Abstract

An apparatus and method are described for performing microbial sampling operations on a culture medium (T) containing biological particles arranged in shallow containers (100a, 100b). The device includes at least one movable member (15) configured to move non-contactly on a drive surface (12) by means of electromagnetic interaction and equipped with corresponding support members (23a, 23b) to support the shallow containers (100a, 100b), and also includes a controller (50) configured to command the at least one movable member (15) to shift on the drive surface (12) between a first operating region (Z1) and a second operating region (Z2), in which the shallow containers (100a, 100b) are received on the corresponding support members (23a, 23b), and in the second operating region (Z2), the movable member (15) has been held in a use position (PU) by the controller (50), thereby allowing the shallow containers (100a, 100b) to be fluidly connected to a suction unit (19) via a suction port (20) provided in the second operating region (Z2).
