Abstract

A method for determining the attention of a driver of a vehicle, wherein: - the driver's gaze direction is determined; - an attention value is continuously determined that is representative of the driver's attention to a predefined area, wherein the attention value is determined by: - ​​determining, depending on the determined gaze direction, whether the driver is looking into the predefined area; - if it is determined that the driver is looking into the predefined area, determining the attention value using a predefined loading function, where the loading function is a predefined exponential function; and - if it is determined that the driver is not looking into the predefined area, determining the attention value using a predefined unloading function.
