[0014] Generally, pickup trucks have an upward-opening truck bed behind the passenger compartment. Most pickups have a frame-like body structure. Numerous components, such as the transmission, driveshaft, exhaust pipe, and fuel tank, are located under the floor of the pickup. Therefore, when installing plug-in hybrid equipment on a pickup, sometimes it's impossible to ensure sufficient space for the battery and / or high-voltage electrical units under the floor without raising it. However, users demand a passenger compartment and cargo bed capable of carrying large amounts of cargo in pickup trucks. Raising the floor to accommodate the battery and high-voltage electrical units reduces the volume of the passenger compartment and cargo bed, thus failing to meet user requirements.

[0015] This embodiment is a pickup-type PHEV that can ensure the mounting space for the battery and high-voltage electrical unit in a pickup truck-type PHEV.

[0016] The following is for reference Figures 1-5 This document details one embodiment of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. In the following description, "plug-in hybrid electric vehicle" will be referred to as "PHEV". In the diagrams shown, "FR" indicates the front of the vehicle, "RR" indicates the rear of the vehicle, "UP" indicates the top of the vehicle, "DW" indicates the bottom of the vehicle, "LF" indicates the left side of the vehicle, and "RF" indicates the right side of the vehicle.

[0017] like Figure 1As shown, the PHEV 10 has three parts: a cockpit section 11, an engine compartment section 12 located in the front of the vehicle FR in front of the cockpit section 11, and a luggage section 13 located in the rear of the vehicle RR behind the cockpit section 11. A passenger compartment 14 for occupants is provided in the cockpit section 11. The engine compartment section 12 has an engine compartment 17 in which an engine 20 is longitudinally arranged. In the PHEV 10 of the present embodiment, an engine 20 with a V-type cylinder arrangement is mounted. The luggage section 13 has a cargo box 18 that opens upward in the vehicle direction UP. In Figures 1-4 In the case of, the part of the PHEV 10 that is further to the rear RR of the vehicle compared to the dotted line L1 and further to the front FR of the vehicle compared to the dotted line L2 is the cockpit section 11. In addition, the part of the PHEV 10 that is further to the front FR of the vehicle compared to the dotted line L1 is the engine compartment section 12. And, the part of the PHEV 10 that is further to the rear RR of the vehicle compared to the dotted line L2 is the luggage section 13.

[0018] In Figure 2 shows the seat configuration of the PHEV 10. In the passenger compartment 14 of the PHEV 10, a front row seat 15 and a rear row seat 16 located further to the rear RR of the vehicle compared to the front row seat 15 are provided. In addition, in Figure 2 the part P0 indicated by the shaded line in represents the part of the passenger compartment 14 that is further to the front FR of the vehicle compared to the rear row seat 16. This part P0 is a part where it is assumed that the feet of the occupants are placed on the floor surface of the passenger compartment 14.

[0019] <Structure of the drive system of the PHEV>

[0020] Next, referring to Figure 3 , the structure of the drive system of the PHEV 10 will be described. The drive system of the PHEV 10 includes an engine 20, a transmission 21, a motor 22, and a transfer case 23. In addition, the drive system of the PHEV 10 includes drive shafts 24 and 25 for the front wheels and the rear wheels. The two drive shafts 24 and 25 are connected to the engine 20 via the transfer case 23, the motor 22, and the transmission 21. In addition, the drive shaft 24 for the front wheels is connected to the left and right front wheels 27 via a differential 26, and the drive shaft 25 for the rear wheels is connected to the left and right rear wheels 29 via a differential 28.

[0021] <Structure of the underfloor structure of the PHEV>

[0022] Next, referring to Figure 3 , the structure of the underfloor structure of the PHEV 10 will be described. The underfloor of the PHEV 10 refers to the part that is further below the vehicle DW compared to the floor panels of the passenger compartment 14 and the cargo box 18.

[0023] A frame 30 is installed under the floor of the PHEV10's passenger compartment 14 and cargo box 18. In this embodiment, the PHEV10's frame 30 is a ladder-shaped frame with left and right side beams 31 and multiple crossbeams 32 connecting the two side beams 31. The left and right side beams 31 are respectively arranged to extend in the vehicle's longitudinal direction through a portion of the passenger compartment 11 that is further below the passenger compartment 14 in the lower DW direction. Figure 3 As shown, the drive shaft 25 for the rear wheels passes through the portion of the cabin section 11 that is further down the vehicle than the passenger compartment 14 in the DW direction and extends in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.

[0024] Additionally, an exhaust pipe 33 is located under the floor of the PHEV10, directing the exhaust of the engine 20 to the rear (RR) of the vehicle. The exhaust pipe 33 extends in the longitudinal direction through a portion of the cabin 11 further below the passenger compartment 14 than the passenger compartment 14. A muffler 34 is positioned along the exhaust pipe 33. The muffler 34 is located in the portion of the cabin 11 further below the passenger compartment 14 than the passenger compartment 14. Furthermore, a fuel tank 35 for storing fuel from the engine 20 is located under the floor of the PHEV10. A driveshaft 25 for the rear wheels is positioned between the exhaust pipe 33 and the fuel tank 35 in the vehicle width direction.

[0025] <Battery and High-Voltage Electrical Unit Configuration>

[0026] Next, refer to Figure 4 as well as Figure 5 This explains the configuration of the PHEV10's battery and high-voltage electrical unit. Figure 4 The configuration of the battery and high-voltage electrical unit in the PHEV10 is shown as viewed from above the vehicle (UP). Figure 5 Show along Figures 1-4 The schematic cross-sectional structure of the PHEV10 shown in line 5-5 is shown.

[0027] The PHEV10 has two batteries: a first battery 40 and a second battery 41. Each battery has multiple units and a housing to house them. The first battery 40 is located in the passenger compartment 11, below the rear seats 16 (DW), and positioned higher up in the vehicle compared to the rear driveshaft 25, exhaust pipe 33, fuel tank 35, and side beam 31. The second battery 41 is located in the luggage compartment 13, also positioned higher up in the vehicle compared to the rear driveshaft 25, exhaust pipe 33, fuel tank 35, and side beam 31.

[0028] Furthermore, the PHEV10 includes a high-voltage electrical unit 42 electrically connected to the first battery 40 and the second battery 41. The high-voltage electrical unit 42 is a unit directly electrically connected to the batteries and converts the power input and output relative to the batteries. The high-voltage electrical unit 42 includes a power conversion circuit and a housing that houses the circuit. Examples of high-voltage electrical units 42 include a power control unit that performs power control of the motor 22, and an on-board charging unit that converts power supplied from outside the vehicle and supplies it to the first battery 40 and the second battery 41. The high-voltage electrical unit 42 may also be configured to function as both a power control unit and an on-board charging unit.

[0029] The high-voltage electrical unit 42 is connected to the first battery 40 in a grounded configuration. Specifically, as follows... Figure 1 As shown, the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is positioned in the cabin section 11, further rearward (RR) than the rear seat 16, in contact with the surface of the first battery 40 above the vehicle (UP). In this configuration, the first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 are overlapped in both the longitudinal and transverse directions. Furthermore, the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is mechanically connected to the first battery 40 via bolts or other fasteners. Figure 1 As shown, the first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 are electrically connected via bus 43. In the PHEV10 of this embodiment, the first battery 40 corresponds to the battery in which the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is disposed adjacent to ground.

[0030] <The Role and Effects of the Implementation Method>

[0031] This describes the function and effects of this implementation method.

[0032] In addition to the frame 30, the PHEV10 also houses components such as the drive shaft 25, exhaust pipe 33, and fuel tank 35 under its floor. Therefore, it is difficult to adequately accommodate the battery and high-voltage electrical unit 42 under the PHEV10 floor. Therefore, in this embodiment of the PHEV10, the first battery 40, the second battery 41, and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 are located in the passenger compartment 11 and luggage compartment 13, further upwards (UP) than the drive shaft 25, exhaust pipe 33, fuel tank 35, and side beams 31 of the frame 30.

[0033] However, in this case, the amount of space required to accommodate the first battery 40, the second battery 41, and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 would be reduced in the cabin space and the cargo box 18. In contrast, in the PHEV 10 of this embodiment, the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is disposed adjacent to the first battery 40 within the cabin 14 of the passenger compartment 11. In this PHEV 10 of this embodiment, the first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 are disposed in a centralized location. Therefore, a more spacious cabin space can be ensured compared to the case where the high-voltage electrical unit 42 and the first battery 40 are disposed in a separate location within the cabin 14.

[0034] The PHEV10 according to the above embodiment can achieve the following effects.

[0035] (1) In the PHEV10 of this embodiment, the first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 are arranged adjacent to each other in the upper part of the vehicle UP of the cabin section 11 compared to the drive shaft 25, exhaust pipe 33, fuel tank 35 and side beam 31. Therefore, the PHEV10 of this embodiment has the effect of easily ensuring the mounting space of the first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42.

[0036] (2) When the first battery 40 and other components are installed in the portion of the cabin 11 that is higher up in the vehicle than components such as the side beam 31, the floor of this portion of the cabin 14 will be one level higher than the floor of other portions of the cabin 14. When the floor of the portion P0 in the cabin 14 that is further forward in the vehicle than the rear seats 16 is higher, there is a possibility that occupant comfort may be compromised. Regarding this point, in the PHEV 10 of this embodiment, the first battery 40, the second battery 41, and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 are located in a portion other than the portion further forward in the vehicle than the rear seats 16. Therefore, the associated deterioration in comfort due to the installation of the first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is suppressed.

[0037] (3) When a single battery with the combined capacity of the first battery 40 and the second battery 41 is placed in the cabin section 11, the cabin space is significantly reduced. Similarly, when a single battery with the combined capacity of the first battery 40 and the second battery 41 is placed in the luggage section 13, the loading space of the cargo box 18 is significantly reduced. In contrast, in the PHEV 10 of this embodiment, the battery is divided into a first battery 40 placed in the cabin section 11 and a second battery 41 placed in the luggage section 13. Therefore, compared to the case of a single battery, the battery arrangement makes it easier to ensure both cabin space and cargo box 18 loading space.

[0038] (4) In the PHEV10 of this embodiment, a high-voltage electrical unit 42 is disposed adjacent to the first battery 40 disposed in the cabin section 11. Vehicle electrical equipment electrically connected to the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is often disposed in both the cabin section 11 and the engine compartment section 12. Therefore, compared to the case where the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is disposed adjacent to the second battery 41 disposed in the luggage compartment 13, the length of the wiring connecting the high-voltage electrical unit 42 and the vehicle electrical equipment can sometimes be shortened. For example, if the high-voltage electrical unit 42 functions as a power control unit for controlling the power supply to the motor 22, the power line to the motor 22 can be shortened.

[0039] (5) The first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 are mechanically connected to each other by bolts or the like. Even if the position of the first battery 40 moves due to an external force such as a collision, the possibility of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 moving as a unit with the first battery 40 increases. Therefore, even in the event of a collision, the electrical connection between the first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is difficult to sever. In addition, damage to the wiring connecting the first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 during a collision can be suppressed.

[0040] (6) The first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 are electrically connected via bus 43. The structure for electrically connecting the first battery 40 and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is not exposed to the outside, so it has higher tolerance to leakage current compared to the case of wiring connection such as wire harness.

[0041] (7) The high-voltage electrical unit 42 is positioned above the first battery 40 on the vehicle UP. Therefore, when the PHEV10 is submerged in water, the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is unlikely to be exposed to water. In addition, when driving on uneven roads, the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is unlikely to come into contact with the road surface.

[0042] (Other embodiments)

[0043] The above embodiments can be implemented with the modifications described below. The above embodiments and the following modifications can be combined with each other to implement them to the extent that they are not technically contradictory.

[0044] <Regarding the configuration of high-voltage electrical units>

[0045] The high-voltage electrical unit 42 can also be configured in a different location than described above, provided that it is connected adjacent to either the first battery 40 or the second battery 41.

[0046] Figures 6-8 The parts P1 to P8 shown represent examples of the locations where the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is installed. Figure 7 Cross-sectional view and along Figure 6The 7-7 line corresponds to the cross-section of the PHEV10. Additionally, Figure 8 Cross-sectional view and along Figure 6 The PHEV10 with line 8-8 corresponds to the cross-section.

[0047] Part P1, similarly to the embodiment described above, indicates the location of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 when it is positioned above the first battery 40 (UP) in the vehicle. Part P2 indicates the location of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 when it is positioned below the first battery 40 (DW) in the vehicle. Part P3 indicates the location of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 when it is positioned above the second battery 41 (UP) in the vehicle. Part P4 indicates the location of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 when it is positioned below the second battery 41 (DW) in the vehicle. Part P5 indicates the location of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 when it is positioned to the right (RF) of the first battery 40 in the vehicle. Part P6 indicates the location of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 when it is positioned to the left (LF) of the first battery 40 in the vehicle. Part P7 indicates the location of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 when it is positioned to the right (RF) of the second battery 41 in the vehicle. Part P8 indicates the location of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 when it is positioned to the left (LF) of the second battery 41 in the vehicle.

[0048] Furthermore, the high-voltage electrical unit 42 can be configured at any location other than P1 to P8, as long as it is adjacent to any of the first battery 40 or the second battery 41. In any case, by configuring the high-voltage electrical unit 42 adjacent to any of the first battery 40 or the second battery 41, the space required for the installation of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 can be reduced compared to configuring the high-voltage electrical unit 42 at a location away from both the first battery 40 and the second battery 41.

[0049] The high-voltage electrical unit 42 is preferably configured to satisfy one or two of the following conditions (X) to (Z). Condition (X) is that the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is configured in an overlapping manner with respect to the adjacent battery in the vehicle longitudinal direction. Condition (Y) is that the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is configured in an overlapping manner with respect to the adjacent battery in the vehicle width direction. Condition (Z) is that the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is configured in an overlapping manner with respect to the adjacent battery in the vehicle height direction. Furthermore, the aforementioned parts (A) to (D) are parts that satisfy conditions (X) and (Y). Parts (E) to (H) are parts that satisfy conditions (X) and (Z).

[0050] <Regarding fuel tank configuration>

[0051] ■The shape and / or position of the fuel tank 35 can also be appropriately changed. In the case where the fuel tank 35 is not located in the part of the vehicle below the first battery 40 (DW), the first battery 40 can be arranged in the part of the cabin section 11 that is higher up in the vehicle than the drive shaft 25 for the rear wheels, the exhaust pipe 33, and the side beam 31.

[0052] ■ In the PHEV10 described above, the exhaust pipe 33 and the fuel tank 35 are arranged such that the driveshaft 25 for the rear wheels is sandwiched in the vehicle width direction. Alternatively, the exhaust pipe 33 and the fuel tank 35 can both be located on the right side (RF) of the vehicle, on the driveshaft 25 for the rear wheels. Conversely, the exhaust pipe 33 and the fuel tank 35 can both be located on the left side (LF) of the vehicle, on the driveshaft 25 for the rear wheels.

[0053] <Regarding battery configuration>

[0054] ■As described above, the configuration of the high-voltage electrical unit 42 can be changed as long as it is adjacent to either the first battery 40 or the second battery 41. When the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is configured adjacent to the first battery 40, the configuration of the second battery 41 in the luggage compartment 13 can be changed arbitrarily. Furthermore, when the high-voltage electrical unit 42 is configured adjacent to the first battery 40, the configuration of the first battery 40 in the cabin compartment 11 can also be changed arbitrarily.

[0055] ■Even when the high-voltage electrical unit 42 and the first battery 40 are arranged adjacent to each other, the arrangement of the first battery 40 in the cabin section 11 can be changed to the extent that the following necessary conditions are met. This necessary condition is that the first battery 40 is arranged in the portion of the cabin section 11 that is further upwards (UP) than the drive shaft 25 for the rear wheels and the side beam 31. If this necessary condition is met, for example, the first battery 40 can also be arranged in the portion (P0) of the cabin section 11 that is further forward (FR) than the rear seats 16.

[0056] ■Even when the high-voltage electrical unit 42 and the second battery 41 are arranged adjacent to each other, the arrangement of the second battery 41 in the luggage compartment 13 can be changed to meet the following necessary conditions. The necessary condition is that the second battery 41 is arranged in the luggage compartment 13 at a position UP above the vehicle compared to the drive shaft 25 for the rear wheels and the side beam 31.

[0057] ■The battery of the PHEV10 in the above embodiment is divided into a first battery 40 disposed in the cabin section 11 and a second battery 41 disposed in the luggage section 13. It is also possible for the PHEV10 to have a structure in which either the cabin section 11 or the luggage section 13 has a single battery.

[0058] <Other>

[0059] ■ It can also be configured such that the battery and the high-voltage electrical unit 42 are not mechanically connected.

[0060] ■ Alternatively, components other than busbar 43, such as wiring harnesses, can be used to electrically connect the battery and high-voltage electrical unit 42.

[0061] ■ An engine with a cylinder arrangement other than V can also be installed on the PHEV10.
