AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing shock absorbers face durability issues due to excessive deformation and stress concentration in the disc valve, which affects the longevity and performance of the damping force generation mechanism.

Method used

A shock absorber design featuring a damping force generation mechanism with a valve body, main and sub-valves, and communication recesses in the lower washer to control hydraulic fluid flow, reducing stress concentration and improving durability by limiting excessive deformation.

Benefits of technology

The design enhances the durability of the lower valve by reducing stress concentration and allowing for adjustable damping force characteristics, improving the shock absorber's performance and longevity.

Abstract

Shock absorber (1) comprising: a cylinder (2) with a hydraulic fluid sealed therein, a piston (3) slidably inserted in the cylinder (2), a piston rod (4) connected to the piston (3) and extending to an exterior of the cylinder (2), and a damping force generation mechanism (12, 13) that generates a damping force by controlling a flow of a hydraulic fluid caused by a sliding movement of the piston (3) in the cylinder (2), wherein the damping force generation mechanism (12, 13) uses the piston (3) as a valve body and comprises: the valve body with a passage (10, 11) through which the hydraulic fluid flows, a clamping section (20) projecting from a position on an inner circumferential side of an opening (10A, 11A) of the passage (10, 11) in the valve body, and a contact section (19) projecting from positions on an outer circumferential side of the opening (10A, 11A) of the passage (10, 11) protrudes in the valve body,a main valve (14) comprising a stack of a plurality of discs, the inner circumferential section of which is clamped by the clamping section (20), and the outer circumferential section of which rests against the mounting section (19) to close the passage (10, 11), and is deformed and lifted to open the passage (10, 11) when pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the passage (10, 11) is applied; a sub-passage (29) with an opening in the discs resting against the mounting section (19); and a sub-valve (15) comprising a sub-disc (30) having a smaller diameter than the discs and being clamped at an inner circumferential section thereof by the discs and the clamping section (20), the sub-disc (30) resting against the discs to close the sub-passage (29), and being deformed and lifted to open the sub-passage (29) when pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the passage (10, 11) is applied. to open hydraulic fluids in the lower passage (29),wherein the valve body is provided with a limiting section (21) which abuts the lower washer (30) when the lower valve (15) is open in order to limit a degree of opening of the lower valve (15), and the lower valve (15) is provided with a communication recess (31) radially within a position where the lower washer (30) abuts the limiting section (21).
