embodiments of the invention, the first positioning portions may be distributed only on two or three sides of the yoke 160.

[0050] In one or more embodiments of the invention, the magnetic yoke 160 may be a shape other than rectangular, and / or the lower housing plate 122 may have any suitable number of first positioning portions, as long as these first positioning portions are capable of positioning the magnetic yoke 160 relative to the lower housing plate 122. In one or more embodiments of the invention, the first positioning portions 128a, 128b may be integrally formed with the lower housing plate 122. In one or more embodiments of the invention, the first positioning portions 128a, 128b may be connected to the lower housing plate 122 in any suitable manner.

[0051] The loudspeaker housing 180 includes a top wall 182 and a side wall 184 extending from the top wall 182. The loudspeaker housing 180 also includes an opening 186 formed in the top wall 182. A resonant assembly 170 is connected to the opening 186 in the top wall 182 of the loudspeaker housing 180. In one or more embodiments, the radially outer end of the diaphragm 172 of the resonant assembly 170 is connected to a corresponding connection structure at the opening 186 in the top wall 182, thereby enabling the resonant assembly 170 (including the diaphragm 172 and the voice coil 174) to be accurately positioned relative to the loudspeaker housing 180.

[0052] Figure 5A It is along Figure 1 The sectional view obtained by cutting along line 5A-5A. Figure 5B yes Figure 5A A partially enlarged view of the dashed area 5B. As shown, the lower housing plate 122 of the lower housing portion 120 also has a plurality of second positioning portions 132. Correspondingly, the speaker housing 180 has a plurality of housing positioning portions 188. The housing positioning portions 188 of the speaker housing 180 cooperate with the second positioning portions 132 of the lower housing plate 122 of the lower housing portion 120 to position the speaker housing 180 relative to the lower housing plate 122 in a suitable position.

[0053] In the embodiment shown, the second positioning portion 132 of the lower housing plate 122 has a recess, while the housing positioning portion 188 of the speaker housing 180 is in the form of a support column. The support column-shaped housing positioning portion 188 fits into the recess of the second positioning portion 132 to accurately position the speaker housing 180 relative to the lower housing plate 122. In one or more embodiments of the invention, both the recess of the second positioning portion 132 and the support column of the housing positioning portion 188 are tapered. This tapering facilitates the automatic alignment of the speaker housing 180 relative to the lower housing plate 122 when the speaker housing 180 is mounted to the lower housing plate 122. In one or more other embodiments of the invention, the second positioning portion 132 of the lower housing plate 122 and the housing positioning portion 188 of the speaker housing 180 may take other forms, as long as they enable accurate positioning of the speaker housing 180 relative to the lower housing plate 122. In one or more other embodiments of the invention, the second positioning portion 132 of the lower housing plate 122 and the housing positioning portion 188 of the speaker housing 180 may be omitted.

[0054] In the embodiment shown in the figure, the magnetic yoke 160 and the magnetic circuit assembly 150 are accurately positioned relative to the lower housing plate 122 by the cooperation between the first positioning portions 128a and 128b of the lower housing plate 122 and the magnetic yoke 160. The speaker housing 180 and the resonant assembly 170 (including the voice coil 174) connected to the speaker housing 180 are accurately positioned relative to the lower housing plate 122 by the cooperation between the housing positioning portion 188 of the speaker housing 180 and the second positioning portion 132 of the lower housing plate 122. Therefore, by properly installing the magnetic circuit assembly 150 and the speaker housing 180 onto the lower housing plate 122, the voice coil 174 of the resonant assembly 170 can be accurately positioned relative to the magnetic circuit assembly 150, simplifying the installation process.

[0055] like Figure 2 As shown, the lower housing plate 122 includes four second positioning portions 132 arranged around the yoke 160 of the speaker 140. The speaker housing 180 also correspondingly includes four housing positioning portions 188. In one or more embodiments of the invention, the second positioning portions 132 of the lower housing plate 122 and the housing positioning portions 188 of the speaker housing 180 may have other numbers, such as two, three, or five.

[0056] In the embodiment shown, the lower housing plate 122 also has a mating portion 136. The mating portion 136 of the lower housing plate 122 is configured to mate with a corresponding mating structure 184a formed on the lower end of the housing sidewall 184 of the speaker housing 180. This mating helps to isolate and seal the interior of the speaker housing 180 from the external space. At the same time, this mating also helps to position the speaker housing 180 relative to the lower housing plate 122.

[0057] Figure 6 Frequency response curves of electronic devices according to embodiments and comparative embodiments of the present invention are shown, wherein the dashed lines represent... Figures 1-5B The frequency response curves of the electronic device in the illustrated embodiment are shown, while the solid line represents the frequency response curve of the electronic device in the comparative embodiment. The structure of the electronic device in this comparative embodiment is similar to... Figure 1-5B The electronic devices of the illustrated embodiments are essentially the same, the only difference being that the speaker housing of the comparative embodiment includes a bottom wall, and the magnetic yoke is mounted inside the speaker housing, rather than being directly fixed to the electronic device housing (lower housing plate). Figure 6 As shown, the electronic device according to an embodiment of the present invention exhibits a significant improvement in high-frequency response.
