Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a light module comprising a plurality of module components, namely a mounting body, a base which can be connected to the mounting body and which comprises or provides electrical and / or electronic contacts, a light generating device which can be connected to the base and which comprises at least one LED, and an optical system for realizing light guidance of a luminous flux generated by the light source.
[0002] The LED is the light-emitting semiconductor component that is usually arranged on a circuit board, colloquially often referred to as a PCB (Printed Circuit Board). In addition, such an LED module comprises operating devices, e.g. electronic ballasts (EVGs) or drivers, that are arranged on the circuit board together with one or more LEDs. LED modules are often also referred to as lighting modules or “light engines”. An LED module is known, for example, from German patent application DE 10 2012 212 027 A1, which is referred to therein as a lighting module. This describes an LED module with a first circuit board and at least one LED arranged thereon. A cover element at least partially covers this first circuit board. At least one electronic component that is integrated in the cover element is also electrically connected to the first circuit board. The light source is designed in the form of an LED grid or an LED array, i.e. a field comprising several LEDs arranged in a grid.
[0003] Other light modules are known which are fixed by means of a bayonet lock.
[0004] Such a light or LED module is relatively complex in its construction and therefore has a certain height. Overall, this LED module can only be installed by qualified personnel, and its maintenance is relatively time-consuming and therefore costly.
[0005] The prior art is known from WO 2005 / 029 185 A2, WO 2011 / 145 018 A1, DE 10 2007 001 858 A1 relating to a vehicle lamp, and DE 20 2012 005 765 U1 relating to an LED recessed lamp. WO 2004 / 068 909 A1 also discloses an LED lighting device with an LED module.
[0006] Based on this prior art, the object of the invention is to at least partially avoid these disadvantages and in particular to provide a light module which requires little installation space and is easy to install and / or maintain.
[0007] According to the invention, this object is achieved with a light module according to claim 1. The light-generating device is designed as a light card that can be detachably inserted into the base. A special aspect of the light module according to the invention is furthermore the modular and freely combinable structure of the individual module components, i.e. the mounting body for mounting on a luminaire housing, which preferably also assumes the function of the heat sink, the base that can be detachably connected to the mounting body for receiving the light card, the light card that can be inserted into the base, and the optics that can be connected to the mounting body or the base. The light card is also divided into zones, with one zone being designed as a "lighting area" with LEDs or an LED grid arranged on the surface as required. Another area is designed as an "electronics area" that contains the electronics necessary for operating the LEDs, e.g., chips, resistors, ballasts, etc.includes.
[0008] Because the light card can be inserted into the luminaire or its base in a similar way to a credit card, it is particularly easy to handle for the first time, and preferably even without tools.
[0009] The light card therefore comprises connection means for electrical and / or electronic connection to the light module, which in the installed position interact with complementary connection means of the light module, in particular the base.
[0010] These connection means are provided at a front end of the light card in the installed position and the opposite rear end is preferably designed as a handle area which protrudes from the luminaire or the base in the installed position so that the light card can be removed easily, preferably manually.
[0011] It is within the scope of the invention that the individual module components can be exchanged depending on the application, i.e. a different optics and / or a different light card can be used for a different lighting task.
[0012] For example, the light card may also include optical elements such as lenses and / or reflectors, which may be formed as part of the light card by being glued, screwed or clicked in.
[0013] The mounting body is preferably designed as a component that can be connected to another luminaire housing, particularly preferably as a heat sink, in particular made of aluminum. However, the mounting body can also completely or partially form the luminaire housing, e.g., for a downlight.
[0014] In the preferred embodiment, connecting means for implementing power and / or data transmission in the installed position can be provided between the base and the light card, which connecting means comprise, in particular, a terminal. These connecting means establish contact for the flow of power and data in the installed position, i.e., with the light card inserted into the base.
[0015] Between the base and the light card, spacers are preferably provided to maintain clearances and creepage distances to conductive components on the light card in the installed position, in particular metallized plastic parts, i.e. plastic parts provided with at least a metal layer, or metal components, e.g. a reflector according to the embodiment in Fig. 5.
[0016] The light card includes an electronics area with electronic components, also for controlling the operating parameters of the LED(s).
[0017] Thermal coupling means are preferably provided between the base, the light card, and the mounting body, which, in the installed position, ensure thermally optimized contact between the light card and the thermally conductive mounting body. This can be achieved, for example, by connecting means formed between the mounting body and the base, such as a penetration that engages in a correspondingly formed opening in the installed position, or by directly resting on a sheet metal, which provides receptacles, e.g., via punchings, embossings, or holes, in which pins, rivets, screws, and other connecting elements secure the position.
[0018] It is also within the scope of the invention to only partially populate the LEDs of the light card, i.e. to provide more LED positions or sockets for LEDs, of which only some or all are populated as required.
[0019] The light card is designed as an easily replaceable, preferably plate-like element, which has a significantly greater width and depth than thickness and combines the individual components of the light module on it, i.e. the LEDs, preferably arranged in a grid, the operating devices and the circuit board.
[0020] In the preferred embodiment, the light card has a width of 50 - 100 mm, a length of 85 - 160 mm and a thickness of 2 - 5 mm and the light card is made of plastic or metal as well as composite materials thereof.
[0021] In principle, the individual components of the light card can be arranged optionally on the supporting light card. In each case, the light card has a zonal division, with the zones comprising a "lighting area" with the LEDs or an LED grid arranged as required on the surface, which are connected via the circuit board arranged on the light card, and an "electronics area" comprising the electronics necessary for operating the LEDs, e.g. chips, resistors, ballasts, etc. The lighting area preferably comprises approximately 2 / 3 of the surface of the light card and the electronics area approximately 1 / 3. For the invention, it is irrelevant whether it involves several LEDs arranged in a grid or a luminous surface implemented using COB (Chip on Board) technology.
[0022] However, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that the arrangement does not necessarily have to be "cleanly" separated into zones, meaning that the lighting area necessarily only includes the devices necessary for light generation, primarily the LEDs, and the electronics area only the components relevant for control. Rather, it is also entirely within the scope of the invention to arrange electronic components in the lighting area as well, such as a sensor designed as a motion and / or light sensor. This is particularly advantageous if the electronics area is installed in the LED module and is not visible from the outside.
[0023] The light card can be designed to be inserted into the luminaire, preferably into the socket that holds it in the installed position between the mounting body and the optics. This allows even untrained personnel to install and maintain the luminaire. All they have to do is insert the light card into the side slot inside the luminaire and secure it in place. Preferably, the LED light module includes fastening devices, e.g., locking devices, which ensure automatic and correct fixation in the desired position for operation.
[0024] The light module can comprise positioning or position-fixing means with which a precise arrangement, i.e., positioning of the components of the light module in the respective desired position relative to one another, can be easily implemented and fixed. These positioning means preferably comprise complementary positioning means, e.g., between the base and the mounting body. A particularly preferred embodiment of the positioning means comprises a hole pattern provided in the mounting body, into which pins or projections on the underside of the base engage in the installed position.
[0025] Of particular interest to manufacturers is the creation of suitable interfaces between the slot in the LED light module that accommodates the light card and the light card itself, so that only light cards designed for the LED module from a specific manufacturer can be used. This can be achieved, for example, by specially selected sizes or openings in the base for accommodating the light card.
[0026] It is within the scope of the invention that the light area on the light card comprises several circuits, for example two separate circuits for implementing a white-white control or other light mixtures with more than two circuits.
[0027] Embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings, which reveal further advantages and details. [0028] In the following detailed description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof, and in which is shown by way of illustration specific embodiments in which the invention may be practiced. In this regard, directional terminology such as "top", "bottom", "front", "back", "fore", "rear", etc., will refer to the orientation of the described figure(s). Since components of embodiments can be positioned in a number of different orientations, the directional terminology is for purposes of illustration and is in no way limiting. It is to be understood that other embodiments may be utilized and structural or logical changes may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. The following detailed description is not to be taken in a limiting sense.Throughout this description, the terms "connected," "attached," and "integrated" are used to describe both direct and indirect connections, direct or indirect connections, and direct or indirect integration. In the figures, identical or similar elements are designated by identical reference symbols where appropriate.
[0029] Fig. 1 shows an enlarged perspective view of the basic components of the LED module, without optics and without a light card. Accordingly, the LED module comprises a mounting body 2 designed as a heat sink, which in this case has a circular surface and, in the installed position, comprises cooling fins 2A projecting downwards. A recess 2B is formed on the circular surface, which includes lateral edges 2C, 2D extending parallel to one another. A preferably circular elevation 2E is formed in the center for thermally connecting the light card to the heat sink in the installed position, thereby establishing direct mechanical contact with the light card in the installed position.A correspondingly shaped base 4 can be inserted into the recess 2B formed by the parallel edges 2C, 2D on the top side of the mounting body 2. The height of the base 4 corresponds to the recess 2B in the mounting body, and thus, in the installed position, is flush with the surface of the mounting body 2. For this purpose, the essentially square lower base plate 4A has a circular bottom opening corresponding to the elevation 2E, so that the elevation 2E with the electrical and / or electronic contacts is flush with the surface of the base plate 4A in the installed position. It is understood that the elevation 2E can also have a different geometric shape.
[0030] At the front end of the base 4 in the installed position, the base comprises two integrally formed spring tabs 4C, 4D, which restrict access to the insertion area for the light card to retaining strips 4E, 4F extending laterally parallel to one another in the longitudinal direction of the base 4. At the rear end, the base 4 comprises a pocket-shaped end stop 4G, which can also include the luminaire-side electrical contacts for connecting the light card in the installed position, in particular for supplying the light card with power. The light card 6 described below (see Fig. 2) can be inserted from the front end like a plug-in card.
[0031] The Fig. Figure 2 shows a first embodiment of the light card 6 in a top view. In the present embodiment, the light card 6 has a width of 95 mm and a length of 152 mm. At the front end, the light card 6 comprises a total of five connections 6A - 6E, from which conductor tracks run on the top side of the light card 6 around the front light area 6F of the light card to a rear electronics area 6G of the light card. In the present embodiment, the light area 6F and the electronics area 6G are approximately the same size and are divided by recesses 6H and 6I formed in the middle of the long sides of the light cards, into which the tabs 4C, 4D of the base 4 engage in the installed position, thus ensuring a firm fit between the light card 6 and the connections 6A to 6E. The components required for operating the light card and the LED grid 6J arranged in the light area are arranged in the electronics area 6G.
[0032] Fig. 3 shows a perspective view to illustrate the system functions or the module function, as the interaction of the module components, specifically the light map 6 according to Fig. 2 when inserted into the base 4 placed on the mounting body 2 with the front end first.
[0033] In the Fig. 4, which shows a perspective view of the light card 6 in the installed position, the light card is fully inserted into the longitudinally parallel retaining strips 4E, 4F of the base 4 and rests at the rear end with the connections 6A - 6E in the pocket-like end stop 4G such that the connections 6A - 6E are completely covered by the end stop 4G and the LED grid 6J is located directly above the elevation 2E of the mounting body 2. The electronics area 6G is covered by a cover cap 6K which is snapped onto the recesses via locking tabs and which spans and protects the electronics area and the electronic / electrical components therein in a dome-like manner.
[0034] In the Fig. 5, a reflector 8 is mounted on the mounting body 2. At its lower end, which is adapted to the surface of the mounting body 2 in the installed position, the reflector 8A has a connection ring 8A that is adapted to the surface of the mounting body 2. This connection ring 8A covers the upper connection surface of the mounting body 2 in the installed position and from which a reflector surface 8B with a light exit opening extends upwards. The reflector surface 8B is designed as a parabolic body of revolution with a light entry opening formed in the region of the apex and a light exit opening opposite this.
[0035] The Fig. Figure 6 shows an enlarged view of an alternatively designed light card 10 with an LED grid 10A, which is designed more as a point array and comprises only seven LEDs arranged in a ring. The mounting body 2 and the base 4, however, have not been modified. Thus, a different lighting situation or light distribution curve can be realized simply by replacing the light card.
[0036] However, the change in the light distribution curve can also be achieved by using different optics. Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 perspective views of an optic designed as a lens. The optic here comprises a plate- or disc-shaped support 12A with dimensions that approximately correspond to the base 2, thus covering it in the installed position. In the center, the support 12A encompasses the actual dome-shaped, convex lens 12B, which, in the installed position, arches over the light area of the light card 10 and focuses or directs the light according to the geometric design of the lens. This is preferably glued on, but can also be screwed or clicked in.
[0037] The Fig. Figure 9 shows a perspective view of another light card 14, which differs from the previous ones in that it comprises two separate circuits of power LEDs in the LED grid of the lighting area 14A, with these separate circuits each being fed to the electronics area 14B. The different circuits comprise LEDs with different white colors to achieve a light mixture. In addition to the combination of a cool white and a warm white circuit proposed here, several circuits with different colors can also be combined.
[0038] The Fig. 10 and Fig. 11 shows a perspective view of a light card 16 in which no illuminants are arranged in the light area, but rather a sensor 16A, over which a facet cover 16B can be snapped on or attached to the light card 16. The sensor 16A can be designed as a motion or brightness sensor, or as a combined sensor.
[0039] The Fig. 12 shows a further embodiment of a light card 18, in which the light area comprises both an LED grid 18A and also a sensor 18B in the center of the LED grid 18A.
[0040] The Fig. 13 shows an embodiment of a light card 20 with a round, large-area round light area comprising an LED grid 20A and a sensor 20B, arranged in the electronics area of the light card 20.
[0041] The Fig. 14 to 22 show different light maps 22, 24 - 38 with differently designed LED grids in the light areas.
[0042] The light map 22 according to Fig. 14 comprises a large-area LED grid, which is preferably used for high luminous flux packages in spotlights and downlights
[0043] The light map 24 according to Fig. 15 comprises a medium-sized LED grid, which is preferably used for medium luminous flux packages in spotlights and downlights.
[0044] The light map 26 according to Fig. 16 comprises a point-shaped LED grid with 7 LEDs with which a better light control can be achieved and which is therefore preferably used for small luminous flux packages in spotlights and downlights.
[0045] The Fig. Figure 17 shows a top view of a light card 28 in which the LED light source is implemented using chip-on-board (COB) technology, i.e., a direct assembly of unpackaged semiconductor chips on circuit boards to form an electronic assembly, which also creates a relatively large luminous surface that fills a large part of the light area of the light card 28. Such a design is preferably used for high luminous flux packages in spotlights and downlights.
[0046] Fig. 18 shows a plan view of a light card 30 with only one power LED in the center of the light area, which thus represents a light point and is preferably used for small luminous flux packages light control in spotlights and downlights.
[0047] Fig. Figure 19 shows a top view of a light card 32 with a rectangular light grid in the light area comprising five power LEDs 32A-32E, which are spaced relatively far apart. Such a light card is typically used for small luminous flux packages in spotlights and downlights with light-side optics that can be directly assigned to the individual LEDs.
[0048] Fig. 20 shows a plan view of a light card 34 with a medium-sized COB in the light area, which is preferably used for medium luminous flux packages in spotlights and downlights.
[0049] Fig. 21 shows the top view of a light card 36 with a square LED grid comprising 35 power LEDs, which is usually used for medium luminous flux packages in spotlights and downlights with luminaire-side optics that can be directly assigned to the individual LEDs.
[0050] Fig. 22 finally shows an embodiment with an LED grid comprising a 2-circuit control comprising two separate circuits, a cold white circuit and a separately controlled warm white circuit comprising power LEDs.
[0051] Fig. 23 shows a perspective view of an assembled light module comprising a mounting body 2 designed as a heat sink, a base 4 placed thereon, and an exemplary light card 20 inserted into this base. Clearly visible is the terminal 4H in the end stop 4G on the front side for the electrical and / or data connection of the light card 20 to the base 4 in the installed position.
[0052] Fig. 24 illustrates the sequence of movements for fastening the base 4 to the mounting body 2. For fastening, the mounting body 2 has two spaced-apart tabs 2A protruding from the surface, which serve as stops for receiving run-on bevels 4I, 4J (not shown) on the outside of the retaining strips 4E, 4F of the base 4, which in the installed position rest or engage below these tabs 2A. On the underside of the base 4, spaced-apart pins 4K, 4L are provided, which in the installed position engage in complementary holes 2F, 2G in the top side of the base and thus function as positioning means to arrange the base 4 immovably and precisely on the base body 2 in the installed position.
[0053] The Fig.Figure 25 further illustrates this process of fastening the base 4 to the mounting body 2 from a different perspective, namely a perspective top view. Accordingly, the base 4 simultaneously comprises positioning means in the form of holes 2B, 2C and pins 4K, 4L engaging in these in the installed position, fastening or holding means in the form of tabs 2A and ramps 4I, 4J engaging in these in the installed position, as well as releasable fixing means of the light card to the base in the form of elastic tabs 4C, 4D on the inner sides of the retaining strips 4E, 4F, which engage in the recesses of the light card (not shown) in the installed position and hold or fix it in the desired position.
[0054] It will be understood by a person skilled in the art that the assembly method according to the invention can also be implemented directly on a mounting body designed as a light housing and that the invention therefore also relates to a novel, modularly constructed assembly method for light modules or lights that can therefore be easily adapted to specific customer requirements.
[0055] The invention thus provides a modular lighting module that is particularly easy to adapt to new lighting situations, particularly by untrained personnel. To adjust the light distribution curve, either a different light card can be inserted into the lighting module or a different optics can be connected to it. This allows for a wide range of design options and modifications, each of which can be easily implemented by the end user.

All information and features disclosed in the documents – including the abstract – in particular the spatial configuration illustrated in the drawings are claimed as essential to the invention, insofar as they are novel, individually or in combination, compared to the prior art.
