Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to an air conditioning system for a data center having a computer room with a plurality of rack rows, each of which separates a cold aisle from a warm aisle. Furthermore, the invention relates to a data center having such an air conditioning system. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for air conditioning a data center. State of the art
[0002] Data centers typically contain a large number of servers, network, and computer equipment to process, store, and exchange data as needed. Typically, a computer room contains a multitude of racks, called server racks, which house servers and associated equipment. The multitude of racks are each arranged in a rack row, so that several rack rows are arranged parallel to each other in a computer room. Depending on the size of the data center, a large amount of electrical power may be required to operate the system. Typically, a relatively high voltage is supplied, which is then transformed down to a lower voltage. A network of cabling, connectors, and power distribution units is used to deliver the lower voltage power to numerous specific components in the data center. The components generate a considerable amount of waste heat, which must be dissipated, making air conditioning necessary.
[0003] It is common practice to install the servers and racks of a data center on a second floor, also known as a raised floor, raised above the subfloor. The primary goal of air conditioning in a data center is to ensure a secure supply of cold air. For this purpose, recirculation air conditioning systems are used, for example, which blow cold air into the space between the floors. This cold air is drawn in by the servers through specially designed panels in the raised floor for cooling. Warm exhaust air is released at the rear of the racks and drawn in by the recirculation air conditioning systems, which in turn cool them and circulate the cooled air back to the servers through the raised floor. A raised floor system is described, for example, in WO 2009 / 109 296 A1.
[0004] Furthermore, DE 20 2009 015 124 U1 describes an arrangement for cooling electrical and electronic components and modular units in equipment cabinets, which are located, for example, in a data center. It provides for a cooling unit with fans to be arranged in a raised floor beneath a rack, with the fans being separated from each other in terms of air flow. Each fan is assigned a device for preventing recirculation, which is arranged downstream of the respective fan in terms of air flow.
[0005] The use of raised floors in a computer room can result in an undesirably high floor load. Furthermore, the use of raised floors and fans located in the raised floors, which must be coordinated with the position of the racks or rack rows within the raised floor, no longer allows for a freely selectable arrangement of the racks in the computer room. Instead, the positioning of the racks or rack rows is limited to a specific grid dimension of the raised floor.
[0006] JP 2011-220 665 A discloses an air conditioning system for a data center. Several rows of racks are arranged in the computer room of the data center. Several ventilation openings are located on two opposite sides of the computer room, behind which cooling units are arranged to blow cool air into the computer room. The racks are enclosed at the top by cover plates, with suction openings formed above the racks through which warm air can be extracted from the racks by fan units.
[0007] Further air conditioning systems are known from DE 10 2014 001 447 A1, EP 2 317 236 B1, JP 2011- 085 267 A, WO 2015 / 051 086 A1, WO 2014 / 191 533 A1 and US 9 069 534 B2. Description of the invention: task, solution, advantages
[0008] It is the object of the present invention to provide an air conditioning system, a data center and a method for air conditioning a data center, by means of which the above-mentioned disadvantages can be avoided.
[0009] This object is achieved by the features of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments and further developments of the invention are specified in the dependent claims.
[0010] The air conditioning system according to the invention for a data center, which has a computer room with a plurality of rack rows, each of which separates a cold aisle from a warm aisle, is characterized in that it comprises a partition arrangement which divides the computer room into a floor-level area and a ceiling-level area, wherein the rack rows, the cold aisles and the warm aisles are arranged in the floor-level area, and an air guidance system which is designed such that a cooled air flow is introduced into the cold aisles, the cooled air flow is guided from the cold aisles through the rack rows into the warm aisles and is heated in the process, the heated air flow from the warm aisles is guided into the ceiling-level area, the heated air flow from the area near the ceiling is directed into a collecting chamber arranged adjacent to the computer room and is introduced via a cooling device as a cooled air flow back into the cold aisles of the computer room, wherein the separating arrangement has a first covering section which covers the cold aisles in the transition between the area near the floor and the area near the ceiling of the computer room.
[0011] The air conditioning system according to the invention utilizes the physical effect that warmer air rises. The computer room is divided by the separation arrangement of the air conditioning system into a floor-level area and a ceiling-level area, with the heated air flow collecting in the ceiling-level area and being discharged from the computer room via the ceiling-level area. The separation of the floor-level area from the ceiling-level area preferably occurs essentially at the midpoint of the height of the computer room, so that the height of the floor-level area approximately corresponds to the height of the ceiling-level area. The rack rows, the cold aisles, and the warm aisles are arranged in the floor-level area. The area near the ceiling forms a type of vapor extraction hood thanks to the air conditioning system's partition arrangement, which draws the heated air flow from the warm aisles in the area near the floor into the area near the ceiling and collects it there, so that the heated air flow collected in the area near the ceiling can be diverted from the area near the ceiling and thus from the computer room. The partition arrangement is preferably designed such that the heated air flow from the warm aisles can flow unhindered into the area near the ceiling. The heated air flow extracted from the area near the ceiling is directed into a collection chamber adjacent to the computer room, where it is cooled by a cooling device. This air flow is then fed back into the computer room from the collection chamber in the form of a cooled air flow, with the cooled air flow being fed directly into the cold aisles of the computer room.Starting from the cold aisles, the cooled airflow is directed in such a way that it flows through the rack rows from the cold aisle into a warm aisle, where it is heated and then guided as a heated airflow from the warm aisles into the area near the ceiling and from there out of the computer room into the collection room. This air guidance system enables circulation of the airflow, with cooled air being introduced into the area near the floor of the computer room and heated air being removed from the area near the ceiling. This design of the air conditioning system eliminates the need for a raised floor in the computer room on which the racks or rack rows are arranged. The rack rows can now be arranged directly on the main floor of the computer room. Because a raised floor is no longer required, problems with excessive floor loads no longer arise. In addition, the arrangement of the racks or rows of racks in the room can be freely chosen, as their arrangement is no longer limited to a raised floor grid.
[0012] The air duct system preferably comprises a plurality of fans for extracting the heated air flow from the computer room. These fans are preferably arranged near the ceiling of the computer room and form an air passage from the computer room into the collection chamber. The plurality of fans are preferably arranged as close as possible to the ceiling of the computer room. This prevents the formation of hot spots on the ceiling of the computer room, since the air or the heated air flow can be extracted at ceiling height via the fans and directed into the collection chamber. The fans are distributed throughout the computer room in the area near the ceiling of the computer room.
[0013] The fans are preferably designed as recirculation fans. EC fans are preferred, as they are easily controllable and their power consumption remains low at various speeds.
[0014] Furthermore, it is preferably provided that the air guidance system has a plurality of heat exchangers as a cooling device for cooling the heated air flow, which are arranged in the area of the computer room close to the floor and form an air passage from the collection chamber into the computer room. After the heated air flow has been introduced into the collection chamber via the fans, it is preferably guided to the heat exchangers in the collection chamber, wherein the heated air flow is cooled as it flows through the heat exchangers, so that the cooled air flow emerging from the heat exchangers can be guided directly back into the cold aisles of the computer room. For this purpose, the heat exchangers are preferably arranged in an area between the collection chamber and the computer room and form an air passage so that after emerging from the heat exchangers, the cooled air flow can flow directly back into the computer room. The heated air flow flows into the heat exchangers in the area of the collection chamber.
[0015] The fans and / or heat exchangers are preferably integrated into a wall located between the computer room and the collection chamber. By integrating them into a wall located between the computer room and the collection chamber, the fans and / or heat exchangers can be located directly adjacent to both the computer room and the collection chamber, enabling effective guidance or routing of the air flow from the collection chamber into the computer room and from the computer room into the collection chamber.
[0016] In order to be able to efficiently regulate the amount of circulating air flow in the form of the cooled air flow and the heated air flow, it is preferably provided that two fans each form a functional unit with a heat exchanger.
[0017] To ensure optimal delivery of the cooled airflow into the cold aisles of the computer room, the heat exchangers are preferably arranged flush with the cold aisles. The cooled airflow exiting the heat exchangers can thus be directly directed into the cold aisles without any cooling losses, thus achieving the most efficient energy utilization and energy savings possible.
[0018] According to the invention, the air guidance system comprises at least one distribution aisle which runs along one end face of the cold aisles transversely to the cold aisles and connects the cold aisles to one another, the distribution aisle being arranged adjacent to the collection space and extending parallel to the collection space. The distribution aisle is formed in the computer room and enables the cooled air flow to be distributed into the individual cold aisles in order to ensure the most even distribution and constant cooling of the cold aisles possible. The cooled air flow flowing into the computer room from the collection space via the cooling device, in particular the heat exchangers, is thus first introduced into the distribution aisle and then into the cold aisles via the distribution aisle. The distribution aisle can form a pressure zone.
[0019] Preferably, two collection chambers are provided, which are arranged on two opposite sides of the computer room. By forming two collection chambers adjacent to the computer room, the air conditioning of the computer room can be improved because, on the one hand, the heated air flow can be diverted from the computer room into collection chambers on two sides, and the cooled air flow can also be introduced into the computer room from two sides. This enables a clean separation of the cold aisles. By introducing the cooled air flow via two opposite sides of the computer room, the speed at which the cooled air flow is introduced into the cold aisles can be reduced. This enables energy savings in the air conditioning system.
[0020] If two collection chambers are provided, it is preferred that the air duct system also includes two oppositely arranged distribution ducts. The two oppositely arranged distribution ducts then each run parallel to one of the two collection chambers.
[0021] To demarcate the area near the floor from the area near the ceiling of the computer room, the partition arrangement has a first cover section which covers the cold aisles in the transition between the area near the floor and the area near the ceiling of the computer room. By covering the cold aisles, the cooled air flow can be prevented from flowing directly from the cold aisles into the area near the ceiling. The cover forces the cooled air flow to flow through the racks into the warm aisle. The first cover section forms an airtight cover in that the first cover section is hermetically sealed to the rack rows so that the entire cooled air flow can be guided through the racks or rack rows with as little loss as possible. The first cover section can, for example, be plate-shaped and rest on two adjacent rack rows, thereby covering a cold aisle. For example, the first cover section covering the cold aisles can be made of Plexiglas panels.
[0022] According to the invention, the partition arrangement has a second cover section which covers the distribution aisles in the transition between the area near the floor and the area near the ceiling of the computer room. The distribution aisles, into which the cooled air flow can first be introduced from the collection space and then distributed to the individual cold aisles, are also covered towards the area near the ceiling in order to prevent the cooled air flow from flowing directly from the distribution aisles into the area near the ceiling and thus no longer into the cold aisles. Losses of cooled air flow can thus be prevented by means of the second cover section. The second cover section is also hermetically sealed and forms an airtight seal with the respective wall of the computer room and the rack rows. The second cover section is also preferably plate-shaped.For example, the second cover section can be made of opaque plastic panels.
[0023] The air distribution system also features a rack enclosure with rounded corners on the end faces of the rack rows facing the cold aisles. The rack enclosure and rounded corners allow for better airflow and distribution of the cooled air stream when introduced into the cold aisles, as the rounded edges prevent airflow separation and thus air turbulence.
[0024] In order to control the guidance of the air flow and to control the heat dissipation in the heat exchangers, it is preferably provided that the air guidance system has temperature sensors, wherein preferably at least one temperature sensor is assigned to each hot aisle.
[0025] Furthermore, it is preferably provided that the air guidance system comprises pressure relief devices, with at least one pressure relief device preferably being assigned to each hot aisle. The pressure relief devices can prevent thermal air expansion in the hot aisle, which can occur due to the high specific air volume flow and relatively strong air heating in the rack rows.
[0026] The object of the invention is further achieved by means of a data center with an air conditioning system designed and developed as described above.
[0027] Furthermore, the object of the invention is achieved by means of a method for air conditioning a data center having a computer room with a plurality of rack rows, each of which separates a cold aisle from a warm aisle, in which a separating arrangement divides the computer room into a floor-level area and a ceiling-level area, wherein the rack rows, the cold aisles and the warm aisles are arranged in the floor-level area, and in which a cooled air flow is introduced into the cold aisles by means of an air guidance system, the cooled air flow is guided from the cold aisles through the rack rows into the warm aisles and is heated in the process, the heated air flow from the warm aisles is guided into the ceiling-level area, the heated air flow from the area near the ceiling is directed into a collection chamber arranged adjacent to the computer room and is introduced via a cooling device as a cooled air flow from the collection chamber back into the cold aisles of the computer room, wherein the separation arrangement has a first covering section which covers the cold aisles in the transition between the area near the floor and the area near the ceiling of the computer room. Short description of the drawings
[0028] Further measures improving the invention are presented in more detail below, together with the description of preferred embodiments of the invention, with reference to the figures. They show: Fig. 1 is a schematic representation of an air conditioning system according to the invention with a representation of the guidance of the air flow, Fig. 2 a schematic representation of a data center with a Fig. 1 shown air conditioning system, Fig. 3 a schematic perspective view of a computer room with a computer arranged therein, as in Fig. 1 shown air conditioning system, Fig. 4 is another schematic representation of a computer room with a Fig. 1 shown air conditioning system, and Fig. 5 a schematic detail view of a computer room with a Fig. 1 shown air conditioning system. Preferred embodiments of the invention
[0029] Fig. 1 shows an air conditioning system 100 for a vehicle such as in Fig. 2 shown data center 200.
[0030] In Fig. 1 shows a partial section of such a data center 200, wherein a section view of part of a computer room 210 of the data center 200 is shown. In this computer room 210, as shown in Fig. 2, a plurality of rack rows 211 are arranged, wherein in the Fig. In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, five rack rows 211 are arranged parallel to one another and spaced apart from one another. Each rack row 211 consists of a plurality of racks in which electronic devices, such as servers, are arranged. The rack rows 211 each separate a cold aisle 212 from a warm aisle 213, so that a plurality of cold aisles 212 and a plurality of warm aisles 213 are formed in the computer room 210.
[0031] As in Fig. 1, the computer room 210 is separated by a partition arrangement 110 of the air conditioning system 100 into a floor-level area 214 and a ceiling-level area 215. The rack rows 211, the warm aisles 213, and the cold aisles 212 are arranged in the floor-level area 214. As shown in Fig. 1, the computer room 210 is essentially divided in the middle of its height into the area near the floor 214 and the area near the ceiling 215, so that the area near the floor 214 has approximately the same height as the area near the ceiling 215.
[0032] Adjacent to the computer room 210, a collection chamber 111 is formed by the air conditioning system 100. The computer room 210 is separated from the collection chamber 111 by a wall 112. Several heat exchangers 113 and several fans 114 are integrated into this wall 112 as cooling devices. The heat exchangers 113 are arranged at a distance from one another at the level of the area 214 near the floor of the computer room 210. The fans 114 are arranged at a distance from one another at the level of the area 215 near the ceiling of the computer room 210.
[0033] The air guidance system 120 is designed such that a cooled air flow L Kis introduced into the cold aisles 212 of the ground-level area 214 of the computer room 210, the cooled air flow L K from the cold aisles 212 through the rack rows 211 into the warm aisles 213 and is thereby heated, the heated air flow L W from the warm aisles 213 into the near-ceiling area 215, the heated air flow L K from the area 215 near the ceiling into a collecting space 111 arranged adjacent to the computer room 210 and via the heat exchanger 113 or the plurality of heat exchangers 113 arranged along the wall 112 as a cooled air flow L K from the collection room 111 back into the cold aisles 212 of the computer room 210.
[0034] The extraction of the heated air flow L W from the area 215 near the ceiling is carried out via the fan 114 or via the plurality of fans 114 arranged along the wall 112. The fans 114 are, as in Fig. 1, is arranged as close as possible to the ceiling 216 of the computer room 210 in order to prevent the formation of heat pockets on the ceiling 216 of the computer room 210.
[0035] As particularly in Fig. 1 and Fig. As can be further seen in Figure 2, the air guidance system 120 has two distribution aisles 115, each formed between a collecting space 111 or the wall 112 and an end face of the cold aisles 212 or an end face 217 of the rack rows 211. The distribution aisles 115 thus run along the end faces of the cold aisles 212 and thus transversely to the cold aisles 212, so that the distribution aisles 115 connect the cold aisles 212 to one another. The cold aisles 212 are open towards the distribution aisles 115, so that the cooled air flow L K from the distribution aisles 115 can flow unhindered into the cold aisles 212. The cooled air flow L emerging from the collection spaces 111 or the heat exchangers 113K thus first flows into one of the distribution aisles 115 before flowing into the cold aisles 212.
[0036] The distribution aisles 115 are arranged adjacent to the collection rooms 111 and extend parallel to the collection rooms 111.
[0037] As in Fig. As can be seen in Figure 2, a collection chamber 111 and thus also a distribution aisle 115 are arranged on two opposite sides of the computer room 210. A cooled air flow L K can thus flow into the computer room 210 and in particular into the distribution aisles 115 and the cold aisles 212 of the computer room 210 via two sides of the computer room 210.
[0038] Fig. Figure 3 shows a perspective view of the computer room 210, showing the rack rows 211, the warm aisles 213, and the cold aisles 212. Furthermore, the two opposing distribution aisles 115 can also be seen, and the fact that the distribution aisles 115 are open toward the cold aisles 212, whereas a wall or a door 116 is arranged between the warm aisles 213 and the distribution aisles 115, so that cooled air flow L can be prevented from escaping from the distribution aisles 115. K can flow directly into the warm aisles 213 before it has passed the rack rows 211.
[0039] Furthermore, Fig. 3 shows a first cover section 117 and a second cover section 118 of the partition assembly 110 of the air conditioning system 100. The first cover section 117 covers the cold aisles 212 in the transition between the floor-level area 214 and the ceiling-level area 215 of the computer room 210. The second cover section 118 covers the distribution aisles 115 in the transition between the floor-level area 214 and the ceiling-level area 215 of the computer room 210. Here, an airtight cover is formed by means of the cover sections 117, 118, by forming an airtight connection to the rack rows 211, on which the first cover section 117 and the second cover section 118 are arranged and fastened, and also an airtight connection to the wall 112, on which the second cover section 118 is arranged and fastened. The two cover sections 117, 118 are plate-shaped and in the Fig. In the embodiment shown in Figure 3, these two cover sections 117, 118 are formed in one piece or are directly connected to one another so that they form a unit.
[0040] Furthermore, Fig. 3 that the heat exchangers 113 are each arranged in alignment with a cold aisle 212. Furthermore, two fans 114 are assigned to each heat exchanger 113, so that one heat exchanger 113 together with two fans 114 can form a functional unit, so that the heat exchanger 113 can jointly control the fans 114 of a functional unit according to the required cooling capacity or according to the required removal of the heated air flow L W can be controlled from the ceiling area 215 of the computer room 210.
[0041] Fig. 4 shows a representation in which it can be seen that the first cover section 117 is formed from a different material than the second cover section 118, wherein the first cover section 117 is formed from Plexiglas panes and the second cover section 118 is formed from non-transparent, opaque plastic panes or plastic plates.
[0042] Furthermore, Fig. 4 shows the two opposing distribution ducts 115 and thus also the two opposing walls 112, on which the heat exchangers 113 and the fans 114 are arranged, respectively. It can be seen that the same number of fans 114 and the same number of heat exchangers 113 are arranged on each wall 112, with two fans 114 being assigned to each heat exchanger 113.
[0043] In Fig. Figure 5 shows a partial section of the computer room 210 and the air conditioning system 100, showing a rack enclosure 119 of the air distribution system 120. The rack enclosure 119 is rounded at the corner regions 218 of the end faces 217 of the rack rows 211 facing the cold aisles 212 in order to facilitate the guidance and distribution of the cooled air flow L K to improve access to cold aisles 212.
[0044] Furthermore, Fig. 5 also shows that an airtight door 116 is arranged in the transition area between the distribution aisles 115 and the warm aisles 213, wherein this airtight door 116 can be part of the rack enclosure 119.
[0045] The invention is not limited in its implementation to the preferred embodiments specified above. Rather, a number of variants are conceivable, which utilize the solutions presented even in fundamentally different embodiments. All features and / or advantages apparent from the claims, the description, or the drawings, including structural details, spatial arrangements, and method steps, may be essential to the invention both individually and in a wide variety of combinations.
