The book swapping system comprises a mobile terminal, an intelligent bookshelf and a server; a book swapping client used for managing the book swapping flow is mounted in the mobile terminal; the intelligent bookshelf provides an offline entity platform for book asynchronous transferring; and the server is respectively connected with the mobile terminal and the intelligent bookshelf and used for monitoring and managing the mobile terminal and the intelligent bookshelf, so that the book swapping mode controllable in the whole process is realized. The book swapping system generates one book swapping record through the book swapping client, a book provider puts a book in an intelligent bookshelf in certain place, a book borrower takes the book in the intelligent bookshelf, thus, one book swapping is finished; the book borrower can release the book again for the swapping next time, so that the continuous book swapping mode controllable in the whole process is realized; meanwhile, the book swapping system and the swapping method solve the space-time limitation problem of book providers and book borrowers, so that the book resource in the society is utilized to the greatest extent, and the cost is greatly reduced.
