Description

[0001] The invention relates to an internal combustion engine arrangement for a motor vehicle having at least one internal combustion engine and an exhaust system connected thereto via a fastening arrangement, wherein the fastening arrangement has at least one rigid holder member and at least one connection arrangement with a damping arrangement, wherein the damping arrangement has at least one damping body with an articulation member connected thereto.

[0002] Such an internal combustion engine arrangement is known from DE 10 2008 021 281 A1. The fact that the exhaust system is arranged on the internal combustion engine via a fastening arrangement creates a particularly compact internal combustion engine arrangement. This compactness is necessary due to the additional components required for safety and emission control reasons, and the resulting ever-decreasing available internal combustion engine installation space. The exhaust system comprises at least one silencer, an exhaust manifold arrangement, and at least one catalytic converter. In order to dampen vibrations due to oscillations of the exhaust gas in the exhaust system, it is known from DE 10 2008 021 281 A1 to fasten the exhaust manifold or the catalytic converter to the internal combustion engine via a connecting arrangement with a damping arrangement. The linkage element is fastened, for example, to the catalytic converter or the exhaust manifold.Furthermore, the exhaust system is attached to the internal combustion engine via at least one rigid engine mount. Despite such a mounting arrangement, higher vibrations still occur in the exhaust system, which are transmitted via engine mounts to the body and thus, for example, to seat rails and the steering column. These vibrations are perceived as disadvantageous by the vehicle user. Further prior art is US 2012 / 0 214 365 A1, which discloses a jet ski in which a catalytic converter is attached to an internal combustion engine via a support clamp with damping elements. However, this damping arrangement is not suitable for use in an internal combustion engine arrangement for a motor vehicle because, on the one hand, due to the engine power, the internal combustion engine arrangements and the exhaust systems are not comparable in terms of their vibration capabilities and, on the other hand, the noise sensitivity of a user of a motor vehicle is not comparable to the noise sensitivity of a jet ski driver during operation.

[0003] The object of the invention is therefore to avoid the above-mentioned disadvantage in a simple and cost-effective manner.

[0004] This object is achieved in that the articulation element of the at least one damping arrangement is connected directly or indirectly to the internal combustion engine and the damping body is connected directly or indirectly to the exhaust system, wherein the damping body is fastened to a converter via connecting means of the connecting arrangement and wherein the damping body advantageously has a plurality of cushions by which the articulation element is subjected to pressure in the retraction and extension directions. It has been found that in a certain speed range the exhaust system is excited to natural resonance. Because the articulation element of the at least one damping arrangement is now directly or indirectly connected to the internal combustion engine, the resonance height can be significantly reduced and the natural frequency shifted. The special design of the damping body ensures a reduction in the force and amplitude in the described vibration system.

[0005] In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the damping direction of the damping arrangement runs in the direction of a vehicle's vertical axis. This ensures a very compact internal combustion engine arrangement.

[0006] The connecting means can advantageously comprise a clamping tab which is fastened to a fastening holder.

[0007] For easy installation, the linkage element is designed as a rod element with a thread on the side facing the engine. This thread then engages, for example, with a threaded eyelet on the engine mount for assembly.

[0008] The damping body advantageously has several cushions through which the linkage element is subjected to pressure in the retraction and extension directions in order to ensure a reduction of the force and amplitude in the described vibration system.

[0009] The invention is explained in more detail with reference to a drawing, which shows: Fig. 1 a perspective, schematic view of an internal combustion engine arrangement, Fig. 2 a perspective view of an exhaust system of the internal combustion engine arrangement from Fig. 1 and, Fig. 3 a perspective view of a detail in the area of a damping arrangement from Fig. 2.

[0010] Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of an internal combustion engine arrangement 2. The internal combustion engine arrangement 2 essentially consists of an internal combustion engine 4 with a variety of attachments, which will not be discussed further in the context of this application, and an exhaust system 8 arranged via a fastening arrangement 6. As can already be seen from this illustration, the fastening arrangement has a rigid holder member 10, via which the exhaust system 8 is rigidly connected to the internal combustion engine 4. In a known manner, the internal combustion engine 4 and the exhaust system 8 are connected together in the region of this holder member 10 to an engine blade (not shown in detail) of a vehicle body.In the present exemplary embodiment, the exhaust system 8 has a silencer 12, four exhaust tailpipes 14, an exhaust manifold arrangement 16, and two converters 18, 20 designed as exhaust manifold catalysts, of which only the exhaust manifold catalyst 18 is shown in the present view. Furthermore, a crankcase 22 of the internal combustion engine 4 can be seen schematically, on which, as explained in connection with FIGS. Fig. 2 and Fig. 3, the exhaust system 8 is arranged via two connecting arrangements 24, 26.

[0011] Fig. 2 now shows in a perspective view the exhaust system 8 from Fig. 1. As already mentioned in connection with Fig. 1, the exhaust system 8 essentially consists of a silencer 12, an exhaust manifold arrangement 16, exhaust tailpipes 14 which extend through arranged body parts 28, 30, and exhaust manifold catalytic converters 18, 20. The exhaust system 8 is, on the one hand, rigidly connected to the internal combustion engine 4 via the holder member 10 and, on the other hand, coupled to the internal combustion engine in a damped manner via the connecting assemblies 24, 26. As can already be seen here, the connecting assemblies 24, 26 each have a damping assembly 32. A damping body 34 is fastened to the converter 20 via connecting means 36 and the connecting assembly 26. On the other side, the damping body 34 is fastened to the internal combustion engine 4 via a linkage member 38, as shown in more detail below.

[0012] Fig.3 now shows the connection arrangement 26 in detail. The damping body 34 has, in a known manner, several cushions (not shown in detail), through which the articulation element 38 is pressure-loaded in the retraction and extension directions, thus providing damping in both directions. The articulation element 38 is essentially designed as a rod element and runs in the direction of a vertical axis of the vehicle, i.e., vertically, which also determines the damping direction in this direction. On the side facing the internal combustion engine 4, the rod element 38 has a thread 40 with a locating tip that engages a corresponding threaded eye 42 of an engine mount 44, which in turn is fastened to the crankcase 22 of the internal combustion engine 4.

[0013] As previously described, the damping body 34 is attached to the converter 20 via connecting means 36. The connecting means 36 consist of a clamping bracket 46, which is arranged via weld nuts 48 on a mounting bracket 50, with the mounting bracket being welded to the converter 20. Due to the special orientation of the damping body 34, the resonance height is significantly reduced and the natural frequency can be shifted.
