AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In coronary computed tomography angiography images acquired at different time points, it is difficult to establish the correspondence between different segments of the coronary artery, especially with the increased image complexity in dual-energy mode. Existing image registration techniques are unable to effectively solve the alignment problem of small structures such as the coronary artery tree.

Method used

A multi-channel image registration technique is employed. First, coarse alignment is performed, and then fine alignment of coronary artery segments is performed to identify and determine the image differences of each channel. The multi-channel image registration technique is used to identify coronary artery segments in the initially aligned energy spectrum image dataset. Fine alignment is performed by combining weights and similarity measures to generate straightened curved surface reconstruction, thereby improving the accuracy of alignment.

Benefits of technology

This method enables the accurate establishment of spatial correspondences of coronary artery regions within a dataset of energy spectrum images acquired at different time points. This allows for more confident determination of changes in disease status and improves the accuracy and reliability of image registration.

Abstract

The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for image processing of spectral images of a subject. The apparatus comprises an input unit configured to acquire two spectral image data sets of a region of interest, ROI, of the subject acquired at different time points, each spectral image data set comprising two or more spectral images of the ROI in two or more different channels, the ROI comprising coronary arteries. A processing unit is configured to perform a first alignment of the two spectral image data sets by using image registration; identify one or more corresponding coronary artery segments in the aligned spectral image data sets; perform a second alignment of the two spectral image data sets by using multi-channel image registration on the one or more corresponding coronary artery segments, the second alignment being a more refined alignment than the first alignment; and determine an image difference between the more refined aligned spectral image data sets of each channel. An output unit is provided to output the more refined aligned spectral image of the channel having the largest image difference.
