Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a battery device test cell which is designed to be mounted instead of a regular battery cell in a battery device to be tested, as well as to a battery device test cell series comprising a plurality of differently designed battery device test cells.

[0002] From DE 10 2016 224 450 A1 a battery device test cell according to the preamble of claim 1 is known.

[0003] From US 11 360 154 B1 it is known to attach a heating element to the outside of a battery cell.

[0004] From DE 10 2014 012 015 A1 a battery device test cell is known in which heating elements are applied to a cell winding dummy arranged in a cell housing.

[0005] The object of the present invention is to enable a simulation of the occurrence of a thermal event in a battery device to be tested in a relatively simple manner and under relatively real conditions.

[0006] This object is achieved according to the invention by a battery device test cell having the features of claim 1.

[0007] The battery device test cell according to the invention is designed to be mounted in place of a regular battery cell in a battery device to be tested. The battery device test cell is thus configured such that it can be arranged and secured in the installation space of a regular battery cell of the battery device to be tested.

[0008] The battery device test cell according to the invention comprises two contacting elements that are designed to be connected to a battery cell interconnection of the battery device to be tested instead of contacting elements of a regular battery cell of the battery device to be tested. The two contacting elements are thus shaped and positioned at least similarly, preferably substantially identically, to the contacting elements of a regular battery cell of the battery device to be tested. The two contacting elements are electrically interconnected internally, i.e., within the battery device test cell, in order to set a defined electrical state at the corresponding terminals of the battery cell interconnection of the battery device to be tested when the battery device test cell is assembled, thus simulating a defined electrical state of a battery cell.

[0009] The battery device test cell according to the invention further comprises at least one heating element, preferably at least one electrical heating element, wherein each heating element can be specifically heated to simulate a thermal event in the battery device to be tested. Preferably, the temperature to which the at least one heating element is heated can be regulated. Preferably, at least one heating element is plate-shaped.

[0010] Since the battery cells of a battery device are typically mechanically braced against one another, the battery device test cell according to the invention comprises a test cell housing to which the two contacting elements and the at least one heating element are attached. The external dimensions of the test cell housing correspond to the external dimensions of a cell housing or cell shell of a regular battery cell of the battery device to be tested, in order to simulate the regular mechanical conditions within the battery device to be tested as closely as possible.

[0011] According to the invention, the test cell housing consists of a thermally insulating material, i.e. a material with a relatively low thermal conductivity, in order to simulate a relatively local heating of a battery cell, as is typically the case in the case of a so-called thermal runaway of a battery cell.

[0012] The battery device test cell according to the invention can be used to simulate the occurrence of a thermal event in a battery device to be tested in a relatively simple manner and under relatively realistic conditions.

[0013] Preferably, the two contacting elements of the battery device test cell are internally electrically short-circuited to simulate a short circuit within a battery cell. Preferably, the two contacting elements are formed by a single metal part.

[0014] In a preferred embodiment, the test cell housing has at least one recess on an outer surface in which the at least one heating element is arranged. This enables a relatively simple and reliable attachment of the at least one heating element to the test cell housing. Preferably, an outer surface of the at least one heating element is essentially flush with the outer surface of the test cell housing.

[0015] Preferably, connecting lines of the at least one heating element run within the test cell housing and are routed out of the test cell housing on one side where one of the contacting elements is arranged. This enables simple cabling of the battery device test cell. Preferably, the test cell housing has at least one cable duct and / or at least one groove in which the connecting lines of the at least one heating element run.

[0016] Advantageously, the battery device test cell comprises at least one temperature sensor in order to be able to monitor and preferably also regulate the heating of the at least one heating element.

[0017] Preferably, the connecting lines of the at least one temperature sensor also run within the test cell housing and exit the test cell housing on the same side as the connecting lines of the at least one heating element. This enables simple wiring of the battery device test cell.

[0018] Preferably, at least one temperature sensor is arranged below one of the at least one heating elements in order to be able to monitor the heating of the respective heating element particularly reliably and precisely.

[0019] In a preferred embodiment, the battery device test cell comprises a plurality of heating elements to simulate heating of a battery cell at different positions. The plurality of heating elements can, for example, be arranged adjacent to one another on the same side of the battery device test cell and / or on opposite sides of the battery device test cell.

[0020] The above-mentioned object is further achieved according to the invention by a battery device test cell series having the features of claim 9.

[0021] The battery device test cell series according to the invention comprises a plurality of the previously described battery device test cells according to the invention, wherein the at least one heating element is arranged at different positions and / or has different dimensions in the plurality of battery device test cells of the battery device test cell series. By mounting the different battery device test cells of the battery device test cell series, the occurrence of a thermal event at different positions and / or the occurrence of a thermal event with different extents in a battery device to be tested can thus be simulated in a relatively simple manner and under relatively realistic conditions.

[0022] Embodiments of the present invention are described below with reference to the accompanying figures. Herein: Fig. 1 a battery device test cell according to the invention, Fig. 2 Housing parts of a test cell housing of the battery device test cell made of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 an inside of one of the housing parts Fig. 2, Fig. 4 a battery device test cell series according to the invention, which, in addition to the battery device test cell from Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 comprises three further battery device test cells according to the invention with differently positioned and differently sized heating elements, and Fig. 5 shows another battery device test cell according to the invention.

[0023] Fig. 1 shows a battery device test cell 100-1 according to the invention, which is designed to be mounted in place of a battery cell (not shown here) in a battery device to be tested (also not shown here).

[0024] The battery device test cell 100-1 comprises a test cell housing 1 consisting of two plate-shaped housing parts 1.1, 1.2 fastened to one another, wherein the two housing parts 1.1, 1.2 each consist of a thermally insulating material, and wherein outer dimensions of the test cell housing 1 correspond to outer dimensions of a cell housing or a cell shell of a battery cell of the battery device to be tested.

[0025] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 2, the housing part 1.1 has a recess 1.1.2 on an outer surface 1.1.1, in which, as shown in Fig. 1, a heating element 2 is arranged, wherein connecting lines 2.1 of the heating element are led out of the test cell housing 1 via a groove 1.1.3 formed in the recess 1.1.2, a through-opening 1.1.4 formed in the recess 1.1.2 and a groove 1.1.6 formed on an inner surface 1.1.5 of the housing part 1.1 on an end face 1.3 of the test cell housing 1.

[0026] In a through-opening 1.1.7 formed in the recess 1.1.2 and thus behind the heating element 2, as shown in Fig. 1, a temperature sensor 3 is arranged, wherein connecting lines 3.1 of the temperature sensor 3 are also led out of the test cell housing 1 via the groove 1.1.6 formed on the inner surface 1.1.5 of the housing part 1.1 on the front side 1.3 of the test cell housing 1.

[0027] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 3, the housing part 1.1 has a recess 1.1.8 on the inner surface 1.1.1, in which, as shown in Fig. 1 shows a sheet metal part 4 made of a metal, preferably aluminum, which protrudes from the test cell housing 1 at the end face 1.3 and an end face 1.4 opposite the end face 1.3.

[0028] Ends 4.1, 4.2 of the sheet metal part 4 protruding from the test cell housing 1 form contacting elements 5, 6 of the battery device test cell 100-1, wherein the contacting elements 5, 6 are shaped and positioned substantially identically to contacting elements of a battery cell of the battery device to be tested, so that the contacting elements 5, 6 can be connected to a battery cell circuit of the battery device to be tested instead of the contacting elements of a battery cell.

[0029] Because both contacting elements 5, 6 are formed by the sheet metal part 4, the contacting elements 5, 6 are internally electrically short-circuited in order to simulate a short circuit within a battery cell of the battery device to be tested in the assembled state of the battery device test cell 100-1.

[0030] To simulate a thermal event in the battery device to be tested, the heating element 2 can be specifically heated by applying an electrical voltage to the connecting lines 2.1 of the heating element 2, wherein a temperature of the heating element 2 can be monitored and thus regulated via the temperature sensor 3.

[0031] Fig. 4 shows a battery device test cell series 200 according to the invention, which, in addition to the previously described battery device test cell 100-1, comprises further battery device test cells 100-2 - 100-4 according to the invention, wherein to designate features of the battery device test cells 100-2 - 100-4 that are identical or similar to the battery device test cell 100-1, the corresponding reference numerals from Fig. 1 to Fig. 3 can be used.

[0032] The battery device test cells 100-2 - 100-4 differ from the battery device test cell 100-1 only in that the recess 1.1.2 and the heating element 2 arranged therein are arranged at a different position or have different dimensions.

[0033] The individual battery device test cells 100-1 - 100-4 of the battery device test cell series 200 can therefore simulate thermal events at different positions and with different extents.

[0034] Fig. 5 shows a further battery device test cell 100-5 according to the invention, wherein to designate features of the battery device test cell 100-5 which are identical or similar to the battery device test cell 100-1, the corresponding reference numerals from Fig. 1 to Fig. 3 can be used.

[0035] The battery device test cell 100-5 differs from the battery device test cell 100-1 in that the battery device test cell 100-5 includes two heating elements 2a, 2b and two temperature sensors 3a, 3b.

[0036] The two heating elements 2a, 2b and the respective temperature sensor 3a, 3b are each arranged analogously to the heating element 2 and the temperature sensor 3 of the battery device test cell 100-1 in a separate recess 1.1.2a, 1.1.2b formed on the outer surface 1.1.1 of the housing part 1.1, wherein the connecting lines 2a.1, 2b.1 of both heating elements 2a, 2b and the connecting lines 3a.1, 3b.1 of both temperature sensors 3a, 3b are each led out of the test cell housing 1 via the groove 1.1.6 formed on the inner surface 1.1.5 of the housing part 1.1 on the front side 1.3.

[0037] The battery device test cells 100-1 to 100-5 described here are each designed to be mounted in the battery device to be tested instead of a battery cell designed as a pouch cell.

[0038] It goes without saying that battery device test cells for battery devices with differently designed battery cells, for example with prismatic battery cells or so-called round cells, have a correspondingly adapted structure, in particular with regard to the shape of the test cell housing and the shape and position of the contacting elements.
