DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0010] An embodiment of a receiving structure for a connector cap, an electrical junction box, and a wire harness according to the present invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. This embodiment is not intended to limit the present invention. The components described in the following embodiment include components that can be easily understood by those skilled in the art and are interchangeable or substantially identical.
[0011] In the following description, three directions that intersect each other are referred to as "first direction X," "second direction Y," and "third direction Z" for convenience. Here, the first direction X, the second direction Y, and the third direction Z are perpendicular to each other. The third direction Z typically corresponds to a direction in which a connector cap 30 is inserted into a receiving portion 20, as described later, and also corresponds to a direction in which an upper cover, a frame 12, and a lower cover 13, which will also be described later, are stacked. The first direction X and the second direction Y are different directions perpendicular to the third direction Z.The following description may refer to one side of the frame 12 facing the upper cover as an upper portion or a top side, and may refer to another side of the frame 12 facing the lower cover 13 as a lower portion or a bottom side in the third direction Z. Embodiment
[0012] Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of an electrical junction box 1 according to an embodiment. The junction box 1 shown in the embodiment is installed in a vehicle, such as an automobile, and integrated with a wire harness WH. The wire harness WH is a member obtained by, for example, bundling a plurality of conductive elements W into a composite component and connecting the conductive elements W to corresponding devices mounted in the vehicle via connectors or the like, so that these devices can be connected to each other. The conductive elements W are used for inputting power from a power supply or for signal communication. The wire harness WH includes the conductive elements W and the electrical junction box 1 electrically connected to the conductive elements W.Each conductive element W is, for example, a metal rod, an electric wire, or an electric wire bundle. The metal rod is obtained by covering the outer surface of a conductive rod-shaped element with an insulating covering portion. The electric wire is obtained by covering a conductor portion (conductor core) consisting of a plurality of conductive metal strands with an insulating covering portion. The electric wire bundle is obtained by bundling these electric wires. While the wire harness WH bundles and unites these conductive elements W, the electrical connection box 1 is electrically connected to the wire harness WH via connectors or the like that are connected to the corresponding terminals of the conductive elements W. The wire harness WH may further include members such as a grommet, a protective member, and a bracket.
[0013] The electrical junction box 1 accommodates and connects parts of an electrical device, such as a connector, a fuse, a relay, a capacitor, a branch section, and an electronic control unit. The electrical junction box 1 is mounted, for example, in an engine compartment of the vehicle or in a vehicle interior. The electrical junction box 1 is connected to and between a power supply, such as a battery, and each device among various electronic devices mounted on the vehicle via the conductive elements W and other elements. The electrical junction box 1 distributes the power supplied from the power supply to the various electronic devices mounted on the vehicle.Although the electrical connection box 1 may otherwise be referred to as a junction box, fuse box, relay box or the like, according to the present embodiment, these are collectively referred to as an electrical connection box.
[0014] Specifically, the electrical junction box 1 includes a housing 10 and various electronic components 5. The housing 10 is formed of a resin material and is adapted to accommodate the electronic components 5. The housing 10 includes a frame 12, the upper cover (not shown) attached to the upper portion of the frame 12, and the lower cover 13 attached to the lower portion of the frame 12. Fig. 1 shows a state where the top cover has been removed.
[0015] Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the electrical connection box 1 of the Fig. 1 seen from the bottom. Fig. Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the electrical connection box 1 from the bottom, with the bottom cover 13 removed. On an inner wall 15 of the frame 12, a connector holder 16, to which a connector plug 6 is connected, is arranged below a base 17 on which an electronic component 5 is mounted. The connector holder 16 is provided on the inner wall 15 of the frame 12 and is located at a position relatively close to the lower end of the inner wall 15, that is, at a position relatively close to the bottom cover 13 (see Fig. 1). The connector holder 16 is arranged in such an orientation that the connector plug 6 can be inserted in a direction perpendicular to the inner wall 15. The receiving portion 20, into which the connector cap 30 can be inserted, is provided within the frame 12.
[0016] Fig. 3 shows a partial view of part A of the Fig. 2. The receiving portion 20 is suitable for receiving two or more connector caps 30. The receiving portion 20 has an opening portion 25 which is arranged at a lower end of the receiving portion 20 in the third direction Z and which opens downwards in the third direction Z. In order to be arranged in the downwardly opening receiving portion 20, the connector cap 30 points upwards in the third direction Z when it is inserted into the receiving portion 20. In Fig. 3, the upward and downward directions are opposite to the actual upward and downward directions, with the top of the side that the Fig. 3, corresponds to the bottom of the electrical junction box 3.
[0017] Fig. 4 shows an exemplary view of the Fig. 2, without the connector cap 30. Fig. 5 shows a sectional view of the Fig. 4. The receiving portion 20 includes wall portions 21 and a bottom portion 22. The wall portion 21 is provided upright from the inner walls 15 of the frame 12. The bottom portion 22 is disposed on one side of the receiving portion 20 opposite in the third direction Z to the other side thereof, on which the opening portion 25 is located, and closes the receiving portion 20. More specifically, according to the present embodiment, the receiving portion 20 is located near a portion of the frame 21 where the inner walls 15 extending along two different directions intersect. That is, the receiving portion 20 is formed near a corner portion of the frame 12.Thus, the receiving portion 20 is formed by the inner walls 15, which extend along two different directions and which form the corner portion within the frame 12 in the environment in which the receiving portion 20 is also arranged.
[0018] The wall portions 21 comprising the receiving portion 20 are formed such that two wall portions 21 are formed upright from the corresponding inner walls 15, extending along two different directions. For this reason, the wall portions 21 are arranged aligned in different directions. While one of the wall portions 21 is provided upright in the first direction X from one of the inner walls 15 extending in two directions, the other wall portion 21 is provided upright in the second direction Y from the other inner wall 15. These two wall portions 21, thus provided in different directions, intersect each other to form a corner portion.Consequently, from the perspective of the third direction Z, the receiving portion 20 has a substantially rectangular shape formed by the inner walls 15 extending in two different directions and the two wall portions 21.
[0019] While the bottom portion 22 is located on one side of the receiving portion 20 opposite in the third direction Z from the other side where the opening portion 25 is located, the latter is connected by the inner walls 15 extending in two different directions and the two wall portions 21. Thus, the bottom portion 22 closes the receiving portion 20 at a position opposite across the receiving portion 20 in the third direction Z to a position forming the opening portion 25. According to the present embodiment, the bottom portion 22 is arranged on the upper end side of the receiving portion 20 and closes the upper end side of the receiving portion 20. According to the present embodiment, the bottom portion 22 has a level difference, that is, it has portions whose positions are different in the third direction Z.
[0020] Fig. Fig. 6 shows an exemplary view showing one of the connector caps 30 of the Fig. 3. Each connector cap 30 has a substantially cylindrical shape with one side closed to form a bottom, and is a member formed of synthetic resin. The connector cap 30 can cover interconnected portions of the conductor portions 41 of a plurality of electric wires 40 included in the conductive path members W to protect the conductor portions 41. More specifically, the respective electric wires 40 are covered electric wires, and each electric wire 40 has an insulating cover removed therefrom such that a conductor core constituting the conductor portion 41 is exposed at an end portion thereof. In the plurality of electric wires 40, the exposed portions of the conductor cores, that is, the exposed portions of the conductor portions 41, are electrically connected to each other by welding or the like. Thus, the respective conductor sections 41 in the plurality of electrical lines 40 are connected to one another.
[0021] The connector cap 30 is placed over the plurality of electrical wires 40 having the conductor portions 41 to be connected thereby, covering the conductor portions 41. That is, the connector cap 30 has a substantially cylindrical shape with a bottom and is placed over the electrical wires 40 from the side of the connector cap 30 opposite a front end portion 31 forming an end portion on the closed side thereof. Thus, the conductor portions 41 connected to each other in the plurality of electrical wires 40 are inserted into the connector cap 30, and portions of the electrical wires 40 are inserted into the connector cap 30. On a side of the electrical wires 40 where the conductor portions 41 are exposed, the portions are provided around end portions of the electrical wires 40 and enclose the conductor portions 41.
[0022] The portions of the electrical wires 40 arranged around end portions of the conductor portions 41 on a side thereof where the conductor portions 41 are exposed are thus caused to penetrate into the connector cap 30, whereby the connector cap 30 is capable of performing waterproof and insulating functions by covering the portions through which the conductor portions 41 are connected to each other. The plurality of electrical wires 40, whose conductor portions 41 are connected to each other and covered by the connector cap 30, form an electrical wire bundle 45. A plurality of such electrical wire bundles 45 are used in which two or more electrical wires 40 are covered by the connector cap 30, since the receiving portion 20 (see Fig. 3) can accommodate two or more connector caps 30.
[0023] Fig. 6 shows an example in which the electrical wires 40 covered by the connector cap 30 form the two electrical wires 40 in which the conductor portions 41 are connected to each other. However, the number of electrical wires 40 in which the conductor portions 41 are connected to each other may be three or more, and the connector cap 30 may be fitted over three or more electrical wires 40.
[0024] Fig. Fig. 7 shows an exemplary view of a state in which two or more connector caps 30, each like the one shown in Fig. 6 are used and connected. The two or more connector caps 30 are inserted into the receiving section 20 (see Fig. 3), the two or more connector caps 30 are accommodated while being connected by a binding member 50. The binding member 50, which binds the connector caps 30 together, is formed from a tape-like member, and according to the present embodiment, an adhesive tape is used. The binding member 50, formed from a tape-like member, connects the two or more connector caps 30 to each other by tightly wrapping the connector caps 30 while aligning the two or more connector caps 30 located on the plurality of electrical wire bundles 45 in the same direction.
[0025] In this binding process, the binding member 50 binds the two or more connector caps 30 together at a position corresponding to the front end side of the connector caps 30. That is, the binding member 50 is wound around the connected two or more connector caps 30 at a position relatively close to the front end portions in the longitudinal direction of each connector cap 30.
[0026] The dimensions of the two or more connector caps 30 connected to each other by the binding member 50 do not necessarily have to be uniform. The two or more connector caps 30 used herein may have different diameters or different lengths. Furthermore, when the two or more connector caps 30 are connected by the binding member 50, the relative positions of the connector caps 30 do not necessarily have to be arranged uniformly in the longitudinal direction of each connector cap 30.
[0027] For example, according to the present embodiment, the bottom portion 22 (see Fig. 5) of the receiving portion 20, the level difference or height difference. Thus, the two or more connector caps 30 can be connected to each other by the binding element 50, whose relative positions in the longitudinal direction of each connector cap 30 can be varied to adapt them to the level difference of the bottom portion 22 of the receiving portion 20, as shown in Fig. 7 shown.
[0028] Fig. Figure 8 shows a sectional view of a main section with the Fig.7, which are arranged in the receiving portion 20. The electrical connection box 1 according to the present embodiment includes a structure 100 for receiving the connector caps 30, which is provided in the housing 10. The receiving structure 100 includes the plurality of electrical wire bundles 45 covered with the connector caps 30, the binding member 50, and the receiving portion 20. In the structure 100 for receiving the connector caps 30 according to the present embodiment, the two or more connector caps 30 are arranged in the receiving portion 20, and the single receiving portion 20 receives therein the two or more connector caps 30 that have been connected to each other by the binding member 50.That is, the two or more connector caps 30 bound together by the binding member 50 are inserted into the receiving portion 20 from a side thereof having the opening portion 25, and the receiving portion 20 accommodates the two or more connector caps 30 together. Upon insertion into the receiving portion 20, the connector caps 30 are aligned such that the corresponding front end portions 31 of the connector caps 30 are positioned closer to the bottom portion 22 of the receiving portion 20. Thus, the two or more connector caps 30 bound into one member by the binding member 50 are accommodated by the receiving portion 20 with the front end portions 31 of the connector caps 30 in contact with the bottom portion 22 of the receiving portion 20.
[0029] Here, the dimension of the receiving portion 20 in a specific direction, such as the first direction X or the second direction Y perpendicular to the third direction Z, is smaller than the dimension in the specific direction that the two or more connector caps 30 connected to each other by the binding member 50 have before they are received in the receiving portion 20. The connector cap 30 is a member made of synthetic resin and thus has elasticity. Thus, when the two or more connector caps 30 are inserted and housed in the receiving portion 20, they are press-fitted therein, causing the connector caps 30 to elastically deform. After the two or more connector caps 30 are inserted into the receiving portion 20 in this way, pressure is generated between the connector caps 30 and each of the wall portions 21 constituting the receiving portion 20, and between the connector caps 30 and each of the inner walls 15 of the frame 12. A large frictional force generated by this pressure makes it unlikely that the two or more connector caps 30 will detach from the receiving portion 20. As a result, the two or more connector caps 30 accommodated in the receiving portion 20 are unlikely to detach from the downwardly opening portion 25 of the receiving portion 20, so they remain disposed in the receiving portion 20.
[0030] When the connector caps 30 are in such a state accommodated in the receiving portion 20, the electrical wires 40, the end portions of which are covered by the corresponding connector cap 30, extend downward from the connector cap 30 in the third direction Z and are wired accordingly.
[0031] With the above-described structure 100 for accommodating the connector caps 30 according to the embodiment, the two or more connector caps 30 are bound together by winding the binding member 50 around the two or more connector caps 30 that have been joined into a unit, and the two or more connector caps 30 bound together by the binding member 50 are housed as a unit in the accommodating portion 20. Thus, even in a case where the plurality of electric wire bundles 45 are used, each of which has the plurality of electric wires 40 covered by the corresponding connector cap 30, the connector caps 30 corresponding to the plurality of electric wire bundles 45 can be housed together in the accommodating portion 20. Thus, laborious attachment of the connector caps 30 can be avoided. Therefore, even when two or more connector caps 30 are used, the two or more connector caps 30 can be easily attached. Thus, a simple attachment process is ensured.
[0032] Even if two or more connector caps 30 are used, it is not necessary to insert the two or more connector caps 30 individually into the receiving portion 20. The connector caps 30 can be received in a shorter time, thus reducing the fastening effort. This can reduce manufacturing costs.
[0033] In addition, only one receiving portion 20 is required even if two or more of the connector caps 30 are used. The number of wall portions 21 constituting the receiving portion 20 is fewer than usual. This can reduce the material cost for manufacturing the housing 10. Reducing the number of wall portions 21 can contribute to a reduction in the size of the housing 10. These effects not only reduce manufacturing costs but also downsize the electrical connection box 1 having the receiving portion 20 in which the two or more connector caps 30 are housed.
[0034] Furthermore, the binding member 50 binds two or more of the connector caps 30 together at a position relatively close to the front ends of the connector caps 30, that is, on a side having the front end portions 31. The binding force applied to the positions on the other side from the one side having the front end portions 31 in the longitudinal direction of each of the connector caps 30 can be reduced. That is, when the two or more connector caps 30 are bound together by the binding member 50, the bonding is performed by wrapping the binding member 50 around the connector caps 30. Therefore, the binding force, that is, the force required to bond the two or more connector caps 30, is transmitted from the binding member 50 to the connector caps 30.The binding force applied by the binding member 50 to the connector caps 30 is strongest at a position around which the binding member 50 is wound. The binding force is weaker at a position farther from the position around which the binding member 50 is wound. For this reason, when the two or more connector caps 30 are bound together by the binding member 50 at a position relatively close to the front end portions 31 in the connector caps 30, the binding force of the binding member 50 is weaker on the side opposite to the side having the front end portions 31 in the longitudinal direction of each of the connector caps 30.
[0035] The connector cap 30 is a resin member and thus elastic. Thus, when two or more connector caps 30 are bound together by the binding member, they are elastically deformed by the binding force of the binding member 50 at a position around which the binding member 50 is wound, thereby decreasing the dimension in a direction perpendicular to the third direction Z. In contrast, the binding force of the binding member 50 is relatively weak at a position relatively spaced from the binding member 50, that is, at a position on the side opposite to the side having the front end portions 31 in the longitudinal direction of each connector cap 30. Thus, the two or more connector caps 30 are unlikely to decrease in size in a direction perpendicular to the third direction Z.
[0036] Thus, when the two or more connector caps 30 are inserted into the receiving portion 20, pressure is more likely to be generated between the wall portions 21 and the inner walls 15 of the frame 12 constituting the receiving portion 20 and the connector caps 30 at a position on the side opposite to the side having the front end portions 31 in the longitudinal direction of each connector cap 30. Thus, securing the frictional force between the two or more connector caps 30 and the receiving portion 20 is easier. Consequently, the two or more connector caps 30 that have been housed in the receiving portion 20 can be prevented from detaching from the receiving portion 20.
[0037] When the two or more connector caps 30 are bound together by the binding member 50, the binding member 50 is wrapped around a position on one side of the connector caps 30 having the front end portions 31. Therefore, the overall shape of a bundle of the two or more connector caps 30 can taper toward the front end portions 31. Thus, the two or more connector caps 30 bound together by the binding member 50 can be more easily inserted into the receiving portion 20 when they are arranged in the receiving portion 20. Furthermore, when the binding member 50 is wrapped around a position on one side of the connector caps 30 having the front end portions 31, the overall shape of the bundle of the two or more connector caps 30 can be more easily expanded toward the side opposite the front end portions 31 in the connector caps 30.Thus, the two or more connector caps 30 inserted into the receiving portion 20 are unlikely to detach from the receiving portion 20. Due to these effects, the two or more connector caps 30 can be more easily inserted into the receiving portion 20 and are less likely to detach from the receiving portion 20.
[0038] In the electrical junction box 1 according to the embodiment, the housing 10 accommodating the electronic component 5 includes the connector cap accommodating structure 100 of the present embodiment, in which two or more connector caps 30 can be accommodated together in the accommodating portion 20 even when two or more connector caps 30 are used. Thus, two or more connector caps 30 can be easily attached, ensuring easy attachment.
[0039] The wire harness WH according to the embodiment includes the conductive routing elements W and the electrical connection box 1, and the housing 10 in the electrical connection box 1 includes the structure 100 for accommodating the connector caps 30 according to the present embodiment. Thus, even when two or more connector caps 30 are used, two or more connector caps 30 can be easily attached. Consequently, easy attachment work is ensured.
[0040] In the electrical junction box 1 according to the embodiment, the connector holder 16 is arranged below the base 17 provided on the inner wall 15 of the frame 12 located in the housing 10. Thus, an arrangement structure in a portion inside the housing 10 of the electrical junction box 1 where other components are connected is formed as a stacked structure in the third direction Z, thereby saving space. Consequently, the size of the electrical junction box 1 can be reduced.
[0041] By disposing the connector holder 16 below the base 17 provided on the inner wall 15 of the frame 12, the electric wire extending from the connector plug 6 connected to the connector holder 16 can extend in a direction intersecting the third direction Z. The electric wire extending from the base 17 extends downward in the third direction Z. When the electric wire extending from the connector plug 6 connected to the connector holder 16 can be extended in a direction intersecting the third direction Z, the electric wire extending from the connector plug 6 and the electric wire extending from the base 17 are brought into contact with each other, and the directions in which these electric wires extend are mutually regulated. Therefore, when wiring the electrical lines, unnecessary movement of the electrical lines is prevented and the electrical lines are prevented from cutting other elements. modification
[0042] In the above-described embodiment, an adhesive tape is used for the binding member 50 that connects the two or more connector caps 30. However, other alternatives may be used as the binding member 50 instead of an adhesive tape. For example, a stretchable rubber band or a so-called resin cable tie may be used as the binding member 50. If a member that can appropriately change its length during binding according to the characteristics of the connector caps 30 is used as the binding member 50, the binding member 50 can appropriately connect the connector caps 30 regardless of the configuration of each of the connector caps 30.
[0043] In the above-described embodiment, the receiving portion 20 has a substantially rectangular shape in the third direction Z. However, the receiving portion 20 may also have a shape other than rectangular. The shape of the receiving portion 20 is desirably selected as needed according to the configurations of the other portions of the housing 10.
[0044] In the above-described embodiment, a single receiving portion 20 is provided in the housing 10, but two or more such receiving portions 20 may be provided in the housing 10. The number of such receiving portions 20 accommodated in the housing 10 is not limited if each receiving portion 20 is configured to collectively accommodate therein two or more of the connector caps 30 as one element bound together by the binding member 50.
[0045] According to the receiving structure for the connector cap, the electrical junction box, and the wire harness according to the present embodiment, a binding member is wound around two or more connector caps that have been joined together as a unit, and the two or more connected connector caps and the two or more connector caps bound together by the binding member are housed as a unit in the receiving portion. Thus, even when two or more connector caps are used, two or more connector caps can be easily attached. This achieves an effect that ensures easy fastening work.
